so for years, I've talked up the high points of Dragon's Dogma. sure, there's the music, the emphasis on naturalistic monster design, the flashy combat, all of that. but one point that holds firm in my memories is how big Gransys feels for how small it actually is
Dragon's Dogma is a game that's very concerned about how you get place to place. nights are dark and full of danger, lanterns need oil and can be doused with water, and the build of your character affects everything from your ability to scale monsters to the speed at which you walk. there is an actual table for how your character's weight affects your ability to travel, and customisation affects that as well
fast travel isn't free, either. first, you have to place down a portcrystal, of which you have a limited quantity (the limit is increased upon reaching NG+). following this, fast travel requires a supply of ferrystones, items which were decidedly expensive in the original game with affordability increasing as you progressed
the issue is, when I introduce friends to the game and talk to them afterwards, I notice a consistent theme: when I bring up how the game is effectively an expedition simulator designed to put you in uncomfortable situations in a world that feels larger than it is, they bring up that they didn't notice this. Gransys feels very small.
let's talk about the devil.
Tumblr media
to understand the original context of the Eternal Ferrystone, you have to know how it made its way into the game
when Dragon's Dogma released, it was a bit of an unwieldy mess of a game that received several notable microtransaction items, intended to be bought piecemeal, as was trendy at the time
eventually, it came time for a larger DLC to be released. rather than electing to release it as an expansion pack, Capcom elected to refresh the game with a comprehensive rebalancing and include all previous DLC with it. in addition to this, it was never released as an expansion, but as a full-blown rerelease, a la a remastering
seemingly realising that anyone who paid for DLC would go ballistic over this (they did), Capcom tried to think of an incredibly powerful consolation prize for players who might have beaten the game several times over at that point. something to make the game much faster on NG+ playthroughs (Dragon's Dogma has lots of NG+ tiers) so that they might be able to justify purchasing it again to experience an admittedly very good dungeon
unlimited fast travel.
transferring a save from the original game to Dark Arisen gave players access to the Eternal Ferrystone, an item which significantly expedites playthroughs by allowing you to skip the hike entirely. this wasn't a bad addition at all, on account of the fact that anyone who bought the game twice was probably already checked out of the exploration aspect of things
come the release for PS4, PC, Switch, and Xbox One, the Eternal Ferrystone appeared in every inventory
in a game where surviving the journey back from hunting an enormous monster, often missing a fallen party member or two, was an intended part of the earlygame experience? it suddenly became viable to skip it entirely
Gransys, a winding plateau of hills, cliffs, and forests? it irreversibly felt its size, devoid of the earlygame wonder of barely surviving the journey back home only to see the lights of Gran Soren (the sole blot of permanent civilisation, besides a shanty village, in a world of gryphons, dragons, and chimeras) cresting the horizon
this isn't to say that the world was always beautiful or deliberate. a lot of the forests look the same, after all. it is to say that Dragon's Dogma always encouraged D&D style supply planning, and not in the modern sense. just as important as meat were knives to scrape it with, jars to preserve food in, and oil for your lantern. in a pinch, a rock would work to press oil from rotten meat into something you could use to hang onto a flying monster for just a little bit longer
Dragon's Dogma was an intentionally tedious and frustrating game, and in adapting itself to a modern audience, it removed this aspect. thematically tedious games have become a rarity in the AAA space, largely because inconvenience is now viewed solely as a marketing tool. put another way, inconvenience is something bad you do to players to make them spend money
there's no reason a new player could see not to use an infinite source of free fast travel. when they try not to, they are met with tedium and frustration, and so they come to understand that the game is encouraging them to use the stone. designed this way, it communicates intentionality
which is all a rambling way to say that it's a shame Dragon's Dogma isn't the same game anymore. not in the way that a remaster ceases to convey the tone of the original, but in the way that a set of map markers for quests would radically change the way players interact with the quest journal in Morrowind
is it for the better? is it not better to have a Gransys which best highlights moments of the Devil May Cry team's action combat with minimal padding between it? who knows
all that's for certain is that the considerations of a two way expedition have been reduced to one, and with that, the world has been cut in half.

Fantasy Thundershield Concept - Steve's a water spirit of a secluded spring deep in the forest. Humans almost never wander far enough into the forest to find his domain, so he's never had much interaction with them, or even seen them up close.
One day, a travelling knight named Thor passes through the area, weary from his long journey. Upon seeing the spring, he decides he can afford a little time to bathe and relax, stripping off before he slips into the water with a sigh of relief. With the coolness of the water easing the aches in his muscles, it doesn't take long for him to drift off to sleep seated on a shallow rock shelf at the pool's edge.
Little does he know Steve's been watching him with fascination this whole time, unable to tear his eyes away from this handsome stranger. Once Thor's asleep, he creeps closer through the water to get a better look, running his hands over Thor's body and hard muscles in curiosity. Thor's cock takes up a lot of Steve's attention, especially as it begins to lengthen and harden in his hands.
Meanwhile, Thor thinks he's been having a very pleasant dream, moaning and growling softly in his sleep under Steve's ministrations. Until he awakens to find this lithe, beautiful spirit straddling his hips and staring at him with those beautiful blue eyes, his bare ass pressed right up against Thor's erection. Lost in each other's eyes, it seems only natural that Thor shift his hips ever so slightly. Just at the right angle to slowly push his cock up into his companion's ass, their moans filling the still air as Thor takes Steve in his arms properly and draws him out into the deeper waters to continue their union.
Ooo this is such a delicious idea and it's so different from lots of fantasy AUs!
Thor is probably a knight or prince out on a quest to slay a monster or something. It's as much for glory as it is to help people who are being threatened by it. Instead of finding monster, though, he gets hopelessly lost in the forest while searching for it.
The spring is fueled by a nearby volcano so that it's always pleasantly warm, even in the dead of winter. It also contains several minerals that are good for the human skin. Additionally, since it has the blessing of a water spirit, the water contains magical properties that heal the wounds of those who drink or bathe in the waters, as long as they pose no threat to the spring or the environment around it.
