#Blades of the yiga

Text
Just a little reminder that the German description of the memory "Blades of the Yiga" translates to this:
"After Zelda declined Link to accompany her to her research about the ruins, the Yiga-Clan attacked her. She fled, but was stalemated. In the very last moment, Link appeared and saved her."
So. Zelda explicitly told him to leave her alone. He disregarded her orders (again) and stayed close enough to get to her in time, but not so close that she knew he was there.
I think that says a lot about his character. He must have followed her to guard her without making himself known or otherwise her desperate flight doesn't make sense. He respected her wish to be alone as long as he could. And she didn't spend her time praying or with other princess duties, but he let her do her research (!) although he probably knew the King wasn't too fond of that.
This way, her surprised and admiring reaction makes a lot of sense, too. Zelda realizes at this moment that he must have been there for quite some time and has gone out of his way not only for her safety but for letting her follow her passion, too.

Xeiya, Yiga Clan's favorite ancient tech researcher! When he isn't getting distracted by trying to make sentient bananas or constructing banana mechs, she's experimenting with ancient Sheikah technology and building weapons.
She speaks like an instruction manual a lot of the time, and repeats words like 'fascinating' and 'intriguing' in response to very standard human behaviors. Generally, he's pretty harmless. Perhaps eccentric. Makes decisions one may consider unwise.
Change pronouns as often as possible. Mid-sentence sometimes, that's Xeiya's favorite.

"Come now, Link. I was starting to think you'd forgotten about me...".
TotK had reawakened my Yiga Clan obsession.. Have Junko, a Yiga who uses wind techniques and bladed fans as weapons :)

A Teaser
Who knows when I’ll get around to actually writing this. I do have it all outlined at least? I figure it’s a bit of a weapon collecting quest which becomes enemies to lovers with a training montage or two.
Without further ado: Of Bananas and Bladed Fans - a Snippet
Wild looked across the wooden bridge to stare at the mask of his opponent. The signature laugh he was sure *had * to be some kind of recording meant to freak him out echoed in the wind as they teleported away. In their place sat a beautiful bladed fan-no, Paya had told him it was a tessan- and a note in place of bananas and rupees.
"See you next week!“
He smiles softly and tuck the note into his slate, opening the fan and checking each blade. Just as beautiful as the last one. Now he can get back to his practice lessons with Yatir.

When people start writing chain visits totk hyrule I HOPE that y'all include wilds weird Tony Hawk fame.
Passing merchant, spying the master sword on sky's back: wow, beaut of a blade you have there! Better train up so you can one day become as good as Link! Bahaha!
Wild, the one doing business with him: yeah so can I have the carp please?
Merchant, exchanging the fish for rupees: here you go! I wonder how he's doing? Must be taking it pretty easy now the dangers over.
Wild: I'm sure he'd like that.
Legend, leaning over after they've gone: hey wild wtf.
Wild: man I don't know. When I first went missing I came back and one of the guys literally on the search party for me went 'wow! You're the spitting image of link!' so I don't know if it's the hand or the lack of zelda or what. Not like I already met literally everyone during the calamity.
Time: and you haven't corrected them?
Wild: at this point it's just funny. Definitely cuts down on the weird fans. I mean apart from the yiga -

Sometimes it’s fun to remember that Link is lowkey a cocky little shit whenever it comes to the Yiga Clan.
He shows a Yiga Blademaster the Purah Pad to do the examination. They mark the spots where the little frog statues are.
He can stroll in WITH the master sword.
Sheikah tech, ancient blade known to be wielded by Link, one hand not gloved, his blonde hair stickin out, a Zonai Battery Pack attached to his hip… I CANNOT with him.

Apple Merchant [BOTW!Link x Isekai!Reader] (Part 4)
Link learns some things. And so do you.
Yet another for the ever growing pile of self-indulgent garbage refuse. Enjoy the process of decomposition with me for a while.

---
The yiga. A faction of Ganon worshipping traitors formerly of the Sheikah clan, whose main objective is to kill the Hero known as Link (in other words, himself). Known for their distinctive red body suits and white masks. And, strangely enough, their love of bananas.
They were also currently at the very top of Link's (until recently non-existent) shit list, because AM had deemed their threat level too great to allow them to meet each other freely. As Blue had told him, AM's profession placed them at greater danger than the average citizen to the assassins' blades. What that profession was, Link was not told (despite his pleading and intense stares and even one memorable attempt to bargain for the information), but it was deemed necessary to maintain distance because of this.
There were plenty of other useful things in the book too. Not a letter or a note or even a small bundle of documents. A book. An honest to Goddess book. Because there was nothing else the ridiculously thick, neatly piled collection of leather bound miscellaneous papers, maps, diagrams, notes and documents could be. It was the thickness of Link's hand for goodness sakes.
Thankfully, Blue had taken mercy on him (and his desire to get moving as soon as possible) and bookmarked the pages and maps that would be most useful to him. All while giving him that bland, graceful smile of hers and explaining that AM was a very proactive information gatherer, but that they didn't always consider that not everyone wanted to know the exact region Sneaky snails bred in or where the highest priced wheat could be found.
Link very deliberately didn't tell her that he did, in fact, find those very interesting topics to learn about (and that he would be reading through the entire book when he got the chance. later). Because he was still stung that she'd given him a condescending little smile (smirk, it was a damned smirk and Link knew it) when he'd tried to bargain with her for more information on AM.
In total, he'd spent three days in Hateno, gathering information (as though the book wasn't enough), gathering supplies (because as many as were in the slate, it didn't have everything a warrior would need to maintain his gear. Blue's words, not his) and getting to know the people around the area.
Also, armor. Costume fitted (Link didn't think too hard about how Blue had gotten his measurements) as to AM's specifications before they'd left town. The order arrived a little later due to his (apparently) small size causing complications with some of the straps.
Honestly, it felt good. It felt familiar with a hazy kind of comfort that spoke of his body's remembrance of such armor resting upon it often. And suddenly, in that moment, the thought that he had once been a knight didn't feel so far off, despite having no memory of it and very little desire to become as such again.
Ready to go (finally) he put on his boots, tightened the straps of his new (fitted. maybe he'd see about getting his Sheikah armor fitted as well if he was in the area) hyrulian armor set, and took one last shot before departing.
