#At least Kiryu was pretty nice

Note
I'm actually wondering why Kiryu calls Majima "niisan". Like, it couldn't have come out of nowhere, right? It wasn't like they met and boom Kiryu immediately began to address him like that, there must be some reason for this. Because, he would have called Majima "aniki" if it was just "respect for the elder." For example, he called Kuze an aniki and this is both the "respect the elderly" and "respect for the who is above you in a rank". So in those years between '88 and '95, something definitely happened between these two.
Like, for example, in Ishin, when after all the events, Ryoma starts calling Okita "niisan" and he reacts like 😳huh?😳
no but you’re so right that’s such an interesting detail….. cause like. you could try and take it like how ryoma describes it in ishin (“you’ve saved my life so many times, that’s why you’re niisan to me” or something like that)– but in the mainline series that logic doesn’t make sense because like you said, he was calling majima “majima no niisan” before majima had ever saved his life (to our knowledge), and before really just… anything we know about that would constitute that kind of closeness/fondness.
so like. DID majima save his ass at some point (or multiple points) between 0 and 1? did they just get to know each other really well over that time for other reasons or simply because they liked one another?? they HAD to have had a significant amount of relationship development in that time and it drives me insane not knowing HOW.
it’s also interesting to note that kiryu doesn’t really use “no niisan” with anyone else of a similar age and rank for the most part, so there really has to be something about majima, and something about their relationship in general that’s different. I think part of what allowed their relationship to end up feeling so romantically coded in the first place is the fact that the extremely prevalent theme of brotherhood/familial bonds amongst yakuza has never felt like they apply to them– which is a stark contrast to most other close relationships kiryu has. So kiryu addressing him differently than most other guys in his life has always made it feel like their bond is… something else. but I digress.

The 3AM Stream Incident
SOOOhbkabgsjf i haven't done something like this in a while, but I just go so inspired over in the discord @majimasleftasscheek with the streamer!kiryu idea that i had to write SOMETHING and i really loved this idea we came up with so here's SOMETHING!!! username cameos are all people from the server!!
if i had to put it somewhere, something post yakuza 3 pre yakuza 4. in order to make money for the orphanage, haruka and the kids introduced him to this streaming thing. he wanted to engage in their interests, and has always enjoyed gaming deep down, the money aspect also helps out a lot. he's formed a relatively decent sized community, but has yet to go viral. the streamers are pretty laid back and the children's identities are protected, but thanks to the younger audience of streaming in general, the chat has taken to calling him 'uncle kaz' like the kids do when they call for him off screen.
this is. short and silly and i didn't go too hard on it, but i hope it's fun!! kazumaji implied cause it will be with everything i write.
Kiryu doesn't stream off schedule, not often at least. Life gets in the way sometimes, but he's never done this before. It's quiet in the orphanage, he doesn't want to disturb the kids... but he also can't sleep. Not actually worth anything, at least. It's another all nighter, one that hopefully he can recover from while the kids are at school tomorrow. Today. If there's one thing he's thinking about this isn't the various people haunting him... It's Pocket Circuit LIVE. He figures that was something more productive to be doing than just laying here.
His steps are quiet as he makes his way into the small room that had been built in the rebuilding process of Morning Glory. This room was even in the process of being sound proofed, a gift from Daigo that was hard to refuse. With the door shut, he could be a bit more comfortable with his movements.
Hopefully, not too many people in the chatroom are up either. He thinks he remembers hearing talk about finals during these months. Still, it'd be worth going live, people liked him for his ''chill vibes'' and ''comforting streams''. There was always a twinge of a pride even he knew was a bit goofy, compared to the other things he was proud of. Perhaps he could help them sleep, much like a bed time story... But to the sound of Pocket Circuit LIVE dailies.
When Kiryu hits the 'go live' button, he skips through his starting soon screen, going straight to his face cam and gameplay set up. As the game boots up, a bit slower than usual from having to do it while he's live, the first few messages start to pop up
macthedragon: ayo cosmomemory: ??? tabbitha44: damn this game got you by the throat uncle kaz
"Good evening, chatroom." Kiryu smiles at the messages, the exhaustion painfully clear in his eyes he's sure. "I'm surprised other people are up at this hour. I can't sleep, and I can be quiet during this game to not wake the kids. So long as I don't pull." He adds the addendum before anyone in chat could mention that.
Through his months of doing this, he's learned that many of these 'stream chatrooms' have a sort of 'culture' to them. Each streamer has a different kind of audience they cater to, but many share a back and forth dynamic with their 'chatroom'. It was more work than he had ever realized, it was an interesting new world he had begun to discover.
The motions now are practiced and fluid. Daily missions were a walk in the park. Use a new wheel, win a race without a balance frame, win a race with a golem tiger. As the races began to blend, Kiryu quietly talks with his delayed chatroom, "I don't think I'll be streaming tomorrow, I'll announce on my social media platforms in the morning if I will or won't."
aquaortus: twitter. you can say twitter looneyzune: be nice to him, he's not wrong
Kiryu knew full well he could say 'Twitter', but people seemed to like his antiquated way of saying things as much as it grated on them. It was much like with the children in the orphanage, in that way. The chat was significantly slower, but that was nice for him. He didn't directly talked to them, more so just began saying how his day was, it had been a nice day off, he just might need another.
esutonia: take all the time you need uncle kaz cosmomemory: we all could use one i think looneyzune: you deserve the time off, uncle kaz! macthedragon: please don't say you're leaving to get milk- aquaortus: going to sleep to this stream, gnight everyone
It was nice to see the messages of comfort in the corner of his eye, even as they began to talk amidst each other other than just with him. Of course, he quietly wished the viewers going to bed good night, which ended up being a few of them when an hour had passed. Less than 50 people were watching him at that point. There's a few points where he has to quiet down, hearing something shuffling outside of the room, and he has to make sure he didn't wake one of the children. Thankfully, no such incident happens, and he continues on with the quiet stream.
Quiet for a good while, but by hour two, something goes wrong. A name that he had expected to be gone from this stream popped up, marked with a green sword and bright pink text.
gorogorogorochan: Kiryu-chan what the fuck is this shit looneyzune: uh oh esutonia: SCATTER brahkest: uncle majima moment! it's so over
"M-Majima-!" Kiryu jumped at seeing that familiar name, the chatroom having a similar reaction. He looked to the door, knowing he was a good while away in a hotel, yes, but like he could be there at any moment. "I just couldn't sleep, so... Why am I not surprised you're up at this hour too." He truly should have expected this. "I'll only go for another hour. You should get some rest."
He looks at his quest list. Dailies are done, but weeklies are nearing completion. He could go ahead and knock those out now if he's going to take a break soon. Kiryu gets to it, settling back into the rhythm of the game he found so addicting.
gorogorogorochan: Are ya fuckin' kiddin' me gorogorogorochan: TEN MINUTES mrbeefgnaw: oh rip uncle kaz tabbitha44: h u h cosmomemory: it's so over looneyzune: ...has he noticed looneyzune: uncle kaz are you with us
With chat going so slow due to so few people, now less than 20, Kiryu didn't notice it. Pocket Circuit LIVE was too temping. He keeps good on his promise to not pull, but ten minutes have gone by without him really saying a word. He was both too tired and too engrossed in the menial yet fun activities of his favorite pass time.
brahkest: TIME IS UP: UNLEASE THE HOUNDS tabbitha44: what did he Mean by this macthedragon: he never realized omg.....
The questions as to what he had meant didn't go unanswered for long. Kiryu looked over at the chatroom, finally seeing the sudden activity, "Chatroom, did something-" And is cut off by the door to his room swinging open. It just barely is held back from slamming by a tired, haggard, and ticked off looking Majima. He blinks in surprise at his sudden appearance, standing up and taking the same headphones the man had gifted him off his head, "Majima? What are you-"
The next moment, Majima is charging him.
Kiryu barely manages to understand whats happening in the mere second he's given before Majima's long legs get him across the room. He's still taken to the ground in the next second, but he knows not to start fighting back by then. All the camera sees in a yellow and black blur, and then Kiryu going out of frame.
brahkest: UNCLE MAJIMA MOMENT!!!! mrbeefgnaw: oh rip lol looneyzune: UFBKSD cosmomemory: JHDFKSDG macthedragon: HJDKFJDFHLD tabbitha44: LMAOOOO estunia: JHFKDSFKESJB
The last thing the stream sees is a gloved hand slapping around on the table to find the keyboard, and when it's found, the stream is shut off.