Thor, being a human, has no clue about this, of course. All he knows is that the troll that was threatening people who live at the foot of the mountain is nowhere to be found. He's yet to find the cave where the mountain troll is supposed to dwell. Still, it’s been two days and nights of travel. Thor’s beginning to believe that the troll has either moved on or that the villagers were simply mistaken about what happened to their missing friends.
In the failing light of the third day, Thor happens upon the hidden spring. Steam is rising gently from the water and Thor sees an opportunity to relieve his sore muscles. It would even be a good place to rest for the night if he could manage to find some food in the traps he’d set up earlier.
He quietly strips out of his clothing and armor and tests the water gingerly with his foot. It’s pleasantly hot, but not so hot that it hurt to touch it. He sighs luxuriantly as he lets himself sink into the water. He sits on one of the rocks in the pool that’s the perfect height for him. It lets him lounge in the pool, the water rising up to his shoulders.
Unbeknownst to Thor, Steve was idling his day away in the spring. It comes from an underground river and he’s spent his whole life, however long it’s been, exploring it and the surrounding mountain. The spring is his home and he prefers to keep it hidden, especially from humans.
This one, however, found it on accident. Steve is almost insulted that someone has come into his home without so much as a “by your leave,” but the stranger’s beauty stills his tongue. the man is built like a mountain lion, all corded muscle and long limbs. The grime that washes away from his skin reveals its glowing tan and his hair is long and golden.
It doesn’t take long for the human to fall asleep in the healing waters. As soon as Steve is sure that he is, in fact, sleeping, he rises from the depths where he had been watching the stranger.
Steve’s not a complete recluse. He has met other spirits. The creature that the village at the foot of the mountain calls a troll is actually a spirit of a cluster of rocks at the top of the mountain. He wasn’t very bright, though. Probably why he said his name was “Brock,” because the name was similar to what he was. There were other spirits. Bucky, the spirit of the pine forest that covered the mountains here, was much more well traveled than Steve, and he said humans weren’t very interesting. They fought and quarreled and they cut down his precious trees.
Then there was Peggy, the spirit of the ice that covered the top of the mountains. She had a much more gracious view of humans. She said they were warm and kind, the food they made was delicious, and though they struggled to survive, they also found time to frolic and enjoy life.
Steve wasn’t sure what to think, but he’d never thought to venture too far from his spring or the river that ran through the mountains. If he followed it, he might run into humans eventually, but he preferred this spring. So this was the first time he’d ever seen one a human up close. What surprised him most was that neither Bucky nor Peggy had told him how attractive they were. As he neared the sleeping human, he began to touch him. He felt the strong muscles beneath his skin. He ran his hands over the rolling expanses, letting his fingers follow the mountains and valleys that formed on the man’s body.
Were they all like this? If so, perhaps there was some reason to seek the humans out on occasion like Peggy did.
Then, of course, Steve arrived at the human’s cock. it was the most fascinating thing about him, so far. At first, it had been soft. Impressive, but soft. The longer Steve spent feeling the man’s body, the longer and harder it became. This was another thing neither of his friends mentioned. He stared at it in fascination. It was true that his body looked like a human’s but he had never actually thought much about it.
He lets instinct take over. It always seemed to work in the past. Where the instinct came from, Steve couldn’t say, but he climbed into the man’s lap and lined up his cock to his hole. As he began to sink down on it, he moaned as the thick cock stretched him open. The sound caused the man’s eyes to open. They looked at each other for a while. Steve’s hands were braced on the man’s chest. A moment later, the human put his hands on Steve’s hips and began thrusting up. Steve moaned and Thor captured his mouth with his own in some kind of strange human ritual. It’s not unpleasant, but it is a bit strange.
Steve soon got the hang of this strange human ritual. Their tongues slid against each other as the human thrust up into him. It was the greatest pleasure that Steve had ever felt. The longer the human thrusts into him, the greater his pleasure grows. Steve can’t help but moan. His moans grow louder and louder. The human’s cock goes so deeply into Steve’s body that Steve can practically feel him in the depths of his very soul. He can’t get enough of it.
The human comes with a loud growl. Steve feels the hot liquid fill his ass. A moment later, Steve himself is pushed over the edge with pleasure and it bursts from him. It’s a feeling he’s never experienced before. The whole spring seems to resound with the waves of his pleasure as his entire being practically glows with it.
As soon as it’s done, he gasps and looks into the human’s eyes. He looks back into Steve’s with a warm smile.
“I must be dreaming,” the human says. “But in case I am not, my name is Thor.”
“You’re not dreaming,” Steve says. “My name is Steve.”
Thor pulls Steve into another one of those human mouth rituals. Steve is more than happy to allow it to happen. He has no idea how long the two of them bask in the pleasure they give each other. Spirits perceive time differently from humans, after all. All he knows is that when they finally stop to really rest, Thor’s armor is covered in rust and his clothes have been claimed by the earth. Thor doesn’t seem to care, though. He finds a nearby cave with a pool in it that’s connected to Steve’s river and makes his home there.
Down the mountain in human society, there are tales of a valiant knight who tragically ventured up the mountain in search of a troll. Some stories say it was a manticore or a chimera or a dragon, but all stories say that he never returned. The village packed up and left in search of a less spiritual mountain. Meanwhile, Thor and Steve live out their long years together. He meets Peggy and Bucky and other spirits as he travels the mountain range with his lover. What exactly happened to him to make it possible for him to live so long is unknown to him, but Steve and his friends take to calling him the spirit of the mountain. He never really considers returning to the world of humans. He prefers to spend his days and nights, years and decades and centuries, in the arms of the precious water spirit who captured his heart.

People blabbering of how an egoistical ice prince Megumi is...