"Where can I get more bananas?" Link tried, going for casual but coming off far too intense for it to be anything but prying. "For the Yiga problem."
Blue just smiled (small and condescending, and so frustrating) before replying evenly. "AM has that well in hand I'd imagine." The knowing glint in Blue's eyes put a pout on Link's face. "It's best you focus on your mission, Courageous One." Then she smiled genuinely. Just a bit, but enough to ease Link's heart as she continued. "Fear naught for your beloved AM. No harm shall befall them while my sister haunts their shadow."
Link believed her. And with that little bit of reassurance, the Hero of Hyrule set out into the world once more. With courage in his heart and his goal ever at the forefront of his mind.
Defeat the Calamity guy. Meet AM. Travel this vast, wondrous world with them for the rest of their days. Or, maybe one day settle down more permanently in Hateno and open a food stand.
Anywhere life took them. Whatever you wanted. This was the beginning of his new life after all, and he was so eager to spend it with you.
---
You stared up at the quickly growing pile of bright yellow fruit with something like regret stabbing at your heart. Just thinking about how much rupees you were about to drop on this one purchase alone was enough to put a hitch in your throat. It was enough to have you contemplating a long walk off that equally long (absurdly long) wooden bridge just next to the stable.
When you'd stopped at Lakeside Stable for the night and told Adino you'd pay him market price for any bananas he brought back to you before you left. You hadn't expected him to take that as a challenge. You hadn't expected Skims to get involved in it as well. And you most certainly had not expected Red to show up out of nowhere with a pile rivaling (and maybe even surpassing) Adino's.
And thus, within the span of a few short hours, you were suddenly several thousand rupees poorer (not that that pantry amount even scratched the surface of your accumulated wealth, but you digress) and many, many bananas richer.
At least they tasted good.
"Not that I'm against your presence. But why are you here, Red?" You asked the red clad woman after (with a heavy heart) passing out everyone's pay for the bananas they'd brought you. (Skims and Red didn't even have the grace to look ashamed for muscling in on the quick profit either, the jerks.)
She didn't even pause from where she'd been fingering through her newly acquired (ill gotten) gains when she hummed playfully. "Oh. Gran thought it'd be wise to send along a little extra protection to ensure The Hero's benefactor remained unmolested during these most crucial of times."
The look on your face must have been confused enough to spur Red to explain. "Gran told us to keep you in the dark about our motivations, but I like you. So I'll tell you the truth, since you seem like the reasonable sort." She finally put the rupees down and turned to face you, eyes hardening into a serious shade of near black as she explained.
"The Hero is without his memory, and until recently, was without motivation to see his mission through with the urgency it requires. Had he been as he was before, just the mention of the Princess would have been enough to send the guy running, if you believe the rambling of nostalgic old gossip crows." Her lips twisted into something too complicated to decipher before it was neutral again.
"But he's not the man he used to be. He's not the princess's knight anymore for all his destiny would push him to be. And so, he needed a new motivation to get him moving." She gave you a smile, but it wasn't a nice one (it was one full of spite and pity, though only the pitying part was directed at you). "That's you. The guy loves you already. Call it situational stockholm or just that damned knightly instincts of his, but you are the apple of his eye." She tried to soften her smile into something humorous, but it fell short.
"Bottom line. You're the replacement motivation. Just until he gets enough of his memories back to get invested in the Princess' wellbeing." She flicked a rupee off the stump she'd gathered them on, expression very closed off as she continued.
"Whenever Mr. hero gets a little too comfortable playing house, we're supposed to dangle you in his face and get him interested again. That you seem invested in his success was just a bonus. Be it the Will of Hylia or just simple coincidence, doesn't matter. You're useful, and if it gets the Princess out of that Hell, we're willing to use that."
Another smile, sharp but honest. "It's our duty after all, to serve the royal family. I'm sure you understand." Despite the way the information settled sourly in your stomach you nodded, keeping your expression as even as possible.
She noticed though, and suddenly her hand was on yours (you hadn't noticed it tightening into a fist). "Don't fret, Apples." She smiled again, softer this time. Eyes lighted with a compassion that held such raw honesty despite her earlier words. "My sister and I are not going to let the elders use you like that. You might have asked yourself why Bluey isn't here instead, since, you know-" She smirked, side-eyeing Adino who'd gone some distance off to try to find more bananas (to take more of your rupees, the little bastard).
"We will fulfill our duties. For the protection of Hyrule and everything we love. But not at your's or your dear Hero's expense. At least, not like that. You see, Bluey has something I do not, and that is a gentle touch. She'll take care of the Hero in the way he needs, not the way that'll get the fastest results." Her smirk widened. "And she's got more of a rebellious streak than me too. Trust in her. She'll protect your dear Hero. Even if she has to spit in the elders' eyes to do it. She never could put her heart aside for the sake of duty."
You were silent for a time, digesting her words with the weight and attention they deserved, before looking back to her. A smile on your lips, and your hand out before her in the gesture of a shake.
"I look forward to doing business with you then, Red." You began, letting the edge of your resolve sharpen your eyes and embolden your words. "Let's do our best to protect Link and save Zelda. We'll give it everything we've got."
Red grinned, full and bright and smug (so unbearably smug, like she had won the lottery. which they didn't have here, and you were not interested in introducing any time soon either). "I knew you were gonna understand. The Goddess wouldn't choose just anyone to guard her chosen's heart."
You blinked. "What?"
Red picked up another rupee, flicking it at you. "What~?"

Could you do Yandere BOTW Champions or TOTK Sages x Reader who has the Mask from Majora’s Mask? The reader is Hylian. But they have the usual four mask, Plus the Fierce Deity mask.
As head cannons preferably.
This is a mostly Linked Universe Blog, but sure! I'm not overly well versed on the whole Mask deal, so please bare with me.
I went with the BOTW Champions, since not everyone knows the sages.
Champion of the Masks
Tumblr media
・❥・So, if you know the Champions, there's a good chance you are a knight or warrior in your own right.
・❥・You are someone powerful, probably because of said masks. For Hylia's sake, you have the Fierce Deity looking over you. You are practically untouchable.
・❥・And the other Champions are well aware of this fact. But that doesn't change anything.