Yakuza Headcanons: Watching Spooky Movies
Oooooo it's the spooky season ain't it. Hello hello I rise from the grave to bring you some fresh headcanons for the season. For those with asks still in the inbox, I SEE em, just been busy with my horror movie marathon. Anyways, some headcanons below da cut to tide you over. Also welcome bouncing baby boy Ichiban to the gang!
Kiryu Kazuma
Isn't scared easily by much of anything so it's really easy to get him to watch horror movies. Mostly watches them because someone else is too scared to watch them alone. He's the person they can hide behind or who will tell them when a particularly horrifying scene is over.
Gore doesn't bother him as much as something or someone looking creepy or offputting will. Kiryu still won't get scared but he will get uncomfortable. Most of the time he just reacts by going "Ah... oh!"
Fond of the classics and will gravitate towards movies with a strong and likable protagonist. Likes The Evil Dead, Aliens, and Halloween. Directors don't matter much to him.
Majima Goro
He's a mixed bag. If a movie is well put together, then it can scare him pretty easily. He's most scared of ghost stories or paranormal things. Least afraid of slashers because he thinks he could just beat them all up.
Cannot stand jump scares. Sometimes he evens yells at his TV at home in irritation, saying things like "Oi, whaddya keep makin' loud noises for? Sheesh!"
Honestly, the weirder the movie the better. It might seem stereotypical for someone who looks and acts like Majima but he thinks the whole point of horror is to be interesting. Fond of Takashi Miike movies like Ichi the Killer, Audition, and Over Your Dead Body.
Akiyama Shun
Doesn't watch a lot of movies because he totally falls asleep during most of them. He'll at least give it a shot if you ask nicely though. Honestly more motivated by the fact you might cling to him during the scary parts than anything.
As much as Akiyama is a total ladies' man and romantic at heart, he always laughs whenever characters start being intimate during horror movies. He makes jokes out of it, saying things like "Babe, would you still love me if we were in a spooky movie?"
Movies with a good soundtrack actually help him stay awake. Jump scares annoy him though because if he falls asleep, the noise makes him panic. Fond of monster movies or movies about animals like Jaws, Shin Godzilla, and The Host.
Saejima Taiga
Genuinely not scared of a single darn thing. If you want to watch it, he's down to give it at least a try. He might nod off if he's tired or bored, but he tries his best not to. Horror comedy is okay with him too although he might not get all the jokes.
Most of the time he sits with his arms crossed, paying full attention. He's kind of funny in that he makes noises like "Heh" or "Hmph" when a character is caught off guard by something. Makes an occasionaly "Tsk" sound at jump scares. Otherwise he's not reactionary.
Particularly fond of slashers, probably because those usually have villains that are actually kind of his size. He enjoys the Friday the 13th series, particularly Jason X.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Type of guy to be like "Ooh let's watch this, I heard it's really scary" and then proceed to either get scared out of his wits or say something like "Wait, that's ALL?" at the end. Bases most of his movie choices off of other people's recommendations since he's usually too busy to randomly go see however many movies he wants to.
Doesn't really like horror that's super in your face. Gets more scared by the tension itself than anything. Always has movie snacks on hand.
Found footage is probably his most favorite type of horror. Likes The Blair Witch Project, Noroi, and REC. Fond of director Koji Shiraishi.
Ryuji Goda
Doesn't watch a lot of horror movies but like Saejima he's not scared of anything. He's also the type of guy to drop everything to spend time watching a movie with his partner. Gets a kick out of being a shield or protector during scary parts.
Likes movies with a lot of personality and campiness. Slow burns or psychological thrillers just put him to sleep. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad, as long as it's entertaining.
Didn't think he'd end up being much of a horror fan but he's quite partial to John Carpenter. Likes The Thing, They Live, and Christine.
Nishikiyama Akira
One of the bigger scaredy cats of the group. Won't suggest a horror movie but will totally act like he's not at all afraid if you ask to see one.
Honestly, the two of you end up just kind of holding onto each other during scary parts or pulling up the blanket almost over your eyes when a character is about to die. Violence doesn't necessarily bother him but excessive gore kind of annoys him.
Enjoys a good ghost story movie but only if you'll watch it with him. Anthologies are also good too since it offers so much at once. Likes Ju-On, Ringu, and Tales From The Crypt.
Mine Yoshitaka
Likes certain horror movies. Not scared of much but he does get noticably uncomfortable with torture movies like Saw or Hostel. He just finds it to be weird more than entertaining.
Fond of more classic monsters like vampires or werewolves. Mine's the type of guy to actually have a decent home theater setup, even if he doesn't get much time to use it, so he doesn't go to the movie theater much.
Has a soft spot for some of the really old classics in the 30's like Frankenstein or Nosferatu. His favorite horror movie is Interview With The Vampire.
Daigo Dojima
Probably the only one of the boys who actively enjoys slow burns and more psychological horror. He doesn't get opportunities to watch movies much but he does have an interest in the medium as a whole.
Particularly loves anything with spectacular cinematography. Good directing, lighting, or costumes really impress him. Kind of interested in some of the technical aspects as well. Also probably the only of the boys to ever look something up on IMDb.
Especially fond of movies by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. His favorite horror films are Kwaidan, Cure, and Pulse.
Tatsuo Shinada
The biggest scaredy cat of all of the boys. Will attempt to watch a spooky movie with you at least once just for the sake of trying but will honestly just close his eyes if he feels overwhelmed. You HAVE to hold his hand though.
Probably the only one of the boys who actually gets squeamish easily. Gore and blood make him uncomfortable, although he has SOME tolerance in general. He'd just rather watch something that's not super heavy on bloodshed.
Horror films with a particular visual style, especially super colorful ones, make it a lot easier for him as he can actually see what's happening and he feels less worried. Movies like House or Suspiria are good for him. Also likes super over the top movies like The Lost Boys or Killer Klowns From Outer Space as they're so hilarious to him that he forgets to be scared.
Kasuga Ichiban
Somewhat easily scared. He gets more shocked or surprised than scared, honestly. The movie HAS to be interesting to some degree or he will just conk out and there will be no waking him. Doesn't mind jump scares since they help keep him awake at least even if the movie's bad.
Having said that, he does enjoy taking the time to see a movie that's genuinely just really good and talking about it with you afterward. Movies with really good effects tend to impress him a lot. It's also more visually memorable.
Tends to like movies where the main character has special powers. Partial to zombie movies since a lot tends to happen and involves multiple characters. He likes 28 Days Later, The Dead Zone, and Carrie.

yakuza 0 is a good place to start the series, but it maybe makes more thematic sense coming between yakuza 5 and 6, since it continues 5's downbeat themes better than it leads into 1's plot, and majima's relationship and eventual separation from makoto prefigures kiryu's final abandonment of haruka and the morning glory orphans in 6 pretty strongly.
majima learns in 0 what kiryu doesn't learn until 6:
that attempting to live in both worlds harms the people from the straight world you want to protect, and that in order to keep them safe, you have to abandon them despite the love between you and resign yourself to be a dog without agency for abusive and powerful men who will use you and discard you without a second thought
it's a garbage lesson, to be sure, and you can see how much harm it does to both of them, but the thematic throughline is clear from 5-0-6; kiwami 1 and 2 in particular are active rejections of that idea, so the resonance of the games is a little muddled when played in internal chronology order, or at least it makes majima's role as protagonist less clear, since he doesn't recur with anywhere near the same tragic nobility in the rest of the series. he's not a foil for yakuza 0 kiryu, but he is a foil for the kiryu of 5 and 6, someone who suffered, who was out, and who saw his connections actively weaponized against the people he cared about. it would have been nice to have some of that conveyed in dialogue between the two of them — and it would have been EXTREMELY NICE AND CORRECT to give haruka the same narrative presence and agency in 6 as makoto got in 0; makoto at least got to end the relationship on her own terms in a way that haruka just didn't (and i'm still mad about) — but the game possibly functions better as a flashback than it does as an introduction as a result.

Can you please rank yakuza protagonists from the least to most hygienic?
im taking "protagonists" as player characters
7. kiryu
kiryu showers... most of the time. he washes his hands... most of the time. he can get a bit lazy about it at the best of times but when hes Deep In It (like in y5). its hard enough to just get out of bed yaknow. thinks the 5-second-rule applies to icecream not from trauma about food waste but bc hes stupid.
6. majima
i can imagine majima striking a balance between clean freak and totally filthy. like he gets sweaty and greasy and can go like 2 weeks without showering if hes in a slough of despond or just out of it and focused on other things. and he can spend hours hiding inside a trash can or down in the sewer. and he rolls around on the city asphalt no problem. but you best believe he NEVER misses washing his hands if he was in the washroom or touched something gross. what do you think those gloves are for.
5. saejima
saejma is the first normal one here but im just saying he obviously doesnt wash or brush his hair. i think he probably takes good care of his teeth. probably a bit lax about washing his hands bc he just doesnt care unless he has a good reason to (like when yasuko was sick & in delicate condition) but will throw out food if it goes on the floor (has to stop majima from doing it).
4. shinada
shinada has a normal amount of cleanliness at all times except when hes so broke that the water in his apartment gets shut off. even then he makes an effort to shower at the gym though.
3. haruka
pretty normal amount of cleanliness, maybe a bit more precise. she showers every few days or more often if she got all sweaty. washes her hands at all the proper times, makes sure her hair doesnt get greasy bc she hates that.
2. akiyama
i know what youre thinking, 'akiyama is lazy and a bit sleazy, he would not go to the effort of staying very clean'. yeah but have you considered. hes lazy and a bit sleazy and rich. sure he has sky finance or whatever but he only rolls up when he feels like playing mind games with desperate people ! he doesnt do anything to keep the business running. hes got time to kill. hes luxuriating in a nice bath for several hours a day sometimes. exotic bubble baths and stuff. yea. he'll still eat off the floor though.
ryuji
clean but also kinda gross bc he overdoes it on the colognes and overly fragrant bodywash.

