Lord, her BET look last year…whew. Her strut, her “crazy in Love” caption, and then finding out a certain London Boy had touched down…I mean!?! Him getting photographed picking up ice cream at her favorite shop while she was there, when we know he doesn’t even like ice cream. She dipped from that show and went straight home to eat. That had to be a wild day for anyone in their orbit, because she was smoldering in that dress, and the photo shoot was at her house, where we know he was probably watching. 👀 Anyone speculating they are boring….doesn’t have eyes. She was sexy as hell that day and had a bounce in her step…..
Whew!!!! YAAAASS Girl!👏 That BET Awards dress was FIRE! 🔥🔥
How can we forget it?? "Crazy in love" indeed! 😅🤣
Let's reminisce shall we??

« Known globally for highly stylized genre films depicting the gritty underbelly of society with brutal violence and crimes, South Korean cinema was long characterized by what one film critic famously called “dark blue filter thrillers” mostly made by and starring men. If women appeared at all, it was often as one-dimensional clichés, serving as plot devices like a femme fatale, a murder or rape victim, an innocent lover or wife, or a self-sacrificing mother.
To challenge this norm and support women filmmakers, some women started to not only watch female-driven films but also buy more tickets than they could even use for such movies in a campaign called “spirit-sending”— meaning they would be at the theaters in spirit. The campaign turned a surefire box-office disaster to an award-winning hit, saving the career of a rare female director.
“It was truly a miracle,” Lee Ji-Won said of Miss Baek, her 2018 debut film about a female former convict trying to save a little girl from abusive parents. The drama, which portrays the friendship between two abuse survivors, was such a rarity in an industry dominated by what Lee called “films with cops, gangsters, naked women, or rom-coms” that it was snubbed by almost all investors and distributors. One investor promised to fund it only if Lee changed the lead character to a man. Another bet that “the disaster-in-waiting” would perish in cinemas in a week—a warning that almost materialized, as the film’s opening-day sales were so poor that it was projected to sell less than a quarter of the tickets required just to break even.
“Everybody, myself included, was so sure that the movie would crash and burn, and my career was over—until weird things started to happen on social media,” Lee told me.
Impressed by the rare women-led film with complex female characters, made by an even rarer woman director, many women watched it again and again, buying tickets even when they couldn’t attend. Ticket sales rebounded sharply as #SendingSpirit became a viral hashtag that continued for months until the film broke even. Miss Baek eventually won rave reviews and swept major awards, and the same investors who’d once snubbed Lee began to court her, begging to see her scripts.
“The gesture of solidarity by all these women was just overwhelming,” Lee said, wiping away tears. “They, like me, were so thirsty for movies portraying women as complex, multidimensional human beings.” In 2021, she finished shooting her second movie, featuring some of the country’s biggest stars.
The “spirit-sending” campaign lived on to drive the success of other women-led movies, like the film adaptation of Kim Ji-Young, Born 1982, allowing such films to defy the boycott campaigns that often targeted “feminism-stained movies.” While the film was hit by thousands of 0 percent ratings even before its official release (causing a vast gender disparity in its ratings on the top web portal—2.99 among men and 9.45 among women), Kim Ji-Young eventually became a hit watched by millions at home. Female-driven movies have grown in numbers and ticket sales since, led by a new generation of filmmakers like Lee and some male filmmakers as well. »

Euphoria filming might be long but people forget how much time off Z used to have because unlike Tom with TCR, she's not in all the scenes. There are so many side characters and stories that don't involve Rue (and I think even more now because of the time jump and being out of high school I believe she'll be interacting less with the other characters and have her own thing going on with the people on her side of the story like her mom, sister and jules). But in 2021 She was able to do so many other things while working on Euphoria like going to the Venice film festival and promoting Dune in Europe, she was even doing some of Spidey promo and went to the Space jam premiere, the Oscars, BET awards, CFDA, the wedding, small vacation with Tom, Photoshoots, filmed campains for her brands, used to go to Oakland every other week etc ... etc...
