okay, im going to rant about soldier, poet, king because PEOPLE ARE STILL MISINTERPRETING IT and im mad about it.
Obligatory disclaimer: Mentions of Christianity, obviously. Also, I myself am not a Christian. However, I REALLY like the Oh Hellos. If you couldn't tell.
Soldier, Poet, King is the tenth song of the Dear Wormwood album by The Oh Hellos. Dear Wormwood is heavily inspired by CS Lewis (hence the title, which comes from the Screwtape Letters.) The story of the album is about an abusive relationship, which uses aspects of their inspirations as metaphors for the overarching narrative.

Soldier, Poet, King has aspects that are clearly drawn from the bible, yes. We all know this. Everyone who has ever done a surface level search of the lyrics on Genius can tell you this. Congrats, you know a basic aspect of The Oh Hellos.
However, if you leave it at that, you are just ignoring the literal message of the song. Aside from the people everyone and their mother complains about ("omg i can't believe this is abt jesus :(( i can't use this song for my blorbos anymore :((("), there's also a really annoying subsection of people who are like this:
THEY DIDN'T DO THIS. Let me break down the soldier verse for you because this is making me so mad.
There will come a soldier
Who carries a mighty sword
He will tear your city down, oh lei oh lai oh Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh Lord

Crazy how this tiny ass verse got misinterpreted that badly, btw. Anyways. This verse has direct references that come from THE BIBLE.
Revelations 1:16- "In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and this face was like the sun shining in full strength."
Revelations 19:15- "From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty."
Because of these, I'D ARGUE THAT JESUS IS MENTIONED TO HAVE A SWORD MULTIPLE TIMES, ACTUALLY. Given, it's metaphorical most of the time, but come on now. Also, it's not saying he's a literal soldier in the lyrics. I'd argue that it's more meant to imply a reform, especially consider the next verse is:
There will come a poet
Whose weapon is His word
He will slay you with His tongue, oh lei oh lai oh Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh Lord
He will slay you with His tongue, oh lei oh lai oh Lord
If his weapon is his word, does this not imply that the sword from the previous verse is metaphorical? If he's slaying with his tongue, doesn't that mean that he's "tearing your city down" with his fucking words? If we're to say that this song is about a singular person, which it is (it's using jesus as an analogy for the protagonist), then these lyrics have overlap, and his SWORD is his WORDS. NOT A LITERAL SWORD.
Anyways, rant concluded.
TLDR; Jesus is an analogy for the protagonist of the Dear Wormwood album, the "sword" referenced in the first verse and his "word" referenced in the second verse are the same thing, which has biblical basis, especially in Revelations.

holy shit im so mad.
!!!SPOILERS FOR SEE YOU IN MY 19TH LIFE KDRAMA AND WEBTOON!!!
(disclaimer-sorry if any of the characters names are spelt wrong or need a hyphen, i get things confused between the kdrama and webtoon)
i read the webtoon way before the kdrama came out and i am still, to this day, so emotionally attached to it like, its one of the most amazing things ive read and i still cry when i think about it too much.
so, imagine my excitement when i find out its getting a kdrama and my absolute dissapointment when i find out that they changed literally everything (this is an exaragation) that made the webtoon so amazing.
when the show came out i was basically begging my sister to watch it with me (since she hasnt read the webtoon) and we are currently seven episodes in because we had to go on holidays however, we will continue watching it (even though i spent a good hour and a half contemplating whether or not i would actually be able to watch it without combusting after i read what they changed) until the end.
so, like the the overly anxious person i am, i searched up the ending just to make sure they hadnt changed anything else apart from min-gi's character and adding han-na (who we will discuss later) and proceeded to rip my hair out after reading that they made the female lead LOSE ALL OF HER MEMORIES ABOUT EVERYONE SHE LOVED.
but before we get into that i want to talk about the things they actually did well, for example, the cinematography, casting and scenery were actually so amazing and its definitely so much better than the webtoon (however the webtoon does still have a special place in my heart) and i think possibly the only good plot change they did was make han-na the reincarnation of seo-ha's mother. as someone who despises sad/bittersweet stuff i love that they made his mother reincarnate and keep her memories even if he doesnt meet her (which i dont know if he does because im only on episode seven) because its so sweet to think that she got a chance to see her son all (sort of) happy and grown up. i also love the fact that they added more depth to her past lives and showed up more scenes of them as, in the webtoon, im pretty sure the only things we got that related to her past lives were- her and min-gi's friendship, her and doyun's 'relationship' in her first life and her being ae-kyung's uncle.
now, onto the things im sad they didnt keep in but that i could deal with, which is mostly min-gi's character as a whole and the convinience store scene with ji-eum and min-gi where they recognise each other from their past lives (which im assuming they dont do since they changed his whole character). apparently, in the kdrama, min-gi and ji-eum used to be rivals/enemies in their past life or whatever so he decides to like hunt her down and basically stalk her😭😭 and then proceed to tell her that she needs to stop speaking and being around people from her past life because it hurts them (something i will talk-type?-about in a bit).
the reason why im so mad at this is because they straight just basically made him antagonistic instead of HAVING HIM AND JI-EUM BE FRIENDS IN THEIR PAST LIVES AND HAVING HIM SAY THEIR LITTLE SECRET MESSAGE AND HER BEING LIKE 'omg someone actually remembers their past life other than me?' AND THEN HIM JUST TRYING TO HELP HER NOT REMEMBER HER PAST LIVES ANYMORE BUT BEING A LITTLE BIT MISGUIDED BUT THEN THEIR STILL FRIENDS AND THEY TALK ABOUT IT 😖😖😖. like, they just ruined his character potential so much my changing that and adding the stupid motherfucking thing about how interacting with people from your past lifes hurts them.
finally, the things i hate, buckle up folks because this is going to be as long as my dick/j. first of all, the ending and THE STUPID 'YOU CANT INTERACT WITH YOUR PAST LIVES' BULLSHIT. i think the ending and the knowing about past lives hurts people is just absolute boiling garbage because 1-it just doesnt make sense 2-it doesnt make ANY fucking sense and 3-why the fuck does she need to forget but the people from her past lives dont forget who she was as ji-eum and as her past lives??? like i would rather they all forget but they're still happy and her and seo-ha are still dating/married and they're all still close but whatever. second, the whole fucking plot change like they apparently made this whole thing that made ji-eum think seo-ha murdered her sister for some fucking angst instead of the perfectly reasonable (and just as dramatic) thing with doyun where she thinks they were married so she distances herself from seo-ha but it turns out they were sisters and her and seo-ha still get to be happy AND THE WHOLE THING ABOUT THE DEAL WITH GOD (which also relates to the ending) BECAUSE IN THE END SHE ASKS GOD TO MAKE HER STOP REMEMBERING HER PAST LIVES AND SHE GRADUALLY STARTS TO FORGET THEM BUT SHE STILL KNEW SHE HAD HAD PAST LIVES AND SHE STILL REMEMBERED EVERYONE SHE CARED OUT AND THEN (if i remember correctly) SEO-HA REFUSES GOD'S OFFER TO REMEBER HIS PAST LIVES BECAUSE HE DOESNT WANNA HAVE ANY OTHER LOVE APART FROM HIS AND JI-EUM'S😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭(not sure if thats what he actually says but you get the gist) AND THEN THEY GET MARRIED AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER INSTEAD OF HER FORGETTING LITERALLY EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE SHE EVER CARED ABOUT AND HAVING TO REBUILD HER RELATIONSHIPS WAAAAAAAAA I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
THEY ARE EVERYTHING TO ME.

