(1/2) hi puddle, i don't know how to word this politely so i'm just going to come out & say it!! how do you make a smut scene sexy?! i've been reading fics for years & years & years, and your smut is top tier - to the point where i've discovered things about myself... *side-eyes flatmates*. i'm currently trying to write my first ever fic, but my smut feels very formulaic, like: they do this, and then he does this, and then this happens, then orgasms. how do i make it something a reader will
i didn’t get the second message but i assume you’re asking how to write something that’ll turn people on? first of all thank you!! 💖i’m really flattered. i’m glad my writing does that for you ;v;
second of all, i can’t tell you how many times i’ve looked at one of my own smut scenes and thought the very same thing. like it’s just one event after the other. but the thing is, you’re not the best judge of your own writing! what sounds bland and formulaic to you will be really sexy to someone else.
my advice would be to trust yourself and not hold back. if you think something is hot, and you don’t care about how carefully worded it is, you’re going to be alright. it’s easy to feel insecure especially when it comes to writing smut because there’s so much shame surrounding sex and sexual fantasies in general. but the smut that turns out the most ‘successful’ is the ones where you don’t let your own shame bleed through to the text. i’d tell you to try to be as raunchy as possible, because chances are that it’s still kind of vanilla because we never really allow ourselves to be absolutely feral so, especially in the beginning, anything sounds amazing hah.
this is just in terms of writing smut that’s only meant to be hot, though. obviously, you can do different things when you want the smut to tell more of a story or a progression of emotions or whatnot. but yeah. hopefully this was helpful. 💞