ok my opinion now that i finished y8's story (spoilers)
tldr; overall it's a flawed but better end for kiryu than 6 imo. n ichiban is there <3 don't play this as your first yakuza game please don't you will get so much more out of this if you actually know who tf anyone is
it wasn't as awesomesauce as it seemed like it was gonna n it fell into the usual rgg problems - while surprisingly fixing a big one
kiryu's story effected me a lot 🥲 while ichiban's was just mostly "well i get to see ichiban yay". not to say i didn't care at all lmao the hawaii plot definitely still had it's strong moments (especially the scene w chitose after the bryce boss!!!) it just didn't hit the same overall
positive: KIRYU. i honestly loved most of the kiryu stuff. letting him look back outside of traumatic flashbacks.... letting him have a nice time..... giving him all these new friends that won't die on top of reassuring him that his old connections are still alright.... getting his ass punched by akiyama lmao. it really makes you realize how weird of an ending y6 would've been if that was truly kiryu's last game. so nice to finally be able to acknowledge previously tossed out characters/story beats in-game. seeing shinada mentioned… i cheered (i wish he was actually in there tho). on the hawaii side: tomizawa n chitose r sooooo good i didn't even think i'd end up liking chitose but i lov her.... n ichiban is the ichiban as usual
n the main villains don't die this game!? they're expected to live w what they did, even the evil cult leader!?!? kiryu's line abt not being able to change anything if you're dead wow wow wow hearing that after the prev games where a lot of them die even when they were able to change wooooooow. the pre-credits ending was sooooooo strong. I LUV KIRYU :( :) :(
<3 the tweaks to gameplay were nice too + it was a very pretty game
it had to grow on me but i like kiryu's y8 look a whole lot it's very nice n goes well w his softer expressions
negative: not as well optimized for pc (or in general) as y7 it feels like? i already said i liked kiryu's plot more than ichiban's... yeah. pretty mad that hanawa died but whatevar i guess... i understand saeko's conflict w ichiban but don't really like how they wrote her at times it made me kinda frustrated. esp w the joke at the end. really the whole y7 party took a step backwards in some ways (tho they're still great mostly) it's just saeko got it the worst. also i really don't like how long they took to get me to actually like yamai bc his reason for being in hawaii was constantly in the back of my head n then at the very end after all the fun stuff already happened they were like "actually he didn't try to assault her she framed him" fuuuuuuck you at least tell us that way earlier instead of suddenly detouring in the penultimate chapter. "well they had you warm up to him so you'd know something was up! they wouldn't make an sa-er likable!" listen. listen. i love rgg but if you think i trust them w women.... n if you think i forgot y4......... i didn't realize they still had the dating thing from 7 in there either till i saw someone else mention it n i refuse to touch it :/
too many blonde blue eyed white ppl in the substories wtf why do they outnumber the natives
my one gripe abt the kiryu side is that we didn't get to see him actually reunite w haruka n haruto IN GAAAAME BEFORE IT ENDED. LIKE WE KNO HE WILL BUT I WANTED TO SEEEEEEEE ON SCREEEEEEEN
my current ranking:
y0 = y7 > y3 > y5 > y8?? (not entirely sure bc its like. the highs n lows are so drastic) > kiwami 1 = y1 > kiwami 2 (don't get mad at me) > y6 (doooon't get mad at me i started liking it less when 8 was announced) > y4
gaiden not there bc its a short side game but i liked it so i'll mention it. didn't play the og y2 </3