everything i have to say abt every burner character, my interpretations of every one as of rn because i quite literally cant wait for episode 3 so i need to distract myself. disclaimer of sorts, if you couldn’t tell, i see these guys as way more human than probably intended. like i feel as close to them as you would with say your childhood neighbours (DISCLAIMRR i was actually going to do all of them but i ended up not feeling like it. i overestimated myself for once with burner isn’t that crazy. i hope what i ended up writing is good)

roomy to me is one of the coolest types of characters like ever. shes been completely isolated for her whole life apart from daddy long legs being close with her, and she seems to be very desperate to please people and to just do whatever is “nice”. she doesn’t necessarily want or dream of anything because she hasn’t seen anything to want. episode 2 was the first exposure to the real world she’d ever gotten. also she really likes kit and spraypaint and was referring to them when she said “all for you two to explore”

despite him being the host, i dont actually think he’s the one behind burner. i don’t think he’s the one who teleported them in. and he definitely wasn’t born in the realm! he used to have a normal life in the real world until, thanks to the same being that teleported the contestants, he got sent to the realm without warning one day, and he has been instructed to do the same to other people and make them compete against eachother, for a reason which i havent exactly gotten figured out in my head yet, and hey, maybe he isn’t entirely sure either. anyway personality wise, i think his shyness and how he gets talked over indicates that during his time in the real world, he was seen as the quiet kid, and was shunned whenever he’d try to join in a conversation, and when he got teleported this of course stayed with him, although because of the burner contestants this will slowly begin to fade the more time he spends around them. also yes i do think our cast are the first people this is happening to

i love erasey and i am so crazy excited to see what’s going on with them as the series progresses. they used to be completely different as a person, sort of like limey or pilly. they were sent to the realm for a few minutes when they were a kid, even way before daddy long legs was, and from that point dedicated their life to figuring it out. however, during a sort of experiment of theirs that went wrong, they lost an eye and left arm, and were sort of broken by that, it was realised they’d bit off more than they could chew. that was when they became the erasey we know now, laid back and apathetic about most things. not hanger though. erasey loves hanger the way a mad scientist loves their lab rat, but in this case in the non fucked up Im Going To Torture You For Results way. lol

ah playdoh my least favourite one but really that doesn’t mean too much considering i love them all so dearly so i honestly love him too. he has no like psychological reason to be the way he is he’s just. a bitch. like that’s it. he expects everything from everyone around him and for him to do nothing in return for that to be deserved. the realm is his first experience where that is not the case and people are actually opposing him, hence why he’s the most hostile towards rosey and hanger. i like to think hes gonna be changed by the end of the show.

oh my goodness this guy. he is my 2nd favourite! i say this about every character but i mean it the most with him when i say i am super excited to see what their whole deal is and what the extent of his powers are and why they seem to know way more than he lets on. i also just really like his personality lol. one of my favourite moments in the show so far is when record said she was warming up for the challenge and tissues thought she meant literally warming up and got all worried that she was sick. them and record remind me of simon and marcy for literally no valid reason

(DISCLAIMER: apparently there's quite a few i wanted to share so. sorry about the fact that there's 14 down below. lol)
^one of my first attempts with my new toned sketch style. and the first thing i drew this year! getting expressions/posing just the way i imagined is always a rare treat for me LOL so im also really happy with that still
^probably my favorite ive done with one of my Other new styles (semi-lineless painting) (along with the first i did with my favorite oc lol) kind of funny to have this as one of my favorites. like of course one of these answers would be pinocchio. but i really like this style because i try not to use any effects like glow or multiply. all the shading, highlights, and stuff like that here is just regular paint
^more disney... sigh. well these ones are sentimental because i love these guys and drew the first one on my bday which was also when this parade debuted at disneyland again. ive been called insane to have done that one entirely in one day but honestly that just makes me happy because i think ive really developed a good process for sketches like this to make them look nice AND to enjoy making them. the other was made after the last show of said parade and it was just fun to draw a bunch of characters interacting while trying to keep them in character
^too embarrassed to say what this is other than it's insane oc/canon art BUT i really love this new toned sketch style i do as i said above. and the left one came out nice i think! particularly fond of the wings and facial expressions! and the second one... well i really think it's just one of the best ive done of this character. his hair and proportions on his features just came out so well... ok im gay moving on

^pinocchio madness has done a few positive things for me. one, this oc my friend and i made for pinocchio is so precious, i really love their relationship and they bring me so much joy. but ive also developed my skills with expressiveness by studying and drawing disney's pinocchio. these are good examples of posing and expressions im really happy with (can u tell im really focused on expressions LOL). also pinocchio helped me get back to animation work??? wild

Big edit disclaimer: Im not looking for "advice" unsolicited advice will be considered as disrespectful. If I heard it before, its just ableism.
The post;
You know what makes me mad, the different levels of ableism towards invisible disabilities.
Wether you're deaf or mute, just because its not as visible as glossy blind eyes or a missing limb, doesn't make it any less real.
All disabilities come in varying levels. Treating it as a competition is ridiculous, esp when abled folks are saying stuff like "you don't have it as bad as someone with (different, similar) disability." Thats not the point. The point is that you're disabled and your disability isn't non existent. Just because someone else has it "worse" doesn't mean your disability is suddenly poof gone.
There are varying levels of deafness.
There are varying levels of muteness.
There are varying levels of blindness.
Even people who have lost limbs can still take care of themselves, given the proper tools. Being disabled doesn't automaticly mean you can't take care of yourself.
Mental illnesses are disabilities.
Physical frailness is a disability.
Disabled doesn't mean incapable. It means something about you prevents you from doing things the way an abled person could.
If you're deaf, you can't hear sound, like an abled person would. There are varying levels to deafness, however. Its still deafness.
In a world were you're expected to have full control of your senses, have limbs, the ability to verbally communicate and pick up social queues, a lot of things outside of that "normal" are considered disabled.
Disability doesn't mean you're a burden however.
But one thing I'm really tired of is people who hear about invisible disabilities and tell you to stop having them. Even indirectly.
A while ago I wanted to have a therapist because I was worried I'd trauma dump on my friends. I want to preface that with that I am in fact healthy and long beyond depression, recovering. I'm as positive as I can be. Happy so.
I have cptsd, dissociative amnesia. Sometimes I remember some shitty things and it can at times disrupt my day. I am overal a literal quiet and withdrawn person. But I'm not antisocial. I simply am mute.
I wasn't always mute, but when I was really young I didn't speak a lot until I was pressured socially. I'm neurodivergent too.
A few years ago, I became unable to speak due long term damage in my vocal chords causing pain and headaches. It's hard to explain, but only saying a few words would trigger a migraine. Over the majority of my life, I basicially lived with headaches daily until it became too much. The headaches were only triggered by the use of my vocal chords. My throat would hurt as well.
So a while ago I get a therapist and it goes well at first but several things really ticked me off. It was clear that the person was very obsessed with my muteness, and "fixing" it, not just that,
They seemed to be under the impression that I was a stereotype person with autism. Like, at times our appointments would be wasted with them stressing me out and instead of focusing on relieving my emotional distress they'd try and just make me cry. I don't know why I didn't see it as a red flag at first. But then came the "here's a random hobby" pitches, I didn't want therapy to be given "hyperfixations" I came to put down a timeline of my childhood and talk about other stuff that would be considered traumadumping so I wouldn't bother my friends.
Instead it became ableism. Constantly comparing me to a non existent 3rd party. Straight up saying I wasn't disabled while I am legally invalid according to my goverment. Saying "real" disabled people would hate me. Wtf?? I've lived this live for almost 24 years. I've tried to walk the path of abled folks. I know my limits. I'm not giving up anything.
What pisses me off was the constant barrage of "you're not communicating" but I was, I used notes and text apps, my social worker helped me by reading them out loud because, I was starting to feel unsafe with this therapist.
Just because its non verbal, doesn't mean its not social. Doesn't mean I'm not saying shit. Its like telling people that your online friends aren't real because all you do is text them. Get a life you ableist fuck.
I know my limits. I have been through a fucking lot. But I'm not faking anything. I've been depressed for the majority of my life. I don't need a "helper" trying to cure my autism lmao. Dude. I have different brain patterns. How even.
I'm so tired of this "you're not communicating, you're isolating yourself" im. Not. Having. Migraines.
When my friends are over. We have a blast. They don't fucking judge me.
When I go downtown, people don't ask me why I don't talk. I smile, I wave, I use my notebook, my notes app. Everyone is so polite and kind.
But somehow saying you'd rather never regain the ability to verbally speak again just so you don't have to be permanently paralyzed and non functional from constant pain isn't enough.
Hours on hours wasted on trying to convinche someone that yes. It is invisible. And yes. Its fucking real.
Eat your shirt or something. Im tired. Im paranoid 24 7. Im tired of having to elaborate times and times again and its just not enough for neurotypical and abled "professionals" to be empathetic and accept that it is real.
And yes. Professionals can be wrong.
I've been emotionally abused, verbally assaulted, and even violated by these so called professionals.
You're not a professional of autism if you don't even have it. You don't know how I experience things. You just have a lens and a bias.
It's a spectrum.
And I think anyone would rather give up something than to be in pain non stop.
I'm not unhappy.
I have fun. I can still laugh.
But nah, ableist have to push this idealized abled version version on me. I have to find my own road, I can't copy yours. Thats not how it works.
I'm never going to be like "everyone else"
I'm me. And being disabled doesn't make me less human. Humble yourself a little.
Pain is pain.
Disability is disability. Invisible or not. Whatever spectrum, whatever degree. They're real.
Tldr: when someone says they have a disability.. Don't be a dick.

