“Elriel is too predictable! It’s boring & lazy writing!”

… 🧍‍♂️

My brother in Christ. You call SJM the fated mates author. Through 15+ books and 3 series she hasn’t diverged from that trope. Elain has a “mate”.

If an Elriel outcome is predictable, it’s because the author willed it so and therefore ✨wrote scenes✨ to ✨develop their relationship✨.

and by that i mean…

(long post ahead…. bear with me)

SJM wrote Mr. “I don’t need to resort to poetry” going all Azriel Allan Poe, flustered as he tells Elain “we are born hearing the song of the wind”. She wrote him uncharacteristically open & talkative, while when he 1st met Feyre he deferred all her questions to others.

SJM wrote that despite how different they may look, Elain does not balk from Az. She never has: from their 1st meeting she finds comfort in him, and he in turn notices her—she’s never been afraid of him, he has always seen her.

SJM wrote the 1st coherent thing to come out of Elain’s mouth in WaR to be “beautiful” as she beholds Azriel’s scarred hands. In turn, she wrote our gardener not minding imperfections on hers, for despite her lady-like conditioning, she prefers to get her hands dirty.

SJM wrote Az spending time with her in the sunshine: no forced conversation, no one hEaLinG anyone, just them both doing their own thing as a relaxed Az suns his wings. Just two pals comfortable with one another… which SJM foreshadowed in MaF through Feyre’s “Elain would likely cling to Az for some peace and quiet”.

SJM wrote Az and Cass both stilling at the sight of El & Nes, she wrote Az cutting in to set Elain up in her garden even as Feyre was about to do it, she wrote the mention that Elain was safe after the twin raven’s attack bc Az had stayed with her at the townhouse.

SJM wrote Azriel’s eyes churning as he looks at Elain and her too-thin body, before abruptly winnowing away, and we’re left with Mor looking at the spot where he left. Wonder what that was about (it certainly did not remind me of Rhys in TaR).

You know, Elriels are not just making stuff up and theorizing about the E/ucien bond cause we’re desperately pulling at straws…

SJM had Madja say “a mate would know if something is amiss”, then wrote a scene juxtaposing both Lucien’s and Azriel’s reactions/assessments of what was going on with Elain… and she had Azriel be the one to know nothing was “wrong” with her—no, she just had rare powers and needed to be heard, to be taken seriously. He didn't let her be misunderstood, for he was the ONLY one that listened to her, that took her visions/ramblings seriously right from the get go. And so he gave Elain the understanding she needed to free herself from the dream-like murky realm she was trapped in. Through it all, SJM emphasizes that Azriel also understands what it is like to struggle with rare, strange, prized powers in silence; what it’s like to be othered by them. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: she sees everything and he hears everything.

SJM wrote that “Elain had hoped that love would trump even a mating bond” and had her characters question the Cauldron in relation to Elucien *twice* (years apart!).

…

SJM wrote Az being the only one—in a room full of Made beings speaking of being Made—to notice that Elain was missing. A reassuring but empty statement by Cass that they’d get her back….but then it was Azriel that stated, eyes glowing golden, that HE would be getting her back, despite the girl’s own sister discouraging him & telling him he’d die. Hell, Feyre had this whole deliberation on whether she’d join him only after he’d say he’d go. His initiative.

The Hybern scene is too long to add, but this post and this theory break it all down brilliantly.

Yes, Az has sacrificial tendencies. Yes, he’d risk his life for loved ones in general. But we have never seen him this affected, and it is because SJM purposely used language to emphasize Elain and Azriel’s meaningful reactions to the other… despite it being wholly “unnecessary”

It is all intentional… lazy’s antonym.

SJM wrote the Truthteller scene. She emphasized the exchange, which left Cassian gasping and Rhys flabbergasted; it also left Feyre with a significant painting in her mind. It lead to Elain, aka “my God has answered me,” stepping out of a shadow to save her sister. Azriel, aka “God is my help”, indeed helped armed Elain so she could answer her sisters prayers.

SJM ended WaR with Elain’s smile literally lighting up Az’s shadows.

SJM had Elain’s thoughtful gift to him make his eyes the brightest we’ve seen—and by doing so gave us the most beautiful description of his earthy eyes, “the hues of green amid the brown and gray like veins of emerald.” We have never seen Az so joyful & carefree throughout the entire series.

SJM wrote that Azriel beat Feyre to Elain’s side as she was looking out into the night. She wrote Elain stilling at the sight of a dashing Azriel—her throat bobbing—while Az “just moved towards her”.

