Grimvember 2022 Day 3 - Shadow
My original characters from a sci-fi-themed show can still attempt a fantasy twist, or so I hope. Void Soldier armor design isn't final, so a simplified Night Sentinel armor will do...?
Birdbrain: "smneak preview of the next AmCyb chapter..."
why did I have to write a character perpetually coated in darkness lol Anyway, it's interesting to see how my haphazardly-gathered art supplies actually perform on paper. Charcoal is not exactly the darkest medium, and some color pencils lay down darker than others depending on brand.
Extra-fine Uni Posca black paint pen my beloved.

vector prime how would you fell if someone made a morden family style sitcome of your 13 borthers and the prime wars never happend and you all living your lives like normal cybertronias
Dear Sitcom Seeker,
I did not realize that broadcasts of my TV show had made it to your realm! Yes, in fact, in one universe, the Thirteen are stars in a sitcom. The show was originally titled Covenant, and the first season had 551,349,818 episodes; ratings were low by the end due to the heat death of the universe and changes in key demographics. Network executives tried to capitalize on a "mockumentary" style with a fresh new name: 13!. Here are some of the synopses:
"Pilot": Prima works at a dead-end paper company. He flirts a lot with an executive assistant.
"I Missed My Alarm, part 1!": Starring yours truly! I talk to a camera about how I keep on missing my alarms. The Guardian of Time, missing his alarm! Reader, imagine the hilarity! I make sure to be mugging for the camera as much as possible.
"Forging the Documents": Starring Solus Prime and Megatronus Prime. Unaired, due to conflicts between the leads.
"Clip Show": Amalgamous Prime has an entire episode built out of jump-cuts and flashbacks of other shows.
"I Missed My Alarm, part 2!": I go back in time, quite literally, to the beginning of Part 1 and undo the premise, and film the time paradox for the audience.
"Beast Whisperer": Onyx Prime visits couples who have trouble with their pets, offers them solid advice, and then eats them all.
"Do Not Watch This Show. It Will Kill You": Liege Maximo stares at the camera for 22 minutes, attempting to annihilate the thoughts of any unfortunate viewers. Unaired.
Please be sure to contact your streaming entertainment provider to catch the rest of the episodes!

Around this time last year, without the stress of a looming examination, I solidified a TF:P AU where Skyquake survived his battle against Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. For that AU, I utilized the OCs I’ve formulated in 2014.
On 24 May 2021, I uploaded the first chapter of Amalgam Cybertronia. I myself am bewildered at the work having 26 chapters, 61 kudos, 12 bookmarks, and over two thousand hits.
I am by no means stopping writing (whether fanfic or original work), I’m just delayed by societal expectations to complete a qualification and join the capitalist workforce.
I feel thankful for ongoing and new readers of the work. At this time I am slowed and stressed, but I hope the debuff wears off after the early June exam.

Conversation
Elementary Season 4 Episode 9 "Murder Ex Machina"
Mason: So why do you care? I'm just saying - he was a bad guy, now he's dead. We should go see a movie or something.
Joan: The people who killed him also killed his bodyguard and the valet who was getting his car.
Sherlock: And even if there were no innocent victims, no murder should go unsolved, and no murderer should walk free. To think otherwise is to descend into a pit of moral relativism.