・❥・Because you are still so vulnerable. What happens when you're separated from your masks? Then what? Hm? You are just so vulnerable, can't you see that?
・❥・You don't have any powers of the wind, not any form of protection. You can't control any elements, nor can you heal. You certainly don't have any part of the triforce. You are powerless.
・❥・Which is why they needed to be there to protect you!
・❥・Now, Revali. My loveable douche-bird. He tries to keep you at a distance, but still falls. And he falls hard. Revali is the only champion who wasn't born with his gift. He had to build Revali's gale into what it was from scratch.
・❥・Reader probably recognizes all of his hard work, because (and this is from my very limited research) to get all of the Masks in their possession? A bitch and a half. They weren't gifted these masks. Not without a price. So they can recognize a situation where you are pitted against these...demi-gods eons beyond your own abilities and forced to catch up or fall behind.
・❥・And Revali absolutely cherishes this. Having someone not look down on him, but instead stand on the very same footing he was? Man's is down bad.
・❥・He is particularly fond of your Breman Mask because you just look so pretty in feathers. And while yes, white looked nice on you, blue looked better.
・❥・I HC that every race has their own form of courting rituals, Rito included. They probably make their intended betrothed some sort of snow-quill headpiece meant for the cold, lined with their feathers and intricate braids of fine silks and expensive ribbons.
・❥・You just know that Revali, as a champion, would make a nice courting present. And you just know he is purposefully difficult and makes everyone else come to him in the Rito village (He is their best warrior and is shown to lead their army in AoC). You just know that he demands the princess bring her two best knights, which begrudgingly means Link, but it also means you. You who wears the snowquill bit with pride-- even if you don't know what if means really.
・❥・It doesn't matter because the others do.
・❥・The next one to fall is Urbosa.
・❥・She falls after seeing you in battle. The Gerudo, regardless of gender, can respect a Warrior when they see one. And you are a warrior. You with your sharp wit and insane reaction times, parrying a blade aimed for her.
・❥・Your strength alone makes her swoon because out of everything she can respect that.
・❥・Her favorite mask of yours is the Garo's mask. Not only does it fool these supposed Garo (You are so smart, did you know that? With all of your stories and journeys.), but it also fools the Yiga. The Mask of Truth does as well, but the thought of spilling her guts to you makes her uneasy.
・❥・Not because she doesn't want you to know how constantly you're running through her head, but she doesn't want you to know how deep these thoughts delve.
・❥・When you're able to fool the Yiga and get back to her about an ambush planned on her people, she knows you're the one.
・❥・I like to imagine the Gerudo focus more on jewelry for a courting action. Not rings, no. But intricate pieces of armor lined with gems aimed to aid in battles.
・❥・Brigandines lined with topaz; Gorgets lined with opals; spaulders ordained in rubies; Poleyn decorated in sapphires. Even your own Scmitar enhanced by diamonds. All of it custom made to you to show her devotion to you.
・❥・Now, with this being all useful items you can wear in battle, you're seen in it often.
・❥・Daruk is next. He falls for you after seeing you in his, coincidentally, favorite mask. You tell the tale of the Goron Mask after he asks, weaving this intricate legend that had him hanging onto every word.
・❥・The Gorons show their love through food. So Daruk makes it a point to constantly share his food, both sedimentary and otherwise. He loves knowing that you are well fed and cared for because of him.
・❥・I feel like the highest form of love that can be shown through food for a Goron is a Prime Rock Roast. And while he knows Hylian's can't eat rocks (Link excluded because...it's Link), he looks for the next best thing.
・❥・Intricate pasties filled with only the finest of whipped cream and dusted with powdered sugar; dripping roasts just oozing juice that practically fall of the bone; grilled fish where the smell alone is enough to make you sallivate
・❥・All of it are gifted to you to ensure you think of him whenever you feel hungry. That he is your go to.
・❥・Now, next is a tie between Link and Zelda.
・❥・Zelda probably falls first because she sees you interacting with the others and watches you. In fact, you watch her back. But the difference between you watching her and Link watching her, because her father has allowed you to take over for Link on the rare occasion, is that you give her space. You allow her to disappear into the divine beasts, waiting patiently for her to come to you.
・❥・You entertain her with stories upon stories.
・❥・You listen to her woes with a careful ear and offer your own advice.
・❥・You even braved her cooking.
・❥・She loves all of your masks and cherishes each story about them. But when you wear the Great Fairy Mask and let fairies tickle her cheeks?That's when she swoons the most.
・❥・Link falls during all the time he spends with you chasing after Zelda. You're able to hold your own, which is always appreciated, and you're okay with silence. Silence settles between you two often while waiting for Zelda and you don't push it.
・❥・And you don't look at him like he's anything other than a Hylian. Not the wielder of the sword that seals the darkness.
・❥・Not this random knight that was handed a legacy on a plate.
・❥・Not an annoyance that needed to be shook off,
・❥・He was just Link to you. And it made his heart sing.
・❥・Unfortunately, neither are quite in the position to court you. Not with Calamity on the horizon, nor with their standings in the royal council. And it tears them apart in the inside. Seeing you decked out in jewels with feathers woven into your hair, eating some of the finest things Hyrule has to offer, all of it makes them bitter and hungry. Hungry to show how you belong to them.
・❥・You get prefential treatment in the castle. The finest of rooms with the softest of sheets. Plump pillows and too many locks on the door to keep you right where she wants satin pajamas, all just for your enjoyment.
・❥・Or the best weapons and shields available to the royal guard. Bows re-strung just for you, or the lion's share of arrows provided. Want that Shield that Jimmy Whosit has? Give Link three minutes. No, there's no blood on the shield, what are you talking about? You must exhausted if you're seeing things, maybe you should just skip training all together?
・❥・It's all yours.
・❥・Now, the last person to fall, is Mipha. She's very hesitant to lend her heart out to you, but you know who isn't afraid of showing their emotions on their sleeves for everyone to see?
・❥・Sidon.
・❥・Sidon, in all his little fishy glory, loves you when you come around. when you dawn the Zora mask and swim with him. You play all the games that Mipha won't because they're 'too dangerous'. So when you come around he's ecstatic, dragging his sister down to see you alongside him.
