is anyone else who has gravity falls on dvd just absolutely obsessed with the commentaries? they have them for every episode, it's the whole episode in the background with alex hirsch and at least one other person who worked on the show (sometimes voice actors, sometimes writers, sometimes artists, his twin sister one time, etc.) doing commentary over it and i dunno they're just so comforting to me, like i just watch them over and over again and will never get tired of doing so. and they're sooooo funny and you learn so much cool stuff about the show and they're great! and all of the people are just so great, like i'm way too attached to all of them lol

some personal highlights: (some might be paraphrases, i dunno)

- "i'm alex hirsch and i'm not rob renzetti" "i'm rob renzetti and i'm not matt chapman" "i'm matt chapman and i'm BOTH alex hirsch and rob renzetti" "whoa really?" (introductions at the beginning of commentary for Into the Bunker)

- "i'm matt chapman and i'm an ungodly monstrosity" "not JUST an ungodly monstrosity, the ungodly monstrosity who wrote this episode!"

- every single time alex says something as a character he plays (stan, soos, mcgucket, bill, quentin trembley, etc.) ("uh oh! gravity is a real problem in this town! i'm quentin trembley" - commentary for Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future; "this is what dates are like for Stan!" - commentary for Roadside Attraction; "yeah yknow, say whatever you want, then you won't see them again, other people don't have feelings" - commentary for Roadside Attraction) (ahhh they're so much less funny written out than they are when he actually says them i promise)

- jeff rowe wanting to be called stabby the boss cat (commentary for Blendin's Game)

- every time they mention how alex chews on pens

- "what if the love potion comes from cupid, and what if cupid is... mike rianda" (commentary for The Love God) (hmm I don't know if this is funny out of context for who mike is, well that's not my problem!)

- the whole thing about jason ritter getting a bit electrocuted by a ms. pacman video game when he was a kid (commentary for Fight Fighters)

i will probably add more as i rewatch more of them. but yeah the commentaries are the best!!!!!!

Here are their parents! With what the teens and the two will be facing ;w; first! By order! And Otsana’s wolf appearance. Also: I had no idea what background to make, so I had to borrow a background from Ibis Paint X ;w;

Both Nicole’s and Alden’s backstory are tied with their children’s. I will skipping to their •Now sections. All expect Otsana’s.

Age: 39

Origins: Texas USA

•Now

Once she awoke into the Ministry, she waisted no time as she fought tooth and nail to escape.. unfortunately she was outnumbered and quickly immobilized to fight back. That’s when she met a silver haired woman, wearing a lab coat and yellow eyes looking down at Nicole, but in all honesty, Nicole was scared of course…but she really didn’t care who this “Scientist” was. All that she can think of is getting out and finding her sons, but the woman in front of her had other plans.

The other woman ripped Nicole’s left sleeve off as she injected her with the Joy Serum. Screaming in pain as Nicole headbutts one of the Doctors and fought off more… but the more she resisted them, that’s when she felt both her body and mind in a great agony. Collapsing on the ground as Nicole began to hold herself from the pain she felt, the world spinning around her while something began to claw into her mind… a sickening false emotion… Joy?… no, this can’t be right!

Now panting in pain as she looked up to see a blurry figure walked to her and more followed, the last thing she saw was the same silver haired woman. Smiling down at her and eyes flashed like fire… hearing a voice trying to comfort her while trying to make her forget everything from her past, especially trying to erase her name…

Yet for Nicole, she can easily hear and see the lies from what this voice is trying to tell her. Instantly rejecting it as she remembered her late husband… and her sons. Causing her anger to grow, but the voice intensified… trying to bring her down into submission, but that only gave fuel to an angry fire. Finding her strength to get up and tried to headbutt to who ever is trying to force her under…

Waking up to see she rammed her head onto the Silver Haired woman. Yet she heard what sounded like a dog growling angrily, it was unfortunately fast and a blur… Nicole looked up to see yellow eyes glaring down at her. As she heard a new command echoing in Nicole’s skull…

“Sleep…”

Causing her to blackout… unaware what happened and what she saw. As a few hours passed she awoke to find herself in a cell and her arm covered in bandages. Still feeling a terrible illness coursing through her body and still clawing her mind… but that’s when someone called out to her…

•Alden Belig Belle

Age: 44

Origins: England UK

•Now

A day before Nicole arrived, Alden suffered a great torment. Not only injected with the Joy Serum, but was dragged through a room full of gas. Laughing Gas, and yet the man didn’t budge due to not wanting to give his captures the satisfaction… but he wasn’t prepared for the next one. Thanks to the Serum and Gas, he felt his mind crumbling along with his willpower.. that’s when he met… her.