she will go to the airport with her rue converse hanging on by a thread if she has to

21. what is your favourite f1-related quote?
ooooh this one is hard and I'm sure that when I'll have answered and posted it I'll think about more quotes that I could've said
this was actually the worst (and best) question you could ask me haha (and yes I'm absolutely gonna make it about Charles ofc)
Ok so first one non-Charles related quotes that I love is :
The marks I left on track will stay until time and rain will wash them away - Sebastian Vettel in his retirement speech
Now for the others, I can't choose so I'll put a selection of quotes from Charles that might just might turn me a tiny bit insane 🤏 Red string of fate, childhood dreams and all that :
What was Ferrari for me before I got there? An unreachable dream. So when I look at myself in red today, I am not only proud of it. It is still, every day, a total emotion. - Charles Leclerc in 2021
The red car, even before I knew it was called Ferrari. It was my magnificent obsession - Charles Leclerc to La Gazzetta in 2020
It's been a dream since a child to drive for the red cars - Charles Leclerc to BBC Sport in 2018
From my side, I'm in red, I thought it's obvious how much I love Ferrari and how much I want to come back winning with Ferrari. So from that side, that's not much more to say, to me it's very clear - Charles Leclerc to Sky Italia in Jeddah in 2023
Qui o altrove, io punto sempre sul rosso Here or elsewhere, I always bet on the red - Charles Leclerc in Las Vegas in 2023 to Sky Italia
I don't even remember what we were talking about because all I could focus on was his [Schumacher] red suit. I never thought I would one day drive for the red team. - Charles Leclerc in 2023 recalling meeting Schumacher when he was karting
When I was 3, even though I didn't know it was Ferrari, I always chose the red car. My dream is to drive for the Scuderia one day, I can't hide it. - Charles Leclerc in 2018
The power of dreaming? There's nothing that will take it away from me till the end. I still believe - Charles Leclerc to Sky Italia (in Baku 2023?)
From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed, victory is on my mind - Charles Leclerc to GQ France in 2023
| don't dream often at night but I daydream a lot, and my dream is to become world champion. It's a fixed thought in my head. - Charles Leclerc, Caschi d'Oro 2022, Autosprint Awards
I would tell him [young Charles] to keep on dreaming, to always aim for the stars, to have determination and patience, because at times I have not been merciful towards myself. But you can't forget that this is a job but also a sport. And that to be really happy, you have to love what you are and what you do!" - Charles Leclerc to Italy’s DLui Magazine in 2021
At every start of the season, until F2, my grandmother used to take my race suits, remove one of the sponsor logos and sew a little cross instead of it. Now grandma is gone, I can't sew and the ritual is over. I was thinking about keeping a lucky charm in my pocket but then I thought to myself: if you need an object [to feel better], then you are missing something on the mental aspect, so I let it go. - Charles Leclerc to La Stampa (in 2021 ?)
and finally, finally that quote :
lo in gabbia? Beh, se essere in gabbia vuol dire essere in Ferrari, voglio essere in gabbia tutta la vita… Guidare per la Ferrari è un onore, anche nei momenti difficili, come ho detto sono ottimista, voglio spingere il team in un momento difficile come questo. Me? In a cage? If being in a cage equals being in Ferrari, then I would like to be in a cage for my entire life… To race for Ferrari is an honor, even in the most difficult moments. As I said, I am an optimist - I want to steer the team through these hard times. - Charles Leclerc in 2020
Ok I need to stop I think T-T I'm deeply sorry this is way too long 🫣 it has very much turned into a compilation
EDIT: two special mentions that I had forgotten to quote
See you soon unforgettable Monza - Charles Leclerc in 2023 after Monza to La Republica
Monaco I love you and hopefully one day you will love me back - Charles Leclerc on twitter in 2021 after Monaco
EDIT N°2
Amo la Ferrari, resterò a lungo. Mai dubitato del mio talento. There are a thousand [good reasons to stay with Ferrari]. I have always been a tifoso, I have always loved her. That is already reason enough. - Charles Leclerc to La Stampa in 2023
Ferrari means everything to me. The dream of being part of this team started when I was three and half years old. I watched my first race in Monaco searching for the red car and dreaming of being a Formula 1 driver for Ferrari one day. Ferrari believed in me. They helped me to get a place in Formula 1. It's just incredible to be representing those colors all around the world because we got so much support which is an incredible honor for me to be part of this team that now became a family. This sport has taken such a big place in my life: to win a championship with Ferrari is my ultimate dream and I'II do absolutely everything in order for this to happen. Now, my own dream remains: a dream that writes itself in red. Tifosi, the dream continues. - Charles Leclerc during the video announcing his renewal after 2024 with Ferrari on January, 25th 2024 on instagram.