・❥・Mipha tolerates you for the time being, probably still in love with a different knight, making him his own armor. But after she finishes it, it's no longer shaped to Link's form. No. Somewhere along the way it went from being formed to his broader shoulders to being shortened to your own narrower set. It no longer was long enough to fit his torso, instead fitted to your own.
・❥・Her heart had tainted her hands, making armor for you before she even knew what it all meant. The only reason the rest of her catches up is because she sees you with Sidon.
・❥・She watches you swim on you back, with Sidon clinging to your chest, laughter bubbling up from both of you.
・❥・And the last of them falls.
・❥・She aims to give you the armor after the fall of the calamity, but...I'm sure we all know how that'll play out...
・❥・Anyway, between them all, you get very little time to yourself. They are all constantly hovering over you.
・❥・You think you can get away with one of your masks?
・❥・Nice try.
・❥・Your precious Stone Mask? Gone. Confiscated under the order of Princess Zelda King Rhoam.
・❥・Think you can fight your way out?
・❥・Not even the Fierce Deity mask can save you from the champions, their Divine Beasts, and the Triforce of Wisdom and Courage, nor their wielders.
・❥・You wanna run and hide?
・❥・There is not a single inch of Hyrule that one of them doesn't know about.
・❥・You are well and truly trapped under their hold, just where they like you.
・❥・Trapped like a fucking bird in a cage while they fight amongst themselves to see who you stay with.
・❥・ Let's hope they decided quickly before the Calamity decides he's done being patient.

Tears: My cold, dark, rotten heart feels no affection for anyone.
Y/N: *sneezes*
Tears: Are you sick? Where's your tunic?
۵♡۵
Yan!Tears headcannons
tw: yandarism, he goes a bit feral, obsession, spoilers for totk, kidnapping
My belief is that Tears joined the chain about midway through his journey. He was freshly abandoned by the princess and now has to defend an entirely new hyrule against entirely new threats. And he began to crack. Not readily noticeable, but certainly enough to wear down his sanity. He was already a little more in the untamed side at the end of his last journey, but he can only spiral further from there. He’s gotten horribly good at keeping up that public mask now people know who he is, good enough to fool those not willing to see the cracks.
This slow decline of his mental health is what made him crack the second he saw you. And that’s not an exaggeration either. He held no regard for the useless fools that surrounded you and cared little for their blades, you’d been returned to him. He could feel your skin against his, breathe you in wholly, sense your heart fluttering, He had you. Finally. He did not care if he needed to claw, kick, bite, rip or tear every single thing and person to keep you.
Once he’s able to barter his way into traveling alongside the chain, i’m sorry. Your fate is sealed. No god nor force of nature could stop him.
As a small side note, the gloom definitely affected him to further along his decent. It ate away at his inherently good qualities until all he’s left with is his base instincts and his desire. Any kind action has its alterier motive, every sweet word laced with his own type of venom. It’s left him so primal and yet so intelligent. He can reason without empathy for those that will be hurt getting in the way. He can swing the sword without caring for the repercussions. He’s the ‘Hero’. Not like anyone’s going to stop him.
Initially, his affection borders on innocent enough. Unhealthily attached? Yeah. Obsessive? Most definitely. But reaching its limit? No, not nearly. It begins slow enough, constantly vying to be by your side. He always has an arm around your waist or an hand entangled in your own, but he’s always near. Always.
It develops quick enough. Threats to those who get a little too close to you, at first as genuine protection, but it becomes his claim. Word spreads quick through the tiny villages that you are not to be preyed on. Not by them at least. He’s allowed to eye your neck, especially considering his endless gifts adorn it. You have everything short of a ring on your finger, he’s saving that until the others can’t interrupt.
He’d scare you into loving him. This world is a very dangerous place, but how convenient his arms are wide open to you. What a coincidence that the horrid world leaves you be when his arm is wrapped around your waist.
But don’t be a fool. Leave and this protection drops immediately. You’ll learn. You’ll learn when the yiga find you or when you stumble into some constructs or a mysterious patch of gloom hands appears.
The more he succumbs to the influence of the malice, the more the gloom eases to its will. The more cooperative he is to loosing himself, the more control he has.
Don’t leave him.
So many have already.
He can’t let you slip away too.
He’d kidnap you. There’s a basement just for you in that custom house of his. Or maybe down a well somewhere… or maybe the gerudo prison if you’re less accommodating to his demands. You’ll stay his. And you’ll learn to like it weather you want to or not.

The Final Promise₊˚✩⊹
Chapter 12
Linked Universe x reader
Warnings: Angst, tension??, angstangstangst
₊˚✩⊹
Four was worried. It’s been almost 5 days since the brawl at the Yiga clan hideout and you’ve barely spoken to anyone. At first, he brushed it off as being an aftershock, after all you were unconscious for the first 24-hours after the incident. But almost a week of not being your usual self? He was getting very worried.
You barely ate, picking at your food most of the time. Wild’s attempts at making your favorites didn’t help much either. You tossed and turned most nights, ending up sitting on your bedroll from the latest hours of the night, into the first rays of a new day. Your eyes were so so dull, you looked like a husk of yourself, as if someone tried to make a replica of you. As if someone could ever compare or replace you.
Four watched as you made your way over to him, sitting between him and Wind.
“If one of you asks me if I’m alright I’m going to kick your kneecaps in.”
“Got it.” Wind replies.
Four sighs, focusing back onto sharpening his blade. It was a small knife, the blade itself shorter than his forearm. It was his go-to when it came to small daggers, so he sharpened it every few days or so to keep it in pristine capability.
“Had enough of Cap and the Old man, huh?” Four mumbles, trying to look preoccupied.
“Just tired of the contant looming over my shoulder and treating me like a damn vase.”
He nods.
Wind groans lightly, “Ugh, tell me about it. They can’t see past me being a 12-year old, regardless if I fuckin’ killed Ganon or not.” He pulls out a small flask from his bag, causing you to raise an eyebrow.
“Since when do you drink?”
“Since when do you care?”
You back off, clearly it's a touchy subject.
“Sorry, Y/n.”
“All good.”
The night continues, Wind eventually setting up his bedroll to go to sleep. He shuffles up to Sky, who was out about half an hour ago, already somehow in deep sleep. The group relocated to a stable on the outskirts of Hyrule Field, the plan of going to the Arbiter’s Grounds being delayed, yet again.