A silver haired woman, her hair stained with yellow and gray on the ends of her hair… but Alden felt a horrible aura out of her… but he doesn’t know what…or why… but he soon find out why. He was dragged by the guards as they followed the woman to a darken room with only the moonlight to illuminate. Now thrown into isolation with the woman, Alden used his remaining strength to push himself away from the MOJ Scientist but that’s when he noticed her eyes… glowing under the moonlight as the air felt heavy for the man.

Especially… his eye lids?… The more he looked at her, the more he felt himself going under some sort of spell… and he was. The woman got close to Alden as he continued to resist her power…but it wasn’t enough. As he slipped into the abyss… echoes of her words trying to force him to forget both his old life and name… but there was one thing he’s holding onto for dear life, his daughter and his late wife. The day he met Mary, their marriage , and learning he’ll be a father, while also remembering Eleanor was born as he held her close and lovingly, to now… supporting her through the most challenging times he and his daughter are still going through.. He can’t leave her, and she’s all he has left!

He was able to resist the woman and tackled her… but she didn’t budge… he hit something fluffy, and now very angry. He was smacked away to the wall, looking up to see a taller figure with pointed ears, teeth, claws, and a tail… but the eyes. They were intense as he heard one final command in his mind…

“Sleep…”

And just like that, he fell into slumber….

He awoke to find himself back in a familiar cell… growling angrily and feeling his head in pain, trying to remember what happened but it was all hazy. Now steadily getting up to look around, until spotting a different woman in a separate cell. It was Nicole.

Both him and her discuss a plan to escape. He and Nicole need to return to their children, and will fight their way to get back to them… little did they know, their children are also on a mission to save them.

•Otsana Felix Risa

Age: 42

Origins: ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️

Her past and origins are unknown to the advocates, employees, scientists, agents, and guards. Except the higher ups in the Ministry, all that was known is that she appeared to the Ministry wounded but full of purpose. The rest has been classified to prevent worry from spreading.

In her time in the ministry, she has gone through training of the Marmalisation to build up an understanding of what she is getting into and what branch she wishes to join. While at the same time, having gone through Marmalisation to also understand what it’s like… and to lock something within herself away.

Out of all of Five Sections, Otsana chose the Hypnotiser. Even studied science to test and under medically to use her Joy Serum syringes, but to also use them on herself… She held a secret from everyone except the Ministry, that she is a Werewolf or a Dogman from where she use to come from when she used to live at ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️. Thankfully with the Ministry’s help, she was able to tame her beast-self and use her strength and power to aid the Ministry’s goal.

After her time and training, it truly paid off as she is now head of the Hypntoiser section, mixing it with her beastly abilities it can be potent enough for three days of the full moon, all couldn’t resist… all except two. Otsana heard a new Advocate named Alden has been brought into the Sanctuary, and her assistance has been required. She brought him alone to fully marmlise him or at least break him down further. While Alden was put under, she formed into beast to make sure Alden is fully submitted… but Otsana was surprised to see him resisted and tried to tackle her… that alone made her angry.

Bashing him into a wall and use her hypnosis to put the man to sleep, as well making him forget what he saw and tried to fight against. Sighing heavily as she returns to human form… strange, this is the first time. Ordering the guards to put him in the holding cells, planning to figure out a plan to make sure Alden is fully Marmalized.

However, her interest spiked as she heard not only a new Advocate has been sent to the Sanctuary, thus wanted to see if she can help break the new subject’s will… but she is in for a surprise.

Using hypnosis again to break Nicole’s will, only to witness a rage wild fire refusing to fall… just like Alden. It didn’t help that her skull clashed with Nicole’s, causing the scientist to fully form out of anger and putting Nicole to sleep as well.