F1 is definitely about the poetry and the lore, the mythology and the legends ✨

Peek into the eclectic wardrobe of one of the world’s most popular singer-songwriters at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)’s latest exhibit, Taylor Swift: Storyteller, opening Saturday at Columbus Circle.
The retrospective showcases decades of Swift’s costumes, props, jewelry and other visual elements from the 12-time Grammy Award-winning musician’s prolific career, including the highly recognizable ballerina and cheerleader ensembles from 2014’s Shake it Off , the gem-adorned one-piece from 2022’s Bejeweled and the striking Nicole + Felicia red wedding dress from 2021’s I Bet You Think About Me — all selected by MAD’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Craft, and Design Alexandra Schwartz.
Swift’s team reached out to Alexandra after seeing the work done by fellow curator Elissa Auther with artist Machine Dazzle on his Queer Maximalism exhibit, but she admits that she wasn’t intimately familiar with Swift’s catalog prior to working on Storyteller. “I knew her big hits, but I didn’t know her work all that well,” Alexandra told W42ST. “I have learned a lot in this process — it’s been fascinating getting to see how she’s developed as an artist and in addition to her songwriting, learn that she’s such a brilliant business person who has navigated combining that songwriting and artistry with being this incredibly successful performer.”
After working on 2022’s Garmenting: Costume as Contemporary Art at MAD, the curator had a robust working framework with which to tackle Swift’s large catalog of designs. “In Garmenting, we were coming at it from the perspective of artists rather than designers,” said Alexandra. “I teach part-time at the Fashion Institute of Technology and I got to know fashion history and theory and learned about curating fashion through that exhibit’s experience.” She added, “I’m fascinated by how clothes are part of our culture — not just in terms of the choices that we make about what we wear, but what they mean on a broader societal level and what they say about contemporary culture.”
Swift’s reputation for integrating visual storytelling into her music videos, red carpet appearances and concerts was an inspiration and Alexandra found plenty of symbolic messaging in the songwriter’s clothing choices. ”She creates an entire world through her work,” said Alexandra. “Her videos are these very complete thought-out worlds she’s created and her performances are as well — her garments and her costumes are a huge part of that. She’s very, very intentional about what she wears in performance, how those garments help to tell a story.”
For Swift, “the element of fantasy is really important and enticing and fun — but what’s been interesting in working on this show is that she really does see all of her different creative endeavors: the videos, the design, the costumes, as a part of her songwriting and her storytelling craft as a songwriter,” said Alexandra.
Swift also loves to leave hidden messages for her notoriously eagle-eyed fanbase.”She’s famous for her Easter eggs,” said Alexandra, “and it is very interesting how she’ll refer back to other times in her career and her storytelling through her songs.” She added, “One thing that I find interesting about her, and she’s talked about this herself, is that she is very aware that as a performer, and especially as a female performer she has to always change her image to capture people’s attentions, keep them interested and keep them thinking about her music in a different way. I think a lot of her costumes and her videos show that sort of self-awareness.”