I get that cartoons are allowed to be simplistic compared to the complicated nuances of real life, BUT.
if I start looking at TF:P too hard (which is what I’m doing for Amalgam Cybertronia), I will realize how much death and murder is contained in the Y7-rated kids’ show about giant robots that fight their war on Earth.
not necessarily human deaths, because that would’ve brought the age restriction higher up. But our dear heroes shooting at and ripping apart Vehicon/Eradicon goons? Apparently that’s okay for children to see, because the enemies are numerous, faceless, hostile, and not human.
And that’s without getting into portrayed deaths (vividly or not) of named characters like Cliffjumper, Megatron (disproved), Skyquake, Makeshift, etc - just in the first half of Season One.
Ohh nooo Starscream killed Cliffjumper, that is bad. He belongs to the Decepticons, so by association the Decepticons must be bad as well~~
Okay, murder is bad, yes sure. Not disputing that.
Next, Optimus had his reasons for getting his team to destroy the Decepticon spacebridge - and Megatron (supposedly) died in that explosion. The framing here is: Megatron could’ve ran away to save himself, but was obsessed with getting his huge army to Earth.
hurp dee durp, it’s his fault for not running away in the name of self preservation. the destruction is justified, this is his lesson for trying to bring an army of undead warriors to Earth~
anyway. Optimus and Bumblebee fighting Skyquake. Bumblebee proving himself a warrior by injuring Skyquake while the latter is in flight and later crash-lands. The camera shows Skyquake closing his eyes for the last time; the warrior was not even shown to be given a burial.
ohh nooo if the bad guy (who was stubbornly loyal to what the good guys see as a supreme villain) had joined the good guys, then he wouldn’t have needed to be killed off~~~ the good guys who killed him are apparently not wrong to have murdered him, though
Makeshift. Evil Decepticon (because he’s in the dark and you can’t even see his face) with the talent of disguising as any Cybertronian of similar size to him. Yeah okay, Starscream torturing the real Wheeljack is wrong. Any, uh, props to Soundwave for keeping Starscream from terminating the Wrecker?
Friendship jealousy plot line, identical bots battle it out. And when Shift!WJ is lobbed through the portal to the Nemesis, he turned out to have a live grenade on him which then explodes him to oblivion, and Starscream supposedly yells in frustration, and the scene was portrayed to be funny to the audience - because the bad guys did not manage to learn where the good guys live and destroy the good guys in their sleep, right?
which, if you’re the part of the audience that thinks too hard, maybe it’s not funny that there is one confirmed kill, maybe more Vehicon/Eradicon deaths or injuries
oh right, the audience was not supposed to pity the numerous faceless goons~~
---
I found a series of posts that I haven’t read in a long time, but the outlook still rings true today. Some of the readmores there are missing, but I can read-again the writings that are still available. (Not at my current hour of night, though.) I remembered them because I started looking too closely at portrayal of deaths in this particular kids’ cartoon.
The Nad of the past wanted to write stuff more overtly aligned to Decepticons and social justice, but did not have the knowledge or confidence to write a full story at a level and tone that I wanted.
AmCyb is not exactly that, but the AU more or less looks over the events of canon TF:P and goes “what were the original writers or producers thinking”

so, after my PC’s meltdown in the morning, I unplugged the thing and cleaned up part of its insides
and tonight it boots up at normal speed, almost as if nothing really happened
sigh. Anyways, AmCyb WIP drafting, so potential spoilers ahead
Color Paradise is the song for when Skyquake and Dreadwing bring Soundwave and Andi to meet the Neuts.
So, having to hide Cybertronian presence from human knowledge is a rule enforced among Autobots. Main reason as said by Optimus Prime, way back in S1E01: any human perceived as an Autobot ally might get targeted by Decepticons. The current stage is too early for the ’Bots to reconsider this requirement to hide, so [sighing again as I delete a paragraph of rough planning]
though let’s be real, I write too much already, it’s good to cut out scenes if I feel they don’t add to the story
For future Explosibros direction, there will definitely be a “my braincell is allergic to yours“ dynamic between them. Or maybe Underfoot has to help carry the braincells they dropped.

Chapters: 2/?
Fandom: Transformers: Prime, Transformers - All Media Types Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Summary:
This work serves to contain:
Neutral/Unaligned Cybertronians (original characters) based in Australia;
Skyquake, Breakdown, and Dreadwing not dying;
Soundwave making friends with a neurodivergent human; and
M.E.C.H. having a real purpose that impacts Earth societies and not just the Cybertronians living on the planet.
There is much to explore all at the same time, so - everything goes.

Nad: “AmCyb is undergoing long-term unbuilds and rebuilds. but in the meantime, someone is tempting me to write not-necessarily-canon smut involving my Neutralists and TF:P characters, or even just ships with the AmCyb backdrop...”
Birdbrain: [holds up signboards reading “Soundwave helps Standby ReLaX”, “Servants Of Unicron Crackship”, and “Dreadwing/Optimus when???”]
Nad: “whose perspective is that last one even from?”
Birdbrain: “Maroon’s. She saw Dreadwing and Prime from a distance, and already saw the sparks flying”

AmCyb speedster characters inside joke
So in my canon-divergent TF:P fic, Dreadwing got punched in the face by Wheeljack and Bumblebee already, and a possible part of future plans is that he’d keep from being punched in the face by Smokescreen. By punching Smokescreen in advance instead (thanks @whatudottu).
Knock Out does not punch Dreadwing in the face because, fellow Decepticon. Have to get along (unless of course there’s a huge angsty scene and KO has a reason to throw a fist in DW’s face).
Standby is a Neutralist, and would punch Dreadwing’s faceplate... with his lips/derma. Stan is a nonviolent boi.