Me like:
Tumblr media
If you’re saying it, at least tell me you’ve read the manga, so we can have a proper conversation (a.k.a. I can yell at you full force).
‘Cause if you haven’t, I seriously don’t recommend continuing. There are not major plot nor characters' spoilers down below, just new people/techniques being named and some minor events, but I reckon you deserve a heads up, even if it's not a dangerous one...
Are we talking about Fushiguro Megumi?
Tall-ish, pale as paper, green eyes (because yes, his eyes should be GREEN instead of blue) black hair that fucks with gravity more than a black hole, eyelashes for freaking days?
Second grade sorcerer, cursed technique Ten Shadow, domain expansion Chimera Shadow Garden? Member of the messed up Zen’in clan, son of Fushiguro Toji, the sorcerers’ slayer?
This guy:
- has dealt with so much shit as a kid (+Tsukimi still unresolved situation) that anyone else would be a mass murderer;
- asked Gojou to spare Yuji’s life, even if he had been knowing him for barely half a day;
- tries to be a sensible human being with Nobara grieving over Yuuji’s “death”;
- patiently deals with Yuji, Satoru and Nobara’s sheaningans on a regular basis;
- respects and repeatedly encourages Yuji;
- constantly supports all of his teammates; it’s not limited to Yuji and Nobara. Doesn’t matter who you are; part of the team = part of the pack;
- is so selfless he doesn’t value his own life if his death can lead to others being saved, sacrificing himself without hesitation;
- recognises his own limits (physical and technical) when he reaches them and has the humility to ask for goddamned help and guidance;
- hid Gojou’s stained shirt; which cold-hearted bastard would EVER agree to do something like this?
Tumblr media
- gossiped with Nobara over Yuji’s love life;
- doesn’t want to emotionally hurt Yuji more than he already is;
- considers his shikigami teammates as well. Great Karma, I hope best boi Nue doesn’t get destroyed; I almost cried when Megumi patted and reassured them;
- still hasn’t brag ONCE at the present moment, so after 127 chapters.
- (bonus) lets the guys PET his shikigamis...and uses bunnies as an escape resource (Yuji can’t help himself and steal one while running away. Nobody can blame him).
Specifically talking about the Shikigami.
Megumi goes around exorcizing them and can use up to 10, summoning them from the shadows.
He knows how curses work, so he knows they’re conglomerate of human negative emotions. That groups every kind, not only anger, rage, lust, violence, resent and hatred, but also despair, grief, loneliness, pain, suffering and longing. He knows each one of them. Very fucking well.
This is why he cares about his shikigami, because he understands that not all the negativity comes from a wrong place, that darker shades are part of what people are forced to go through while living, so he respects those feelings, and by proxy respects the curses they manifests into. A very irrational part of him might also consider his shikigamis as small parts or the original human being they originated from, so maybe he thinks that by having them by his side and calling them into action, he can somehow still keep the people alive, in some way. A person not totally forgotten. A fragment of a memory not completely lost to the darkness. Something not entirely dissipated into nothing.
Because being a sorcerer is not only despelling curses, is also keep going forward with that knowledge, being aware that you’ve been entrusted with something depper, stronger, more meaningful.
Sure, sometimes he loses his cookies...
Tumblr media
but there’s a difference between annoyance and full-on rage or be a cold-hearted bitch.
Compared to the rest of the crew, this man is a fucking saint. This boy has a freaking golden heart and must be aggressively cared for.
He is, indeed, the blessing his names defines him as.
God forbids, the day he’ll go batshtick crazy for real the World is gonna end.

Soulmates/mates thiam?
Hello friend! Here are some of our favorite soulmate fics!
Isn’t Something Missing by xTarmanderx (Mature | Complete | 86K) Tags: Human Theo, light smut, angst with a happy ending Summary: Liam knew something was missing from his life. Why did everyone else have the name of their soulmate and his was missing? A Peek Inside: “You. I just don’t know how I got so lucky,” he said honestly. Theo’s eyes softened and for a moment, Liam thought this might be it. Theo was going to lean in and kiss him, he could feel it in his bones. His eyes started to flutter shut as he leaned closer. Their lips were almost touching when headlights hit their faces, startling them apart.
I’ll Hate the Goodbye, by Skaboom (Teen | Complete | 5.9K) Tags: Human AU, Soulmate AU, TiMER Fusion AU Summary: In a world where you can get a device implanted on your wrist that will count down to the exact second you will meet your soulmate, a lot of the guessing is taken out of the love game. For Liam Dunbar, a devout believer in the Timers, however, it’s more complicated. He got his Timer when he was 14 years old, but 10 years later, it’s still blank, and he’s starting to feel desperate. When he meets a ruggedly handsome bartender who thinks the Timer’s are nothing more than a self-fulfilling prophecy, and refuses to ever get one, Liam finds his world, and his search for his soulmate, turned upside down. A Peek Inside: “I think you should get that damned thing removed. I’ve seen you in here, drinking yourself into a stupor over some other person not being your soulmate four times this year alone,” he said. “And every time you do it, you’re missing so much of your life. Think of the fun you could be having if you didn’t spend so much time worrying about who your soulmate is.”
Gone, by Thinking of Theo (mjsakurea) (Teen | Complete | 1.3K) Tags: Soulmate AU, Angst Summary: Soulmate AU where the last words you will ever hear your soulmate say are written on your wrist. No way to know who your soulmate is until they are gone. Liam has three words. Theo has one. A Peek Inside: It was only when Liam was a teenager that he learned the true darkness behind the words on his wrist. As a child, his parents and other adults had shielded him from the fact that those words were the last words a person’s soulmate would say to them. It was cruel, in Liam’s opinion.
you know you like it [but it drives you insane] by lameassthiam (Not Rated | Complete | 6.7K) Tags: Soulmate AU Summary: a soulmate AU consisting of Liam being super dense and Theo being a Fall Out Boy obsessed little shit A Peek Inside: In his god awful handwriting, Liam scrawled STOP LISTENING TO FALL OUT BOY BEFORE MY BRAIN EXPLODES BEFORE WE EVEN MEET across the expanse of his wrist. Liam was thankful that his soulmate didn’t have the same ability as he did, for he knew his soulmate’s response probably wouldn’t be too kind. His gratitude toward the universe dropped off a cliff when there was an abrupt change in the music and all he could hear was the alarmingly loud sounds of Ce Lo Green’s F**k You in his mind.