Tumblr media
Swift’s tendency to keep fans guessing extends to her choices in designer, added Alexandra. “There are quite a few costumes by Jessica Jones, who works with many different performers,” she said, “but what she wears in performance varies. Some costumes are by couture fashion designers, like the Versace and Marchesa, but then she’ll wear faux fur jacket by Free People mixed with Louis Vuitton boots — it’s interesting to see how she combines things.”
After studying the singer’s catalog and costumes, Alexandra gained a newfound appreciation for Swift’s creative process and impact on global audiences. “Seeing the craftmanship of the costumes is incredible,” she said, “It’s a treat to see all the embroidering and decoration and beading on these pieces up close.”
As Taylor Swift: Storyteller readies for opening, Alexandra can’t wait to welcome passionate Swifties to the exhibit. “It’s going to be fascinating to see,” she replied. “It’s been great already to see the buzz about it and hear about people who are planning to come to New York to see the exhibit. I’ve just gotten to know the Swiftie community in the last couple of months and it’s intense!” she laughed. “It’s very exciting that so many fans are going to be here and I really hope they enjoy it!”

Tumblr media
Marcus is a self-proclaimed "lover not a fighter". He's known to be very friendly and approachable, with a significant portion of the Formula 2 grid mentioning that he was the driver they got on with best in the paddock during his time there. His results in F2 were mixed, moving teams in 3 successive years, as he sometimes had difficulty getting to grips with the F2 car and tyres, however it’s generally agreed that his midfield championship positions during his F2 tenure aren’t an accurate reflection of his genuine ability and talent. Multiple Ganassi team members (including the boss) have commented on how impressed they are by his raw speed, work ethic, and attitude since his arrival in IndyCar. Marcus himself has already talked about how much more enjoyable the Indy car is to drive and how much fun he’s having now after several years of struggling with the notoriously difficult F2 car. He also appears to be getting on well with his CGR teammates and in particular has talked about how much he likes Marcus Ericsson.
He moved to London in early 2022 after spending several years living near Ferrari’s HQ in Maranello, Italy, and is known to enjoy city nightlife, being a big fan of wine. He’s a major foodie who likes taking photos of good food almost as much as he enjoys complaining about bad food. He is known to be determined to the point of stubbornness, causing himself permanent damage to his knee during a half-marathon due to refusing to stop when he was in pain. He had a low attendance record at school due to focusing on his racing career and moving to Europe at the age of 14, and as such, although he’s not unintelligent he’s known to be somewhat lacking in general knowledge (such as thinking Shakespeare’s first name was Michael). However, he has the characteristically Kiwi dry, sarcastic sense of humor and very much enjoys mutual teasing and banter with his close friends, something that’s often on display in the Screaming Meals podcasts.
Tumblr media
Fanfic Lore
Usually paired with Callum Ilott, or F2 driver Clement Novalak due to their extremely close and physically affectionate friendship - was Clem’s teammate during their karting days, and has said that they talk every day while he’s in the US Likes to tease Callum and wind him up to his face, but often calls him his best mate and praises him when he’s not around. However Callum rarely (if ever) reciprocates the latter, probably due to his intense Britishness Good friends with multiple drivers from various series, including Juan Manuel Correa, Jüri Vips, Guanyu Zhou, Nick Cassidy, Max Fewtrell and Felipe Drugovich Also has a tendency to “adopt” younger drivers and refer to them as “little bro”, including Jak Crawford and Dino Beganovic Has said on several occasions that he doesn’t wear underwear, and also shaves his legs (and possibly elsewhere, having claimed that he is “hairless from the eyebrows down”) Claims he can’t tell the difference between someone being nice to him and someone flirting with him

looking back this was a really great day.
zendaya looked amazing in this dress for the 2021 bet awards! the legs! 🥵 made me melt~ 🫠 she said so much just by bringing out this iconic beyoncé crazy in love look. (if we got into the lyrics of that song and applied it to her and tom at this time… and even now..)
everything that happened after this look debuted was crazy too. who would've thought? not me 😅
Tumblr media

part 16 / previous installments/tags
The news about Connor breaks before world juniors. The tone of the draft year coverage immediately shifts. Before, Connor was undersized but built for hockey. Now Connor’s too short to stick as an NHL centre. Before, Connor was the undisputed 1OA. Now mock drafts are showing Fantilli or Carlsson going first. When Connor tries a lacrosse goal in Canada’s embarrassing loss in their opening game, suddenly there’s a bunch of hot takes about whether Canada can win with omegas on the team.