In the Six of Crows duology, Leigh Bardugo delicately subverts and melds harmful disability tropes into her narrative, unpacking them in a way that I, as a disabled person, found immensely refreshing and…. just brilliant.
But what did you all do with that? Well, you fucked it up. Instead of critically looking at the characters, y’all just chose to be ableist.
For the next few videos paragraphs im going to unpack disability theory (largely the stuff surrounding media, for obvious reasons) and how it relates to Six Of Crows and the characterization of Kaz Brekker and Wylan Van Eck, then how, despite their brilliant writing, y’all completely overlooked the actual text and continuously revert them to ableist cariactures.
Disclaimer: 1. Shocker - i am disabled. I have also extensively researched disability theory and am very active in the disabled community. Basically, I know my shit. 2. im going to be mad in these videos this analysis. Because the way y’all have been acting has been going on for a long ass time and im fuckin sick of it. I don’t give a shit about non-disabled feelings, die mad
Firstly, I’m going to discuss Kaz, his play on the stereotypical “mean cripple” trope and how Bardugo subverts it, his cane, and disabled rage. Then, I am going to discuss Wylan, the “inspiration porn” stereotype, caregivers / parents, and the social model of disability. Finally, I will then explain the problems in the fandom from my perspective as a disabled person, largely when it comes to wylan, bc yall cant leave that boy tf alone.
Kaz Brekker
Think of a character who uses a cane (obviously not Kaz). Now, are they evil, dubiously moral, or just an asshole in general? Because nearly example I can think of is: whether it be Lots’O from Toy Story, Lucius Malfoy, or even Scrooge and Mr.Gold from Once Upon A Time all have canes (the last two even having their canes appear less and less as they become better people)
The mean/evil cripple trope is far more common than you would think. Villains with different bodies are confined to the role of “evil”. To quote TV Tropes, who I think did a brilliant job on explaining it “The first is rooted in eugenics-based ideas linking disability or other physical deformities with a "natural" predisposition towards madness, criminality, vice, etc. The Rule of Symbolism is often at work here, since a "crippled" body can be used to represent a "crippled" soul — and indeed, a disabled villain is usually put in contrast to a morally upright and physically "perfect" hero. Whether consciously on the part of the writer or not, this can reinforce cultural ideas of disability making a person inherently inferior or negative, much in the same way the Sissy Villain or Depraved Homosexual trope associate sexual and gender nonconformity with evil. ”
Our introduction to Kaz affirms this notion of him being bad or morally bankrupt, with “Kaz Brekker didn’t need a reason”, etc. This mythologized version of himself, the “bastard of the barrel” actively fed into this misconception. But, as we the audience are privy to his inner thoughts, know that he is just a teenager like every other Crow. He is complex, his disability isn’t this tragic backstory, he just fell off a roof. It’s not his main motivation, nor does he curse revenge for making him a cripple - it is just another part of who he is.
His cane (though the shows version fills me with rage but-) is an extension of Kaz - he fights with it, but it has a purpose. Another common thing in media is for canes to be simply accessories, but while Kaz’ cane is fashionable, it has purpose.
The quote “There was no part of him that was not broken, that had not healed wrong and there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken.” is so fucking powerful. Kaz does not want nor need a cure - its said in Crooked Kingdom that his leg could most likely be healed, but he chooses not to. Abled-bodied people tend to dismiss this thought as Kaz being stubborn but it shows a reality of acceptance of his disability that is just, so refreshing.
In chapter 22 of SOC, we see disabled rage done right - when he is called a cripple by the Fjerdan inmate, Kaz is pissed - the important detail being that he is pissed at the Fjerdan, at society for ableism, not blaming it on being disabled or wishing he could be normal. He takes action, dislocating the asshole’s shoulder and proving to him, and to a lesser extent, himself, that he is just as capable as anyone else, not in spite of, but because he is disabled. And that is the point of Kaz, harking back to the line that “there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken”.
I cried on numerous occasions while reading the SOC duology, but the parts I highlighted in this section especially so. I, as many other disabled people do, have had a long and tumultuous relationship with our disability/es, and for many still struggle. But Kaz Brekker gave me an empowered disabled character who accepts themselves, and that means the world to me.
Keeping that in mind, I hope you can understand why it hurts so much to disabled people when you either erase Kaz’s disability (whether through cosplay or fanfiction), or portray him as a “broken boy uwu”, especially implying that he would want a cure. That flies in the face of canon and is inherently fucking ableist. (if u think im mad wait until the next section)
Next, we have Wylan.
Oh fucking boy.
I love Wylan so fucking much, and y’all just do not seem to understand his character? Like at all? Since this is disability-centric, I’m not going to discuss how the intersection of his queerness also contributes to these issues, but trust me when I say it’s a contributing factor to what i'm going to say.
Wylan, motherfucking Van Eck. If you ableist pricks don’t take ur fucking hands off him right now im going to fight you. I see Wylan as a subversion another, and in my opinion more insidious stereotype pf disabled people - inspiration porn.
Cara Liebowitz in a 2015 article on the blog The Body Is Not An Apology explains in greater detail how inspiration porn is impactful in real life, but media is a major contributing factor to this reality. The technical definition is “the portrayal of people with disabilities as inspirational solely or in part on the basis of their disability” - but that does not cover it fully.
Inspiration porn does lasting damage on the disabled community as it implies that disability is a negative that you need to “overcome” or “triumph” instead of something one can feel proud of. It exploits disabled people for the development of non-disabled people, and in media often the white male protagonist. Framing disability as inherently negative perpetuates ideals of eugenics and cures - see Autism $peaks’ “I Am Autism” ad. Inspiration porn is also incredibly patronizing as it implies that we cannot take care of ourselves, or do things like non-disabled people do. Because i stg some of you tend to think that we just sit around all day wishing we weren’t disabled.
Another important theory ideal that is necessary when thinking about Wylan is the experience of feeling like a burden simply for needing help or accommodations. This is especially true when it comes to familial relationships, and internalized ableism.
The rhetoric that Wylan’s father drilled into his head, that he is “defective”, “a mistake”, and “needs to be corrected”, that he (Jan) was “cursed with a moron for a child” is a long held belief that disabled people hear relentlessly. And while many see Van Eck’s attempted murder of Wylan as “preposturous” and overall something that you would never think happens today - filicide (a parent murdering their child) is more common than you would like to believe. Without even mentioning the countless and often unreported deaths of disabled people due to lack of / insufficient / neglectful medical care, in a study on children who died from the result of household abuse, 40 of 42 of them (95%) were diagnosed with disabilities. Van Eck is not some caricature of ableist ideals - he is a real reflection on how many people and family members view disability.
Circling back to how Wylan unpacks the inspiration porn trope - he is 3 dimensional, he is not only used to develop the other characters, he is just *chefs kiss* Leigh, imo, put so much love and care into the creation of Wylan and his story and character growth that is representative of a larger feeling in the disabled community.
That being said, what you non-disabled motherfuckers have done to him.
The “haha Wylan can’t read” jokes aren’t and were not funny. Y’all literally boiled down everything Wylan is to him being dyslexic. And it’s like,,,, the only thing you can say about him. You ignore every other part of him other than his disability, and then mock him for it. There’s so much you can say about Wylan - simping for Jesper, being band kid and playing the fuckin flute, literally anything else. But no, you just chose to mock his disability, excellent fucking job!
Next up on “ableds stfu” - infantilization! y’all are so fucking condescending to Wylan, and treat him like a fucking toddler. And while partly it is due to his sexuality i think a larger portion is him being disabled. Its in the same vein of people who think that Wylan and Jesper are romantically one sided, and that Jesper only kind of liked Wylan, despite the canon evidence of him loving Wylan just as much. You all view him as a “smol bean”, who needs protecting, and care, when Wylan is the opposite of that. He is a fucking demolitions expert who suggested waking up sleeping men to kill them - what about that says “uwu”. You are treating Wylan as a burden to Jesper and the other Crows when he is an immensely valuable, fully autonomous disabled person - you all just view him as damaged.
And before I get a comment saying that “uhhh Wylan isn’t real why do you care” while Wylan may not be real, how you all view him and treat him has real fucking impacts and informs how you treat people like me. If someone called me an “uwu baby boy” they’d get a fist square in the fucking jaw. Fiction informs how we perceive the world and y’all are making it super fucking clear how you see disabled people.
Finally, I wanted to talk about how the social model of disability is portrayed through Wylan. For those who are unaware, the social model of disability contrasts the medical model, that views the disability itself as the problem, that needs to be cured, whereas the social model essentially boils down to creating an accommodating society, where disability acceptance and pride is the goal. And we see this with Wylan - he is able to manage his father’s estate, with Jesper’s assistance to help him read documents. And this is not out of pity or charity, but an act of love. It is not portrayed as this almighty act for Jesper to play saviour, just a given, which is incredibly important to show, especially for someone who has been abused by family for his disability like Wylan, that he is accepted.
Yet, I still see people hold up Jesper on a pedestal for “putting up with” Wylan, as if loving a disabled person deserves a fucking pat on the back. It’s genuinely exhausting trying to engage with a work I love so much with a fandom that thinks so little of me and my community. It fucking shows.
Overall, Leigh Bardugo as a disabled person wrote two incredibly meticulous and empowered disabled characters, and due to either lack of reading comprehension, ableism, or a quirky mix of both, the fandom has ignored canon and the experiences of disabled people for…. shits and giggles i guess. And yes, there are issues with the Grishaverse and disability representation - while I haven’t finished them yet so I do not have an opinion on it, people have been discussing issues in the KOS duology with ableist ideals. This mini series was no way indicative of the entire disabled experience, nor does it represent my entire view on the representation as a whole. These things need to be met critically in our community, and talked about with disabled voices at the forefront. For example, the limited perspective we get of Wylan and Kaz being both white men, does not account for a large portion of the disabled community and the intersection of multiple identities.
All-in-all, Critique media, but do not forget to also critique fandom spaces. Alternatively, just shut the fuck up :)