You Are Made of Something Holy by SophieTrancy  (Explicit | Complete | 67K)
Tags: AU Soulmates, Deafness, Fluff and angst Summary: Liam couldn't remember a time before the voice. His voice. His mate's voice. His parents had always told him stories of Soulmates, two people who had been promised to each other the very moment they were brought into this world. Soulmates can hear each other. But only when they curse. But Theo? Theo was not what Liam had expected. A Peek Inside: But there his mate was. Right in front of Theo, telling him all the words he had ever wanted to hear, the words that would’ve made the whole world go silent around him. There were the hands that would hold him, the lips that would kiss his, the body that would make love to his, the voice that would laugh at his jokes, the smile he’d fall to his knees for, the arms that would hold him at night. There was the heart that would love his.
Almost, by Captainmintyfresh (Not Rated | Complete | 1,9K) Tags: Soulmates, mention of Scallison Summary: Every day you get one sentence your soulmate said that day on your wrist A Peek Inside: Ten years, too many sentences for him to remember but enough that it left his stomach twisting uncomfortably whenever he thought about it. Some days there were words that make Liam's eyes widened and force a wristband over the fresh words so people won't see the words scrawled there.
----& its companion piece
I don’t care, by Captainmintyfresh (Not Rated | Complete | 1,7K) Tags: Soulmate AU Summary: The companion piece to 'Almost' A Peek Inside: For Theo it was a life line, it was the knowledge that if he was lucky there was someone out there for him. There was someone that he would always come first too. To someone he'd be the prize not a participation medal
My world comes alive with you | Thiam Week 2017 Day 5 by Former_Princess (Teen | Complete | 4.6K) Tags: Soulmates Summary: Nobody said you need to fall in love with your soulmate Thiam Week Day 5: Soulmate AU A Peek Inside: Liam looked down at his phone again and just started a game when he heard the clatter of a skateboard hitting the ground and a pained groan. Turning his head and looking up, Liam saw Theo on the ground and his skateboard a bit further away. The older clutched his left arm and glared at his board. Liam just to walk over and check if he had broken anything. Doctor’s son and such, you know?
Spoiler Alert by 2ILoveFanFiction3 (Not Rated | Complete | 1.6K) Tags: Soulmates Summary: Nobody hated their soulmates first words. Nobody but Liam Dunbar. He was going to find his soulmate and give him a piece of his mind. But what if his soulmate was so freaking attractive that he lost his own mind? A Peek Inside: He has sported a permanent scowl for weeks and his temper always seemed to be simmering, waiting to break free. It only got worse as he proceeded to read the next book and then the next.
Technicolour Beat by AngelOnFire (Katherine3) (Teen | WIP |10K) Tags: Soulmates Summary: Liam is a good, well-behaved Christian boy. Theo is a drug dealer living in his car. And it just so happens that they're soulmates. Every person has the initials of their soulmate written on their wrist in their soulmate's handwriting. The mark is black, but becomes colourful the moment you touch your soulmate. The colour of the mark changes depending on your soulmate's mood. A Peek Inside: He tapped at his wrist as he repeated all the colors in his head: Red was for anger, blue was for sadness, orange meant happiness, purple meant scared, pink was worried. Even bored had a color, it was grey. But for now his mark was just black.
Red by ExtraSteps, AJP_37 (Mature | WIP | 141K) Tags: Character death, graphic depictions of violence, slow burn Summary: Theo returns from hell but has lost all of his powers, including his chimera status, making him completely human. He also has a red string of fate wrapped around his left wrist, connecting him to Liam, the one who brought him back. When Malia attacks him, she nearly kills him, and Liam and Lydia step in, all but forcing Scott to bite him and make him a werewolf. Making Theo pack, and the growing connection between him and Liam, changes the whole outcome of season 6. A Peek Inside: Hell was hungry, and with each passing moment, Theo felt parts of himself slipping away. Josh’s electricity no longer hummed and sizzled along his skin, absorbed into the earth and drawn away. The poison he had stolen from Tracy had soaked into the ground aeons ago. Even the strength and hyper-awareness of his chimera was dulling more and more, until all that was left him was desperation and the heart thudding slowly in his chest. And Tara was determined not to let him keep it.

Well now I'm curious. Are there any crocodile shifters in this story? Is that the Alpha Pack? And does that make Jennifer a sea witch? I'm invested and I want to know more!
Also, random questions about your Beacon Bay story: is this on an island or a peninsula or something? Is the Nemeton a lighthouse or something similar, really leaning into that whole beacon metaphor? Is there a star-crossed lovers thing going on here at all (*cough*scanny*cough*)?
Sadly, no crocodile shifters in the actual story, though it was more written as a series of shorter episodic stories that I bounced around between. And the crocodile shifters are just sitting there ripe for the picking, its just I didn’t have need of any in the story and/or characters they matched up well with. The Alpha Pack isn’t really a thing here, mostly because I was like “I am Deucalion, the Demon Dolphin” doesn’t really have quite the right ring to it and also he’s just honestly not my favorite villain, he’s too ridiculous. Its like calm down dude, who do you think you are, Death, the Destroyer of Worlds? Oh wait. Awkward.