Nad: “sometimes I’m afraid that I am writing too much of irrelevant stuff -”
Birdbrain: [wing-whaps Nad’s face]
Birdbrain: "There is NO such thing as writing too much in fanfic! Oh, lots of filler events? Too many events that could not have fit into a cartoon’s schedule? You are ONE writer, and the fic’s scene can take as long as your attention span allows! The Archive has enough room for you, my dear insecure anxious human.”
Birdbrain: [wing feathers smushing Nad’s cheekbones]
Birdbrain: “This is an entirely different format, and every individual has different reading speeds or attention spans. You may think you’re putting in too many words or repeating certain events from different points of view - that is valid fiction as well. If two officers experience not-same events in the same hour, how about a warlord who seems distanced from the debacle? And this is hecking different from canon; you have a right to portray the divergence as much as you want.”
Birdbrain: “You’ve GOT This!”
Nad: “thank you birb for your logic and slapstick efforts to make me feel better about the wordy things I’m doing”

Birdbrain: “oh my gosh, is it time for more Bully Silas scenes?”
Nad: “kjsdhfbjlrg birb pls, do we have any better name than that”
Birdbrain: “don’t deny it. I’m excited because our author stand-ins get to tell Silas why his means (remote-controlled bots) and ends (exploiting technology for his sole gain and entertainment) are childish”
Nad: “his toxic masculinity is not gonna take the lessons well...”
Birdbrain: [evil grin] “that’s what we’re countin’ on, innit”

kinda wanna update AmCyb, but am also still working on composing scenes
interactions between characters take place, but I also wanna move the plot along
this chaotic mix of so many characters and sides is making Operation: Breakdown the longest ever episode of TF:P in my AU

bottom text: “being found in awkward, totally-explainable situations by Laserbeak”

Birdbrain is sorry in advance for what is to happen to Dreadwing’s face (again)
How Birdbrain pictures Smokescreen’s arrival on Earth
Autobots groundbridge to the place where the “relic” dropped
Smokescreen is up and awake. The Autobots inquire who he is and where he was before he landed on the planet
Dreadwing (and maybe a few Neuts) arrive slightly later, treading up behind the ‘Bots
Smokescreen: “Decepticon!”
Smokescreen: [runs up and punches Dreadwing in the face]
...
Alternatively, Dreadwing (who has had enough of being punched in the face by racecar bots) gets ready for the punch and throws Smokescreen over his head

the undeadening of a TF:P OC (and an underused canon character)
so we know from Shrike’s backstory that she killed Polymeria on false orders
but Birdbrain wants it to be the case that Polymeria gets reincarnated as a Predacon named Luminyr at the end of an AmCyb’d version of Predacons Rising
Or wait - if Breakdown and Skyquake did not die in the Amalgam Cybertronia continuity, there’s no reason for Shockwave to use their genetic material in Predacon clones Darksteel and Skylynx.
Birdbrain: “is there anything left of Makeshift to salvage?”
[rambling explorations under cut]
TFWiki will have other points of reference for how Makeshift would’ve looked. It seems such a waste that a unique Cybertronian like him gets killed off in the first episode he appeared in.
Birdbrain: “hence, why not make him a Predacon clone”
Potentially unstable clone. That’s where a standard Cybertronian flyer like Polymeria comes in. Whether her corpse was reported and taken in by a Decepticon scout, or recovered and buried properly with a good memorial, Starscream could hesitate at the thought of resurrecting an Autobot, even as a Predacon clone. Or, I dunno.
Shockwave: “In death, there is no Autobot or Decepticon. Given your familiarity with the workings of Dark Energon, Starscream, you should already know that.”
Makeshift’s alternate (Predacon) name could be Skysickle. In terms of dragon sibling dynamics, he can be the grumpy one and Luminyr cheerful.
As of now, further details are unclear. Birdbrain just wants Polymeria as a Predacon, and with at least two other characters “undeadened”, we call a different candidate into play.
Within AmCyb continuity - if Luminyr’s spark remembers her past life as Polymeria, and she meets Shrike... oof, it’s gonna be awkward
She would get along pretty well with Manticore, though. And when she learns about the long, drawn-out war between ’Bots and ’Cons that carried over to planet Earth? She’d probably be happy she missed most of it. Despite her use as a soldier, she did not relish the killing and violence that took place.

