Koklass Pheasant (Pucrasia macrolopha)

Habitat- Western Asia

Size (Weight/Length)- 1.4 kg; 60 cm

Diet- Nuts; Bamboo shoots; Seeds; Insects

Cool Facts- The koklass pheasant is a living fossil with its closest relatives dating back to the Miocene, resulting in these birds being a part of a unique genus. Unlike many species of gamebird, like turkeys and other pheasants, the koklass pheasant can fly for extended periods and over several miles. They are generally monogamous, although some females will mate with multiple males. Both mom and dad will raise the chicks for several months, teaching their offspring what foods to eat and what dangers to avoid. Koklass pheasants are popular hunting birds in Asia due to their relatively large size and beautiful plumage.

Okay I was wondering how they were going to do the Demeter Logs in today’s entry but it was great! The way it so briefly captured the horrors and emotions of the voyage without feeling too redundant was incredible! I don’t think I would have done it any other way!
