I’m absolutely OBSESSED with the concept of “Glamrock DJ Music Man”.

Not only can he give like, the BEST hugs ever, and kids likely wouldn’t be as scared of him, and he can DRAW, But there’s also so many ways that DJ being this shape would drastically change the flow of my AU!

If DJ looked like this? He would no longer be confined to the Arcade. He would have the freedom to roam where ever he wants to like the others do. So when DA starts acting weird and eventually disappears? Instead of just sitting there and hoping for the best.. DJ would just straight up leave the Arcade and go check on him. In which Sunny would be able to explain what was going on in the safety of the Daycare.

DJ would have access to so much more information as well! When Freddy and the gang started acting weird and disappeared, DJ would be able to actually go and talk to them. In which he would find out that something is wrong with all of them. DJ being unable to leave the Arcade has greatly limited everyone’s flow of information, considering the “bug” didn’t effect DJ the same way it did the others.. He could have witnessed everyone's slow decline into malfunction with clear eyes. And probably could have stopped it. He could have even told Freddy and the others about their weird behavior once they were fixed. But alas, in cannon he just simply cant leave the Arcade. And thus couldn’t help any of his friends in their time of need.🥺

The Sexualization of Octolings

Hey y’all! My friend Ray suggested this lil thread essay post whatever it’s called, and I figured it would make perfect sense to do. I’ve never really made an in-depth Splatoon post before, but I’m not afraid to try. Today’s topic is.. the sexualization of Octolings.

We all know Octolings. We all think they’re cute and fun and cool, but they’re just so.. you know.. sexy. That’s not a bad thing, but it seems like it’s their whole entire species which is literally sexualized and shown in midriff-baring, skimpy outfits. I mean, come on guys. When Callie, the most wholesome Inkling around, briefly joins the Octo Party, she’s suddenly turned into the hottest dominatrix-looking rigid icon ever (a number of my friends started to crush on her after that).

It’s definitely not just Callie. We all know Marina, guys. I don’t even have to show you images to prove what she looks like, her and her love for crop tops. And Marina, as we all know, is an ex-member of the Octarian army, like all Octolings.. like Agent 8, whose Octo Expansion outfit was on the sexy side with a crop top and high-heeled little booties. And who later in Side Order wears a form-fitting bodysuit that shows off their midriff and causes several Splatoon players to meme the fact that their backside seems to be lookin’ large to death. Why is it that Marina and Eight, who used to be in the army, have sexualized attire even now? And when Callie linked up with them, she too was wearing a shirt that in certain poses accentuates her chest, and pants so loose-fitting you can see her actual underwear.

Have you seen the enemy Octoling’s outfits? Yes, they’ve got on armor, but it’s stylized as crop tops and short shorts. Not to mention that most of the enemy Octolings present as or resemble females, and their armor has the age-old shoddy trope of having extra panels for their breasts. They’ve got little booties too and look more like a dancing glam squad or sexualized warrior cosplay than actual warriors, but this is just a design choice and doesn’t affect the way they fight. A pretty weird design choice for a game like Splatoon if you ask me.

I find this very bizarre and random. Because it seems that the entire Octoling enemy brigade has some level of sexiness to them, especially the females. Every single one. But wait on a second. There’s two Octolings we haven’t covered yet. Shiver, an Octoling, has an outfit no more racier than Frye, her Inkling co-star’s. And Acht’s outfit may have a questionable thigh slit, but that’s nowhere near the typical belly-button-bearing short shorts of the Octarian army. That seems to make my theory seem dumb, huh?

Not in the slightest. See, Acht was never in the Octarian army’s fighting unit with the rest of the girlies (they were in the army and wore the same uniform, but as they were never on the front lines they seemed to be able to wear it differently, tilting it so their midriff wasn’t easily seen and wearing a bracelet instead of those tight gloves). As for Shiver, she was born into a clan of Octolings long separated from the other Octarians. Agent 8 on the other hand was once an Octarian warrior, as was Marina (she was later promoted though, but even so along with other enemy Octoling warriors was there during Octavio’s fight with Agent 3), and Callie was turned into one briefly, or something like one, despite her being an Inkling. It seems all the sexualized Octolings were once on the front lines strutting their stuff while fighting. So why is this?