SJM wrote the potato scene—“sit i’ll take care of it”—Azriel again being the one to respect Elain’s presence & contribution as he makes a room full of his “superiors” wait until Elain finishes tidying herself up (cause girlie wanted to look put together for a certain shadowsinger). Mor gapes, Amren smirks, Rhys talks of Az’s mom… all because of that surprising, singular behaviour from him.

SJM wrote Az making a joke at Amren’s expense upon noticing Elain’s discomfort; our girl’s shoulders indeed relax in relief. THE LIGHT RETURNS IN HER EYES.

SJM has Azriel staying up past 3am with Elain, listening to her speak of something she is passionate of.

SJM wrote Azriel spending an entire convo with his brothers looking out into the garden from the window (SJM mentioned it 4 times yet some still missed it).

SJM wrote Rhys goading Az for a reaction as he quizzes him on Lucien and Grayson; wrote Rhys realizing that Azriel did not want to know what Elain did with Lucien (in the case she did anything). She wrote Azriel nervously stuttering as he asks risks if they need to get the sisters a present… I wonder why.

And Rosehall… SJM wrote ROSEhall: cracktheory this cracktheory that, to the gwonriels I’d say we both know you wouldn’t say it’s irrelevant had SJM chosen to call his estate Tealhall.

Keep in mind: SJM could have written those significant scenes and ultimately kept it PG: she could have chosen language that built up a profound platonic relationship.

Yet… in MaF she has Feyre comment that they would be good together—as in make a good *couple*. WaR roles in and they’re both dealing with the very public rejections they went through—but SJM had them build a quiet companionship in the background, while giving them a wealth of scenes of great significance for both their characters, and while using language like “she DEVOURED the sight of him” “he CRADLED her to his chest”. In FaS they are slowly but surely getting over their last loves, and SJM continues developing their connection.

And in ACOSF, in the book that supposedly “ended” Elriel…

SJM wrote Az following the sound of her laugh (😭). “ It’s just lust” PLEASE BFFR.

SJM chose to remind us—THREE times—of the Hybern rescue scene... then had Az tell Cass that he’d know, in his chest, if something happened to Nesta.

SJM had Az longingly stare at the gift Elain gave him every night for a YEAR—mind plagued by thoughts of her—made him so affected by her that he had reactions to every mention of her name in SF, so affected that it took Nes one look at them to notice his feelings, to reach out in comfort upon noticing the pain that keeping himself apart from to her caused him. As SJM said she would, Nes saw through his secret in ACOSF, still it is “his secret to tell, never hers”. After Solstice we are met with a grumpy Azriel, who lost the snowball fight for the 1st time in centuries (i wonder why…).

SJM chose to link his every secret back to his feelings for Elain, as per the bonus . Why does he stay up so late and wake up so early? He longs for Elain so much he can’t sleep. Why is he staying in the HoW? It is too hard to be close to Elain given their circumstances; he must physically distance himself from her. Why has he moved on from Mor after centuries? Elain. Why is he grumpy post Solstice? The argument with Rhys concerning Elain.

Ultimately, SJM wrote for Elriel:

- Complementary imagery (flowers and death? light and dark blending together to form something new… DUSK, anyone?)

- AND plot altering scenes

- AND chose to liken them to one another multiple times

- AND genuine moments of companionship that slowly bloomed into something more…

… Is it so insane to believe that maybe SJM spent so much page time and effort building connections & common ground between them because she intends for elain & az to find peace and quiet within one another?

Or idk, maybe it was all for shits and giggles… and if it was i salute her commitment to the shits and the giggles🫡

Either way, it is the opposite of lazy writing…

It’s SJM’s world & words, and we are just reading them.

P.S: This was all just typed on my cell phone from the top of my head… yes remembering all this is probs concerning, yes I am obsessed. Please correct me if I got anything wrong.

Are you named after anyone? My mom used to teach preschool and her favorite student’s name was Lacey. My middle name is a family middle name!

When was the last you cried? While I was reading my vows at my wedding last week hehe

Do you have kids? No but maybe one day idk 🤷🏼‍♀️

What sports do you play/have you played? Was a football kid from age 5-15 (was a brick shithouse CB/LB) and then I quit football to play tennis in high school. I am MUCH better at tennis than I am at football lol. I also swam in hs and rowed in college (5 seat best seat) and now I like to do yoga and walk mostly.

Do you use sarcasm? I do, but I’m getting better and reading when it’s appropriate and when it’s not. I like to communicate clearly and not be condescending as much as possible.

What is the first thing you notice about people? HEIGHT and hair and smile. Then sense of dress. Although to be clear none of that matters if their personality sucks and they’re unfunny lol

What is your eye color? Blue/grey

Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings 💯 I don’t like scary movies or really any horror. I like psychological thrillers and such but I don’t like violence/body horror/gore in film at all and avoid it as much as I can.