AmCyb development + Birdbrain’s Ultra Magnus feels
Timeline arranged; soon to compose the paragraphs. Estimated: events of this fan version of Operation: Breakdown might have to stretch across three chapters (including the currently published Ch17 “Breaking Down Barriers”).
Adding the Shadow Partner and their Void Soldiers into the AU is more than throwing a wrench into the existing canon: “it’s more like throwing an entire cereal bowl into the machine’s components. A greasy cereal bowl of oil and bolts,” says Birdbrain. [Further TF:P canon thoughts even farther below cut; time for some UM feels first]
Some chara backstory to the Gable flashback in Amalgam Cybertronia Ch17: the Decepticon sparkling mentioned was raised to be Shrike, whose military upbringing was overseen by Ultra Magnus (at the top level anyway) and a number of middle-ranked sergeants. Within that setting, Ultra Magnus was the one who made sure Shrike wasn’t outright abused by those sergeants.
Ultra Magnus was the closest thing to a parent to Shrike in her early years. He often stated how proud he was of Shrike’s accomplishments, how strong she is.
After her Mistake? In his mind and spark, he knew he could not attribute Shrike’s Mistake to her hidden Decepticon heritage. Even when she admitted that she should have felt wrong or should have questioned the falsified command, Ultra Magnus could only blame Shrike’s too-loyal, too-obedient upbringing.
When she asked if she had permission to terminate herself (because she is now a traitor to Autobots), he almost cried. If he said yes, one of his top soldiers would die a betrayer, a mark of shame on Ultra Magnus and all Autobots under his command. If he said no, it meant admitting that the values he indirectly taught her were wrong. That meant every praise he gave her in the past was hollow, and the way he had raised her was flawed.
He said no, and left it at that. He did not have the strength to admit his own mistake in front of Shrike. What he said instead was that Autobot High Command could put her on trial (court martial, in Earth terms). Optimus Prime heard about the incident and wanted to pardon her.
Unfortunately, Shrike was taken as a Decepticon prisoner during a raid before she could be tried.
Birdbrain: “Ultra Magnus often comes across as a rigid stuck-up who wants everybody to follow the rules and respect authority. But we know a lot of things in TF:P are heckin chaotic, and imposing some form of order in his space is a way of establishing order IN HIS LIFE. It is not right that Cybertron is gone, it is not right that Autobots had to live in constant battle with Decepticons, and he just wants the war to be over. Yeah, Underfoot swore at him because she had her own principles, but those clashed against UM’s own principles.
“And besides, even if he seemed like a strict hard-ass, he actually cares, like a lot. He doesn’t want his allies to be hurt in this extended state of survival and emergency. That’s why he wants the Autobot-Decepticon war to end as soon as possible.”
Birdbrain: [inhales] “ULTRA MAGNUS IS DAD, I WANT HIM TO COME TO EARTH SOON”
Elsewhere in Birdbrain’s domain...
Underfoot: [standing in front of Shrike] “My daughter now.”
UM: -_-
++++++++++
(Spoilerish, relating to TF:P canon being Crisscross after Operation: Breakdown)
Bird asked Nad: “With M.E.C.H. being micromanaged by a rich, actually-high-tech sponsor, who’s to say the Void Squad won’t successfully capture Airachnid? I mean - seriously, Silas? Just FIVE field troopers including yourself to capture a ‘wounded’ Decepticon in the middle of nowhere?”
Silas, on the show: “Suppression fire only, we take this one alive.”
Birdbrain: “What, and no tasers like he used on Breakdown in the previous episode? Da feck did he mean by ‘suppression fire’, just lead bullets? How effective were those against Bulkhead and Breakdown? Did you learn at all, little man?”
Nad: [shuts Birdbrain’s beak before she can wordvomit even further about what will happen after the chapterS they were supposed to be writing]