Well, here’s my theory added onto another random semi-theory that I am here to share with you all. You see, in Japanese, the enemy Octolings, preferably the ones you fight, are called “Octo-Amazons”, and the Amazons are legendary female warriors. So perhaps DJ Octavio knew what he was doing with this, and it’s a sort of empowerment move that perhaps the masculine Octolings work on maintenance jobs or something given we never see them, whereas most feminine Octolings are fighters with their female-ness put on blatant display, waggling their little hips as they jump in to do battle with the Inklings. And this practice is so well-known among Octolings that those formerly in the army still tend to gravitate towards more revealing clothes even when they are free. Just a penny for your thoughts, Splatoon community.

Hey, i wanted to say two things. The first one is, I adore your analysis so much. You definitely have so much knowledge about the project sekai lore than i would ever have. And secondly, do you believe if Craft egg is going to confirm any of the ships in the game? It would be really nice if it happens, but i highly doubt it.

Secondly, I don't really like talking about shipping because, y'know, but also free pass if I'm talking about canon stuff

it's really hard to say. Like, really. I'm assuming here that you mean confirm as in the characters dating within the story, and not as in characters having mutual feelings, because for that there's a different answer. Games in the sort of idol-rhythm genre tend to never actually establish romantic relationships and just keep teasing stuff, because money and I guess if you never confirm anything then you never alienate a portion of your fanbase.

Like look at bandori, which has CHU2 and PAREO who clearly have feelings for each other (iirc it's outright stated on one side at least?) and are seemingly dating although it's just. never actually confirmed. same with a few other characters. i know this happens in enstars as well but i only ever played it for a week so i can't name anything specific but do i need to you probably get what i'm on about.

though, there are games in the genre that don't do this, namely D4DJ. But D4DJ is sort of a black sheep in this genre because like. it's really queer, like actually queer. like they've got characters who are dating and outright stated to not like men and like another girl in the cast. which isn't something that's common. at all.

and all these examples from other games are queer, and of course, prsk is mixed-gender, i'm just using them as examples (and also all the couples in prsk most likely to ever be official are queer). prsk being mixed kinda simultaneously makes getting characters together easier and harder for them. because on the one hand, do i even need to explain why straight couples are easier to slap in a story? and on the other hand, gay ships are far more popular in the fandom, and are generally the ones that get more content in the game because of that, so pulling a fast one and suddenly making a random m/f couple canon would piss off a lot of the fanbase (i'm talking about vbs and mmj here before anyone says anything).

so really it comes down to whether the writers just carry on as they are, or do something unexpected. and like, maybe they will? i mean, there's airi and shizuku who are very obviously attracted to each other, minori and haruka who i don't think i need to explain, and then an & kohane, akito & toya and arata & souma who are all implied to be soulmates. so there is definitely already stuff there if they ever decide to do something. and if not, then there's stuff there still I guess.

oh yeah also An refers to the events of BFST as a date and the way the conversation is phrased heavily implies she means it romantically but she's the only person who calls it that and no one is actually implied to be in a romantic relationship outside that event (or even in it really) but there you go. oh and shizuku and airi go on a date within the story as well.

Sleepover Shenanigans???

My partner @akikothefuzzball and I were in call one night and decided to have a discord sleepover (sleep in call together to some music), but since we had our music bot in call with us playing some tunes, and we just so happen to have it nicknamed "DJ Music Man"... we came up with this goofy scenario of Me, Artem, and DJMM just having a sleepover together and what dumb sleepover games we would play 💀

I jokingly mentioned "spin the bottle" because the idea of it was funny to me that if I spun it, I'd be happy with either person it lands on, but Artem and DJ are just homies and so if one of them spun it, then they would have a 50% chance of it being really awkward 💀 (for extra context, in this hypothetical, My partner, Artem, and I are dating, and DJ and I are also dating, but Artem and DJ are just friends. Artem is also dating (I think) the DCA so we are all just in a wacky poly relationship I guess? XD)

I am legitimately devastated to learn that “women are my favorite guy” isn’t yet another phrase spawned by tumblr meme culture like I assumed it was, and that it actually originates from a song created by some cishet white guy named Kyle who has built an entire tiktok career off of making fun of neurodivergent people.

fun fact! with the exception of tekken 6 and seemingly tekken 8, devil jin always has longer bangs than jin. (a detail that was even added in tekken 7 somehow!) why this is being omitted in tekken 8, and why it wasn't in tekken 6 either, is unknown.

here's another Splatoon theory that I don't even like

starting with a few questions:

what's the deal with [#14] crush?

why did dedf1sh make a Splattack remix?

what was Agent 3 doing during Octo Expansion?

We've been told somewhere, probably in some interview, that dedf1sh doesn't typically make music for others, but instead mostly only makes what they want to. From there it's easy to extrapolate that their music reflects their feelings, (or what was left of them post-sanitization) that they expressed themself through their compositions.