[RGG Online Translation] Boss Rush Event · Ravenous Beasts, Greedy Monsters (Ichiban & Miss Tatsu)
Tumblr media
Summary: Ichiban is approached by Miss Tatsu, who is looking for help with a particularly strange debt collection. All of her colleagues have attempted to collect the debt, but have come back mauled, as if besieged by a savage beast... Featured Characters: Ichiban Kasuga (RGGO version), Miss Tatsu, Hirata, Tiger, Teru Yamada (OC) Spoilers?: There’s a few light references to another story from RGGO, but they’re not really spoilers.
On this episode, Ichiban and Miss Tatsu team up to fight a tiger, and I’ve never wanted anything more in my life.
In case you’ve forgotten who Hirata is (which is completely understandable) he’s somewhat notable for being the first enemy you ever fight in the whole series: Kiryu is introduced collecting a loan from him in Yakuza 1. Hirata resisted, so Kiryu did as Kiryu does.
Usual Disclaimer: I'm coming at this with little more than crude Japanese knowledge, a machine translation cocktail, and an insatiable desire for more RGG content. This will by no means be a decent translation, but it should at least be serviceable.
Notes:
This is set in 2018. Even though she looks the same as she did back in 0, Miss Tatsu will be in her 50-60′s here.
This is also a slightly alternate continuity where Ichiban is fighting the Omi Alliance in Kamurocho instead of getting hustled over to Yokohama. This is relevant because of the specific point that the police are in bed with the Omi, which is touched upon in the Epilogue.
Yamada makes reference to knowing Noa Amon, of the Amon clan. This is referring to one of the Daily Life substories where the two worked together to beat up some goons. You can read it here if you’d like, it’s the one at the very bottom.
------------------ PROLOGUE ------------------
Scene #1: Kamurocho · Nakamichi Street
Narration: One holiday...
Tumblr media
Yamada: [smile] Thanks for coming along to my special training, Kasuga!
Ichiban: No problem. Just, you know, maybe tone it down a little- Ugh! [pained] My ass still hurts from how hard you kicked it...
Yamada: [frown] Oh, uh, I’m sorry?
Ichiban: Noa still won’t train with you?
Yamada: Yeah... “There’s no point in getting into the practical when you still haven’t mastered the basics.”
Ichiban: [smile] Ehh, that’s pretty cool. I should remember that. If that’s the case, why don’t you focus on laying down a foundation? I’m always happy to help you train, so you don’t need to rush.
Yamada: [smile] ...You’re right. Thanks, Kasuga!
?: Kasuga!
Tumblr media
Ichiban: Oh, Miss Tatsu. What’s up? If you haven’t eaten yet, wanna join us?
Miss Tatsu: ...That works. I just wanted to ask you something, not stand around and chat.
Ichiban: Hm?
------------------
Scene #2: Kamurocho · Restaurant
Tumblr media
Ichiban: [confused] A troublesome collection?
Miss Tatsu: Yeah. My colleagues are getting pummeled by them, one after the other.
Ichiban: Hmm... So now it’ll be your turn?
Miss Tatsu: That’s right. Actually, the request just came in.
Ichiban: You took it, yeah?
Miss Tatsu: [frown] Well... I’m not sure.
Ichiban: [confused] You’re unsure? Is he really that dangerous?
Miss Tatsu: That’s just it, the debtor is a completely average old man. At least, from what I’ve gathered.
Ichiban: Then why...
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: The people who went to collect his debt came back mauled, as if they’d been attacked by a wild beast...
Ichiban: [confused] Beast...? What, does he have a Doberman?
Miss Tatsu: I’ve seen their injuries. No Doberman could do that.
Ichiban: ...What then?
Miss Tatsu: [frown] I don’t know. That’s why I’m indecisive. Even when I tried to talk to the victims, they all clammed up like they were afraid of something. So I wanted to see if you’d know anything... but it seems like you don’t.
Ichiban: Sorry, I’ve got no clue. But hey, if you’re gonna fight the guy, I can lend a hand. [smile] Maybe the old guy’s a werewolf. I’m curious to find out, hehe.
Miss Tatsu: ...It would be nice to have your help, but...
Ichiban: Then it’s settled. I’ll be fine - if things get bad, I’ll run away as fast as I can.
Miss Tatsu: [smile] ...Heh, I got it. Looking forward to working with you. We’ll split the fee fifty-fifty, alright?
Yamada: U-Um!
Ichiban: [confused] Huh?
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: Ah, sorry miss. Talking about something this gory over a meal.
Yamada: No, it’s not that, you’re fine... Anyway, can I come with?
Miss Tatsu: [surprised] You?
Ichiban: No, it’ll be dangerous... Leave this to us.
Yamada: Please, I won’t do anything risky! [frown] I know I’m still a novice, but that’s why I want to become strong as soon as possible, for everyone’s sake. So-
Miss Tatsu: [smile] Hehe, you’re a proper youngster. Almost hurts my old eyes to see... Teru, you said?
Yamada: Yes ma’am.
Miss Tatsu: Will you keep your promise to not do anything risky?
Yamada: Yes ma’am!
Miss Tatsu: [smile] Okay then, let’s go. I know where he’s hiding. I can count on you when the time comes, right Kasuga?
Ichiban: [smile] Heh. I gotcha.
------------------
Scene #3: Kamurocho · Docks
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: ...Here it is.
Ichiban: This is where we’ll find the truth of the old man werewolf.
Miss Tatsu: His name is Hirata. He’s the president of a credit company called Peace Finance.
Ichiban: [confused] Huh? Feel like I’ve heard that name before.
Miss Tatsu: You’ve got a good memory. Yes, he ran the same company about 30 years ago. He was a bastard with a bad reputation, and one day he up and disappeared. And then, recently, he reappeared out of nowhere.
Ichiban: And he’s right back to his bad behaviour. Guess a tiger never changes its stripes. You alright, Teru?
Tumblr media
Yamada: [frown] Y-Yeah...!
Ichiban: You can head back home if you want.
Yamada: It’s fine, I’m fine...!
Miss Tatsu: [angry] Okay then, let’s go...!
------------------
Scene #4: Kamurocho · Warehouse
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: [angry] Hirata! Come out! I’m taking back the money you owe!!
Ichiban: [confused] Hm? What’s that smell...?
?: Hi, hihihi...
Ichiban: !
Tumblr media
Hirata: You collectors never learn. No matter how many of you come, it’s always the same...!
Ichiban: You’re Hirata, yeah? ...I see, you really are just an old man.
Miss Tatsu: [angry] An old man with the cash to rent a warehouse like this. Let’s get you to pay back one month’s interest first.
Hirata: You all say the same thing... so your fate will also be the same.
Miss Tatsu: ...?
Tumblr media
Yamada: [surprised] ...! Watch out!!
[something growls]
Ichiban: [confused] Wha?!
Miss Tatsu: [surprised] What is it now...?!
Tumblr media
[the tiger growls again]
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: [angry] ...Teru. We’re running.
Ichiban: [angry] Tsk...! We’re not letting him get away, are we? He’s a fucking lunatic. [raises fists] We have to fight it, Miss Tatsu. Teru, you stay behind me, alright?
Yamada: [frown] O-Okay...!
Miss Tatsu: ...Hirata. I’ll ask just in case. You aren’t gonna give the money back?
Hirata: No way that’s happening...!
Miss Tatsu: Fuh, then it can’t be helped. [angry] Sorry to that big guard dog over there, but I’m about to give his master a hell of a beating! Let’s go, Kasuga!!
Tumblr media
Ichiban: Oouh!
Hirata: Aren’t you scared of my pet at all? ...Fine, if you think you can get past him, then just try it!
------------------
[And so, Ichiban and Miss Tatsu beat up Hirata and his pet kitty about a hundred million times. I can’t place the battle music off the top of my head, but I do know the main menu for the event played Debt Cleanup, which is still a certified :catjam:]
------------------ EPILOGUE ------------------
Scene #5: Kamurocho · Docks
Tumblr media
Ichiban: I wasn’t sure when I reported it, but it seems like the police have a handle on things.
Miss Tatsu: He didn’t have anything to do with the Omi, after all. Besides, it’s not like they could leave a tiger alone.
Ichiban: That’s for sure. I can’t believe he got a freakin’ tiger to fight off debt collectors instead of a guard dog. How did he even tame it?
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: [frown] I’m sorry, Teru. You must have been scared.
Yamada: [frown] It’s fine...
Ichiban: [raised eyebrow] Hey, you don’t look fine. What’s wrong?
Yamada: ...I was thinking about what I could do while the two of you were fighting so hard. But in the end, I couldn’t do anything...
Miss Tatsu: Teru...
Ichiban: [smile] ...Heh, your heart’s in the right place, Teru. But you don’t have to rush yourself. Noa said it too, right? The basics are important. If you weren’t up to it today, you can try again tomorrow. And one day, you’ll be the one to help us out when we’re in a pinch. I’ll be looking forward to it.
Miss Tatsu: [smile] Feh, that’s right. We’re not getting any younger, after all. I’m counting on you, Teru.
Yamada: ...Yeah! I’ll try harder! [yell] Alright, I’ll get right back to my training! Starting with a run back home! Farewell!
[she runs off]
Tumblr media
Ichiban: [confused] Hey! How many kilometres does she think that is...?
Miss Tatsu: [smile] Heh. She’s a good girl. I’m looking forward to her future.
Ichiban: [smile] ...Well, us old-timers are exhausted. What say we enjoy an after-work drink together?
Tumblr media
Miss Tatsu: Sounds good. At least that’s one advantage to being an adult!
------END------ ------------------
Ichiban: And he’s right back to his bad behaviour. A tiger never changes its stripes.
The original saying here is “三つ子の魂百まで”, which translates literally to “the soul of a child of three (is the same) at 100″. In other words, someone’s nature as a child never truly changes even when they get older. The tiger saying seemed to be a decent equivalent, and also added a delightful bit of dramatic irony, hehe.
Anyway, let’s talk a little more about Hirata. He actually showed up one more time in the main series, in a Yakuza 3 substory. After Kiryu kicked his teeth in, Hirata ran off and became homeless while his family suffered under his debt. Circa 2009, his son tried to kill him in revenge, but Kiryu stopped him and father and son reconciled after Hirata apologised for what he put his family through.
So then, why did he return to his old scam another ten or so years later? One could just say he relapsed, going along with Ichiban’s point that a person’s true nature never changes. However, I think it honestly might be because RGGO did its Yakuza 1 retelling just two months before this event. Why stoop to some generic mook when they have a fully animated model for an actual Yakuza baddie, you know? Really sucks to be that family of his, though.

If Noctis put as much time and effort into every other aspect of his life, he'd be unstoppable. Unfortunately, his determination only extended to a select few things that he enjoyed – fishing and video games.
The local arcade seemed to be dominated by the name Maj. Noctis didn’t know for certain, but had a pretty good feeling he knew who it was. He knew Majima hung around there sometimes, so he decided he was going to beat all of his records one by one, leaving behind the letters NLC on the scoreboards like a calling card.
The last game he was called Sega Bass Fishing, and it was one of his favourites. He spent a good few hours on it, even after he beat the high score.
(He's probably still there when Majima shows up)
@chosenbythecrystal
Tumblr media
boredom had consumed majima once again as kiryu-chan was no where to be found, the dude being off to okinawa meant majima had no one to pester, & no one who would tolerate it somewhat. the next best thing majima could do was just hit up the arcades, picking the most popular choice that was club sega, it had the widest range of games, he'll probably play some virtua fighter, then look around at more of the games to see if he had to upkeep his high score anywhere.
he entered the bright red building that could be spotted from a whole ass mile away if such a thing was possible. there was a pile of different sounds going off all at once, one of the things he noticed was the mesuking machines were gone ... guess his ultra rare cards he had obtained from that were worthless now ; at least they were nice to look at.
every scoreboard he saw as looked at the machines seemed to be in order, MAJ was still the reigning champion in most of them, but on a fair few, it seemed someone NLC had taken over his spot ... who could that have been ? he never seen that name around this arcade before. luckily, whoever NLC was, he was shit at virtua fighter, majima wouldn't have wanted to have tried beating that score on that game if they had overtaken him there ... he had achieved a perfect in every round with each different character of the single play mode of that, that in itself was pretty hard to defeat given how cheap the cpu were coded for the arcade versions of these games.
outrun, & super hang-on however, NLC had overtaken him in those, so majima played a few games of them each until he beat the new high scores that were listed, proudly leaving behind MAJ again in their place.
the only game he hadn't checked now was that new fishing game they added, sega bass fishing ... weird concept for a video game considering anyone with a fishing rod could go out & do that in real life, but he guessed the same could be said about the others.
as he walked over to the new machine, he noticed it was occupied by someone ; someone he knew, fuck, that's who NLC was ... noctis caelum ? that was the dude he had mistaken for being part of the lucis caelum clan that was now causing issues for the tojo clan with their new leadership, he went to stand behind the other so to wait for the machine to be free, but the other didn't look like he had any intention of budging.
then he saw the score ... what the fuck was that score even ? the dude had somehow broken it ?
Tumblr media
❝ yo, noctis, the fuck, dude ? whaddya doin' me like this fer ? do i run into yer turf n' ruin all yer high scores ? i've been the first on all the boards in here fer so long now ... ❞
to say majima looked upset was underexaggerating. he was devastated ! well, there was only one way to settle this now.
❝ ya mighta beat one o' my high scores, but how 'bout we take this outside, n' see who really is the champion ? ❞

