☆ tags: lucifer x gn!reader, finally giving him a factory tour since the anime won't, lucifer is like me—doesn't do well with surprises at first, i like him a lot because he deserves to be happy, referred to as MC (not Y/N) ☆
The door to Lucifer's study is heavy and impressive—nearly as impressive as the demon it houses. The first time you tried to push it open, you were surprised by its weight. Normally one of the brothers would open it and you'd trail in before or after them, depending on who was in trouble. But when you struggled to push it, you realized that it made perfect sense. Nothing less for Lucifer, the Avatar of Pride. A title with as much heft as this slab of mahogany.
You're standing before the door once again, hand poised to knock, and you wonder if you should just turn back and abandon your plan.
"If your intention is to replicate a statue, I suggest you choose another place to settle," an amused voice says from behind you.
Lucifer's glove appears in the corner of your eye, reaching around you for the door knob. He opens it easily, waiting until you step in to the room. In the fireplace, flames lick at the protective mesh screen, cracking and twisting around stacked logs. He takes a seat at his desk and gestures to one of the plush armchairs.
"Should I assume that you wanted to discuss something?"
Suddenly, at the prospect of speaking, your tongue turns to cotton in your mouth.
"I did—do, I mean. I do want to talk about something. Are you almost done your work for the week?"
He glances at the stack of papers by his side. "Just about. I should be done in a few days, but Diavolo likely has more for me to do," he says, a minuscule sigh escaping between his words. "Why?"
.
.
Diavolo is a fair demon, you reminded yourself as you followed Barbatos through the winding halls. You recognized the path to the pavilion after all this time. He's a reasonable one...most of the time.
More importantly, Diavolo had told you to not be shy. He was the Devildom prince, yes, but he was also your acquaintance, ready to help whenever he could. Surely, with this blanket statement of approval, you would be safe from being struck where you stood.
"Oh, MC, what a surprise!" Diavolo greeted you with a tight hug before ushering you into an empty chair. The table already had an extra plate and steaming cup of tea. "Come, come, Barbatos said that the cake is a new flavor. You should try it."
The cake was good, you assumed, as it always was. Something about passion fruit and newt tail worked well, but your tiny bites tasted dull as you waited for Diavolo to ask the reason for your visit. Luckily, you didn't have to wait long. He took a delicate sip from his own cup and settled into his chair with folded hands.
"I'm guessing you didn't come here to have cake," he said gently, taking note of your bouncing knees. You shook your head.
"I'm here for a favor, actually."
"I'm not a genie, but if it's within my power," he said, amber eyes crinkling as he laughed, "I'll do my best to grant it."
"Right," you breathed and scrunched the material of your pants into sweating fists. "My first question is, am I allowed to return to the human world during the break?"
"Of course, MC. You're an exchange student here, not a prisoner." He looked over his shoulder at Barbatos, who nodded. "Taking the portal by yourself might be difficult, but we could arrange something."
"Right, right. The next thing is, can Lucifer accompany me for that weekend? Without having to worry about any work?" You scooted to the edge of your chair. "I know he does a lot of necessary and important work, but I'd like for Lucifer to have a break—a genuine one—for the surprise I'm planning."
.
.
"A surprise?" At the word, Lucifer's expression hardens.
"Yes!" you say, hands coming up to reassure him. "But Diavolo said he wouldn't assign you any work for the next week, so once you're done, you can get ready for the human world—"
"Who put you up to this? Mammon? Satan? Belphegor?" He bites on a gloved thumb, muttering, "Things have been suspiciously quiet lately. I should have suspected something, but i didn't think that they would use you."
Your smile falters, and your mood goes up in smoke. "Excuse me?"
"If they want to set me up, they should've been less obvious," he scoffs. "I'm not going with you, MC."
You expected a variety of reactions. Hesitation, for one. He hasn't had a true break from errands in a long time; at least, not for as long as you've known him. Relief, possibly, at putting distance between himself and his responsibilities. Maybe even excitement at the prospect of having a solo trip with you without interruption. But outright suspicion and refusal? This, you weren't prepared for.
"It's not..." you trail off, tightening your jaw as if the pressure could hold together your disappointed heart. "It's not a plot."