its been Months and still every time somebody says las nevadas found family i am filled with rage is it not even more obvious now that they are not found family. the only kind of family they are is a biological family type beat where they all fucking Hate each other im sooo mad. anyway (no pressure) thoughts on ln!purp aside from his relationship w q? i know he was like largely apathetic to most of them maybe i just want to hear salt
i think for the most part, the closest relationship he had to any of them was that of friendly coworkers. disclaimer: this isn't to stop anyone from making AUs and headcanons as they like, just an explanation on why the las nevadas found family dynamic is really not canon, especially any LN family dynamic involving purpled. honestly i kind of appreciate LN family fan content because it means more purpled fan content, and i'm always low on that
when they're hanging out in group, purpled is sort of distant. the others will be joking around with their armor off, and purpled was just standing off to the side, maybe chiming in a handful of times. when he does take his armor off to join in, he ends up putting it back on relatively quickly. however, while he doesn't talk as much in group settings, he still does talk and joke with them to an extent. again, the dynamic of coworkers. i don't think they really hate each other because they're all very friendly, but none of them are particularly close. or even close at all. i'd say the closest family dynamic to them would be those second cousins you see once every few years at family events that you're kind of forced to hang out with.
when he's one on one with other members (excluding slime) he honestly just acts normally. like he's friendly, he jokes with them, but he's not extremely close to any of them, and they never delve into any deep topics or share too much personal information with each other. purpled's not exactly cold to them, but they're not best friends either. nothing about their relationships are particularly interesting because they're literally just friendly coworkers. like he and fundy and foolish aren't bonding over their shared trauma or anything, they're just kinda hanging out. but in his journal, purpled says that "i've been trying to get closer to everyone to appear friendly" it's unlikely he actually enjoys spending time with them or wants to be friends with them, for the most part he was probably trying to get them to like him to gain political power.
the most interesting relationship purpled has in las nevadas (other than with quackity) is definitely with slime. while talking to fundy, he says that slime is "like a whiteboard" because he can just walk up to him, "write something on him" (tell him what to do) and he'll just do it because he "doesn't really think about it, he just does it". purpled notices that slime is very susceptible to manipulation pretty early on. once purpled's plan for seizing power through diplomacy falls through, he targets slime in order to try to get any important information from him. the biggest thing he gets from this is understanding that slime is quackity's legacy, just as the UFO was purpled's. plus, he learns all of quackity's plans. and he uses this to his advantage. we don't see much of this side of their relationship on stream, but by the time purpled betrays las nevadas, it's clear that he never really cared about any of them.

ichiro— not digging the oversized thing for some reason even tho I normally do? Nothing glaringly wrong with it tho like it’s not that bad. I’m glad his pants are black/gray (?) tho because idk I think it would’ve looked cluttered with any other colors
i will say (and this is probably only valid for me but) black and red are my schools colors and I’m having flashbacks to spirit wear days which is slightly upsetting JCJSJDNSNNSHS Ichiro would never go to my school if he were real tho he’s too good for a place like this 💔

actually omg let me ramble more abt it all you've got me chatty now girlies....
like okay first of all omg for the record. its like- im typinf all this out and i pausing a bit. bc its like. sighhh OMG im re-reading stuff i write, and its like1? you know, some ppl take stuff soooo literally when it comes to like. ppl online talking abt their shows. like they take it with all such bad faith, immediately-
and so its like. sigh. i am putting a lot of disclaimers around the whole caitlyn being a rich cop thing bc, and all the other little comments im abt to make.... bc like literally!! sometimes (AND THIS HASNT HAPPENED YET, SO ITS LIKE SOIEGJSIGDSD) -_- you know when ppl get soo mad at u for even bringing sth like that UP abt their little tv shows? and its like oh christmas, help. like babygirl, im not trying to cancel it, like you keep saying- im just trying to talk more specifically abt these aspect and the bits of it i dont like / dont appeal to me o_o . and some genuine criticisms im having. bc i do still like the show well enough- its quite nice actstually :3 -but i just have some parts i wanna prod at. and which i mean ok im the sillygoose making up ppl now in my head, abt ppl who make up things but- you know what i mean my love </3
anyway in truth i AM still being realistic here like. its like- i wouldnt expect a netflix LOL show to be truly that conscious of, like, caitlyn. like cmon- no way.... and in general, theres a lot of stuff in the show that does have that sort of milk toast feeling about it, yeah? playing it safe; keeping it all marketable. make some stuff a bit more surface level without going too deep and make sure you depict things certain ways and etc.... like i didnt expect that much from it. and so im not horribly caught off guard. but nor am i, like, pleasantly surprised by its like progressiveness- think i stand by what i said, in the beginning, you know?
like. i feel like its growing on me. and i like the show, i do! i like the characters and i like the story and i like whats happening. but i do feel like... eh. theres a bit of it thats not entirely engaged for me, and thats fine. :3 it can just be a fun little ride and not everything has to be a banger. bc i rlly dont think this is. its- again its like i said in the beginning which i said already but sigpjsdhjs. not a lot of this is... THAT original, you know? which- im not saying sth has to be ORIGINAL to be good but its like... ehhh idk. idk how to say it best. i feel like its a lot of expected sort of worldbuilding from things ive seen before and dynamics to expect and whatnot and its all executed quite nicely but theres no.... i guess its just lacking a personal depth, if that makes sense? which i mention bc i feel like thats the sort of thing this story really needs to make it its own- because it IS a story about a corrupt world, but like what i said with it being so sanitised but also it being fast (a comment below on the pacing) and you know.. you know. its okay. :3 is wht im saying. :3 but its not spectacular. and
i think a bit of stuff .. hm. idk how to say it. im not sure on the pacing! bc i feel like its deffo going fast enough tht im not getting bored and idk it feels like its somehow. both at the right speed but also like... idk. it feels like we're missing so much stuff, still. i kinda wish they'd... take a bit more time? like squints. its so odd how theres such a major timeskip like that in such a short show which has so many little guys and its like eh idk. they do do the legwork to properly establish stuff but nonetheless. part of me wishes they'd have explored more stuff in the interim- bc its like O_O its like: i do feel how long the sisters have been apart, but also do i? idk bestie. not sure how to feel. part of me even feels, like... sigh idk. i feel like it might have been a better pacing decision to, like, have started the show right after the big time skip and give exposition abt the stuff pre skip through flashbacks bc its just an odd length of time i guess... an odd focus choice. if we'd been grounded in this timeframe for the whole show and really got to establish this status quo best... eh. idk. bc its like- sometimes some guys die too quick, or stuff is shaken up so fast its like. girl i never even got the chance to settle iwht what the normal was before so this really doesnt impact as much as it should, you know?
hmmm what else do ihave to say... hm. idk. not much i dont fink. tahts it for now. the music has been getting a little better and i stand by what i said vis a vis the art- its nice, yknow? the designs are all qutie nice. its deffo... its DEFFO, like, you know. i can tell this was from a video game. LOL. but thats okay doaky<3