But now that I think about it, I hardly ever got the urge to use Deucalion as an antagonist? Just running through my WIP files real quick, and off the top of my head, my villain breakdown in TW fics was:
Lightning Crashes: the nogitsune, Jennifer, Kali and Theo
Where Wild Things Are: Peter, Matt and Gerard
Beacon Bay: Corrine, Peter and Theo
Loki’s Get:
Ouroboros Dreaming (Jackson’s Story): Peter’s ghost, metaphorically
Fenris Waking (Scott’s Story): Peter’s ghost, less metaphorically
Hel Rising (Lydia’s Story): Peter’s ghost, least metaphorically. Also, Hell. But mostly just the suburbs of it.
Born to Run: Jennifer. (That random The Most Dangerous Game rip-off with Scott and Jackson. Making the bad guys hunters was like, eh, so I went with necromancy instead).
The Forest or the Trees: the Nemeton. Like, the tree itself. Also, demon fruit. Look, its that AU where Scott’s a druid and Danny’s a werewolf, the tree wants to kill Scott, its a whole thing.
So, My Step-Brother’s Probably A Werewolf: The deadpool. Basically a S4 AU where Dr. Geyer and Melissa have a whirlwind romance and Liam’s trying to figure out why the fuck his new step-brother is so weird.
Forgetting’s Just Another Way of Saying Fuck You: Theo and the Dread Doctors. This one was that one S5 AU I was writing where the Dread Doctors used their forgetting/mind-wipe powers to make everyone forget about Scott, except they ironically forgot about people outside the town, meaning Isaac, Jackson and assorted others still remembered him. Aka that expansive headcanon that was literally the exact same thing as Season 6′s ‘forgetting Stiles’ plot, only posted about a full year before S6 even started shooting BUT I DIGRESS. (I’m just saying, it was a pretty specific plot, only using the DD instead of the Ghost Riders, but whaaaaatever). LOL.
So the only times I’ve ever really used Deucalion beyond peripheral werewolf politics in Where Wild Things Are is in that one Scydia I was writing, Kingmaker, and also an unwieldy behemoth that somehow got to six chapters without a title, where like, when the Alpha Pack came to town in 3A they used their werewolf memory-sucking mojo to steal Scott’s memories and thus make him more susceptible to Deucalion’s recruitment pitch while everyone else was like nuh-uh, THEY’RE the bad guys.
(Oh and also he did show up in one part I wrote for this Leverage meets Ocean’s Eleven mash-up, with a cast of Scott and the Chimeras. Remember how way back before Eichen House was introduced, Chris made an allusion to there being a werewolf jail they could use to deal with werewolves.....so like, imagine if Chris had caught Scott in S1 but couldn’t justify killing him and then enter werewolf jail and Scott being like mmm, yeah, this isn’t working for me, I’m gonna jailbreak, who wants to come, and then he and random other characters from throughout the series just go around robbing the various douchebags of the series in ways that were mostly just an excuse for me to ‘practice writing action scenes and also heists and also I was bored.’ Also, there’s a distinct presence of multiple unnecessary car chases as apparently most of the times I added to this file came smack dab in the middle of my Fast and the Furious phase. I regret nothing. Also, everything.)
Anyway, as for Beacon Bay, no, Jennifer isn’t a sea witch in it mostly cuz she isn’t in it, as I’d already used her in a few other things and I wanted to give Corrine a whirl as the prime bad guy. So she’s like, an assassin witch for hire. Also, three thousand years old, and as mentioned, like....she’s Circe.
Malia: Ugh, shut up, mom, nobody cares that you’re famous.
Mason (raises hand): I mean, I care, a little bit.
Liam (not helpfully): He asked her for her autograph.
Malia (to Scott): You see? This is why people should have to be over four feet tall to sit at the big kids’ table.
Brett (also not helpfully, but then, he isn’t trying to help, he doesn’t do that): To be fair, Liam’s the only actual Smurf present. Mason’s just Smurf-adjacent.
Mason: *beams*
Liam (staring at him in betrayal): How was that even a compliment? Why are you feeling complimented by that?
Mason: LET. ME. HAVE. THIS.
Anyway Part Two: the Anywayer.....I did not actually ever have any plans to make the Beacon part of Beacon Bay a literal lighthouse, as the town was less a point of interest for other supernatural beings because of Nemeton-type shenanigans, and more just purely because Peter’s a magical artifact oriented klepto who hooked up with Circe and then stole all her shit when sneaking out in the middle of the night and eighteen years later she’s still pissed and Peter’s just not home at the moment. So she’s like, “eh, I guess I could settle for just wiping this entire town off the map in the meanwhile. I needed a new hobby anyway.”
Anywayest, the conclusion: And yes of course it was Scanny. When, where faced with the possibility of Scanny, do I simply...not do the Scanny? Its like you don’t even know me right now.

2/2
Seto peered down at theblack marble headstone, squinting to read the epitaph.
“The most gifted and selfless soul to grace this land with his presence…”He snorted, “You were just a blundering fool who threw his life away to save afew soldiers from a pack of angry Aeternae.”
The cool bluemoonlight cast a silvery shroud on the headstone and the bouquet of whiteflowers lying at its base. The flowers were slightly withered, seeminglyexhausted from the elements.
Seto swept a hand overthe flowers. They burst into bright blue flames, quickly burning away.
He then took off thenecklace he was wearing, holding it over the dancing flame. The dragon-shapedpendant instantly caught alight, glowing brighter and brighter as if it was stealingaway the moonlight itself. There was a low rumble as the earth around thegravestone trembled and cracked. A circle of blue flames erupted from thecrevices, twisting and morphing into the form of a spectral dragon spreadingits wings over the magician’s back.
He exhaled. “Lead theway.”
The dragon answeredwith a sharp cry, diving head first into the mound. The whole graveyard beyondthe circle of flames crumbled and disappeared, quickly engulfed by a thickexpanse of purple-red miasma, leaving only a small island of earth where themagician stood, the gravestone standing at one end like the hull of a smallboat. The deafening roar of water thundered all around them. Skeletal forms canbe seen rising from the depths of the miasma and approaching the “boat”,clawing and beating at an invisible barrier as they screeched in agony, scorched by the purifying flames.