This paints a sad picture of their time in the underground, as most of their music from Octo Expansion has a tense and lonely feel to it. Which is why [#14] crush stands out so much. If you've forgotten which track that is, give it a listen:

It's goofy! It's chaotic and silly! If you didn't make Agent 8 hop around, flop, and spin to this track, you either didn't get far enough in Octo Expansion, or you're lying to yourself.

What gives?

The word "crush" can mean a lot of things, but this track doesn't exactly convey anything that sounds like being emotionally or physically crushed. It...sounds a lot more like the chaotic mix of emotions that comes with having a crush on someone. (this is where I need to apologize to Team Aromantic Acht. Love y'all, you guys do your thing and I'll do mine, cool?)

If I'm even in the ballpark of correct, that begs the question: on who?

There haven't been many characters we know about being in the underground, and even fewer who could potentially have encountered Kamabo's sanitized DJ. But if process of elimination isn't enough, there is a hint: as stated previously, Dedf1sh tends to only create their own compositions for their own interest, with few known exceptions. One of these exceptions is the Splattack! remix that plays during the Agent 3 boss fight. Again, it doesn't really match the style of the rest of their music from Octo Expansion, which suggests to me that they chose to remix that track specifically for someone who likes it, namely Agent 3.

Conclusion: Acht encountered Former Agent 3 during the time they were both underground, became as infatuated as a sanitized individual can be, and remixed 3's favorite song in an attempt to impress them.

(for my fellow Agent 24 shippers: I'm not necessarily saying that it worked. I'm saying that a sanitized Acht saw someone cool and made a couple banger tracks about it. Maybe at best Agent 3 appreciated and was intrigued by the gesture, especially coming from a sanitized octoling.)

ok back to me crying over d4dj. i was one of those people who was kinda dissapointed with lumina being an ai at first because i thought it was lazy writing, but GODDD the way the writers used it to reveal so much important information and progress the story is just. we wouldn't have gotten neo becoming human and realising she has a support system. we would've never gotten information on who neo's family was. lumina being an ai based on aria was the reason we found out that aria, this great singer who we only knew through other people's words up until sn9, had a direct link with one of the playable characters. we would've never seen that neo's dad isnt a huge supervillain who doesn't care for his child at all. we would've never gotten that scene where the rest of LMO bullies sho.

some people may have hated side nova but goddd did i love it

A/N: i actually had a similar thing written for sidestory octavio... i haven't gotten to work on it since i'm still working on sidestory beryl but i think this would be fun to preview :) spoilers for chapter 7+8 of tea and gladiolus 🐙

“What?”

Octavio snaps out of the haze he let Agent Three rile him up into, eyes scanning Tentakeel Outpost. Not far from them, at the doorway of Cuttlefish Cabin, stands the very girl he was talking about just a few seconds ago.

My daughter.

The Octoling girl doesn’t say anything for a moment, silent as her eyes widen, tinged with crimson tears. One of her tentacles is dyed a bioluminescent blue-green, marring the trademark Takowase clan ink color.

That’s… that’s her.

I don’t even know her name, but she… definitely knows me, from the looks of things.

Before he can say anything like ‘hey kid, I’m your dad, mind helping me out of this snow globe maybe,’ his daughter turns on her heel and makes a break for it, the whites of her eyes flashing a striking emerald green.

Ohhh, she’s pissed.

“Jeanne, wait!” Freya shouts, rocketing to her feet as the silhouette of the Octoling girl disappears over the canyon in the direction of Octo Valley. Her legs nearly give out as she reels from the motion, clearly not in good enough shape to be running around like this.

The Inkling looks in his direction for a split second when her head clears, almost asking if there’s anything else he has to say. The words die in Octavio’s throat as Freya grits her teeth and heads for the edge of the platform. Octavio barely hears someone else interrupting as the squid Super Jumps off in the direction of the valley, not sparing him a second glance.

Well, if she had that visceral of a reaction, I think it’s safe to say she’s not going to help me out of here. So much for blood being thicker than water…

Though, now that he’s thinking about it, can Octavio really blame the girl? He was never really present in her life, clearly has some form of romantic interest in Agent Three, his sworn enemy and biggest rival, and also never gave her any form of clues to her heritage aside from the Golden Toothpick he ships out with every tentacle clipping that manages to grow eyes.

The Squid Sister he kidnapped two months ago, the pink one, marches up to Octavio’s snow globe with murderous intent clear in her eyes. “What. The hell. Did you say to Jeanne, you piece of shit?”