Mason’s furious about it. He watches every game, willing Canada on. Willing Connor on. Trevor tries to talk some shit and ends up baiting Mason into a bet. “When USA wins you have to wear my jersey for arrivals,” Trevor grins at him, crinkle-eyed, obviously not taking this seriously at all. “Or the other way around.”
“Yeah, it’s fucking on,” Mason growls at him. Canada’s going to pull this off, with Connor leading the way. Mason’s not going to have to wear a goddamned Team USA jersey. Trevor’s probably wouldn’t even fit him anyway.
Mason leaves Connor a screaming unhinged voice note after Connor wins the quarterfinals in OT with the slickest goal Mason’s ever seen. And then they win the whole thing, and Connor gets the same MVP award Mason got last summer, and Mason’s so unbearably proud of him it’s easy to focus on that and not on Adam Fantilli or whatever alphas Connor might be playing alongside.
Especially since Connor’s rooming with Zelly. No worries there. doesn’t steal my bars, Connor texts him, but he probably doesn’t know the capital of France. It’s one of the only texts Mason gets during the tournament. Connor’s busy.
The day after Canada wins gold, Trevor reminds Mason to bring his jersey to the game. “Gotta pay up,” he laughs, like it’s no big deal.
As Mason takes his jersey from world juniors off its hanger on his wall, he considers forgetting it instead. Absolving Trevor. But a bet’s a bet. And Trevor doesn’t give a shit anyway, laughing his fool head off about it when he meets Mason at parking to pull Mason’s jersey on over his gameday suit. Mason gamely mugs for the camera as they walk in, but he’s glad to reclaim his jersey and hang it safely in his street locker.
After the game, as they’re getting ready to go out, Trevor reaches in and snatches it off its hook. He starts to tug it over his head. Mason yanks on the sleeve to stop his momentum. “What the hell?”
“Just for fun.” Trevor pops his face through the neck of Mason's jersey, grinning his stupid grin.
Mason’s not going to get into a tug of war with a bratty omega. “Are you going to make him stop?” he asks Jamie instead.
“It’s not a big deal.” Jamie blinks his mild eyes earnestly at Mason. ‘He’s having fun, and it doesn’t bother me, so you don’t have to worry.”
Mason tries to unclench his fists. If Trevor’s mate doesn’t mind him wearing another alpha’s jersey, unbonded Mason doesn’t have any room to complain. It’s not like Mason even wants to see Connor wearing his jersey. He likes Connor in his own Canada jersey, side by side with Mason. Winning together.
When Jamie makes him pose for a picture at the restaurant, Mason wonders if Connor will see. But he never hears anything from Connor about it.
[never forget that this bet is canon]
The hot takes don’t stop after Connor torches world juniors. Dom at The Athletic comes up with a model to analyze the value of presented omega prospects compared to other prospects. The story includes an analysis of Jack Hughes’ performance and how his stats exploded partway through the 2021-22 season after it came out that he and Nico Hischer were bonded.
Mason hates the suggestion that Connor needs an alpha to play his best hockey. Connor can handle himself. Nobody knows that better than Mason.
Shayna Goldman writes a companion piece examining five different bottom-feeder teams as potential destinations for Connor Bedard based on their unbonded alphas. Mason skims it and of course his own shitty team is on there. The story notes that Anaheim’s short on alphas, with only Commer and Fowler left after Verbeek sold everyone off last spring, so he’s probably not going to take a chance on an omega in the 2023 draft.