You sigh, “I don’t know what to do anymore, Four. I’m just so… lost.”
He puts his dagger down, sheathing it. He looks at you, your face illuminated by the low light produced by the embers.
“Is this about your journey?”
You nodded. You could feel the tears already starting to leak from your eyes.
“Is it ok if I touch you, Y/n?”
You nod again, hiccuping lightly.
He scoots right next to you, putting your arm around your form and rubbing your arm slowly. Placing his chin on your head, he lets you cuddle up to him, crying softly into his chest. He combed his fingers through your hair, placing a light kiss on your head.
“I’m right here, Y/n. I’m here. Shhh.” he cradles you, holding you slightly tighter whenever a particularly louder wave of cries comes out of you. Legend was still awake, as it was his turn for watch, a solemn look on his face while he looked at you.
“E-Everything’s changing and I-I’m being left in the dark-” you hiccup, sobbing harder into Four’s chest. Four’s hold tightens on you again.
“What do you mean, Y/n?”
You gasp, “I could’ve-”
You breathe in again, “Everyone is acting different towards me and I know its all m-my fault because I don’t know what I fucking want.”
“I don’t think anyone knows what they want, baby.”
“I thought I did. I wanted to go home but after some stuff that’s happened recently… I don’t know. Is that selfish of me?”
Four shakes his head, “Of course not. Changing your mind in the process is natural.”
“Then why do I feel like I’m splitting myself into two versions of myself? One that’s in Hyrule and one that’s in my era.”
Four sighs dejectedly, placing another kiss on your forehead.
“I don’t know, Y/n. I don’t know.”
~
A new dawn breaks over the horizon, shining onto the dew settled over Hyrule Field, the light fog dissipating. You fluttered your eyes open, your body scrunched up between Twilight and Hyrule, who were still in deep sleep. Feeling antsy, you climb over them and make your way to Wild, who was already awake, prepping breakfast.
He looked tired. You both were.
“Hey.” you rasped, your voice still hoarse from the crying of the evening before.
He looks at you, and gives you a small, tightlipped smile. He was swiping through his slate, gathering ingredients for breakfast. You placed your hand over his, causing him to halt in his actions. You both don’t move for a minute.
He slumps forward, face in his hands. Shakily, he says, “Fuck, I’m so sorry. If I didn’t leave you alone this could’ve all been prevented.”
You shake your head, “None of us knew, Wild. Riju didn’t know, Time didn’t. It’s not your fault, it was an accident.”
You bring him to lean against you, the slate being long forgotten about on the ground.
“I shouldn’t have wandered off, you literally told me not too. I’m partially at fault too.”
You chuckle, “And look where my stubborn self got me.” That seemed to make Wild crack a smile, making the tinge in your heart diminish.
“You do have a hard time listening.” he said, you just give him a playful nudge.
“Har har, speak for yourself blondie.”
You both sit in comfortable silence, Wild going back to picking out ingredients on his slate. A thought pops into your head, “Wild, can I take a look at the mirror shard again? I wanna compare some of the hieroglyphics to the book Shad gave me.”
He tenses up slightly, but it quickly goes away, pulling out the shard from the slate. He carefully places the shard on your legs, making sure the sharp edge doesn’t cut your leg. Pulling out the Encyclopedia, you turn to the chapter about the Twili tribe.
You run your fingers along the markings on the mirror, lightly engraved into the mirror. Unsurprisingly, there were no visual differences from the shard in your lap and the mirror on the page, meaning this wasn’t just a replica but the real thing. Before you could continue reading, Twilight walks up behind you two, making you close the book and put the mirror away. You could read at a later time.
“Hey pup, Y/n.” Twilight mutters, voice raspy with sleep. Curse his bedroom voice making you weak.
You just waved, not trusting your voice at the moment. He sits next to you, you now sitting between him and Wild. You can feel his eyes on you, you glance at him asking “What?”
He still gazes at you, flickering his eyesight to Wild, then back to you.
“Oh, nothin’. You two just seem cozy.”
Wild snaps his head at his mentor, “Shut up, Twi. Don’t think I don’t notice you making goo-goo eyes over there.”
“Right. Speak for ya self, pup.” he remarked, snorting at Wild’s fumbling. You smiled, eyes crinkling at the corners.
A moment of silence passes, just the sound of the breeze blowing past your ears, causing stray hairs to stream over your face. The clouds seemed gray today, but not like an imposing storm was about to break, no, more peaceful. Serene.
“What are you guys going to do once this is all done and over with?” you ask, not really knowing where the question came from.
“Jeez I don’t know, probably go home and help around Hateno and the princess. I know she’s building a school for the village.” Wild says, looking out onto the terrain.
Twilight ponders for a moment. He didn’t really think about what he was going to do once this was over and once… you left. He never really thought you’d leave, especially now that it feels so soon and abrupt, he’s dreading his future.
“Don’t know, to be honest. Go back to Ordon, help Rusl and with the farm. Make sure the kingdom ain’t in shambles.” he lied. That was the last thing he wanted to do after all of this. He didn’t want to return after knowing what it's like not being alone anymore. He was left behind once, he didn’t want it again.
“You’re a terrible liar, Twi.”
“What? No I’m not-”
“Your ears twitch when you lie.”
“It’s true.” Wild muttered, resulting in a slap up the back of his head from Twi.
Twilight sighed. Rubbing the back of his head, he turned to you “Truth is… I didn’t think this would end. Don’t get me wrong, I love home and bein’ with everyone it’s just… after I’ve found people who know what it’s like to carry this burden, I don’t think I want anything else.”
You hated this feeling of guilt you were starting to feel about going home. You didn’t belong here, you weren’t meant to be here, unlike them. You needed to go home, forget everything, or at least regard it as a really good dream.
But it’s not that simple, is it?
“I don’t want to leave you guys. I really don’t. I’ve become so attached to this life and all of you and I feel… heartbroken.” you sighed, laying on your back, blades of grass digging slightly into your exposed skin.
“I mean… you don’t have to. I may be wrong saying that, but Hylia isn’t necessarily pulling you into a portal to go home.” Wild offers, choosing his words carefully.
