The initial reaction Xiao-Ying had to Xie Lian makes a little more sense to me in the book. In the cartoon, after he'd just defended her, it was a little strange (although, turning to her and beginning to take off his robe still could be alarming so it wasn't really something I took issue with, I assumed she just thought this stranger might be angling for a "reward" for helping her), but a strange half-naked man appearing out of nowhere in an empty temple? Very reasonable to panic and slap him!