A week later, Shayna retweets a link to the story with this:
Rumor has it there’s another alpha who’s presented in sunny SoCal, and Team Canada says he’s got great chemistry with a possible 1OA pick. xoxo
It’s stupid to hope that Connor will get drafted to Anaheim and everything will be okay. But Mason hopes anyway. Connor on his line forever, the two of them putting this lousy franchise on their backs and dragging it into a new era. Connor, living in Anaheim, his draft year behind him, finally eighteen. Mason could finally tell him everything.
As the season rolls on and the Ducks get worse and worse, he texts Connor after especially bad games with a joke about the draft lottery. Sometimes Connor responds. Sometimes he doesn’t.

Report: Eddie Redmayne’s lengthy commitment to Cabaret on Broadway — and its whopping budget
Tumblr media
A exclusive report today from Philip Boroff and his Broadway Journal says Eddie Redmayne is committing to an expensive New York production of Cabaret for six months. ‘CABARET’ IS COSTLIEST BROADWAY REVIVAL
by Philip Boroff
EXCLUSIVE: Investing in Cabaret  at the August Wilson Theatre this spring might seem like a safe bet, after the success of the Kander & Ebb classic in London and earlier productions in New York.
That's until you see the price tag: $24.25 million, a record for a Broadway revival.
Broadway Journal reviewed a preliminary budget and recoupment chart for the transfer from the West End, which is being presented by the multinational theater operator and producer Ambassador Theatre Group and U.K.-based Underbelly, which creates shows and festivals. Tony and Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Kit Kat Club emcee on Broadway.
Revivals of musicals by John Kander and Fred Ebb have been golden on Broadway, particularly the concert version of Chicago, now in its 27th year; and two Roundabout Theatre Co. engagements of Cabaret. This production, which follows several new musicals into the financial stratosphere, needs to be a smash to repay investors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cabaret‘s largest line item is its $9.4 million physical production. That includes millions from investors to transform the August Wilson into a Weimar-era nightclub, designed by Tom Scutt, where the show will be performed for an audience of about 1050. (There’s also a pre-show with actors and musicians interacting with the audience.) Another $1.5 million is allocated for a “refurbishment reserve,” presumably for cost overruns. A production spokesman declined to comment for this story.
For the 2021 premiere, Ambassador Theatre Group paid most of the expense of renovating London’s Playhouse Theatre (where the show’s performed in the round), someone familiar with the production said. As is standard in the industry, backers benefit from the sale of tickets but don’t share in revenue from drinks or food.
The New York production is what’s known as a related-party transaction: ATG is both producer and landlord. It recently bought a majority stake in the August Wilson along with Jujamcyn Theaters’ four other Broadway venues.
One of the busiest players on Broadway, ATG and subsidiary Sonia Friedman Productions are producing four of the 16 plays and musicals opening this season through December: The Shark is Broken, Gutenberg! The Musical!, Merrily We Roll Along and Appropriate (with Second Stage Theater). It’s controlled by Providence Equity Partners, a mammoth private equity manager that buys companies with the eventual aim of reselling them at a profit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cabaret must thrive to survive, requiring a weekly $1.2 million at the box office to pay its bills. That’s one of the biggest nuts on Broadway, even more than the time-travel spectacle Back to the Future projected in its recoupment chart. Back to the Future‘s home, the Winter Garden Theatre, has about 50 percent more seats than the reconfigured August Wilson, which will lose about 200 seats in the renovation.
Investing may be most appealing for patrons who prioritize backing a prestigious and artful show (and a leading Tony contender) over return on investment. Rebecca Frecknall’s dark revival won seven Olivier Awards last year in London, including for Redmayne. He’s committed to reprising his role for six months, two people familiar with the production said. ATG and Underbelly haven’t disclosed details about the transfer, including casting.
When it opened in London in 2021, Cabaret got flak on social media for its prices, now as much as £375 (equivalent to about $465, which includes a light three-course meal and champagne). Producers have told investors that the show played to 96 percent occupancy through July, with the highest average ticket price in London.