You groan in frustration, “I know, I know. But its so much more difficult. Like, yeah I won’t have to deal with stupid shit like college classes or working my entire life for a mediocre job, but… my brother and my aunt are home and they need help. I have a few friends that are probably wondering where I’ve been and if I’m ok. I don’t want them to worry for me and my life, knowing that makes me feel so much worse, y’know?”
Both men nodded, relating to your thoughts on some level. Their adventures weren’t by choice and pulled them away from their friends and family without a warning. A burden that can’t be undone or altered.
“Either way, you didn’t have much of a choice. You were sucked in the portal as well, a quest destined for you, as well.” Hyrule spoke, quietly padding up to you three.
You snort, “Have you been listening this entrie time, Rulie?”
“Eh, bits n’ pieces. The others are waking up anyways.”
You sit back up and decided to be productive for another 20-30 minutes, as Wild was just barely starting to cook breakfast. From what you could tell, it looked to be a sweeter meal this morning.
You looked back at the book, reading through the script. You were sitting against Twilight, a nice support for your back. You tried to not pay attention to his warm breath on your neck or the feeling of his eyes on you, but that was easier said than done.
You zoned out everyone’s chatter, finally focusing on the task at hand. You took the mirror back out again and tore a spare piece of paper from an old journal a merchant gave you, using an old piece of charcoal to transfer the engravings of the mirror onto the paper so you could compare with less physical effort and so Wild could keep the shard in his Slate whenever you needed to reference the imagery again. The hieroglyphics transferred seamlessly, the paper seemingly identical to the mirror.
Looking back to the book, you filled in the missing shards and any images/lettering that faded or was carved off for reasons unknown. You then pulled away, looking at your work. Not too shabby.
But you noticed something peculiar. The mirror in the book had straight lines that overlapped the ornate designs, almost as if someone carved them in years after its initial creation. It wasn’t messy by any means, though it seemed that it wasn’t the initial design of the mirror.
What if…?
“Four, I need a small blade really quick.” you said, not taking your eyes off of your drawing.
He was about to say something, but Legend beat him to it, handing you a small blade just slightly longer than your palm. Muttering a ‘thanks’, you start cutting the paper along the lines that you copied, making sure to keep your hand steady. Once you finished, you handed the blade back to Legend, then focused back onto the scraps of paper in front of you.
You started rearranging the pieces, aligning each piece with the associated shape or side. The pieces started forming a familiar shape, but something was different. Something you should’ve seen before. Something everyone should’ve seen.
“What is it, Y/n?”
You look up at Twilight.
“It’s not a triforce, Link. It’s a tetraforce.”

i think it’s insane that zelda fell first truthers seem to think that i am only operating on the “evidence” of him being protective of her. like i’m stupid enough to only think superficially regarding their relationship. and it’s so IRKSOME that the automatic assumption is that i am not pulling from a fundamentally different reading that doesn’t inherently rely on evidence.
like yes, it is sweet that he threw himself in front of the yiga clan with no thought to his own safety. and yes, that is his job. but it’s MORE than that imo. it is, again, that it is talked about in text that link would’ve lived at the castle training to be a knight with his father before he pulls the master sword. i think link knew the princess was beautiful and had a minor crush - the kind you’d get on a pop star. it’s something he can dismiss out of hand.
but then he pulls the master sword. and the prophecy is revealed. and suddenly there’s a burden on his shoulder that he finds it difficult to speak. he has all these duties he didn’t ask for and the only person in the world he can relate to is the princess who hates his guts. they share a burden, and she refused to even look his way. and yet king rhoam orders them to spend time together, assigns him to be her knight. and he knows she despises him, but he follows her anyway. and he gets to see her. he sees her attempts to awaken her sealing power, he sees her studying the ancient tech, and he sees her friendship with impa & purah. he sees how she is so strong regarding her mother’s death.
again, he can’t help but remember that superficial crush - the kind that one might have on an actress - and it grows. it festers, taking root like a plant in his heart and growing out of control. he doesn’t want to control it. but he keeps it firm in there, because his duty is to his country, his duty is to protect. it isn’t his duty to fall in love.
what happens when a knight falls out of line? he doesn’t want to know. so he keeps quiet. he keeps it buried. and he has one more reason to do his job right. one day she’ll marry, and it probably won’t be to him. he’s a common knight, and she’s a princess. when he throws himself in front of the blades of the yiga, he had no idea that she’d fallen, too.

Wild stares up at Twilight, eyes wide. His heart pounds double time, trying to escape his chest. Every muscle in his wings is tense where they’re crushed beneath him. Yet Twilight’s arm, while keeping him in place, is gentle.
“Breathe,” Twilight whispers.
Right. The magpie pulls in a stuttering breath. The snow is cold on his shoulder blades where it presses around his winter gear. He focuses on breathing, keeping a steady count. Slowly, the racing of his heart starts to even out.
His nose is full of the crisp scent of snow and wet woods. It reminds him of his Hyrule, traveling with Dusk at his side. The wolf…is Twilight, either in the future or the past. He trusted his friend as part of his flock.
And now, Twilight watches him carefully. He doesn’t push Wild for attention, although it’s clear he’d be happy to have more of it. He lends out his wings when the magpie wants somewhere to hide and doesn’t complain when a threat call drives him away.
The rancher is soft and caring. He thrives on stability in the flock, happy to follow Time’s lead. He’s nothing like the yiga raptors Wild encountered.
Bracing his hands in the snow, Wild pushes up. Twilight lets him, pulling back to sit on his heels. The hawk’s wings go limp in the snow, feathers dusted in white.
“Would you like me to stay away from you?” Twilight asks. “Because I can, if it makes you comfortable. I can stay as far away as I can in the flock.”
When Wild looks at him, there’s only deep caring for a flockmate, tinged with loss. Twilight is a social raptor; probably the most social the champion has ever met. Yet he’s willing to sacrifice that bond to keep him comfortable.
Wild makes his decision. He lets it settle into his bones and feathers; bandaging his heart.
“No. I don’t want you to stay away.” He gives the rancher a smile, small, but real. “I trust you, Twilight.” Flockmate, he trills and gives their flock call.
Twilight answers promptly. Love you, care for you, keep you safe, he adds at the end.
Trust you, love you, flockmate! he answers.
The hawk breaks into a grin, wings raising from where they droop.