Seto closed his eyes, shuttingthe relentless noises out of his ears. Then a voice sounded from the back ofhis head, dark and hollow as if it was coming from deep below the waters.
“You are demanding passage for a wanderingsoul. Where is your fare?”
The rasp of an elderlyman sounded hauntingly like the old keeper of the graveyard, but Seto knew hewas speaking to a different person.
“I have it here. Takeit.”
He braced himself assplitting pain dug through his skull. He held his stance through sheer force ofwill, only letting out a grunt as he pressed a hand over the now hollow socketof his right eye.
“Ah… but you wish to bring this soul back withyou to the realm of the living. I charge more for that.”
“Fish-reeking oldgeezer,” The magician muttered, cursing as the reverberating voice cutpainfully through his throbbing head. “Fine. Take what you will.”
He cried out as ablunt force carved through his insides, bringing him to his knees. Good… I am still conscious, He thought, clenching his teeth and tasting blood. Theorgans he took were probably dispensable.
He lifted his head asthe black gravestone crumbled, the rubble rising in a dark torrent that suckedin the earth from all around it. It gradually solidified into a human form.
“Seto…”
Blood was blurring thevision in his remaining eye, but it took no more than one look to recognise theslight frame of his rival.
He was succeeding –but there was still a little more to go. Earth and stone serve as an excellentmedium to tether a soul whose body had been buried for over six moons, but somethingmore viscous was necessary to bind them together – the flesh and blood of akin. Fortunately, Seto had this close at hand.
He slumped heavily onthe ground, blood soaking his robes from the stump that was once his right arm.
The boat-island hadcrumbled away to a mere wedge of land, the blue flames now licking at themagician’s ankles. He fought to keep his focus on the work at hand, carefullystitching his flesh between his rival’s materialising ribs.
“Seto… is that you?”
Yes, you insufferable ignoramus, Seto huffed, his lips twisting up in a madsmirk. Who else do you think would bothercome fetch you from this blasted place?
His moment of glee wascut short by a sharp ache from his legs, almost drowned by the pain coming fromeverywhere else. He looked down and cursed at the sight – his left foot was bendingat an alarming angle, dark marks of clawed fingers burning into the leather ofhis boots. He glanced back at Atem, growling in rage when he saw more skeletalclaws reaching past the wall of flames to tug at the strips of particlesforming his body, unravelling them. Residents…I don’t have time for this! He grabbed a handful of dirt, tossing them inthe air. The clumps of earth turned into a flock of black wyverns, swooping downon the ghostly claws, tearing them away and tossing them back into the blueflames.
Now for you… Seto turned back to the lone claw still firmly latched to his boot. It was all your plan to distract me, wasn’tit? But It’ll take more than you rotting mongrels to get in my way… Hepressed his hand into his left thigh, hissing as he cut off his own circulationat the calves. Let’s see how much more youcan steal from me that I won’t take back! He sharpened his focus on hiscaptured limb, shredding the flesh into particles and yanking them out of the skeletalfingers.
“Seto – Seto, stop!”
He ignored his rival’s flustered plead, only coming to astartled halt when he felt warm hands closing over his wrist.
“I can take it from here.”
At his words, the circle of flames turned fromblue to dazzling gold, roaring to life as they pushed back the relentlessspirits. The roar of the flames grew loud enough to obscure the sound of theriver, and when it finally receded, the miasma had cleared, the wanderingspirits nowhere to be seen. They were back in the graveyard, full moon hanginghigh in the cloudless night.
Seto’s eyes were fixed on his bounty, althoughat this point it took all his strength to simply lift his head. And he didn’tknow whether he should be glad or incensed at what he saw.
Atem’s body was still incomplete, wrapped in a purple-red haze that was pullingup particles from the ground around him. Seto had only managed to put fleshback in his face and half his torso – having lost his remaining “material” whenhe was distracted by the residents of the Nyx – but Atem seemed to be workingaround it. Flowers and leaves were sprouting from between the ribs of hishollow ribcage, vines twisting out into the shape of limbs.
This was the gift ofthe greatest magician Domino had ever seen – in his freshly resurrected statehe should have been no more adept than a newborn babe, yet he was already ableto use magic that would envy the Kingdom’s best mages.
Moments later Atem wasflexing his newly formed limbs, clicking his tongue on the daisies stillsprouting out of cracks in his skin. “We’ll deal with this later… lets see whatwe can do abut your leg.”
Seto only had time toyelp in surprise as golden threads sprout from the ground and wrapped aroundhis mutilated leg. Before long he found himself staring down at his own foot, minus the boot, but the appendage was fully and miraculously healed, withouteven a scar left on the skin.
“Hmph,” Seto blinkedunintelligently, “You’re always doing such unnecessary – ” His retort was cutshort by a warm hand touching his face.
“So foolish of you…”
The entire right sideof Seto’s face was numbed from pain, but somehow he could still feel the warmthof Atem’s fingers slipping down his cheek.
“Don’t patronise me!”He reached up instinctively to swat away the offending hand, but halfwaythrough he changed his mind, instead settling for grabbing the warm wrist in a painfullyfirm hold.
Atem tipped his head.“Did you miss me?”
“Absolutely not.Things were going swimmingly while you were gone, I got the Council seat withoutyou there to offend every Elder alive, Doma had been running rampant with theirnew chimeras but we’re pushing them back to the East borders…” How could a handfrom someone who had been dead for six months be so sickeningly warm? “…I don’t miss you. I just need you back.”
Atem smiled. “Well,I’m back now.”
Seto grunted. A lostbattle from the start.
“…Welcome home.”

weekly gaming:
ubisoft has detailed its 2019 plans for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, debuting a fresh wave of seasonal multiplayer updates. And marking a fresh start for the hit tactical shooter, new playable Operators, locations, and more are on the way. While official details on Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 are limited, we've wrapped up everything known so far.