I really love when bi women are super vocal about being into manly / dudely guys. I date and fuck straight women too, of course, and I'm not here to say that feminine men are inadequate or overrepresented or anything, but I'm surrounded by bi women more often than not so I usually end up dating and fucking them the most, and the majority of my experiences around women in queer spaces have been people being pretty adverse to body hair and broad shoulders and vulgarity and strength and dominance and assertiveness and foolhardiness and confidence and candidness and other "traditionally masculine" traits / attributes, or at the very least these traits (in men) were seen as stale and boring. I can't really help who I am, so for a while I kinda ruled dating out completely. I figured all my masculinity was gonna do was scare people; I'm not gay or a woman, I kind of cringe at the implication that my masculinity is "soft" or "superior" to that of any other man's, it was 100% that of your average straight male, independent of anyone or anything but the experiences I've had and the people who've touched me. I figured all I was doing was taking up space that other people deserved more and stressing everyone out.
Then I got better friends, and met better girls, and now I know this is entirely untrue. It could be something as small as someone making a silly "if you look like this DM me" joke with pictures of Sword from Garo Vanishing Line or Kiryu from Yakuza or Kamina from Gurren Lagann, or something as big as a girl asking to feel my muscles, and I'd just get warm and fuzzy all over. Those are the type of guys my masculinity is modeled after. I'm pretty macho and bro-y and it's nice to finally have found people who embrace and desire and support this immutable aspect of me.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS.......... And yeah! Yokoyama says the story begins and ends with Ichi and so Kiryu is sort of a supporting character (i.e. it's not equal like it was in 0). It was nice to have the assurance Kiryu won't be upstaging Ichiban.
Also Me Too. At least it's pretty positive Kim and Zhao will be back, based on the original teaser. But that reminds me, there are apparently three voices we aren't supposed to be able to identify just yet, and that's enough to fill out a party...
PLEASE THOUGH I want Mine and Daigo to meet again so bad 😭😭😭it won't make up for how Kiryu mishandled the whole thing in Y3+RGGO (In My Opinion) but he could at least try... why does Daigo have to be off in SOTENBORI
But on the real, I think it'd be nice to see Mine grow into his own person independently, too. I mean, he has to have changed in those 15 years unless he just woke up. Speaking of Mine's "next life," that was something I liked about Hijikata and Tokugawa--Tokugawa was of course a huge influence on his life, but it was in a distant sense, not immediately relevant. I also think it's neat the real Hijikata's death poem parallels the life of Mine closely, although I don't think he ever directly met Tokugawa ("[his] lord on the East").
Tumblr media
I'm just infodumping at this point but I want Mine back purely because the recast has made it so all of Ryoma's allies in the Shinsengumi have met each other in modern times except Mine. Mine only got to meet Kiryu, Majima, and Kashiwagi, but everyone else has met everyone else in some form 😭😭😭
Couldn’t answer last night as I went to sleep
Ohhhh that makes a lot of sense. The people who despise Ichiban though would probably be mad it won’t be like 0 apparently. Which is good.
Huh… really wonder what’s going on there. And how does Hawaii tie into all of this. Do they follow him to Hawaii is he all alone in Hawaii is it party “vacation” time in Hawaii will Kim be wearing that R&B 2000s look from that one RGGO card… in Hawaii
They may be separated by distance, but that only makes the heart grow fonder uwu I do wonder what a revived Mine would be like. Would he be like his Ishin self? I don’t think they’d let him be so unhinged like he was after a certain point in 3, and there’d likely be no reason for him to start stabbing people with butter knives again.
I was wondering how the Mine and Daigo dynamic could be in Ishin before, and this is very interesting 👁️👁️

oh also
i think unless there's a super major curveball that i absolutely hate (cough cough) i plan on relatively keeping to the events of the games, though i make no promises all details or contexts will be the same
(lightly spoiler-ish discussion for 4 through 6)
like majima is with kiryu after the events of yakuza 3, and given kiryu's mourning and general terrible mental state, and the fact they've been apart for too long, i don't think anything would pull majima away - nishida assumes his place, not having replaced him as matriarch but still being trusted with a lot of authority. i'm still not sure if majima will eventually "take back" his place within the events as kiryu gets involved (thus matching back up to the canon) or if nishida remains - that will have to be seen when it comes to it haha
for yakuza 5, yeah i... i don't know how i'm gonna handle the mirei situation i'll be honest. for my majima that's around the time he realises he's down bad for kiryu so... hahaha. if majima is still with kiryu at that point (heavily reliant on how i handle yakuza 4 huh) i don't think he'd just let mirei pull her shit on kiryu, regardless of their relationship - if there's any game i expect i'll diverge the most on events, it's probably yakuza 5, but i guess we'll see
and yakuza 6... the big thing i know i'm doing is changing that whole ending and pretty much writing kiryu out of the future ichigang. gaiden, 7, 8, nah. he deserves to retire in fucking peace. also like with the brutality of those injuries he probably actually almost died, and you don't just get up and walk away to fake your death from that.
i think his brain's been messed up for a little while (given some of the other things that have happened through the games before this) but that all just puts the nail in the coffin, y'know? i think at the very least fucked up balance, less precise motor skills, and if not a total loss of speech (but probably) then slower and more difficult.
i'm basically expecting my canon divergence for 4-6 will look something like this:
Tumblr media
things meet back up all nice and neat and then whoooopsie hard turn into divergence that can never come back. like kiryu's literally incapable at that point lmao

I have branched off from Yakuza games and am now playing Judgement
1 this game is so fucking pretty
2 Ryu ga gotoku games are like. 1/3 fun weird do what you want slice of life 1/3 serious deadly angst crime drama 1/3 cutscenesssss (the movies so many movies and I'm used to kingdom hearts level cutscenes but damn rgg games feel like I'm Playing a yakuza TV show sometimes for both good and bad)
3 Yagami wears skinny jeans I'm calling him a millennial (although he may be Gen x and older than me? Depends how much younger he is than kiryu I guess o3o) I just think it's funny I'm playing this adult private detective in a white undershirt a leather jacket and skinny jeans he just looks like me in college lmao. U roll up to the yakuza family who paid ur lawyer degree and can commit crimes while ur fucking Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright who accidentally got a real serial killer acquitted and u look like a bisexual college disaster. Congrats. Ur really rocking A Specific Vibe my dude. Nothing like Kiryus "I'm wearing my 80s suit forever or else a Hawaiian flower shirt" vibe but definitely A Distinct one. It makes Yagami feel way more modern but like... My age group modern rather than the gen z modern kid who probably just turned 18 when this came out
4 Yagami. I'm a gay shdjfj I'm sorry death note did this to me. It's beyond hilarious to me he's got a same last name as Light Yagami thank FUCK this Yagami is an ex lawyer and now private eye. If he'd have been yet another cop I would've well. Dreaded his potential as anything but evil frankly. Even Date, Kiryus bro, quit the force to be a journalist (at least for a while).
5 finally a return to form in the sense there's MULTIPLE CUTE MEN ON SCREEN. Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2 all basically gave u hot leads and hot bad guys. Basically if a fucker was hot and not ur best friend then he was gonna be the main villain. Then I played Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon and for the most part very few hotties (saeko, tianyou, the guy with white hair, and maybe ichiban if you happen to like that kinda guy but if u didn't think kiryu was eyecandy then ichiban isnt really either). I'm glad there's now like at least 1 cutie on screen again at all times. Cause I can be shallow sometimes. Djdjf also the pick for Yagamis coworker ex yakuza guy is like nishiki eye candy compared to the kiryu/ichiban variety (which I love with my whole heart but it's not oogle type). His coworker is like akiyama or Tachibana or majima design wise. It's <3 and with a flowery kiryu type shirt but long sleeved and silky
6 I am still reeling that ur basically playing Phoenix Wright if he fucked up and saved a serial killer. But still impressive u know, to win as a defense attorney in Japan with that 99.9 conviction rate (also kudos to the game saying it immediately). I wonder if Yagami has his own Edgeworth? (God but not shinitani his sempai nooo not him he's introduced to early! Tho... u could argue he's his lawyer rival kinda).
7 playing all evening I still haven't found any side missions? I hope this game still has side stories??
8 I actually love the detective portions which I imagine annoyed some people but I love being a little fucking detective figuring stuff out it's why I love Devil Summoner Raidou game and mystery shows and novels and its just fun to me puts a little spice on a murder mystery story shdhd in yakuza games kiryu just hears a bitch dies, now I get to go figure out if the fucker actually killed someone. It's fun to be in like a random outsiders shoes while functionally the same opening to Yakuza 0 happens where kiryu doesn't kill a guy but is suspected. Except instead of playing the suspect, u play the outsider trying to figure out who's actually dropping ppl dead in kamurocho. It's a nice fresh perspective shift on a pretty common plot occurrence in the yakuza games.