And the change in your tone must finally break through his musing because he looks up and sees your crumpled posture, your furrowed brows. With a murmur of your name, he comes around the desk and kneels in front of your seat, taking both your hands in his.
"I'm really planning a surprise for you," you insist. "In the human world. That's why I made sure to clear your schedule."
"I realize that now," he says, pressing his lips to your fingers. "I'm sorry."
"I'm not—I'm not conspiring or anything."
"I know, love. I apologize for the baseless accusation."
"If you don't want to come with me, that's a different matter, but you can just say no. I'd be less upset if you—"
"No, I was merely quick to assume the worst." He squeezes your hands for the briefest moment. "I'm sorry, dear. It's just that, in my experience, surprises rarely end well. I appreciate the reprieve from work."
A beat of silence passes before you take a deep breath and withdraw from his hold. He returns to his seat.
"So where are we heading?"
"Telling you would defeat the purpose of it being a surprise, Lucifer," you say with a roll of your eyes. "Just make sure to pack something...casual by your standards."
"Oh?" He raises an eyebrow. "What's considered casual by your standards, then?"
"A raggedy t-shirt and sweatpants."
.
.
Lucifer does not show up in a raggedy t-shirt and sweatpants, and neither do you, to his obvious relief. He shows up, as you pretty much expected, in a turtleneck sweater and pinstripe pants, whose matching blazer you confiscated. For reasons, you told him vaguely, also removing his various hanging jewelry. Telling him that it was a safety violation would've given it away.
Once you usher him into the waiting taxi, you ask the driver to keep the destination a secret, but it's hard to hide the truth for long as you make your way to the edge of the city where an impressive brick building sits, whirring with the all the machines inside.
"Is that..." He nearly presses his face against the window. "is that an industrial laundry facility?"
His head whips to you when you don't say anything. Your answering smile is enough, and you have to remind him to keep moving. The view from the outside is impressive, but the tour starts at the door, not in the parking lot. You plant your hands on his back and push him along.
"Come on," you say. "If we don't finish this tour in time, we'll be late for our appointment at the local distillery."
The sound that escapes him is indescribable, but from the way he takes your hand and pulls you forward, it's safe to say that he's happy about this trip.

hi 👀
i havent decided yet what culture i want the genie dca to come from but if you would like to infodump about arabian or persian clothing (both royal and commoner wear) i am all ears
hmmmm
Okay, I don't really know too much abt clothing (unfortunately not much of a historical expert), but here's what I can tell you:
as said before, clothing typically depends on the region and the culture/ religon of the place, as well as the place in society
So, as said before, higher class is gonna wear brighter colors (ex: purples, greens, blues, bright yellows) with complex designs, while commoners wear duller colors (browns, creams, whites, some dull greens or yellows, a few blues) with more plain fabrics
I think I mentioned fabric type earlier, but here it is again: silks and satin were reserved for the more wealthy, while commoners typically just stuck to cotton
Richer people wore LOTS of jewelry. Gold chains with patterns of stones, large necklaces with jewels hanging off of them, bracelets that jingle with every movement...style depends on the place. A lot of places like to incorporate eyes into jewelry and decor, so that's a place to start. Simple bead bracelets can have engravings with arabic text. Beads can be huge or small and simple. Kohl ( an eyeliner) is pretty popular, as is henna in a a lot of places. Henna art can usually be done on the hands and arms.
If you're trying to find a country to base it in, I'd recommend doing your own additional research in case. I'd suggest going with somewhere further out from the heart of the Middle East. So think more northwest: Turkey or Syria or maybe Iran (Persia in the olden days), as opposed to Saudi Arabia or Iraq or Egypt. Based on your genie design, I'd assume it'd probably be largely influenced by Indian culture, though you'd have to ask someone more knowledgeable about that. So maybe around or closer to those regions?
If you're wondering about hijabs and veils, not everyone necessarily wore a hijab, though it really depends on the era. If you're asking for religious sides, Islam claims that hijabs were a must from the beginning. History (which I've found some Islamic scholars do in fact agree with on this) says that hijab was actually later introduced as a cultural thing, and started out more as, again, an upper class thing. Women of high standing wore thin veils of silk and satin. This was around 62o-630 CE, I'd say, though, again, I'm not too sure.