Broadway seats may be costlier. The average ticket at 110 percent capacity of the August Wilson — i.e. with premium pricing — is projected to be $248. That’s approaching Hamilton in its peak years, when it was charging as much as $849 a ticket.
If Cabaret can command that $248 average and sell out — grossing $2.1 million a week — recoupment will take about a year. (Hamilton, which cost half as much as Cabaret and has low running costs, was distributing profits six months after opening night.)
By selling out with an average ticket of $176 — Sweeney Todd  territory — Cabaret‘s recoupment would take closer to two and a half years.  With an average ticket of $158 — $1.3 million a week — recoupment would take four and a half years. (Projections in this story are based on recouping $20.9 million, which excludes Cabaret‘s reserves, deposits and advances; and receiving a $3 million state production tax credit, which can take years to get to investors. If the show dips into reserves during construction or the run, recouping may take longer.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Musical revivals have gotten ever-pricier to produce, but none has approached Cabaret. For example, Sweeney Todd was capitalized at $14.5 million and appears to be on track to recoup later this fall, after about 33 weeks. Hello, Dolly! was capitalized at $16 million in 2017 (about $20 million today) and earned a small profit; last year’s $16.5 million Funny Girl  recouped and is expected to make a profit.
Shows that required extensive renovations have a mixed record. Most recently, Here Lies Love, the $22 million disco-themed historical drama around the corner from the August Wilson, is struggling at the box office; whereas Harry Potter appears to be enjoying a long life in ATG’s souped-up Lyric Theatre, after producers trimmed the two-part show to one. But it arrived from London at considerable expense. In addition to Harry Potter’s $35.5 million capitalization, ATG, which competed against other landlords for the play, spent tens of millions of dollars clearing out and renovating the Lyric, Michael Paulson reported in the New York Times.
Revivals are typically short-lived, Cabaret as well as Chicago being obvious exceptions. The Roundabout Cabaret revival directed by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall opened at the Henry Miller’s Theatre in 1998 and ran through 2004. It initially starred Alan Cumming, who stepped in again when the Roundabout revisited the revival in 2014.
Two decades ago, the Roundabout bought its revival’s most recent home, Studio 54. The nonprofit company, with help from the city of New York, paid $22.5 million for the real estate, which looks like a bargain today.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Cabaret is soon coming back to Broadway. Fans need not wait until 2024 to get a taste of Rebecca Frecknall's electrifying new production, however. You can come hear the music play alone in your room today!
The original London revival cast, led by Olivier Award winners Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckely, was captured live for the 2021 London Cast Recording, which is available to stream and purchase today!
This unique production of Cabaret opened in December 2021 to critical and audience acclaim, widely praised as the ultimate theatrical experience. In April 2022 the production won a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards, the most for any musical revival in Olivier history.
Below, BroadwayWorld's very own Richard Ridge checks in with Redmayne to discuss the epic role, and the thrill of listening to the acclaimed production as it was recorded live at the Kit Kat Club.
Tumblr media
I am so thrilled that you enjoyed it! When we put together this production, it was in the round, the audience was woven into the entire piece and their presence was everything. Recording it live and getting a sense of that atmosphere [was critical], particularly as the Emcee, in which everything is in response. One of the things I found extraordinary while prepping to play the character was that it's only when you have an audience that the other character is in the room. We recorded this right towards the end of our run, and by that point, every night was different. Had it been recorded on a different night, I bet it would be a completely different feel.
I love that it was recorded later in the run. It adds that extra little bit of everyone finding their characters. It's electric. And listening to it makes you feel like you are performing right there in our living rooms.
One of the joys of doing something for an extended period as an actor is getting to mine new things and find new things. Audiences are morphous beasts! They change every night. Particularly with this production, we would have people wearing black tie and tuxedos, then other people in fetish gear sitting alongside each other. It was a very inclusive audience filled with often very charismatic people. It gave us so much room to play. Every night felt vibrantly alive. It was important for us to try to register that for the recording.