After that scuffle, she sighs as she went to recover from being headbutted and allowed the Ministry to Marmalise her to ease her anger, but that’s when Otsana heard a group of Trouble Makers entered in with a storm…

•Now

Otsana now aids the Ministry in locating and capture the teens. Yet she noticed something from the brothers that formed a new type of Joyful Energy. Seeing the two use their instruments to form their new attacks and defenses, unaware what their goal truly is… being extremely impressed that two people were able to form access from what they love doing.

As she studied the two more and more. Otsana had her eyes on Tobias, due to learning the boy is going into the early stages of Marmalisation after consuming the park goods. Now forming a plan how to pick off the group, and since they are still young with developing brains… she and the Ministry are able to Marmalise them with no issue.

Ordering everyone to capture any one of them, but her main interest is Toby. Thus, her hunt begins to capture the teens and Ein… but during her hunt, both Alden and Nicole are planning an escape of their own…

Otsana is surprisingly very sweet to her fellow MOJ colleagues and fully Marmalized Advocates. Yet she will get snippy if one of the higher ups calls her “Pup” due to being a beast, and she will become scary to those who are resisting to be Marmalized.

Last weekend, Alonso Ramirez Ramos from Disney Television Animation was escorted to the stage at the 46th Annual ANNIE Awards to a thunderous entrance of none other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song!

Kevin Molina-Ortiz, LMU Animation '16 exclaimed “A 'Moonlight' moment! A great way to kick off 2019!" This wasn't an exact recurrence of the 2017 Oscars blunder, but the announcers did make a preliminary error by failing to proclaim a tie for "Best Storyboarding in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production".

The prestigious ANNIE award, the most esteemed recognition from the animation industry, was recently presented to Ramirez Ramos of Disney and our own Lion Molina-Ortiz. Having worked at Nickelodeon as a Storyboard Artist for two years, Ramino-Ortiz received this honor in consideration for his work on “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” episode “Mystic Mayhem.” Furthermore, he has since been promoted to Director level with respect to that same series!

Professor Tom Klein of Animation couldn't be more proud of his student, Kevin. "Not only was he a star pupil at LMU but I had the privilege to work with him on both his thesis and sophomore film," said Klein. "I knew from day one that this kid has something special, and now animation studios are taking notice too." Indeed they have – evidenced by Kevin's ANNNIE Award in his early twenties! The sky is the limit for this young talent as there will certainly be much more about him soon.

As for me, I am just as inspired by Kevin and all of his wonderful achievements. My desire for storytelling combined with my passion to solve problems have driven me to pursue a technical career in animation and visual effects. Working as a software engineer on the production technology team of Walt Disney Animation Studios has opened up many opportunities that I would not have had if I didn't take the plunge into the animation world. It has truly been an amazing journey and one that I hope to continue for years to come!

Seeing Kevin's success is a reminder of what you can accomplish when you put your heart and soul into something. His accomplishments serve as a source of motivation and inspiration not just for me, but for aspiring engineers and animators everywhere. I am so proud to be part of a community that encourages innovation and celebrates success. Congratulations Kevin - you deserve it!

These Mets Won't Fight

As I begin this post at precisely 9:55 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, it’s possible – though extraordinarily unlikely given the history – that by the time many of you read it after this afternoon’s Mets-Brewers game scheduled to start at 1:40 p.m., the Mets will finally have stood up for themselves and begun to shed the well-earned reputation as a flaccid laughingstock.

In the first two games of the 2024 season, the Mets are already justifying the widespread perception throughout baseball that they can easily be pushed around and will meekly and perfunctorily stand up for themselves without actions to back up their talk. This is not a recent phenomenon.

Jeff McNeil’s complaint about Rhys Hoskins’s slide was not without merit. The circumstances muddy the waters in determining who’s at fault. Hoskins did slide late and collapsed McNeil’s knee. McNeil seemed to have lost his flow for the attempted double play when he tried to transfer the ball from his glove to hand. The screaming match that followed was indicative of what the Mets have become and why the rest of MLB mocks and humiliates them at every opportunity.

Hoskins was perplexed and dismissive of McNeil’s complaints. It was not a Chase Utley dirty play. For Hoskins, a player who lost his entire 2023 season when he blew out his knee, it’s highly unlikely he was doing anything but trying to break up the double play. Still, if McNeil was mad enough to fight, then fight. Instead, he shouted and gestured, both benches and bullpens emptied and nothing happened.