Wild takes a deep breath and, for the first time since joining the Chain, hugs Twilight without a single pang of fear in his heart.

King of the Gerudo- Chapter 1: Forgotten Foundation
Summary: it’s been three years since Calamity Ganon attacked Hyrule, and everyone was recovering well from it. Until the strange substance gloom appeared, making people sick when they touched it. Wanting to find answers, Zelda and the champions went beneath the castle against her father’s wishes to try to solve the problem. Meanwhile, the King of Hyrule hopes to use Impa’s help in interrogating master Kohga about the gloom, despite the Yiga leader knowing very little about it. Little did they all know, that a great threat was brewing beneath Hyrule castle, waiting for a seal to break.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was cold and damp as Zelda, Terrako, and the champions traveled underneath Hyrule castle, the light from her torch being the only thing illuminating the dark hallways. It was uncomfortably quiet as the group walked down the staircase, the strange gloomy substance floating through the air menacingly. Zelda studied it for a minute, her eyes narrowed as gloom danced in front of her. Strange…
“This gloom is rather misty down here,” she stated, reaching out to feel it phase through her fingers. It was soft, and didn’t seem to harm her as it went through her hand. She pulled her arm back and studied her fingers, which seemed untouched.
“Careful Zelda, people have been getting sick when they touch the gloom,” Urbosa warned, stepping down the stairs where Zelda was. The princess looked up at her and smiled.
“It’s alright, there doesn’t seem to be a high enough concentration of gloom down here to hurt us. I think we’ll be safe,” Zelda looked behind her as the rest of the champions walking down the stairs, all muttering quietly to themselves. She turned back at the darkness in front of her where Terrako watched cautiously and took a deep breath. “We’ll be safe for now.”
The princess of Hyrule continued to walk down the stairs, Urbosa and her little guardian friend following closely behind her. She heard Daruk grunting as he squeezed through the tight halls, and there was the occasional grumble from Revali, but overall the group was silent, which didn’t help Zelda’s nerves. As she reached a landing of the stairs, she heard Link quietly catch up to her, his stare intense as he looked down the hallways, the gloom seeming to get thicker.
“I didn’t realize how deep this goes,” Mipha muttered, mostly to herself. “It’s hard to believe that this has been down below Hyrule Castle this whole time.”
“Yes,” Zelda responded quietly. It was strange, she felt like she'd explored every inch of the castle as she studied and trained herself for the calamity. Finding new, untouched areas of the castle was surreal… and exciting. If only the gloom didn’t make the situation frightening. She continued on, moving past Link who was still staring, and almost stepped down the stairs when Urbosa stopped her.
“Something’s not right,” she said in a low voice, eyeing Link with an intense glare. Zelda gave Link a confused look, who had his brows pinched together, staring at Urbosa. The Gerudo chief gestured to his sword, and Zelda gasped.
“Your sword, Link! It’s glowing!” She exclaimed, walking closer to the hero who had the master sword out, studying the glowing blade. “That’s not a good sign… Something is up ahead, we should proceed with caution.”
“Why don’t you stay back while we continue further,” Mipha suggested. “It might be too dangerous for you.”
“I’ll be fine, Mipha, I want to get to the bottom of this.” Zelda turned and continued onward, not allowing Mipha to argue any further. As the group walked, Zelda couldn’t help but study the walls and ground around her. She remembered her father telling her to stay away from beneath the castle, that generations before her were strictly given orders to leave it be, meaning that everything she was seeing was being seen for the first time in centuries. Though there has been nothing special about the halls they were traveling, she couldn’t help but feel giddy over being the first person in centuries to see it. She wondered what they would find down here.
Soon the group reached a long hallway with pillars and statues she'd never seen before. She gasped and jogged to one of the statues, admiring the sheer size and workmanship of it. They seemed to be resembling a creature with a long neck and big ears. Could it be…?
“Zelda!” Urbosa and Link ran up to her. “Don’t run off like that! We don’t know what’s down here!”
“Apologies, Urbosa, but just look at this!” Zelda took out her Sheikah slate and began taking pictures of the statues. “I believe this may be a Zonai!”
“A Zonai?”
“A Zonai! I read about them in my studies, and it was believed that they possessed godlike powers and descended from the heavens!” Zelda moved to the side to get a new angle on the statue, the champions watching her patiently as she took pictures. “Look at those ears! They kind of look like us, don’t they?”
“Give or take a few features,” Revali muttered, studying the statue intently. Zelda giggled and took one more picture before looking at the other statues and ruins in front of her. She frowned and walked towards a fallen pillar.
“They were descended from the sky… but why are their ruins underneath the castle?” She wondered, tracing her fingers along the cold and bumpy stone. She finally stood up and walked to the doorway, with the champions following her. As soon as she crossed the doorway, however, two keese ambushed her, and she yelped as she jumped back from them. Link sprinted towards the monsters, killing them in seconds, with Terrako giving angry beeps at the dead monsters.
“Are you alright?” Mipha asked worriedly, and Zelda waved her hand.
“Oh I’m alright, just a little startled,” she breathed, laughing slightly.
“It’s bad enough that we’re disobeying the king’s orders to stay away from here, the last thing we need is for his daughter to get injured,” Revali said, crossing his wings in front of his chest. Zelda laughed nervously and scratched the back of her head.
“Sorry, I’ll try to be more careful.”
Revali’s glare softened and he rolled his eyes. Daruk let out a sigh of relief as he squeezed through the doorway, stretching his arms above his head.
“Thank Din, a big room!” He cheered, nearly smacking Revali as his arms fell.
“Watch it!” He shouted, and Daruk simply chuckled carelessly. Zelda smiled at the two and glanced at the wall in front of her. It wasn’t like the rest of the walls, and she jogged towards them, straining her neck to look at them fully.