Alright alright alright alright it's tiiiiiiime. Always wanted to rank the super powers in KnB so now imma do that.
Disclaimer, this won't be about the characters themselves or their attributes, strictly just the skills. If I rank a players skill above another that doesn't necessarily mean I think X character is stronger than Y character or anything this is just signature skill. Also i have watched KnB at least 8 times, and the movie at least three times so if I mess up someone's ability roast me I deserve it.
Now enough nonsense let's do it
#8 Kagami's Super Jumps
Okay don't get me wrong dunking is the coolest move in basketball, but kagami had so many cooler areas of his game that turning him into a dunk beast by the end of the series really takes away his amazing style. Also he says he wants to fight in the air and midorima points out "it doesn't matter how high you jump I know where you're coming and what you're doing" like super hops are great and all but he should've used it for enhancing his other moves.
(Meteor Jam is sick as hell though, ngl)
#7 Aomine Daiki's Formless Shot
Okay, this ability is not bad. It's low mostly because Aomine doesn't use it/need it. He's shown to be so powerful that this is kinda just him fucking around to troll his opponents, which don't get me wrong style points are real, but this is for sure aomine's weakest ability
However it is sooooo deadly, it's powerful but Formless Shot vs. Forced Zone Activation? Yeah don't lie you know which one is way scarier.
#6 Murasakibara Perfect Defense.
Yeah that's right defense is fucking sick. You wish you could defend half as nice as murasakibara. This dude literally fought an uncrowned king, the phantom sixth man, and a runner up generation of miracles candidate on his own at the same time. And only lost to some invisible shots. He covers EVERYTHING!!! if you don't got that DEEP deep range you do not get to play. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, say hello to dikembe mutombo on your way to the bench.
#5 all the dojutsu, yeah that's right I'm naming all the eyes (Emperors, Eagle, Hawk, whatever Nash had) dojutsu. In fact I'm naming Emperors eye Byaku-Shar-Rinne-gan and you cannot stop me. And even though the eye tier list is easy to figure out, the ability to see the whole court is fantastic and any point guard with that level of awareness is deadly. The secondary abilities granted I count as skills not as baseline super powers, i.e. killer handles from akashi (which Kise uses), or seeing a perfect back tip steal opportunity with eagle eye so those aren't on the list. And I think each eye is strong enough to warrant putting them all together here
Now to break the established rule
#4 Kuroko's Phantom series AND God Passes
Yeah that's right, I'm putting techniques in a list I specifically made to not talk about techniques, bite me. Ignite series is top tier, misdirection and misdirection overflow are god tier (yeah so he can use it once, big deal, it's still god tier) and the phantom series are just too fun. If I had to pick one ability from kuroko though for this list purpose, his misdirection is his ability. Yeah it can't be spammed and without it he's nearly useless but ill take a player who can take charges and force opposing players into foul trouble over a ball hog any day.
#3 Midorima Shintaro - High Arcing Three
Okay here's the thing Midorima Shintaro High Arcing Three is a dumb name and I'm mad that I'm placing it this high up on the list but. Objectively. 3>2. So yeah, take your spot with pride green boy. Yeah that's right, I think it's a neat ability but I didn't think it should be this high up, until you sit down and realize yeah cool your sick ass hops and your full paint and midrange defense and your handles are all well and good. But you're getting two points while I get three from anywhere. And don't lie seeing that mid air catch and shoot was the absolute SICKEST thing ever. Akashi liked it so much he straight up STOLE it. Sure dunks are hype but that is the most SKILLFUL thing ever shown. Now to the toppest of top tiers.
#3 Aomine Daiki Forced Zone Activation
Golly Gee Willickers Dai-chan how come your mom let's you have two basketball superpowers. Okay I hate to say it Zone is cool but it sucks that it becomes pretty much required by the end of the series to stay relevant. That being said, Aomine can activate it whenever and that's insane. If Aomine continued training, you realize he'd be nearly if not entirely unstoppable except by arguably only one character in the series
Two if you think Akashi with his eyes could beat Aomine (yeah he beat Kagami's zone, but Akashi even considered Aomine the strongest at teiko, so if aomine stayed serious he'd be even more of an untouchable monster)
#2 Shogo Haizaki - Steal
Okay okay okay okay okay, yes. Technically I'm putting kise twice. Honestly steal is to copy what red eyes is to blue eyes in yugioh. Steal has so much POTENTIAL to be the strongest ability in the entire show. Being able to take the opponents moves away would cripple many players. If Haizaki trained hard he may have even discovered perfect Steal so he could stop the Generation of Miracles techniques, the only two who wouldn't have an issue would be aomine (because technically Formless shot can't really be stolen, he can just do a Formless shot from a different form and just yeah) and Kise (I think kise had more techniques in his toolbox, and that he was too scared to try those moves against haizaki because he was nervous at seeing Steal for the first time). Steal is busted but it has nothing against number one.
#1 Kise Ryota's Copy and PERFECT COPY
Copy is actually insane, while he can't shut down the ability to use a move like Haizaki, being able to do your move but better is probably just as good. Yeah you can use that dunk on me, and yeah you might know how to defend against your move, but im faster stronger and smarter than you. Kise literally just "I am Kakashi of the Sharingan I know 10000 jutsu" nah son I'm Kise Ryota of the musically gifted (love eagleburger) and I know all the basketball moves.
And PERFECT COPY, duuuuuude if you don't think perfect COPY is the best ability in KnB you're actually just not smart. When Kise with perfect copy was THE ACE on a team MADE OF ALL THE ACES, yeah you just straight up win with that ability. Also kise didn't even use it to its max ability, yeah he copies the generation of miracles but they say that he removes the limits of his normal copy so now he can copy anybody. Yeah it takes a huge toll on his body but kise could copy NBA players (likely for even less time than normal perfect copy) if he really wanted to. So yeah, Kise is dumb strong.