Main language would probably be Arabic, although really it was a mix. To be on the safer side, you should probably just stick to English, cuz even among Arabs we struggle to figure out what different people are saying. The language depends on the region and dialect (Ex: people from Egypt and Lebanon are said to be softer with their pronunciation of things, while Iraqis and Kuwaitis are a bit rougher with pronunciation). A single word can have multiple meanings depending on the place you're at, and some dialects have words that technically don't even exist. (Ex: Iraqis refer to tissues as specifically 'Kleenex' because that's the most well known company. Then again, this could just be among my extended relatives, so take this with a grain of salt.)
In terms of clothing styles and choices:
For women, it's gonna be a biiit more modest in some regions as opposed to others. Some places refuse to show a singular inch of skin, while others are pretty lenient. It again, really depends on where you're at. If you're not exactly sure where you wanna place it and want to do what the movie did and make up a place, I'd suggest covering up most stuff, arms, legs, shoulders, etc. Pants and dresses are pretty much interchangeable.
For men...I wouldn't really know, actually. Modern day they don't really care and tend to just wear the typical t-shirts and jeans in some parts, or something a bit more traditional. I guess it was pretty long robe, if you want to think of it like that? They covered up, too, though for a different reason (prob the heat).
If you want to add in a Jasmine, I could give you a small bit of info on rights of the time. Women could hold positions in financing (it is pretty well known that the first wife of Muhammad [Islamic prophet] was a businesswoman and a merchant herself), as well as own and sell property. I'm not too sure if they could hold high positions in government in some places, though in others there were females who did go into battle or become sultanas. In history it is known that many people were ashamed to have daughters and sometimes buried them alive, though this supposedly changed after Islam was spread (whether or not this is true I'm not sure). Slaves were still a thing and continued to be a thing, although during the khalifa it was said that you couldn't enslave a Muslim. Most people don't believe this to be true and say that slavery was completely wiped out after the introduction of Islam, so I'd just be careful about this topic because it kinda depends on who you ask.
In terms of clothing patterns, vines and flowers were pretty popular, as well as this one textile thing I dunno how to describe...if you've seen Persian rugs than it looks similar to those. It's very geometric based, too. Here's a picture to get the idea tho:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
....Okay just look up Persian rug and you'll get the idea, I dunno how else to explain it.
Sorry if this wasn't very helpful, I kinda had to rush it cuz I have a lot of stuff to catch up on. Hope this did something, tho!

[ad_1] It’s warm. It’s sunny. Now’s the time to free your midriff, let your belly button breathe. That’s where crop tops come in.Crop tops have been a Thing for decades. In the 50s, they came paired with high-waisted shorts, skirts and pants. In the 60s, Summer of Love participants wore groovy, colorful halters. When it came to the 70s, Elie Tahari made a name for himself buying and reselling tube tops. In the 80s came the Flashdance-fueled aerobics craze and Madonna’s mesh Lucky Star look. In the 90s, there were tiny-strapped, navel-grazing tanks. And in the early 2000s — the veritable Golden Age of the Crop — everyone who was anyone had a shrunken shirt for every day of the week. Think Christina Aguilera in her teal-fringed Genie in a Bottle days, Scary Spice and her silky halters, Cameron Diaz circa The Sweetest Thing, TLC and their teeny graphic tube tops. The abridged pieces made their most recent comeback several years ago. And defying all odds, they’ve managed to stick around. Of course, in order to hold our often jarringly short trend attention span, they’ve become more and more exaggerated over time. Nowadays, it’s perfectly suitable to leave your house wearing a bra as a blouse. Not that we’re complaining. We’ve waited all winter to flaunt our midsections in public and at home and now is our collective time to shine. Scroll down to shop 30 of our favorite tiny tops for summer. Feeling more modest? Wear them with high-waisted pants and show off just a sliver of skin around your ribs. Ready to make a statement? Break out the super-low-rise bell-bottom jeans. With crop tops, there are only two rules: (1) Never fret about tummy rolls, food babies or lack of abs and (2) Don’t ever wear one to work. wondering, what would the characters usually wear in real life?