Any talents? I’m very musical (I can sing, play guitar, keyboard, drum, read music, etc), I can write, uhhh I’m good at taking to new languages, uhh I’m kind of good at a lot of things but an expert at nothing really

Where were you born? The US!

What are your hobbies? Watching football, going to football matches, talking about football…lol yoga/dance class, spending time with friends and my husband, listening to music, walking, learning German/taking adult German class, writing, reading, playing video games, whatever strikes my fancy at the moment. I can have fun doing pretty much anything

Do you have any pets? Two dogs!

How tall are you? 5’9”, like 175cm?

Favorite subject at school? English!

Dream job? No dream job I wish I didn’t have to participate in society in a way that exploits me! I’m a staunch anti-capitalist so my dream job is (post collapse of capitalism) taking care of young people like I do now but we’d all like…garden and go on hikes together and read and write poetry and I wouldn’t be coaching them on how to like…take standardized tests lol. Or maybe I’d be a farmer and take care of cows.

here are some words I'd use to describe myself. this is what I look like, should you wish to use my cover to judge my book (I do the same).

I like birds, and sometimes take photos of them (you can find many of them here among my original posts).

I write poetry, a lot of it terrible, but maya angelou says to 'just write' and sometimes it works out quite well, if you ask me—I seem to always come back to themes of coffee (so much coffee), am overly obsessed with rhyme, often enjoy the simplicity of tercets, and sometimes I write with a smile.

1. Are you named after anyone? It wasn't a concrete intention, but I ended up being named after my grandmother, Mary - cause Marissa. But my parents told me several other ideas they had that had nothing to do with family or anything at all lol.

2. When was the last time you cried? Two weeks ago. I pay for rent in emotional damage, not money.

3. Do you have kids? Nope. Never will.

4. What sports do you play/have you played? I was the one kid in a grade of 35 (25 boys and 10 girls) that WASN'T a jock. I have never enjoyed sports/competitive pursuits. A lot of trauma there lol. I did love doing ballet in college, though. And I like walking when I travel.

5. Do you use sarcasm? In words only (ha).

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Their overall vibe, I guess. Their demeanor. If they seem like they're having a bad day or if they seem safe and friendly, etc.

7. What’s your eye colour? Brown <3 All the fellow Gale girlies I've seen do this have brown eyes and I love that for us.

8. Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings. Media consumption for me in any form is meant to be a pleasant escape.

9. Any talents? I am naturally very quick to learn/absorb languages. I also have a very good sense of direction. If I've been somewhere once, I know how to navigate back no matter what angle I come from or how long it's been since I was first there.

Here aee the answers! I decided to go with one of my characters I haven't made a post about yet, Juni! Because I love her!

✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?

Her whole name is Juni Sharma!

Originally, her name wase meant to be Juniper, actually, but I ended up calling her Juni way more. Story-wise, she's of indian-secandinavian descent (her dad came from india, while her mom is finnish; they met in the US and she Exists). From what I found on good ol' internet, Juni means lovable, young or born in june.

While Sharma, her surname, came from her dad. It means "bliss", "happiness" or "warmth".

If I may be jonest it's been a while since I named her and I don't fully remember my intention with the name, so theresearch about the meaning was done now again. It certainly still fits her!

💼 - What do they do for a living?

Piracy! Juni joined the crew alongside Natasha, her best friend, so she wouldn't be left behind.

Due to her blindness, Juni prefers not to get involved in physical combat - instead, she works with Darty as another of the ship's musicians! That, and she also cares for the children.

Rarely she works as a spy as well, guve that her power is of enhanced hearing.

Begore that, she was a stundent and part-time worker at a restaurant, as a waiter. When she was able, she'd play as well for an extra money.

🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?

Juni isn't fully blind, she still loves to write poetry. It's one of her favorite past-times, even if she finds it very hard. Her boyfriend, Millard, loves to help when she asks and they both enjoy to read together as well.

She plays the violin; she got classes from a very young age and while her vision was deteriorating due to glaucoma, the violin was her best friend. She had a hard time adapting, especially since she was so young when she started to loose her vision, and it's still hard for her to fully deal with it but she's doing better now. And the violin stuck around.

Finally, Juni is a lover of horses! She always loved to ride them on her uncle's farm and had riding classes up until she disappeared (fucked off; her family thinks she's dead). This love for the animals stuck with her as she grew. Now, she rides whenever she gets a chance to visit Andy and Ted's ranch.

I'm debating on giving her own horse as well. Maybe?