rating mankai company based on character design
Note: I will take into account hair, color scheme, sprite poses, mostly outfits that are not from plays or scouts, and memorability. This is half an objective view and half my personal opinion.
Disclaimer: I curse a lot for comedic effort. I am mean because I am funny. No, you cannot disagree.
Spring 🌸
sakuya: you get what you see. a literal spring babey. his hair and color scheme’s a little generic, but he’s mankai’s poster boy, so that’s understandable. speaking of generic, his main pose is just this emoji 🧍♂️ his outfits tend to be kinda basic, but any outfit with a mostly pink top gets him bonus points. 6/10
masumi: okay his hair is elite. probably one of the most memorable character design aspects among the cast. his mole and eyes also make him very pretty. love my boy’s dark color scheme. unfortunately, points must be docked for baiting us with the emo fit, then as the story progresses, he starts dressing like the trust fund kid he is smh. 9/10
tsuzuru: i love you tsuzu but. my mans is so basic. if he didn’t have such a great personality, he’d be as bland as untoasted white bread. the saya of a3. his best design aspect is the fact that he doesn’t dye his roots. his outfits look comfy, but not necessarily eye-catching. 4/10
itaru: everyone who starts a3! with no knowledge of these characters has one (1) thought about itaru. sec sea man. so obviously there’s something appealing/good about his character design. i think part of the appeal is his fuck-all demeanor. obviously, his eyes and hairstyle are attractive, but the way the artists draw him gives him an air of not caring, which is also attractive in a way. his dyed tips are also nice. he looks kinda lame when he dresses professionally, but his casual outfits hit. especially the ones with light pink. 8/10
citron: although i’m not a big fan of the “character is foreign and therefore must talk and dress different and be funny” trope in these types of media, his fashion does make him stand out from the other characters who tend to have more basic clothes. citron’s summer, travel, and autumn outfits SLAP and anyone who says otherwise has bad taste. his hair and eyes are interesting, but his overall color scheme can be a bit repetitive. 7/10
chikage: i hate this guy’s fucking bowlcut. fucking salad bowl lookin ass. every outfit is the same turtleneck and sneakers in two alternate colors. his outfits are so plain. only thing i like is his casual outfit glasses. HOWEVER. that’s the point. he’s supposed to look boring and blend in because he’s a spy. it’s a smart design, i just don’t like it so im docking points. stay mad about it. 5/10
Summer ☀️
tenma: im yawning. you think tsuzu was boring? this guy has orange hair and i still find his design boring. that’s how you know he’s basic. he’s got generic messy shounen protag hair. he could be from any property. if i drew fanart of him, people would ask where he’s from. he either dresses like your slightly homophobic frat boy classmate or a grandfather who gets his shit stolen by the asshole kids next door. 2/10
yuki: he has the r a n g e. all of yuki’s casual outfits hit. they’re all different, but cute in their own way. to no one’s surprise, one of the best styled characters. though i like his general color scheme, i’m personally not the biggest fan of his hairstyle. it’s okay, but a little plain at times. but i think it suits him well. 7/10
muku: i love him. muku’s design is what i love about this game. you see him, and you immediately know what his character archtype is supposed to be. he’s the soft, cute boy. and if this was a mediocre series, that’d be all muku is. but since this is a3, he’s so much more than that. he’s smart, passionate, sensitive to others’ feelings, and protective. a3 does a great job designing characters that look exactly like their archtype, but having a much more developed personality than that. getting back to the actual subject at hand, i love his hairstyle and color, as well as his outfits. you can never go wrong with light pink hair. i may be biased but fuck you. 10/10
misumi: another great memorable design. his eye shape and hair style are really unique. his outfits also elevate his design. street fashion is always a plus for me. though sumi’s design is special in the world of a3! where most of the characters are just. guys. regular lookin dudes. i think that outside of the game, his design would not be as unique. 8/10
kazunari: personally, im a fan. maybe it’s cause i have an affinity for blonde anime boys. but his hairstyle is pretty unique and his trendy looks set him apart from most characters, even outside this game. and he has a pretty lovable expression in his sprites. his fatal flaw is that his fits are either a hit or miss. they’re either really cute or wtf. at least he’s memorable. 8/10
kumon: i love that he reminds me of an owl. his hair and eyes are very cute and his color scheme is great. and i think they did a great job making him look related to juza, but still very much his own character. but he dresses like your classmate from middle school that looks like a nike-sponsored highlighter. yeah, he’s the sporty one, and i like the windbreakers but... i cannot excuse his summer fit. also, i find his design a little tame compared to some of the other characters in the game. 6/10
Autumn 🍂
banri: i hate his hair. i hate it so much. i know in canon it’s nice and he takes good care of it, but it looks so fucking greasy. the style makes him look so greasy and it makes me mad. he looks like an asshole. i mean, he is, so it fits. if this dumb bitch changed his hair more often, i’d like his design so much more. you saw this coming; his love for cheetah print is fucking repulsive. BUT, maybe unpopular opinion, minus the animal print, his sense of fashion is not bad. why do yall clown on it. if the fit is fresh, the fit is fresh. anyway, he looks like an ass, but objectively his design is kinda eh. 5/10
juza: im sorry im DEADLY fucking biased when it comes to juza, but he’s so handsome. his hair is a such a rich, pretty shade of purple and his eyes are so mesmerizing. his hairstyle is so attractive. his face is so pretty. yeah his design isn’t crazy unique, but the simplicity just works. im so sorry im this man’s whore i didn’t choose this life... but i can stop being a simp for one second to say that he has a boring fashion sense. i mean it’s kinda hot how simple his outfits are but his travel fit is good-- wait a minute i just remembered the fucking sandals. docking one point. 9/10
taichi: okay shut the fuck up i LOVE taichi’s design. so eye-catching and fun. as i’ve said i love street fashion, and taichi’s lil e-boy fits are right up my alley. that shade of bright red goes so well with his fashion sense, making a really cohesive design. with his main outfit, you can tell he purposely dresses like that to be trendy and it’s so smart. 10/10
omi: im sorry omi stans but his design is kinda,, boring. i legit had such a hard time identifying him when i first got into this game. the scar saves it a bit. but... only a bit. he’s just got. hair. and a dad outfit. i mean his tits are huge, but i don’t think i can call that a character design aspect. kinda forgettable design. i don’t dislike it though, so he ranks higher than tenma did. 3/10
sakyo: im not sure why but i really like sakyo’s design?? the contrast of his light hair and his dark clothes is nice. also, megane rights. even when i thought he was an npc during my first playthrough, i really dug his design and thought he was memorable. i actually cannot pinpoint a reason why. i wish i had more constructive things to say... but upon thinking about it, he has a karen haircut, which kinda dampers my thoughts on his design. i like his moles, but i honestly did not notice them until the game pointed them out. 7/10
azami: azami has a damn good design. i don’t think anyone can deny that. the long hair, the contrast of black hair and bright blue eyes, his eye shape. all very eye-catching design aspects. and the street fashion style strikes again. the color scheme matches well with everything. this review is lame, but there’s really only good things i can say about his design so. 10/10
Winter ❄️
tsumugi: it’s so late and im so tired of looking at these sprites. anyway, tsumugi’s design is okay. i think his color scheme’s a bit limited and his outfits are a bit meh. he has a more respectable bowlcut than chikage, but it’s still a bowlcut and it’s still boring. i think the best part of his design is his eyes, they’re very soft and kind. but other than that, tsumugi looks pretty basic. 5/10
tasuku: tbh, i didn’t even realize that the godza member tasuku was the same character as the winter troupe guy in the game’s opening until the middle of episode 3... yeah. im slow. ooooooor... tasuku has the worst fucking design in the game. yeah i said it. come at me, but tasuku’s design fucking sucks. i literally thought he was a minor character until they forced me to realize he wasn’t. his fashion sense is... questionable at best. i look at that man’s hair and think he doesn’t shampoo. he looks so bland i could dry up from looking at him. im sorry but his tits do not make up for the sheer fucking snorefest of his character design. he’s so boring i won’t elaborate anymore. 1/10
hisoka: ya get what ya see part 2. i like that i can tell he’s the sleepy and mysterious character just by his design, but honestly, that’s a character trope im generally not a big fan of. so i wasn’t thrilled by hisoka’s design at first. but it’s effective. i like the hairstyle with the white hair, but i’m not too fond of his color scheme. his outfits look comfy and soft though. it makes sense, but it’s nothing too memorable if you compare him to characters outside the game. 5/10.
homare: ah, now this is a memorable character design. his hairstyle annoyed me in the beginning, but now i love it. it’s so unique and fun. and i like the purple. i also like his outfits. very classy. but honestly, most of his charisma lies in his face. i think that the pure eccentricity of the hairstyle is enough to put him in the top tier without considering any other element. you really could not find this design in any other media. fuck it. i don’t need to consider anything else. 9/10
azuma: i’ll be honest. im not a fan of long-haired anime men. especially the pretty, flirty types. i don’t know, i just don’t vibe with them. originally, i didn’t like azuma’s design, but now i do. i don’t know how, but i think it’s because azuma is just that powerful. his ponytail makes it more bearable for me and i like the way his bangs frame his face. he just has pretty eyes and face. unfortunately his color scheme is a little too repetitive for me and his casual outfits are a little boring. 6/10
guy: maybe it’s because he looks dead inside, but i love him. i don’t even know this character that well yet, but i think his deadass expression is great. the darker under-eyeline sets him apart from the other characters and i love how he dresses. i think his hair is kinda eh. i personally like it, but objectively, it’s meh. it’s a solid design, but ngl it’s nothing special when i really think about it. 6/10