Year 4 is here Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass Prepare for Year 4.
The Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass grants full access the future content, with early access to Operators, exclusive in-game gear, and progression boosters.
Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 roadmap
At the Six Invitational 2019, Ubisoft formally unveiled its long-awaited Year 4 roadmap, detailing plans for its coming year of content. Paired with a reveal of Operation Burnt Horizon, the first season of the year, this establishes a strong foundation for what lies ahead.
As with past Rainbow Six Siege annual roadmaps, Year 4 is comprised of four distinct seasons, themed around new counterterrorism units (CTUs). It's a well-established template, bringing two playable Operators, one multiplayer map, and more under each seasonal refresh.
Year 4 also brings changes to seasonal content, distancing itself from traditional setup of themed expansions with an accompanying new multiplayer map. Focusing on map reworks, Ubisoft also plans to ship its most diverse roster yet, spanning seven regions.
Year 4 Season 1, better known as Operation Burnt Horizon, features Australian Operators Mozzie and Gridlock, alongside the new Outback map. Future seasons will focus on map reworks for existing locales, paired with two Operators from different CTUs.
Year 4 Season 1: Two Australia Operators, new Outback map Year 4 Season 2: U.S. Operator, Denmark Operator, Kafe map rework Year 4 Season 3: Mexico Operator, Peru Operator, Kanal rework Year 4 Season 4: India Operator, Kenya Operator, Theme Park rework Ubisoft has also outlined mid-season events between mainline content drops, serving as their "playground" to explore concepts outside core game modes. Dedicated teams for Operator balancing, player behavior, and playlists will also debut new changes throughout 2019.
Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Operators
Year 4's inaugural personalities launched with Operation Burnt Horizon, hailing from Australia's Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) unit. This duo of grease monkeys brought new traps to both sides, dubbed Gridlock and Mozzie. While Gridlock's Trax Stingers keep attackers on their toes, Mozzie's drone-hacking Pest Launcher proves equally challenging. Three future seasons will feature Operators spanning six CTUs, as detailed in its roadmap. It should bring considerable flexibility in the game's art direction and abilities throughout Year 4.
Ubisoft has also begun teasing its plans beyond Burnt Horizon, via an asset for its newly-revealed team leader, Harry "Six" Pandey. Its pinboard background stows teasers for upcoming content, including references to Danish and Peruvian Operators slated for later this year.
The image frames the mysterious Danish hero as an "expert in covert reconnaissance and stealth tactics" with the "ability to blend and adapt into an environment." And discussing ties to Vigil, the new "calculative" stealth Operator likely hails from Denmark's Jaeger Corps special forces. References to Peru can also be spotted, associated with the anti-trafficking efforts of the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series.
Year 4 also brings reworks of Operators, aiming to balance the existing roster via substantial overhauls. The leading candidate in 2019 is Operation Chimera's Lion, known as the highly-controversial attacker with his wall-hack-style ability. His rework shortens the Evil Eye's duration and ditches the full body outline for a red marker, aiming for an intel-driven utility.
Glaz also sees an overhaul, with his heat vision now only activated when stationary. Mute, Capitão and Dokkaebi see changes too, fine-tuning their abilities and how they interact with other gadgets.
Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 maps and reworks
Multiplayer maps also remain at Year 4's core, tied to each seasonal release in 2019. However, Ubisoft is scaling back investments in new settings, addressing the growing pool of fan favorites with critical flaws.
Outback is Year 4's only new map, exploring the Australian red desert through a two-story service station. The L-shaped construct splits into three distinct zones, each boasting unique gameplay. The open garage hosts vertical encounters with long sightlines, while the motel and restaurant foster tight angles and close quarters combat.
Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 also packs three full map reworks, reviving existing in-game locations with a fresh coat of paint. Like 2018's Hereford Base rework, map layouts are refreshed to improve overall flow, while also offering a new palette. Kafe, Kanal, and Theme Park will debut in their respective seasons, tweaking room layouts, moving objectives, and more.
Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass
With Year 4 comes the Year 4 Pass, offering paid year-long bonuses for Rainbow Six Siege players. The game's premium membership is now live for the coming year, with exclusive rewards for early adopters.
The Year 4 Pass retains the seven-day early access to eight new Operators, alongside 600 R6 Credits, the game's premium currency. Various title-wide bonuses also return, include 10 percent in-game store discount, 5 percent Renown XP boost, and 0.3 percent Alpha Pack advantage.
Those who purchase the Rainbow Six Siege Year 4 Pass also recieve the "Lava Six" charm with its fiery glowing finish. And for purchases before March 4, 2019, the "Volcano" universal weapon skin packed an equally hot touch.
Rainbow Six Siege's Year 4 Pass is now available for purchase on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, via Amazon, priced at $30

A Log Horizon/ Star Wars Fanfic request
Something that came to me after seeing the ending of Star Wars Rebels that I don’t think I could do justice.  What if the Chimera and/or the rest of Thrawn’s fleet crashed into the Log Horizon Earth on the Island Nations of Yamato?  And what if Shiro is a huge Thrawn fan?
The tension would be incredible.  On the one hand, Shiro knows that Thrawn is a huge potential threat and and so he needs to balance Thrawn’s chessmasterness with his own.  On the other, Shiro is internally geeking out that an all time favorite character of his, who inspired his tactical style and he made sure to transcribe the books about into Elder Tales for times he can do some fun reading, is there in the flesh.
Then there would the discussion about how they would fit into Elder Tales.  I would guess they would function like People of the Land and would need to subclass into Adventurer in order to have Adventurer benefits while their main class would either be what they mainly are (Ezra being a jedi while Thrawn is a tactician), be what class is closest to what they are (Ezra the Druid/Summoner? and Thrawn the Samurai?), or they choose what class as they wake up from the class.  Would/Should Shiro offer them the chance to subclass into Adventurers even if they don’t plan on staying long?