“Why, what is this?” Zelda gasped as she moved her torch to see better. In front of her were murals etched into the walls, the style similar to the Sheikah murals of the calamity she’s seen so many times. A figure stood out to her, it resembling the Zonai statues from the other room, with seven strange shapes floating around it. She took a step back and looked at the whole thing. “Why, this must be the written history of Hyrule!” she exclaimed, pulling out her sheikah slate again and beginning to take pictures, worry making way for excitement as she clicked. “Look! The Zonai were descended from the heavens! And they appeared to have bonded with the Hylians and found Hyrule!” Zelda took a picture of the Zonai and Hylian figure holding hands and she glanced over at something far more ominous. A large imposing figure stood over the Hylian, with the strange shape floating above them. Figures of monsters and the evil figure were shown to be attacking Hylians, with it ending with the Zonai fighting back. Zelda gasped at the realization at what this meant. “This not only shows the founding of Hyrule, but it shows a great battle the young kingdom faced! Of course! It all fits my studies! This shows the great war… the imprisoning war!” Zelda spun around to face the champions, a huge smile on her face. “We have seen history that’s been lost to time! This is a huge discovery!”
The only champions that were listening to her ramblings were Urbosa and Mipha, who were politely and patiently watching her. Link, Revali, and Daruk were simply arguing with Terrako running circles around them.
“Oh! Uh…” Zelda looked down awkwardly, putting her sheikah slate away. “Apologies, I got quite excited back there. No reason to waste time with these murals…”
“No, princess, it is quite fascinating!” Mipha said, joining Zelda’s side and looking up at the mural. “That beast the Zonai is fighting, it looks to be calamity Ganon, doesn’t it?”
Zelda smiled slightly. “Yes, but it’s not Ganon. Apparently that beast was the demon king who stole power from Hyrule…”
Mipha hummed. “I wonder who the Demon king was. There’s not a lot about him.”
“No… there’s not.” Zelda continued to stare at the murals, and her eyes traveled to the rest of the wall, which was blocked off by rock. “It seems the rest of it is blocked…”
Urbosa walked up to the two princesses and stared at the rocks. She turned around to the men who continued to argue. “Daruk! Get over here!”
The argument ended abruptly and the goron champion trotted towards the group. “What’s going on? Is everything ok?” He asked, and Zelda giggled.
“Destroy this rock, Zelda wants to see the rest of the mural.”
“On it!” Daruk pulled out his weapon and walked closer to the rock, but Zelda realized something.
“Wait! You might destroy the mural behind the rocks!” She shouted, running to Daruk. “We’ll need to carefully remove the rocks if we don’t want to damage it. This is a priceless piece afterall.”
“Oh,” Daruk stepped back and put his weapon away, a disappointed frown on his face. Urbosa turned to Link and Revali, who were now staring silently away from the group.
“Link, you’re handy aren’t you? Remove this rock,” she ordered, but Zelda shook her head.
“No, it’ll take too long to remove this rock. There are more important things to worry about right now,” Zelda stared at another doorway, dread beginning to rest within her stomach. “The mural can wait,” she said softly, walking to the doorway. She heard the shuffling of footsteps as the others followed her, the air around her only getting colder and thicker. The misty gloom turned into a fog, making it difficult for her to breath. The dread was getting worse, and she felt like she wanted to cry as she got deeper and deeper. Her legs were shaking terribly, and she needed to grab the wall in order to keep her balance, but she kept moving, with the champions following closely behind her. Finally, she reached the end, and she was met with a large open room covered in gloom, and in the middle was something she’s never seen before.
A person, rotten and decayed was being held by the chest of a glowing green arm, with green magic swirling from the top of it. Gloom poured out of the chest of the corpse, poisoning the room with its haze, and as Zelda looked further, the mouth of the corpse was open, as if it was screaming before it met its end. As Zelda cautiously stepped closer, the arm’s light began to flicker, and she gasped as it went dark and fell to the ground, causing a yellow stone to break from its bracelet, landing right in front of Zelda. She kneeled on the ground, picking up the strange stone. It felt warm in her hands, and the light was almost soothing. She felt something within her began to grow as she held it, and she traced the delicate etchings on the stone with her thumb.
“What is this…?” She started, when the corpse in front of her began to move. She jumped up and found herself pressed up against Urbosa, who had an intense glare as the corpse’s head began to twitch. The sickening crack of its bones filled the air, and its head suddenly turned to look at the group, glowing eyes full of malice appearing to stare back at them. Zelda felt her heart drop to her stomach and she instinctively moved further into Urbosa. Gloom suddenly shot out, aiming straight for the two. The princess let out a scream, bracing herself to be struck, but Link was in front of her, swiping at the gloom with the master sword. It retreated for a moment, until it shot out again. Time slowed as Link swiped again, and the glowing sword that sealed darkness away shattered into pieces, one shard slicing the corpse’s cheek. Link let out a pained cry as the gloom suddenly covered his arm entirely.
“LINK!” Zelda shouted, catching him before he crumpled to the ground. Mipha was at his side in seconds, and the champions stared at the corpse as it began to rise.
“Was that the sword that seals the darkness?” Its raspy voice echoed through the room, the malice filled eyes never leaving Zelda’s. “That sword shattered under a fraction of my power, Rauru placed his faith in you, and that was all you could do?”
The creature was standing straight now, it towering over the group. Link began to get on his knees, panting in pain as he glared at the corpse, but its eyes stayed on Zelda, and it began to laugh. A sick and uncanny laugh that echoed through the room.
“Zelda,” It said, its rotten mouth curling into a smile, and the princess whimpered. “It’s been a long time…”
“H-how do you know my name?” Zelda asked, her voice shaking uncontrollably. The corpse smiled at her, making her feel alone despite being surrounded by the champions. Its arms were brought to its chest, where high amounts of gloom suddenly swirled in front of it. Gloom was shot at the ceiling, causing the ground to shake violently. Zelda couldn’t see anything, she couldn’t breathe, and she didn’t know if she was still near the champions. She heard the distressed cries of Terrako near her, and she hugged the guardian tightly as she searched for the champions. She heard the cries of them as the ceiling began to rise, and she crawled across the ground with Terrako in her arms, but the ground beneath her suddenly gave way, and she let out a yell as she and the guardian plummeted towards the darkness below.
“ZELDA!” She heard someone cry, and she saw Link reaching out to her, his decaying and broken arm reaching for her, but it missed. Zelda screamed as she plummeted, desperately reaching for something, anything, that could catch her. She felt a warm tingling coming from the stone she still had clutched in her hand, and warmth surrounded her whole being. As she stared at the helpless champions, a bright light appeared in her vision, a dizziness overcame her, and then there was nothing but darkness.
