Bloomsburg University names new associate VP for institutional effectiveness
Bloomsburg University’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Diana Rogers-Adkinson, has named Mary Lou D’Allegro as the university’s associate vice president for institutional effectiveness.
D’Allegro comes to BU with 25 years of experience in higher education, specifically institutional effectiveness and research at West Chester University and most recently at Columbia State Community College in Tennessee where she was the vice president for academic affairs. Her experience at both large public and small private higher education institutions has proven to be valuable in her role as a college administrator. She has also taught at the high school, college, and graduate levels.
In support of BU’s mission, D'Allegro will provide leadership and guidance in the areas of institutional effectiveness, compliance, research, planning, accountability, accreditation, assessment, and data reporting.
“I am very much looking forward to working with the faculty and the institutional effectiveness staff,” said D’Allegro. “During my visit to campus in December I was impressed with everyone I met.”
D’Allegro started her higher education career as a research associate at Warren County Community College in New Jersey. In her most recent appointment, she was the accreditation liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC). In that capacity, she helped Columbia State submit the Fifth Year Interim Report and Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). She has also served as the accreditation liaison officer for both the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission. She was a member of several evaluation teams for Middle States. Throughout her career, she has also been involved in several program accreditations, including education ( National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Preparation/Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation), Social Work (CSWE), Nursing (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing), Engineering (Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology), and Business (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs).
As associate provost at Paul Smith’s College in New York, D’Allegro supervised institutional research and was the lead for the college’s Middle States self-study and coordinated the visit by the evaluation team. Before that, she was the associate vice president for academic affairs/institutional effectiveness at Siena College.
One of her notable accomplishments has been to guide institutions in the development and implementation of comprehensive assessment processes. In that role, she worked with faculty and staff to create assessment and evaluation systems that positively impacted student learning. She also developed and conducted several employee trainings, both online and face-to-face, and created the Council of Teaching and Learning at Siena College. The purpose of these educational opportunities was to help faculty and staff stay current on important issues in higher education, teaching, and assessment.
“Dr. D’Allegro brings to Bloomsburg a wealth of experience and knowledge in this area while working at both large and small and public and private institutions,” said Rogers-Adkinson. “She fully understands the needs and importance of this office to a university and we are fortunate to have her joining the BU family.”
D’Allegro has conducted research focused on institutional peer and aspirant studies and in particular, the statistical methodology to determine the most appropriate set of peers for institutional comparisons and benchmarking. With that research, work with the American Society for Quality (ASQ), and collaborations with other institutional effectiveness staff and faculty, she has helped to devise several institutional dashboards and scorecards for the purposes of strategic planning and continuous improvement.
D’Allegro earned an Ed.D. in higher education leadership at Nova Southeastern University in 2002. Her dissertation was nominated for an Outstanding Dissertation Award. She also has an M.S. in management from Stevens Institute of Technology, spending her first year in graduate school as a Stanley Fellow.