INTRODUCING DXRLINGDAYDREAMS - A NEW WRITEBLR

Hi there! My name is Ellie and I use she/they/he pronouns. I’m 22 and proud to be a Virgo! I’m really new to writeblr, but I’ve been creating worlds and stories and lore since I was about 12 years old. I figured it was time to share the fun with more people. 🥰✨

I’m a big fan of poetry, mysteries novels, and anything fantasy that has in-depth world building! I haven’t been reading much lately, but if you have any good recommendations please let me know!

I mostly write one-shots about my OCs, but I do have a lot of lore surrounding them that I’d love to share. 😊 I also have a small collection of poetry that I might post from time to time.

My go-to genres in my personal writing are sci-fi and mythological fantasy. I usually write in third person, or an omniscient point of view. I have too many OCs to pick one as a focal point, haha!

That being said, it’s really hard to pick a favorite. My main characters all stem from the same family, the Emersons, but they live vastly different lives. The figureheads of the family are born of ancient gods from an island chain called La Cadena de Àvilusia off the coast of Spain and Portugal. I’ll post more content regarding the creation and history of the small nation soon! Then we can dive into my OCs.

I have another story in my back pocket about a revolution growing in space to fight against the monarchy of stars. A one-shot about it is definitely a WIP, so stick around if you’re interested in that too! 💫

Some goals I have for my writing going forward are to fully develop the lore surrounding my OCs They’re all really important to me and I tend to roleplay in my free time so they’re constantly evolving. It’ll be nice to get all of their information down in one place. I also aim to write more poetry to share with you all. I don’t write it as frequently as my other work because it’s like a diary entry to me. I find it very healing though, so I’d really love to give it more attention.

I’m extremely new here and I’m kind of floundering in trying to find similar creators to follow. Everyone meet Mavis! A new OC. Mavis is a sphinx cat mutant/yokai. Mavis will be in both a short comic featuring bayverse Donatello and be a character in my TMNT AU/Iteration. He's very clingy and loves to cuddle. He will make this face to get his cuddles. He moved to NYC from Deutschland/Germany and speaks both Deutsch/German and English.

Having this character speak primarily Deutsch is my motivation to keep up with my lessons (besides Duolingo knowing where I live/j).

I'm still in the early learning of Deutsch and anyone that speaks Deutsch and sees any mistakes pls let me know. Thank you! /Gen

I'm considering turning this into a sticker.

Also showcasing the main turtles from my TMNT AU/Iteration. I was designing their rooms and ended up drawing lil chibis of them.

Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael are still in this AU/Iteration and are still the 4 turtle heros that protect NYC. These beans live along with many other characters in another state. They all do eventually meet. The main story revolves around these turts and their family.

Poe and Hall's are twin turtles that were born as conjoined twins. The shell on their back was one whole piece. As they grew older their shell began to become more distinct. After the incident Lillie Mae decided it was best to have the two surgically separated. Poe is a quiet turt and usually only talks to Hall, though they do like to go and train with Lacks so they've become more comfortable talking with him. Poe is into writing poetry and drawing. Hall loves to talk with everyone about pretty much everything. She loves to learn and will gladly tell you all about her recent discoveries. Hall is into anything and everything science.

Thurgood, while an amazing prankster, is very serious when it comes to being the leader of the group. He also makes sure while he's stern he's also fair and caring of his siblings. Holds them accountable for things while also encouraging them to and giving them advice on how to. He's learned how to be a good leader from Frederick, how to be kind and understanding from Lillie Mae, and how to not take shi- from anyone and how to be cool and collected from Nocturna.

Billie is the big sister and single mom of the group. Family is her top priority. She likes to make sure while being a big sis and mom she also makes sure everyone gets to live their best lives. Yeah sure they're supposed to be heros and serious but she'll be damned if they don't get to have a good life while they can. She loves to sing and Zappa (her son) has taken an interest in music because of it and loves to play the drums on everything.

Lacks is the medic/Dr/nurse/etc (basically anything medical) of the group. He makes sure to take care of everyone that comes into his care. He'll make sure that you leave better than how you came in. He was taught how to be a medic by a med student that had been staying with the family when they were all younger. The med student after she graduated continued to teach Lacks all she knew and gave him all her old textbooks. Whenever he has questions or needs help he will call her to get help/advice with what he's dealing with.

Divine is the fashionista/make-up artist/therapist of the group. Whatever you need he'll be there. He designed the clothes his family wears special so that they can fit perfectly with their mutant/yokai bodies while also looking fabulous! He's also the turtle everyone goes to when they need to talk things out or need advice. He enjoys doing drag when he has a chance. He also loves to draw with Poe and sing with Billie and Zappa.