John Kander and Fred Ebb are my favorite composers. What was it like singing their songs?
I first sang them when I was 15 years old. I did a school production of Cabaret. My parents always say to me that it was that moment they knew that I would aspire for a career on the stage. There is something so hypnotic and funny and witty and delightful and insightful about their music and lyrics.
When I was doing this show, it was at the end of COVID and sadly I did not get to meet John, but we've been in email contact. He has been so supportive of our production. This show was the dream for me. It was the piece that got me into theatre in many ways. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I'd get to do it on the West End stage.
The Emcee is such an iconic role... and you already won an Olivier for your performance!
I was talking to Rebecca Frecknall, our genius director, about this. She says that Cabaret is just one of those shows that directors want to direct. The Emcee is one of those parts that all actors want to play... because the role has so much meat on it that it allows for such individuality. I've been back to see every cast that has taken over in the London production. In one hand it's the same production, and on the other it's been amazing to watch it change and bend and sculpt over the years.
Tumblr media
What unlocked the "Eddie Redmayne Emcee" for you?
There was a moment early on when I was struggling because I was trying to be very literal. I really cared about the Sally-Emcee relationship and how there was an invisible cord that connected them. But on the page... they have no contact. There's nothing there textually. It was when I stopped trying to look for anything literal and started throwing clay at the wall and finding them through physicality... it was much more about releasing something and then refining it.
There is so much breaking of the fourth wall for this role. Did you have so much fun with that?
That was the bit I enjoyed the most- the moments of creeping amongst an audience. Putting my hand on a knee and watching them turn around and realize it's me. You never quite know where he will be. The idea of the uncanny and the unexpected was really important to me. I hoped that each audience member would leave with a different experience.
Was it so surreal for you getting to play this apart in the West End after doing it as a kid?
There were definitely imposter syndrome moments. Such icons like Joel [Grey] and Alan [Cumming] have played this part! I relished it every night though. But also getting to watch such formidable actors... on the recording, you get to hear Jessie Buckley, Liza Sadovy and Elliot Levey... They brought so much nuance and depth. The recording really captures that.
I love that this album captures that live feel. I don't think there has been this kind of live Cabaret captured before...
I feel really lucky that there is a rendition of our version to sit in the extraordinary [catalog of Cabaret recordings]. I listen to different Cabarets depending on the day! There are qualities in each of them that bring delight and fear! I hope that we can enter that group.
The West End revival of Cabaret will open on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in Spring 2024. Casting has not yet been announced.
Cabaret features the songs Wilkommen, Don’t Tell Mama, Mein Herr, Maybe This Time, Money and the title number. It has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, book by Joe Masteroff. Based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood.
Cabaret was last seen on Broadway when it returned to Studio 54 in 2014/15 starring Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams (later replaced by Emma Stone and Sienna Miller). The same production previously played the venue from 1998 to 2004. It originally premiered on Broadway in 1966.

Jack Antonoff produced both their albums- not sure if there was overlap 2021-early 2022. Apparently 1975 said Bo & TS review & liked their 1975 album (feat. Phoebe B) - released last summer. He also dated Halsey- TS friend. Met up at NME Awards 2/2020 - he wanted to collaborate with her (Zane Apple interview). https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/the-1975-matty-healy-taylor-swift-collab-lover-nme-awards-a9345666.html
He's from Cheshire area also- family has acting background. "In April 2023, Matty told a Brisbane audience that when he was fourteen, Welch's godfather, Ian La Frenais, based the (movie) Flushed Away rat, Roddy St. James, on Healy." Wikipedia Hmm, Emily's last name has also been shortened by others too. Satellite mv link?
Holy crap I think this article might prove that Matty helped produce Speak Now tv. He says he wanted to produce an acoustic country album with her. This is all making sense now. Why he was at the show when she announced Speak Now TV. He probably helped produce it. Nov. 15 Jack posted this on IG.

I bet they were working on Speak Now tv.