Hi Anon! Thank you for this ask and I’m so sorry it’s taken ages for me to reply! I love this question so much I’m going to turn this into a series of moodboards to provide a better look into their wardrobes, but for now here’s a little insight into each of them…
Tumblr media
Lily - Lily has a perfectly put together style. It’s a little bit preppy, and a lot designer. You’ll struggle to find anything in her wardrobe that isn’t black, although she has a few deep red pieces. She is a demon, after all. In general, skirts, chunky boots and oversized jumpers. She feels no heat because nowhere is as hot as home, and so she’ll wear what she wants when she wants, not because the season dictates it.
Rota - Oh Rota. Our poor Valkyrie who is definitely not reflecting her usual style in the dome after the producers convinced her that armour wasn’t going to be appropriate. The producers did the viewers a disservice tbh because there is no chance that she wouldn’t look stunning in her full armour. Outside of the dome Rota has one outfit only - brown leather bodice and trousers, metal chest plate (with some shoulder plates to die for) and a long red cape. I haven’t been able to find a picture of what’s in my head so I’d love to commission a design one day.
Eli - Our Elf boy’s style is as eclectic as him. In general he’s happy in loose cotton clothing. It’s what he grew up wearing and it feels comfort for him. But he’s not afraid to mix it up and has some truly gorgeous clothes for when he’s living life outside of the forest, much to his mother’s disapproval. He has a love for colourful prints themed around nature - so floral jackets, shirts with butterflies, shorts with a fruit print are all part of his style. Oh - and jewellery- the boy loves jewellery.
Catarina - Cat has curves and is proud of them. The model in the pic above isn’t really representative of Cat…but the dress is 100% her. Her wardrobe contains long flowing skirts and dresses, chunky boots, off the shoulder jumpers, celestial prints. Cat wears a lot of black, but isn’t afraid of colour. Red and purple are two of her favourites. Although long and flowing might be her day to day style, Cat isn’t afraid to wear tighter fitting clothes and has a couple of little black dresses that have been known to be more powerful than a love spell…
Abe - Our dark academia boy who has no concept what dark academia is. His wardrobe is pretty much shades of brown. Tweed jackets, some corduroy, plain and checked shirts…always finished with some smart shoes that look like they are 1940s replicas. Abe’s style isn’t something he’s given any thought to, it just happened naturally for him. He dresses in neutral colours in order to fade into the background, completely oblivious to the fact that his style, coupled with his looks, means that he has an entire fan club back in Berlin, and there’s a reason why his reading club back home is so well attended.
Alex - Alex doesn’t give fashion much thought. He’s a classic denim boy. Jeans and a t-shirt or jumper, and he’s comfortable. He isn’t one for designer fashion. He’s lost too many items of clothing after changing into a wolf, and so dressing on a budget is a priority. He does have a vintage 1980’s denim jacket which he loves, and a David Bowie t-shirt which he treasures. So far his love of the 80s hasn’t stretched to growing a mullet, but there’s always time for that!
Zein - Zein’s style is quite minimalistic. They actively fight against the stereotype of genie’s wearing lots of gold and sheer fabrics, although they are usually found wearing a pair of harem pants (they’re comfy, ok?), and a vest top/ t-shirt.  Zein wears a lot of grey and black, but also loves jewel tones so will often mix in some purple and blue. Shoes? Nah...you’ll normally find Zein bare footed, but they’ll wear some sandals if they really have to.
Cerri - Cerri doesn’t have much time for fashion - it isn’t something respected by the pack, and so it isn’t something on her priority list. That doesn’t stop her looking amazing in everything she wears. She has a brown leather jacket she wears at every opportunity, and it’s normally paired with a white top, blue or black jeans and some Dr Martens. Simple, classic, effortless.
Aayush - In or out of the bubble, Aayush is all about the suit. He’s been around for long enough to see fashions come and go, and he doesn’t buy into trends any more. He has a large collection of perfectly tailored suits and in his day to day life they’re what he wears for work and pleasure. However...he’s finding life in the dome and wandering around in shorts all day a little bit freeing, so who knows...Buried Love could be changing him, in more ways than one.
Fleur - Fleur describes her style is ‘cottagecore, but add some spice’. She loves pastel colours, and her wardrobe is a thing of beauty. True to her name, she loves a floral print, and don’t even get her started with how much she needed ‘that’ strawberry dress. But Fleur likes to mix her looks up. Huge chunky sneakers with floaty floral dresses is her signature look. She also has a sunglasses addiction...80 pairs and counting, and loves the edge they can give an outfit.