i want “oh this will be FUNNY” and “is this gay sex”
this is apart of the wip game :)
"oh this will be FUNNY" is a fic that i have been working on for like....a year-ish. it's only funny for me because it's a) one of the two yakuza crossovers i made and b) i made kazumaji and nickles happen. i just think its funny. imagine having to go to tojo clan hq (as kiryu) and majima is crying that little daigo's favorite band got kidnapped. so kiryu is like "i have to save them huh." majima is like "OBVIOUSLY". so kiryu goes to save dethklok who is currently captured by this rival yakuza family who charles is beating up and kiryu is like "....am i late to this." something something "holy shit there's two of them" meme with pickles and majima
i got two asks for this next one
Tumblr media
"is this gay sex" is a wip that i have just been writing porn for and no plot. "isn't that a good thing?" i guess but i like to feel with my penis images. it's cfoface btw. i wanna write them but i always get a mental block when i try to write anything more than two words. murderface may guide me.
also ill share some of the porn too. im so nice.
"I don't want to keep you any longer. You do have practice."
"Well. Skwisgaar usually does my p-"
Charles' hand moves from Murderface's shoulder to his thigh. Murderface feels his cheeks heat up at the placement of Charles' hand.
"Uh. Um."
"Yes? You were talking about Skwisgaar?"
"Uh. Yeah, he, uh-"
Charles' hand is rubbing circles on Murderface's thigh, and fuck it was really hard to concentrate when he did that. Murderface shifts his legs, and accidentally shifts Charles' hand closer to his crotch. Man, if he didn't have a boner already...
"You know. I'm always so lonely in my office. And you probably won't record your parts anyway, am I right?"
What the hell was happening? Twenty minutes ago, Charles had invited him to lunch. A seemingly innocent gesture at first, but it quickly turned...well...into this. Whatever this was even.
Not that he was complaining really. Charles wasn't bad looking (for a guy anyway), and Murderface had been pretty lonely recently. Still, he wasn't gay (or at least that's what he kept telling himself), and Nathan would have his ass if he was late to practice again. But....Charles was really good with those hands, he had a really nice body (not that Murderface was paying attention when Charles worked out!) and Murderface wanted to see where this whole thing was going.
"So why not spend some time with me?"
Fuck it. The guys could go fuck themselves, he was going to pal around with Charles. No matter how gay this is getting.

Hi friend!!! :D I hope you're having a great road trip so far (I know it's gonna be a while for you to answer this one but it's okiee take your time, just wanted to thank you for writing these amazing headcanons!! <3)
So, I'm a sucker for marriage. Can I request some headcanons about how the boys would propose to their partner?
BRAIN GO BRRRRRRRRR yes you absolutel can have these headcanons ahooga. Also thank yew, road trip was gouda. Headcanons below da cut sweet anon, thanks for your patience!
Kazuma Kiryu
Most nervous about planning the proposal, actually. Worried about where, when, and all of that. He'll be surprisingly calm during it though, much to his own surprise.
He'd pick somepalce rather intimate, definitely not the type of guy for public proposals. Honestly might just go the classic route and propose to you while the sun sets on the beach in Okinawa.
Only other person who knows any details about his proposal is Haruka. She totally contributes, like hiding the ring box in her room because she knows you won't look in there.
Majima Goro
Debates for a long time if he's going to go the typical over the top route he does with... pretty much anything else in his life. Asks Kiryu and Saejima for advice, to which they both kinda blush awkwardly and are like "How the heck would I know what to do?"
Shockingly, he decides to also go the more intimate route, although maybe less romance movie tropey than Kiryu. Probably takes you up to a rooftop the two of you relaly like to hangout at, or some other place where you both have a lot of fond memories.
Most nervous of all of the boys DURING the proposal itself. You might honestly be able to pick up on it due to his sudden fidgety behavior a few minutes before it actually happens.
Saejima Taiga
He'll keep it fairly plain and simple. No frills or lavish giant public proposals here. Saejima wants to keep it as real and genuine as possible as he sees this as essentially THE confession of a lifetime.
Won't go too crazy with planning and will likely settle for doing a date that repeats your first date together. Visiting all of your favorite spots or maybe where you had your first kiss is a good setting for him.
Might propose on a rooftop or in a park but will make sure there are no crowds nearby. He wants to be able to lay out all of his feelings before popping the question and he needs some amount of space and privacy from the world to do this.
Akiyama Shun
Total class act. Fancy dinner and all. Brings flowers and everything. Probably secretly asks the waiter to pull some strings in the kitchen for a nice dessert.
Asks Hana advice for what to do. She helps him pick out the place, ultimately. She makes him do the ring shopping though and refuses to give him input on that.
Nervous the entire time, both while planning it and during the proposal itself. Akiyama is a romantic at heart but honestly marriage was kind of always a distant fantasy for him, so it's totally crazy for him to actually be doing this.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Our boy is a MESS. Has zero idea what to do. Where the heck do people even get rings? Does it matter which knee people get down on during a proposal? He has no idea.
Spends the most amount of time out of all the boys picking out a ring. He knows this is something very special and important so he puts in the time accordingly to pick one out.
Might honestly propose at Homeland after getting them to prepare a special dinner for you both. Proposes in private though, makes eveyone leave the restaurant before he gets down on one knee because he's shy as hell.
Ryuji Goda
The LEAST nervous of all the boys about proposing. It's kind of expected for him to get married someday given his position in the Omi Alliance, so the concept has been on his mind somewhat for a good while.
Confident in his ability to pick out a ring and he will indeed pick out something very nice. Unlike most of the boys, he can plan a proposal all by himself.
Think Akiyama on steroids. It's not just a fancy dinner, it's a PRIVATE room in the nicest restaurant in town with your favorite bottle of wine chilling when you arrive. Hell, private chef too if he can find one. Gets down on one knee after dessert just as the sun is setting.
Nishikiyama Akira
Out of all the boys, he's probably the easiest to sniff out when he's planning a proposal. Tries to play it cool like everything is normal but it's super obvious when things are not normal.
Asks Kiryu for advice on places to go ring shopping, to which Kiryu is like "Uhh... Le Marche? Where else do they sell rings..." which isn't much help. Might just go ring shopping WITH you after proposing, if you're into that.
He'll wait for an anniversary or Valentine's Day to pop the question. It lets him use the holiday as a cover up for all his scurrying around making plans.
Daigo Dojima
Similar to Ryuji in that he always knew he'd likely get married at some point due to his status. However, unlike Ryuji, he has ZERO clue what he's doing. Isn't panicking outwardly but is a little palms sweaty if you know what I mean.
If he asks anyone for advice, it's his mom. He wouldn't bring it up to other Tojo Clan members and plus he trusts his mom of all people to understand him and what he's about to do. They have a pretty decent relationship and she'll be glad to see her son getting married.
With Daigo, it'll eventually go down one of two ways. If you share a home together, he'll plan a private dinner at home with just you two and send all of his staff home so you can have the place all to yourself. If you don't share a home together, he'll take you on a weekend vacation and propose the night before the vacation ends.
Mine Yoshitaka
Good at ring selecting, bad at proposal planning. He's got a pretty good idea of what kind of ring you'd want but when it comes to the act of proposing itself, he's not sure where to do it.
Would end up taking you on a very special date, something the two of you hadn't done before, like going to an opera. It'll definitely be something that requires you two dressing up. Even by Mine standards, it'll be a rather fancy affair.
After the event, he'll take you to a really nice rooftop bar late at night and that's when it'll all go down. It's semi-public but he'll still try to keep it intimate and won't try to draw attention to himself.
Tatsuo Shinada
Despises public proposals. The idea of proposing is plenty scary and he doesn't need a hundred people watching. Having said that, he's not the best at getting all fancy, especially since he can't always afford that, so planning is pretty hard for Shinada.
It's cheesy but he might just end up like putting the ring on a cupcake and giving it to you at home after spending all day together doing cute things, like going to bookstores and getting food at some local restaurants.
The least traditional of all the boys to be honest. Don't expect the whole down-on-one-knee things. Shinada's pretty spontaneous so it'll be a unique proposal for sure. Most likely man to propose with a ring pop or something.