i should also throw it out there real quick that i am kin w/ infinite, n this is actually one of my two canons (both of which are my own aus lmfao wow). i didn't go into it expecting it to be but sfsfsgdfs here we are ig!! for that reason it's got extra importance to me n this definitely contributes to the euphoria i get from it!! it's a lil odd writing ur own canon,,? but i kinda just go w/ the flow!
the au n, the story that i will start Eventually, revolves around infinite n starline (obvi) n it's honestly just ... the tl;dr is big healing momence n, what's this? uh oh sisters !!! they are falling in love 😳😳😳
uhhhh so infinite is an android, made by eggman. that's like, the most notable canon divergence here! super important context to have. i've got a whole big theory on the possibility of sega originally intending infinite to be an artificial being (which i explored in the works for my Other canon too), stemming from not only the scene in forces wherein infinite comments on sonic's "data", but a line of dialogue from tails in one of the last stages of the game where he Literally Says "so this is where eggman built infinite". that ... i mean. that contrasts w/ episode shadow pretty hard don't it?? would explain why that dlc was so rushed, n the comic too. ANYWAY adsfsfs um that's a seperate ramblepost. yeah!!!
they are also agender n use they/them (primarily) as well as he/him!! so i'll be refering to them w/ those pronouns!
after the war, infinite is taken in by the resistance n, instead of being dismantled, they're basically given a chance to rehabilitate themselves. it's agreed that they won't be reprogrammed, as despite the potential risks, it feels wrong to do so; like a violation of their free will, individuality n thinking. if infinite is to be a good person, it's not gonna be bc other ppl recreated their entire personality, it's gonna be bc it's what they themselves truly want. robot ethics idk man!! u can't tell me that sonic n co wouldn't offer this to infinite if they offered it to metal in IDW,,,, i am Standing By This!!!
it's, yknow, a bit rocky, at first. infinite has to really fight the urge to return to eggman (something they already tried once, before the resistance found them; they were cast out). it's a struggle against what they were built to do, against giving into unhealthy familiarity over facing a, while healthier, unfamiliarity. new faces, a new life, turning their back on their mission n creator, it's like, a lot.
they work for/with the sonic crew, rebuilding the world they tore down as deemed fitting justice, being closely monitored for a bit as a natural precaution. as it becomes apparent infinite truly no longer has any ambition to harm others (they don't have much ambition for anything, really), they're then granted more freedom, n start taking on more important missions!! it at least gives them something to do, keeps them occupied. they have issues with dissociation, unreality, whether they're truly a real person bc, well, android. feeling purposeless, n a lack of worth, especially. a need to prove themselves. heavy stuff. i'll kinda go into that a bit more in a sec. their work grounds them, if only temporarily.

now, as the comics are ongoing, n as this is already an au, there's gonna be divergence, n i must admit i haven't planned out all that yet. there's a lot i have to consider!! infinite being w the resistance/restoration is a big game changer ... tho i Do believe that they were absent, likely on a far out mission during most of the chaos. eggman doesn't know abt them, nor does starline or anyone else other than the sonic crew; n some civilians that recognise them.
i'm not 100% sure of Exactly when it happens, but i think it's just after bad guys, that infinite is sent to locate n bring in starline. it doesn't prove too difficult. there's a whole, starline realising "oh fuck it's you???", some bickering n, the two don't hit it off right away. they're both kinda like. not mentally stable ddgddgdds,,,
so uh. starline ends up essentially going thru the same sorta shit as infinite. careful watch, rebuilding, all that jazz, making sure he can be trusted. he's like... very very lost, quite like infinite is. the world has kinda calmed down, in the meanwhile.
it's at this point i'm gonna go ahead n drop a bit of a ramble i subjected my friends to a while ago, to articulate the way i see the two, n their dynamic together!! i was considering making this it's own post a while ago!
analysing their characters a bit... let's look at starline. Like. so we have this, in bad guys, which SENT ME tbfh;
i feel like it's the moment that triggers starline onto the path he is rn canonically,,, he's clearly like. rly mad n bitter. the core of this?? he wants his work n his efforts to be acknowledged.
he's big angry. still kind of in denial at this stage. he has himself obsessed w/ the idea of making eggman see him as Worthy, that if he just tries hard enough, that'll happen. he's dependent on eggman's validation, n i mean, it's no surprise; he's followed him a Long Time by the sounds of it.
then in the recent issue, hold the fuck up, bc we got, This;
god. my god it's all comin together now homies. this???? this right here??? it is the CLASSIC "i have to do this to prove i'm strong n powerful n smart n worthy n should be respected please Give Me Acknowledgement" ..... n who else is Like That? can u see where im going w/ this?
i think most ppl are aware of infinite's character being extremely indicative of self worth/esteem issues n the need to prove themself, right?? the extreme adversity, repulsion, perhaps even fear toward the idea of being weak. the compulsion to prove otherwise, to show their strength, to become powerful, to conquer to make a point. their theme exudes this same energy as their behaviour in-game; an aggressive attitude, trying to assert themself, while if u rly listen...? the lyrics are actually really sad in places. it reeks of cover up, although composition wise, a v interesting thing to note is a lot of the more telling lyrics are prominent while some of the affirming ones are in the background. indicative of a desire to have their true feelings be heard but caught in a vicious loop?
okay okay that's yet Another different analysis. AHEM.
not to get deep on main (oh who the hell am i kidding that's the point of this entire thing) but i think starline has issues w/ his worth in a similar way to infinite. they both seem to have this need to Prove something, whether it's to others or themselves, n get caught in a toxic spiral of doing worse n worse things for Some kind of validation or acknowledgement. they'll go to really big lengths chasing that, n both of them ultimately sought validation in the wrong place n wrong way.
this is a big part of my starfinite dynamic,, n so, what happens, as they get closer n open up??? we have them BOTH realising together that they don't have to do fuck all to prove anything to anyone. they don't need to do all this to show they're strong n smart n worth something, not to anyone else OR themselves. they're enough as they are. they bond over that shared feeling that they have to do xyz, to prove themselves, n that desire to just finally be acknowledged n appreciated n help each other thru it. to help each other understand that other ppls approval, or lack thereof, doesn't define them, their strength, intelligence, and worthiness.
i feel like they have an interesting parallel between them in like... the above could be taken as a general analysis, but to go more in depth on this au specifically?? ...
starline followed eggman for presumably a long time n it no doubt left him feeling a heavy and deep regret for all that time wasted n spent on an unhealthy path. infinite kinda teaches him that what matters is what he's doing Now n also reminds him that if none of it happened, starline wouldn't have learnt a lot of the serious skills he has. n while starline still feels bad, he also realises himself that, he likely never would have crossed infinite's path if none of it happened. for that reason, he wouldn't take it back.
infinite has only been recently made, on the other hand. they haven't really existed long, yet, but so far their experiences haven't been very positive n it can be .... discouraging. starline sorta, shows infinite their limited experiences w/ the world are a very tiny fraction of what's out there, n things can absolutely change, yes, including for the better; that's the essence of life, a neverending, constant flow of change.
it's a big tale of moving on n letting go, honestly; made easier as they're doing it together. n as they heal n grow, well... these bitches gay. sfshshdgds like, ig that's putting it p bluntly but!! they start to trust each other, understand each other more. as they get to truly know who the other is, they both start developing The Feelings. they're both pretty oblivious n the reveal is totally unknown so far!! yeah, i know, bummer. i suck. boo. adafsfsds however i can say there will be lots of content in the making!! if that soothes the soul! i've got of ideas i hope to bring to life.
ofc there's still a lot of more specific things i haven't covered here so! if y'all want more juice hmu w/ more focused questions but !! this is the overview n i hope it was a decent read now that gave some uhhh! Cool Insight! yea!!! ✌