In the aftermath, the keyboard warriors thundered on X, Facebook and in blog posts as to how the Mets “had” to respond. The ancient “it’s time to retire” scribes retreated to the team’s glory days as to what this team should do in response. These are the same people who’ve never been in a fight in their lives and are staring into their bathroom mirrors playing “baseball brawl guy.”

“Drill Hoskins!”

“The Mets need to stand up for themselves!”

“Enough of this!”

“Ray Knight would’ve…”

And of course, as if it was preordained, the Mets yapping resulted in Hoskins shoving it completely up their asses by going 3 for 4 with a home run, 4 RBI and more emasculating right in their faces. Only late in the game did Mets pitcher Yohan Ramirez throw behind Hoskins sparking more screaming and accusations, but no fisticuffs.

Big deal.

In the years since the Mets’ late-1980s badassery when anyone who looked at them wrong would wind up on the wrong side of a Ray Knight punch or a Kevin Mitchell chokehold, the organization has desperately tried to get back to that two-fisted “mess with one of us, you mess with all of us” attitude that had them feared and hated throughout baseball. That entire roster was not just filled with gamers who wanted dirt on their uniforms and would do literally anything they needed to do to win, but it was filled with guys who could legitimately fight. In addition to Knight and Mitchell, Darryl Strawberry was one of baseball’s most intimidating figures. Even mild-mannered types like Tim Teufel and Gary Carter wouldn’t hesitate to drop the gloves when challenged. The first base coach/batting instructor Bill Robinson essentially took on the entire Pirates roster and started a brawl after accusing Pirates starter Rick Rhoden of cheating.

This filtered down from manager Davey Johnson, through the coaches, to the team leaders Keith Hernandez and Carter down to the last guy on the roster. “We are not your buddy and we want you to hate us because we’re gonna kick your asses on the field. If you got a problem with it, we’ll kick your asses in general.”

This team?

Pete Alonso is built like a truck but the one time the Mets finally fought back after getting drilled and buzzed repeatedly, he got thrown to the ground by Cardinals first base coach Stubby Clapp who’s about half the size of Alonso.

He got thrown to the ground by a guy named “Stubby.”

It’s ironic that the Mets are wearing a memorial patch to the late Bud Harrelson when their behavior as a team is diametrically opposed to what Harrelson would have done and did when, in the 1973 National League Championship Series against the Reds, he challenged Pete Rose when Rose slid hard into him. A massive and extended brawl ensued with players throwing punches instead of barking at each other, issuing limp threats and making crying gestures.

McNeil railed at Hoskins and…did nothing.

The benches and bullpens emptied…and nothing happened.

The Mets asked for a review of the slide to see if it should have been called a double play for violating the slide rule…and lost.

They then complained to the league.

Terrifying.

This is not a singular experience. The Mets’ reputation throughout baseball is that they’re soft. They were constantly thrown at in 2022-23 and did next-to-nothing to retaliate or to charge the mound and make clear that it would either stop or there would be consequences.

The Braves laugh at them. The entire league ridicules them. And they asked for it. Apart from a few random years under Terry Collins and Dallas Green, the Mets – particularly during the Bobby Valentine years – were known for not showing a willingness to fight when necessary. Former manager Buck Showalter adheres to old-school values and presumably would not have minded if a player took the initiative and charged the mound during his two years at the helm. Carlos Mendoza? His first spring training and start to the year indicate he’s another empty uniform automaton who’s going to do what he’s told by the front office and is unsure of how to respond to these direct challenges to his club’s manhood.

Those in the media, the blogosphere and on social media who are bellowing from the rooftops that the Mets just need to start a fight. For them, there’s a lack of understanding as to what built those mid-1980s teams in the first place. For the most part, they were young and reacted emotionally; they grew up together and had a bond that was crafted through the minors and making the innocent climb to championship contention; they were akin to a street gang in a close-knit neighborhood where outsiders were ill-advised to venture wittingly or otherwise.

It’s certainly possible that Saturday, March 30th was the day the Mets finally decided enough was enough. It’s also possible that aliens will land at Citi Field at 3 p.m. and kidnap Mr. Met to be their new deity.

Considering the team’s history, nothing is going to happen. If it does, it will be for show and not as a show of force. Until they bring in people who have that intense competitiveness within them and are willing to stand up for each other, they’ll continue to be the joke they are and teams will repeatedly shove them around with impunity.