Like A Dragon Quest Continues: Yakuza 3, Path of Exile, Escape From Tarkov
Hello gamers, I'm back with another weekly wrap up! Busy couple weeks for me, messing around with a few different things.
The big one is that Like A Dragon Quest continues apace. This is how im gonna refer to my plans to play through the Yakuza series, since that is how the series is named in Japan and going forward outside Japan as well, and I think its a good pun on the title and Dragon Quest, the games that the recent RPG forays of the series are taking direct inspiration from.
To that end, this week I played through pretty much all of Yakuza 3. This game sees Kiryu leaving Kamurocho behind to start and run an orphanage in Okinawa where he hopes to live a peaceful life away from trouble. As you may expect, this does not go well. He gets a good two years of being a dad to Haruka and the others before some mess with the Tojo clan forces him back into action. Overall I really liked the game, I think that the story is really good, a ton of great characters to bounce around and some good side stories, plus the combat was pretty enjoyable for being the oldest one of these games that I am going to play. I think where the game really shines is in the surprisingly large amount of time the game spends on Kiryu just doing dad stuff: helping make dinner, going shopping, helping the orphans settle disputes and doing a lot of parenting along the way. It's bittersweet to see all of this in the game however, knowing that the series continues for long after this and Kiryu doesn't quite get the peace he deserves. Definitely one of the better games in this series that I've played.
I also played through Yakuza 4 in the time since my last blog post, and my thoughts on that one are a bit less positive. This game sees the player take control of four different characters (including Kiryu) over the course of the game, and while I generally like all the characters well enough and enjoyed how they played, I felt like giving each character a whole bunch of ways to spend time and upgrade their abilities was a bit annoying once I realized I was only going to be playing as them for 6 or so hours a piece. I also didn't care as much for the overarching plot in this one, it was nice to see how the ripples of the previous games' events impacted other people, but I felt that over time the conspiracy plot and who was backstabbing who got more silly than anything else, especially coming off the heels of the third game, which had a stronger emotional core and more interesting plot twists overall. Probably the worst one of these that I've yet played, but it was only about 30 hours and was still prettty decent.
I dabbled a little with Escape from Tarkov, a big new patch for the shooter came out recently and I wanted to dip my toe in and see how I felt. The game is very fun, but is definitely the kind of game you would want to play seriously for a few weeks, and right now I've got other things distracting my attention, mainly a rekindled love affair with Path of Exile.
Path of Exile is, simply put, a game for freaks. And I have been a freak for over 1000 hours in that game easily. But its not often you get to witness someone else turn into that kind of freak as well! A few weeks ago my friend Wes told me that he had been tasked by another friend (due to them winning a fantasy football league) that he had to play through at least act 5 of PoE (halfway through the base game, maybe a 10th of the whole experience) and I took it upon myself to be his guide through the crazy experience that is path of exile.
If you're not familiar, this is a game in the genre of Diablo Style Action RPGs, and over the ten years that I have been playing PoE it has developed (devolved?) into a game where your player characters zip across the screen at incredible speeds mowing down hundreds of monsters and producing enough calculations and particle effects to humble even the strongest of computers. Again, this is a game for freaks. From the start, I taught Wes how to play the game like I play it, with an eye towards the end and no time to think too hard about the first half of the game. Hour by hour, I taught him about gem links, movement skills, third-party build planning tools, currency, trading, the whole 9 yards. And the most gratifying experience has been hearing him slowly turn into a true-blooded PoE sicko, cackling as he jumps around the screen blowing up everything in his path. Being on this journey with him all the way to the endgame maps has been so much fun, and honestly reminded me of my own love for the game. I am so excited to be able to play more of this game in the future, I've got the bug for it again.
That's all for this update, thanks for sticking with me, and I'll see you next week as Like A Dragon Quest continues with Yakuza 5!