When I met my Date on Another Date
Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson and the Olympians. (This applies for all chapters)

Chapter 1
She had been waiting for almost an hour now. “Ma’am, are you sure you don’t want to order?”, asked the impatient waitress. “Yes i’m sure. I think i’ll wait just a little longer.”, Annabeth responded. “Suit yourself, but I really don’t think he’s coming!” How dare that waitress. She had a good mind to call the manager and report her waitress for being rude to a customer. She sighed, it was useless. And besides, she was probably right. Lately, she had seen Luke getting more and more distant and had suspected that something was up, but when she asked him he only got mad and accused her of not trusting him. That's when she definitely knew something was up because due to her past, trust had always been a rather fragile subject with her. Everyone in her family who she had trusted had left her and Luke had promised that he’d never leave her. He was the first person she’d trusted since the accident, when her mom died. The Luke she knew would never have said something like that to her. But she had never thought that it had been bad enough for him to miss their anniversary dinner! Had he forgotten?
She was just about to get up and leave when someone sat down in the seat across from her. “Sorry, i'm late. Traffic was terrible today.”, he announced loudly, gaining the attention of several people around, as well as that rude waitress. “Um, who ar-” “Just go with it”, he whispered, cutting her off, “I don't know who you’re waiting for, but whoever stood you up is a jerk”. She was about to retort that he knew absolutely nothing but kept her mouth shut. Instead, she turned to glare at him and was momentarily stunned. The man was probably around her age, with tousled, jet-black hair, beautiful sea-green eyes and tan skin. He was wearing a dark green shirt and balck trousers and looked simply heavenly. She forced herself to look away, just as he whispered, “Wanna get out of here?” She nodded, Luke definitely wasn’t coming and what was the harm in going out with a cute stranger she just met. Wait, WHAT?! What was happening to her. Firstly, she HAD a boyfriend, she couldn’t think other guys were cute! Plus, he was a complete stranger! He could be a serial killer for all she knew, she wasn’t going to go with him! “Um, sorry. I can’t”, she told him. He shrugged, “Suit yourself”, just thought you’d want to get away from all the people looking at us weird. I could drop you to your car and then you’ll be done for the night. She felt her face redden. Of course he didn’t want to go somewhere with her, he just wanted to get away. In fact, someone like him probably had a girlfriend, maybe an adorable redhead with freckles all over her face and green eyes like him. Maybe she was British and said his name in a cute little accent, she felt sick at the thought. Wait, what was she thinking? She didn’t care! She had a boyfriend of her own, one who loved her very much… though clearly not enough to remember their anniversary.
“Yeah, sure”, she quickly responded before her thoughts could get any worse. They walked outside, an awkward silence between them. “Oh um I came here by cab. I didn’t bring my car”, she quietly said, breaking the silence. “I could call a cab for you, or I could drop you off in my car if you like”, said the stranger. She had to stop calling him stranger! He had helped her out of such an awkward situation and she didn’t even know his name! “Im Annabeth, by the way. Thanks for helping me out there”, she stuck her hand out for him to shake. “Percy, and no problem”, he said, shaking her hand with a crooked grin on that face. Oh the things that smile did to her… STOP IT! She mentally chided herself. Then she realised she was still holding his hand and quickly let go, blushing. “Um, you don’t need to go to that trouble of dropping me”, she said. “Oh it's no trouble! I live on 3rd street, I could drop you along the way if you live that way” He literally just gave his address to a stranger, what was wrong with this guy, she thought. What if she had been some sort of crazy stalker? But it would be a great help if he could drop her off and she lived there too. So she found herself doing the unthinkable, giving her address to a stranger, hopping into their car and driving to her apartment where she lived. “Oh, I live along 3rd street too” “Great, i’ll drop you then”, he gave her another grin and she felt her knees weaken.
They climbed into his car, a dark blue Lamborghini Huracán. He was rich! It was approximately a twenty minute drive there. He turned onto the street and an awkward silence filled the car. “So, Annabeth, were you meeting your boyfriend at the restaurant back there today?” He was just a stranger, yet somehow she felt like she could trust him and had the urge to tell him everything. It was okay, she reasoned with herself, he was just a stranger that she would probably never see again after today and thus it didn't matter if she said anything or not. “Yes, yes i was supposed to see my boyfriend. It’s our one year anniversary.” “Oh”, he raised an eyebrow, “He missed your anniversary?” “I’m sure there’s a valid reason!” she said defensively. “Never said there wasn’t. But he shouldn’t have stood you up like that. If he couldn’t make it he should have told you.” She sighed “You’re right” He looked surprised. “Damn right I am!” They laughed loudly. That was just what she had needed after such a night! “This may come out wrong but I’m honestly kinda glad he stood you up” “What?!?!” “If he hadn’t, I would never have met you. You seem like a cool person” “Oh...thanks”, she mumbled, blushing. “Hey, wanna go out for coffee sometime?” He asked, it seemed like he was nervous. “Not like a date, just as friends.”, he quickly added. She giggled (What was wrong with her? She never giggled!), he looked cute all flustered like that. “Sure. I would love to!” He grinned, “Great! Here’s my number.” He dictated it as she put it into her phone and saved it as Percy (Restaurant Guy). “Text me”, he said, still grinning hugely. She nodded, blushing.
He dropped her off at her building with a quick wave and she noticed that he lived just two buildings down. She entered her flat, thinking of all that had just happened. Luke had stood her up, a stranger had come to save her, she’d gotten into his car and had him drop her (hence giving away her address), she’d told him all about her and Luke and she’d saved his number in his phone and had promised to text him (and she was going to make good on the promise). Yep, something had definitely come over her. As soon as she had taken off her shoes, she plopped onto the couch and called Luke. But her call went straight to voicemail. She decided that they should talk in person about this and simply left a message asking him to come over whenever he could. Then, she texted Percy.
Annabeth Chase: Hey, this is Annabeth!
He responded within a couple of minutes.
Percy Jackson: Hey :)
Annabeth Chase: So...
Percy Jackson: So… tomorrow?
Annabeth Chase: Tomorrow? What?
Percy Jackson: R coffee d8, Chase! Forgotten already? :p
Annabeth Chase: Of course not! I just didn’t think it would be this soon!
Percy Jackson: Is tom not good 4 u?
Annabeth Chase: I am free tomorrow, but…
Percy Jackson: If ur free then lets do it! If not then mayb some other time…
She was glad he wasn’t pushing to come tomorrow or to tell him why she couldn’t make it. Luke would have done that… He always got upset if she couldn’t make it and always wanted to know where she was. She didn’t mind too much because there shouldn’t be any secrets between them, but the way he said it made it seem like he didn’t trust her.
Annabeth Chase: How about the day after? I’m with Luke tomorrow.
Percy Jackson: Sure! Grt so uk that lil cafe called “Cafe Coffee”? Lets meet there tomorrow at 4? K?
Annabeth Chase: Sure!
Percy Jackson: Its a date!
She stared at her phone, wondering if she should correct him. On one hand, she was pretty sure by “date” he only meant one between friends (gosh, she barely knew him for an hour and they were friends now?!), but if she didn’t correct him it might seem, just a tiny bit, like it was a date. What if Luke saw the text? But on the other, she couldn’t ignore the slight thrill that went down her spine when she read those three words. “Its a date!”
NO! What was she thinking?! She was a taken woman! She loved Luke and would never cheat on him! They loved each other very much and would never cheat on each other! Right? She couldn’t deny the fact that it had crossed her mind recently that Luke was cheating. She had instantly dismissed the idea but now that she actually thought about it, all the signs were there. He wasn’t responding to her calls or texts, he had gotten furious when he saw her scrolling through his phone (she had only been looking for a picture she’d taken on his phone, why had he gotten so mad? Did he have something to hide?) and he stood her up on their Anniversary (without a phone call or a text message to say that he was busy or to wish her. Had he forgotten? Or did he just not care?). Was he cheating on her? He probably wasn't; she was just being paranoid now. She put her phone down and lay down on the bed, eventually falling asleep with these thoughts pushed to the back of her head.
