#just spent over an hour writing an antrag for a severely disabled ukrainian refugee girl#who is being housed in a refugee mass shelter#(which has no space to safely prepare the special food she needs#and where only one of the bathrooms is wheelchair accessible#which is basically always in use bc theres too many people living in the shelter#shes living in one room with her whole family#which is obviously even less available space if you have to use a wheelchair)#and anyway the whole time i had to think about this absolutely braindead post#that some people shared on here#where it was framed as ~white privilege that the ukrainians got to move into the mass shelter facilities#while afghans (who often had been living in these mass shelters for far longer than intended) were moved to regular housing#bc our government finally realized after the taliban takeover that most of them wont go home for the foreseeable future#and like completely separate from any opinions about the ukraine war or weapons deliveries or whatever#if youve ever looked at people who had to flee from war#and thought wow they seem so privileged to me#theres something deeply wrong with you that no amount of reading leftist theory#or posting progressive shit on social media will fix#literally the only hope you have is go out and volunteer with real life refugees

September 2023
#1. started at refugee camp nr 7 (I think). was asked to do a hearing test first for one of the guys and I thought he was Arab bc one of the#supervisors spoke Arabic to him when I saw him but we found he’s actually also Afghan! which was quite funny. not so funny was the fact#that I had taken the machine with me but had left the charger somewhere else so I couldn’t actually do the test. so I had to drive to our#office and go back for the test. when I came back my client had actually prepared these things for me/us 🥺 which is very Afghan and sweet#of him. he said he was just really happy to see someone that’s also Afghan#2. this month I actually was really consistent with my journaling so I’m happy about that#3. we have a cat now and even though I was one of the people that was against it. I would kill for her#4. my parents and I picked fresh walnuts and actually got quite a lot#5 & 6. we have our annual company gathering / party and it was really fun! it was organised well. we had some good food a live band#& a dj (I requested 2 songs and they agreed but didn’t play either one……) and there was also a photo booth which is always a good time.#I def think I’ll also do a photo booth when I have my wedding#7. have started slowly decorating my hobonichi#monthly recap

#i just got to my best friends house#she lives the next province so i dont get to see her much#she just broke up with her boyfriend of 6yrs and kicked him out of their apartment#so shes throwing a house re-warming party to like. reset the Vibes#and we sat on the couch and literally just talked for four hours straight#and i realized that we havent had a chance to do that uninhibited (ie. without our partners around) in like. years????#it was so good. girl love and friendship and connection is everything to me#and i came partially because i was worried abt her but she is THRIVING#shes replaced all of the stuff he took with pink things and it makes me sooo happy to see#the cherry blossom shower curtain and the rose pink dishes and the pink afghan and the blush pink sheets#that post thats like. you hang out with your friends and you go home with a little ball of warm golden light in your chest#yeah.#and we're just STARTING im here for FOUR WHOLE DAYS#im sooo excited#anyway. i hope youre all doing well and feeling loved. i love you#molly speaks#long tags

#ive spent the entire day doing volunteer legal help for refugees who cant afford lawyers#and theres something so INSANELY fucking alienating#about spending hours writing an appeal for a gay man whos asylum claim got denied#BC HE DIDNT CONVINCE THE ASYLUM AGENCY THAT HE SPENT SUFFICIENT TIME AND EFFORT TRYING TO LIVE AS A GAY MAN IN IRAQ#(from his very asylum hearing on he described his homosexuality being discovered#by his family member and how he could flee the house in the time it took his father to get his shotgun#and the physical violence he suffered from another family member#and how one of his uncles took ~pity on him bc he was only 18#and gave him money to leave the country#under the condition that he would never return or contact the family again)#and seeing all these dehumanising and heartbreaking things in his file#including super out of line questions etc#and then go out and see the buses and trams of public transport all have these like cute rainbow flags#like i cant imagine how it must feel like for him#(or all the other lgbt afghans iraqis ugandans etc that i know)#but it literally makes my fucking blood boil#like actually one of the biggest arguments that get used against lgbt iraqis#(and other non-western lgbt ppl)#is the argument that lgbt rights are just a ~western degeneracy#and then these people come here#(the ones that manage and don't die either in their home countries or on the way)#and then they realise that yeah we're all so proud of our lgbt rights#its not just legal - it's also an advertising gimmick and a state sponsored party#except for people like them#we're completely comfortable sending them back to their deaths#and like his chances for appeal are actually quite good#but it's literally down to volunteers to even write that#and there are SO MANY cases like that