once again thanks so much for putting up with my long ass ramblings, and you're welcome too :-) it actually took me a few hours to finish typing out all of it, plus that sort of post-script message afterwards, but it's not like i did it all in one go and there were breaks in between, so it's fine haha. i genuinely appreciate your concern though :') and that's the power of a relatively new fixation i'm really excited about i guess? wjdfjkcnvzs though i did cobble some parts of it from tentative posts and meta i've had in my drafts for a while now, so they're not totally things i had to come up with on the spot the other day at least. and that's okay (i do like what i've seen of your writing though), like obviously no pressure to feel as dedicated as i am when it comes to talking about my blorbos and glup shittos and whatnot - your actual passion for the media is what matters and that ofc manifests in cool different ways for each of us 🫡 [1/?]
(rest below)
ah i'm glad my description of build was intriguing enough for you! i hope i didn't seem like i was laying it on too thick with my constantly paralleling and comparing it to aa though - i mean at first glance, the narratives of aa and build could not seem more different, but in hindsight they both prominently deal with the concepts of truth, justice, corruption, redemption/atonement, identity, and family and friendship in their own ways (though ig that's probably true of kr in general, which then makes sense as for how toku would feature as a major element in many aa cases), even if not always perfectly in either series, but the effort is generally appreciated and still pretty compelling imo. and i really love aa too (i actually discovered your blog and your twitter through your very cool and beautiful aa fanart a while back, and then when i started watching cm, i was pleasantly surprised to also see your fanart in the tumblr tags, so it was nice to see some of my interests align with that of an artist i liked and followed <3) so finding ways to make analogies between whatever i'm currently into with one of my favorite franchises ever seemed like the natural next step haha [2/?]
also let me just say that ryusen is one of the few m/m couples to get me this obsessed apart from narumitsu and the like over the past several years, so that's really my best way of recommending them. again, idk if that will truly be your experience too by the end, but hopefully you'll still find something to like about their dynamic so my being this much of a shill for them won't feel embarrassing later on kjvbrhsfjs [3/?]
and yeah the rings!! they're far from the only gay-coded kr duo to get that kind of official romantic jewelry ofc, but they were apparently one of the first to really make it popular, so yeah their overall cultural impact sure is something to not be underestimated lol. and yup i've found that it's actually fairly common for many companies behind popular japanese media to go for selling that kind of merch, regardless of the actual canonicity of the pairing in question - like capcom, toei/p-bandai, etc. are aware that there's sizeable enough shipping fanbases for said media, and yeah ig selling that stuff while not having the guts to actually canonize said pairings can come off as pretty baity which is not really Great but well that's capitalism and queer/fujobaiting for you ig 😔 and here's what the sento/banjou rings look like btw: www . tumblr . com/kabutoraiger/190132806767/a-new-entry-into-the-growing-selection-of though i can't share a picture of it rn, their names (spelled as sento kiryu and ryuga banjo) are also inscribed on the insides of their respective individual rings :-) [4/?]
as for the 'silly little rabbit with a death wish' part of that post... hehe. you'll Get it if/when you get there >:) btw sento's given name literally means 'rabbit tank' and banjou's given name ryuuga means 'i'm a dragon' iirc (although the former having that name actually has a good in-universe explanation for once, but the latter definitely has no such excuse 😭) - tbh kr (+ other toku franchises i'm sure) is right up there with aa in terms of often corny yet still charming pun names, but because they're mostly in japanese and don't have localized english equivalents, one doesn't always get it right away but i suppose that's what google and wiki are for lol and actually one other particular example that's stood out to me so far is the name of the protagonist from ex-aid (the one played by iijima from odt, and yeah he, inukai, and akaso all knew each other from their time in kr because their shows also had its own crossover movie which also featured a bunch of other popular previous rider protagonists), which is the season immediately preceding build, because it's literally houjou emu - houjou as a pun on the japanese word for 'assistance,' and emu as in short for 'emulator' and derived from the japanese word for 'smile,' because guess what that season was about? doctors who are gamers. so yeah subtlety.exe nowhere to be found here lmao [5/?]
and hell yeah feel free to join me in the madness ^_^ toku can be one hell of a rabbit (lol) hole though, so it might lead you to become interested in other shows and movies of the medium/genre, in which case we'll be in this together as i'm also still beginning to get into other kr shows in particular (like after i finish build, i think i'll be focusing on the earlier heisei seasons of ooo, den-o, or maybe kuuga). as for where to watch it, i don't have one particular strong rec for a site rn, but what i've gone for are kissasian (kissasian . fm/info/kamen-rider-build) or toku . fun (toku . fun/post/watch-online-kamen-rider-build-full-series-49-episodes-english-sub) - obviously kissasian is more of a general site for which to watch asian dramas on, but that's if you don't mind ads popping up every so often and also the subs used are not very consistent like the source for one episode's translation could be a different team/person from the previous episode's, whereas toku . fun is specifically an archive for toku shows and movies, and is more consistent with the subs and is basically ad-free iirc, albeit i think i've also heard said subs on there described as 'usually the most accurate but also the least funny/entertaining' (ig bc tvnihon, their source, tends to err on the side of 'purism' when translating), so whichever is more your style in the end? i personally switch back and forth between the two sites, purely on the basis of if there's a translation i'm not satisfied with, even if i don't know how actually accurate it is lol on a side note, build's opening song 'be the one' by pandora feat. beverly is a nice jam, and it has an official english version where i think the lyrics (+ the original japanese version too) are something that would make one come to realize just how much they fit sento and banjou's relationship by the end of the show :') [6/?]
and thanks again for giving me the go-ahead to keep on rambling ^_^ moving on to build's female characters: there are only 2 really prominent female characters (a few others pop up here and there, or have relatively big roles for an arc or 2, but not throughout the whole show), misora (as mentioned before) and sawa. imo, both are treated decently, being fun and interesting characters with their own arcs not purely tied to the men (although obviously romance with men or the lack thereof are not inherent markers of the quality of a female character's writing, it's worth noting that neither of them are written as love interests (so you'll never get the sense that they get reduced to just that role) to any male character - but tbf, kr and other popular toku aren't really big on romance, even the het ones, in the first place, maybe bc of some japanese cultural conventions or something, but i've heard that the few canon m/f relationships that are present are usually not written very well, which is once more very shounencore of them lol - although unfortunately, there is a guy with a frankly kinda creepy and annoying parasocial crush on misora which most of the other characters don't care for either but it's still played off as comic relief, kinda larry-like in that sense if we're comparing it to aa again, and that's definitely one of the show's major drawbacks; i mean i still think build is overall worth the watch, and again, since you've gone through all of aa already, you'd be a veteran wrt this kind of trope, but regardless i think it's good to give some warning in advance to help you prepare for some of the shit that's about to go down) plus misora and sawa are eventually shown having a personal relationship/friendship with each other outside of the men too :-) however, overall they're still kinda underutilized and underdeveloped (sawa in particular) compared to the guys, plus neither of them are riders, though in kr, that's also definitely not an automatic indicator for whether a female character will be well-written or not, but then again, since we're both aa fans, i'm sure we're already very familiar with the feeling of seeing interesting and compelling female characters not get their full due from their writers, so based on that, build is survivable for sure 😔 [7/?]
and idk how well they would fare next to female characters from other kr seasons, but i also think it's worth pointing out that, for all that build's writer/s are clearly still not immune to misogyny, misora and sawa's overall writing doesn't come off to me as 'so misogynistic it becomes gay' in the vein of idk, naruto or death note, bc again, neither of them were touted as viable love interests to male characters before getting shoved to the side in favor of primarily focusing on homoerotic m/m relationships for most of the story only to still get together with those men in the end, and the only thing build was really marketed as in terms of its relationship writing was the 'heated drama between men' stuff so you already get a sense of what's in store for you from the start, and so ultimately you also don't really feel that annoyed or 'cheated' you know? [8/?]
and then on to akaso: that anecdote was from a full interview with him and inukai from when the show was just starting out - docs . google . com/document/u/0/d/1BwqtHLs5d8Vs2YCJA7XJW3TxhaGta8jo9huEo70ehq0/mobilebasic there's only very mild spoilers for the first episode and then vague allusions to what happens in the next couple of episodes or so, but if you'd still prefer to wait until you've actually watched those episodes to read it in full, i'll just copy here the most relevant parts for what we're talking about: "Inukai: The first scene we appeared together in was…. Akaso: Wasn’t it the first encounter scene? Inukai: [...] At that time, it was really hot at the filming location. During out spare time we just tried to preserve our strength, so we didn’t talk much. Now that I think of it, that day, you were staring at my face the whole time. Didn’t anyone notice? (laugh) Akaso: I was feeling dizzy from the heat, but among all the actors, I suddenly noticed Inukai-kun’s face and was captivated by it, thinking “wow, he is so pretty...” (laugh) The director, Tasaki Ryuuta pointed it out to me. I instantly came to my senses. I’ve never stared at any actress like that before, no matter how pretty, but at that time I suddenly became dizzy and just kept staring in a daze. Turns out, it was a heatstroke (bitter laugh). Inukai: You had a heatstroke because you sensed the dangers of my body (laughs). That was the moment I decided I shouldn’t let my guard down around you. Akaso: Nononono, I wasn’t trying to hit on you!! Inukai: (laughs) Akaso: Please stop, don’t add any unnecessary mental images to the word “partners” (laughs). But when Inukai-kun plays Sento, you get the feeling that he’s a very smart person mulling over a lot of thoughts in his head, I think he looks very pretty and cool. Inukai: That makes me happy, I think. Thank you." [9/?]
so there you have it lol. apparently akaso did use the word for 'heatstroke,' but the translator of this interview pointed out on tumblr that it seems like what happened had no actual severe effects on him, so it was likely just heat stress at most and he just said 'heatstroke' to clearly get the point across or something. in general, akaso during his time on build seemed to have a bit of a pattern of saying some kinda out-of-pocket things that would make one go "oh he really had the nerve to go there huh but like... is he wrong?" like when he also infamously claimed at two separate promotional events that banjou was the real 'heroine' of the story (which makes his previous comment to inukai to not add "any unnecessary mental images to the word 'partners'" funnier) 😭 during the first event, he was asked to introduce his character and then himself, and when he said banjou's name, he added that he was the 'heroine,' at which takada kaho (misora's actor) interjected and pointed at herself to say that *she* was playing the 'heroine' and there was a bit of back-and-forth between them as both kept insisting they were the 'heroine' (all in a lighthearted manner ofc) but in the end i think akaso got in the last word before he passed on the mic to takada so she could properly introduce herself this time, although she didn't bring up the heroine stuff again from what i could tell lol. the video i watched from that first event didn't actually have subs, but you could get the gist of it especially since they said 'heroine' in english. as for the second event, i also watched a bit of its video but i don't think i got to the part where he made the comment, so i only saw later on a screenshot from that same video where what he said was translated as "then, when i read the final script, it said that kaho takada was feeling down because banjo ryuga was the heroine." [10/?]
and. well... neither of them are wrong exactly fnsjngkbs. like ofc misora filled the obligatory female lead role, but generally speaking, it seems like it was obvious even among the cast that banjou, in addition to being the typical male co-protagonist like in a 'buddy cop' type of movie or show, was the one pretty much framed as the story's 'heroine,' imo in the style of a shounen anime or manga to sento's shounen protagonist position (well, the shounen animanga with well-written central m/f romances anyway), with the implication of being sento's love interest in all but name officially also. like... it's still very much subtextual but also wow talk about the lack of subtlety here too 😭 and at that second event, there was another comment he made that made me go "okay come on don't do this to us" but it's related to spoilery series-finale and post-series material, so it's probably best that i save discussing it for when you're done watching, if ever. but well yeah i'm kinda obsessed with his mind for all that like. thank you for continuing to help us fans not sound delusional via all these very enlightening comments (i mean aside from how heavy the subtext already was in the actual story) but also what's his issue 😭😭 [11/?]
btw build isn't actually akaso's first kr show - it's amazons, specifically its 2nd season, which also got released in 2017 some months prior to build's airing. amazons is one of those aforementioned more adult-oriented toku webseries and was meant to be a 'darker and more mature reimagining of the 1974 television series, kamen rider amazon,' but it got more mixed reviews overall compared to build, especially since iirc a lot of fans think it didn't handle said darker themes too well or something (there's cannibal cultists?? i think??? idk if akaso's character hiroki was one of them though). but the upside to it is that it was precisely his work on amazons that got akaso cast on build (from what i can tell, hiroki is nowhere near as dumb as banjou, but there's a similar delinquent vibe, albeit hiroki's aesthetic seems to be somewhat edgier). i find it funny though bc hiroki is apparently a 17 year old high schooler, then a few months later akaso made the jump to playing a 23 year old (which was his actual age at the time of filming) ex-pro fighter... the range of this man jwkfjksfdlms [12/?]
on a final side note about something that's not really relevant to all that other stuff but still kinda funny: i just remembered that apparently back when cm was airing, and that moment in ep. 2 (?) where adachi forces the elevator doors open to ask kurosawa out to dinner happened, people were commenting "well that's kamen rider training for you" and yeah i definitely believe banjou could/would have done something like that. though he probably would have punched the doors in the process too, or because he's a dumbass, he might also let himself get accidentally hit by the closing doors and then that's when he'd punch them in response lmao also i think i'll save my further thoughts on the kamen rider yuri and also the few canon lgbt+ characters the series does have so far + the varying qualities with which they've been written for later messages, bc once again this has gotten far too long and there's already a lot of things here for you to process and respond to so. thank you so much again and bye for now 🙏🏼 [13/13]
thank You again for all the info omg theres so much detail again ur a legend..!! reading it is so fun too i can rlly tell u like the franchise a lot that makes me happy ty for sharing all this w me 🥺 and actually to update u i watched a couple of eps since ur last asks (currently on ep8 kdjfksj i did a littol binging) and 1) it is Very different in tone from what i was expecting! i thought itd be like . moody and serious action etc but its actually rlly silly and thats a huge plus for me i love me some silliness always and 2) did take a bit of getting used to the format (+ to akaso and inukai in these roles theyre so different from cm and odt How are these the same guys) but honestly im rlly enjoying the buildup of the mystery?? and the charas are v endearing i care them already. also i cannot believe they dropped this one me in ep *ONE*

anyway . onto misora and sawa omg theyre so good too ???? misora esp shes so funny and i keep wondering when theyll get into her whole powers deal its been on my mind since ep1 ........ these two are def not getting as much screentime ive noticed but at least the times they show up are great so far and none of that forced romance stuff which is what im used to sadly so ill take it 👍 just hope we do get to their backstories too eventually or im gonna be :(
also little cut to the villains too since theyre p prominent but although i already figured gentoku was involved somehow from the start i cannot for the life of me figure out what blood stalks deal is???? like is he just there for the drama of it all . whys he kind of helping the guys what does it Mean-
THE INTERVIEWS HELPJFKDJF ive heard legends of mr akaso eiji and his out of pocket commentary im understanding now ..... that "heroine" thing is Crazy though like surely he had to have known the implications right ????? doesnt he know that stuff is dangerous to fans come on man 😔 ur right abt the range tho im already so impressed by his and inukais acting in here since its so different from the charas they played in cm and odt but still p similar in how they do emotional scenes so im enjoying seeing those 👀
i think ill keep watching bc mostly i just. Really need to know what the mystery is (and still that "silly little rabbit has a death wish" thing, tho im starting to have a hunch about who its referring to.........) so yeah maybe ill have more liveblogging updates for u next time if ur interested in seeing my reactions akfjkdsjf