Also have someone ponder that the Chimera is a sign that Space Exploration is coming out as an expansion pack.

Could you pls write a fanfic in which Theo goes to Liam injured in his wolf form and Liam makes him shift back and takes care of him??
I have zero idea how long this has been sitting in my inbox, so I apologize for the lateness. Anyway, hope this close to what you wanted.
Sorry for any grammatical or spelling mistakes, I tried to do this quickly.
———————————————-
There’s a whining sound, high pitched and pained, coming from just below Liam’s bedroom window. He tries to ignore it at first, assumes it’s just a stray dog, but the whining doesn’t stop and the animal doesn’t go away.
Liam groans into his pillow, he can not deal with this right now. He has a game tomorrow and if he fucks up because he’s too sleep deprived to play then he’s never going to hear the end of it from his coach or his team mates.
Liam throws his blankets to the floor and angrily rolls out of bed. He stalks over to the window, flings it open with enough force that he momentarily panics about damaging the house. He pats at the window in an apology and sticks his head out, hoping all the while that the window doesn’t try to enact revenge by slamming closed and taking his head off.
There, just below him, curled up into a ball, is a large black wolf. The furry beast whimpers in pain, head lifting with difficulty to stare up at him, eyes flashing gold. Liam catches the scent of it on the wind, Theo and pain and blood.
“T-Theo?”
The wolf gives a pitiful yip in reply.
“What the fuck,” Liam whispers, staring down at the wolf in surprise.
The chimera’s been missing for days. He’d just up and vanished after a pack meeting the week before. Liam hadn’t been worried per se, because the chimera was prone to that sort of behavior; disappearing for days or weeks on end and then just reemerging like he was never gone. So, no, Liam hadn’t been worried, just curious about the other boy’s whereabouts.
Liam quickly shuts and locks his window before darting out of his room and down the stairs to the front door. He moves as quickly and quietly as he can, so as not to wake his sleeping parents.
Theo is waiting for him on the front porch, one injured paw raised up from the ground dripping blood all over the welcome mat. Liam doesn’t even hesitate to hoist the wolf up into his arms and carry him up the stairs. He ignores the disgruntled huffs of dog breath against his neck.
“Shh,” Liam shushes him. “Both of my parents are home.”
He nudges his bedroom door open and leans carefully against it until it closes once he’s on the other side. He sets Theo down as gently as he can, rushes to the bathroom to grab towels and the medical kit.
“Theo,” He calls out quietly to the wolf, dropping to his knees on the carpet beside him. “Theo, I need you to change back.”
The wolf only whines, nose snuffling at the carpet.
“Come on you giant baby, change back so I can see what’s wrong.”
Liam won’t admit it out loud, but he’s worried. There’s a lot of blood coating his arms and shirt from when he carried Theo. Liam can’t see any wounds, or the extent of the damage, through Theo’s thick coat of black fur and he seriously doubts the chimera would be very forgiving if Liam took a razor to his pretty coat.
He leans in close, catches the wolfs burning eyes and says; “Come on Theo, please change back.”
The wolf whines, long and low, turns his head away leaving a smear of blood across Liam’s carpet. A minute passes, two, and then there’s the sharp cracking of bones. Liam shuffles back quickly when he realizes that Theo’s shifting.
Before him is a very injured and very naked Theo Raeken. Liam spares his door a worried glance, he probably should have taken a moment to lock it. If either of his parents wake up and decide to peek into his room, they are going to be extremely surprised by what they find.
Theo’s gasping for breath face down on the carpet. His tan skin is oddly pale and tacky with blood.
“Shh,” Liam murmurs quietly. “It’s okay, Theo.”
Liam rolls Theo over onto his back, eyes roaming over the exposed expanse of skin. He grits his teeth when they his eye catch on Theo’s completely shredded torso. Claw marks stretch down from the boy’s right pec all the way to his belly button.
“What happened,” Liam asks pressing a towel against the freely bleeding wound. “Theo, what the hell?”
Theo doesn’t answer, just lets out a low grunt of pain at the press of fabric against his injuries. His eyes are closed, breath heavy and slow as though he’s passed out from the effort of switching back to his human form.
Liam is angry and scared and worried all at the same time. Fuck Theo’s: You only feel one emotion at a time bullshit.
Liam moves the towel to watch as the wound slowly tries to stitch itself back together, decides he’ll help the process as much as he can. He uses on hand to flick open the medical kit sitting beside him and pulls out the roll of surgical tape; with gentle fingers he squeezes the wounds closed and places strip after strip over them, leeching the pain away as he works.
When he’s done with the worst of it he checks over Theo’s bare body for any other grievous wounds. Finds that one of Theo’s wrists are broken, the skin mottled and bruised, but there’s nothing he can do for that. The bone will reset and mend itself.
With nothing left to doctor up Liam works on cleaning the blood from both of their bodies. He doesn’t care about the floor, he’ll figure out something to do about it tomorrow.
Liam takes a deep breath to calm himself, push back the anger at who—or whatever– did this. He rips off his bloody shirt and tosses it to the corner with the rest of his dirty laundry. He doesn’t bother grabbing a clean shirt, just rummages through his drawers until he finds a pair of shorts that will fit Theo and tosses them at the bed.
Slowly, he lifts Theo off the floor and carries him over to the bed. It’s harder now that Theo’s human, causes Liam to stumble, but he makes it there with over falling over or dropping his injured friend.
He lays Theo on the bed and carefully eases him into the pair of spare basketball shorts before retrieving his blanket from where he’d thrown it on the floor and covering the chimera up.
He doesn’t know where Theo had been or what the boy had gotten himself into, he just knows he’s glad the chimera is safe now. Even if he is fast asleep in Liam’s bed.
Liam stares at the open space left on the bed before shrugging and crawling in beside him, careful not to jostle the sleeping wolf. Liam reaches out to wrap a hand around Theo’s uninjured wrist. A grounding point of connection and reassurance for the both of them.
