Ya'll really need to check out this AA4 DLC
Check out my Non-disbarred/DD Phoenix AA4 sprite redraw here.
(Full sprite redraw below the cut)
Again, this is a fake screenshot. I like to imagine the Trilogy characters actively being in AA4 okay
Anyway, I'm back with another sprite redraw--and it's a redraw because technically I redrew the 3D Spirit of Justice model to fit the style of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, the AA game I think has the nicest looking sprites.
Because unlike Phoenix Maya wasn't in AA4, this was a little trickier. I do think Maya's model in "Spirit of Justice" is quite nice, and I love her post-time-skip design. She's gorgeous and she looks so much like her sister it makes me feel things.
Thankfully, when it came to drawing Maya in the style of AA4, Ema looks similar to Maya in principle, so I looked to her to get the drawing right. I also looked at concept art of Maya from "Spirit of Justice". My screen looked a bit like this as I was working.
Eddy is next. :>

So I made a Dats Are'bal art today.
And below the finished piece, you can click the readmore to see some process!
Big thanks to @adorkastock , the eternally invaluable reference library that gave me a great starting point for this pose.
Below the cut, the process. All alt-text talks about the process for building up this picture.

Y'all I am so proud of myself lately, I've done some real art progress!
First: Some fanart that doesn't look like fanart.
I designed this with intentions of it being a fanfiction cover later on. It's Datz Are'Bal from Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, peeling an apple with a kukri knife.
I had a very specific vision for this and I really think I nailed it. I'm really trying to learn painting and colour and how colour plays in to light and shadows.

And Maya's back!! Hello Maya!!! I hope you've been having fun with your training in this suspiciously shinto ambiguously continental asian fictional country!
I wonder how long the flight is between japanifornia and tibekistan

I got the Apollo Justice Ace Attorney Trilogy on Switch. It came today (technically yesterday at this point) and I started replaying AJ a few hours ago. I'd forgotten how intelligent Trucy is. I just finished the first trial day of Turnabout Corner and she's already noticed things before Apollo did several times. She'd make a darn good lawyer herself, TBH.

also on soj i see a lot of theorizing as to why it fell short but the big things for me are that the two relationships the entire thing hinged on to make the story hit home (apollo and dhurke, apollo and nahyuta) were just. not well written. like the problem isn't that they were brought out of nowhere with no allusion in previous works - so was dahlia, so was morgan. but dhurke and nahyuta weren't written with any actual consideration or care, so they're flat and uninteresting even though this is the most deranged balls-to-the-walls setting in the franchise
and i think it was too fantasy. it should've been darker and grittier. show me khura'in struggling with poverty and neo-colonialism and drugs and access to clean water, show me rayfa and nahyuta struggling to put a broken country back together in a way that isn't a joke because it really is just so huge in scope. there's so much MEAT to it they could've gone into and they just.... didnt? it should've taken itself seriously. shu takumi makes literal petty workplace disputes into grand sweeping psychological horror police procedural epics. like come the fuck on

You can list one favorite and least favorite. And you can't say Edgeworth is my favorite in investigations for example, you can only name him in the First Ace Attorney game. That applies to every character.

Please tell me Dhurke did not just insinuate that Apollo should marry Trucy, the seventeen year-old (AND SECRETLY HIS SISTER).

I think there's honestly something so fulfilling about Phoenix being our Mia for the final case in Spirit of Justice.
He starts out as a rookie lawyer on his first ever murder trial, and he ends as the rock for another lawyer he's taken under his wing, and there's something so satisfying about him having come full circle.
