サナギュトリウム:さまざまな出来事を要因にサナギ化した人々が、ぶじ羽化する時を待つ場所(造語)
「自他の表裏一体性や親和性」を画題にモザイク画を制作する小林望美。その作風は石や、ガラス、貝殻などの小片を寄せ合わせてつくる装飾美術技法ではなく、写真のメディウム転写に始まり、ブロックノイズや低解像度の画像などから着想を得て変遷してきました。
2016年以降は木製パネルへ描いたモザイク画を彫刻刀で彫り、溝へ金属色を流し込むといった独自のスタイルを確立し、手掛ける作品は現在も進化変容を遂げています。小林のモザイク画は、現代社会とその中に存在する個人を細かなモザイク粒子とその集合体によって暗喩した作品が多く、彫る行為は個を明確に区分し存在を刻み込む意図で用いられてきました。
SNSを利用した広域での交流が容易となった現代社会において、各自が保有する当事者性から起こる主張や保護を巡る衝突は顕著になり、さまざまなキャンセルカルチャーやヘイトクライムがより盛んに巻き起こった2023年。現代を生きる作家として、本個展では彫る行為をいったん休め、調和や、安全な繭・サナギの中で新しい時代へ羽化する時を待つ人々を細かな粒子で表現しようと試みた新作を発表します。

Artistic Devotion – A Journey Through Horror And Success With Red Candle Games

Scaring players has helped put the small team at Red Candle Games on the map. Its first two titles, Detention and Devotion, impressed and terrified fans with frighteningly strong horror chops, but the team is leaving that behind to tackle something completely different in Nine Sols. This side-scrolling action platformer blends sci-fi with Chinese mythology and is Red Candle’s most ambitious project yet. This significant step forward affords an opportunity to look back on the studio’s young history, so we spoke with co-founder Vincent Yang to learn about how a small band of gamers in Taiwan formed one of the industry’s most promising – and, at one time, controversial – indie studios.
Red Candle Games began in 2014 when designer Coffee Yao was developing a prototype for Detention. The side-scrolling horror game features two students exploring a haunted high school in 1960s Taiwan, incorporating local cultural references rarely seen in games. These elements drew the attention of Henry and Light Wang during an indie developer meetup in Taipei. According to Yang, Detention impressed the Wangs enough for them to join the project. As the game grew in scope, the three recruited help from mutual friends – Doy Chiang, Hans Chen, and Yang himself – bumping the yet-to-be-named team to six members by late 2015. After working remotely on Detention for a period, the group decided a physical office was necessary, which led to the official formation of Red Candle Games.
Detention was released on Steam in January 2017 and was well-received by critics and players. The game has since been ported to multiple platforms and even adapted into a live-action film in 2019 (it premiered in the U.S. in 2021). Additionally, Netflix and Taiwan’s Public Television Service released a Detention TV show in 2020 – though with a different story from the movie.

Devotion
Red Candle followed this success with Devotion, an atmospheric first-person horror game set within a haunted apartment. Moving from 2D to 3D development is a big design shift, but Yang believes regularly changing gears like this is necessary to maintain fan interest.
“Because in this ever-changing and competitive gaming market, we often find it difficult to impress the players by applying the same techniques repeatedly, which pushes us to keep delivering new and innovative ideas,” Yang says. “This, in turn, changes the way we make games.”
After over two years of work, Devotion arrived on Steam in February 2019 to heaps of praise from the lucky players who managed to get their hands on it. But only two days after its launch, the game riled up controversy among Chinese players thanks to a piece of in-game art mocking China’s president, Xi Jinping, by calling him Winnie the Pooh, referencing an internet meme that unfavorably compares the leader’s appearance to the character. China and Taiwan have a tense relationship, so the resulting backlash from the country’s players and the government was severe enough to force Red Candle to pull Devotion from sale. The game’s Chinese publisher even lost its business license.

To the dismay of horror enthusiasts, Devotion remained delisted for over two years. Inklings of hope would occasionally arise, such as PC storefront GOG announcing plans to re-sell the game before it immediately back-peddled due to vaguely defined player complaints. Fortunately, Red Candle finally began re-selling Devotion directly through its website in March 2021, bringing its tumultuous journey to an end. Red Candle could move forward. “As a team, we felt relieved, as if a heavy weight was lifted from our shoulders,” says Yang.
Moving forward meant stepping away from horror to do something different. Enter Nine Sols, which Red Candle started working on a few months before Devotion’s original launch. Yang says the game originates from a concept he envisioned years prior based on the story of Hou Yi. In Chinese mythology, Hou Yi is a legendary archer who used his bow to rescue the country from plagues and saved the moon during an eclipse, among other supernatural feats. Yang proposed reworking this story into a science fiction tale, an idea that intrigued his teammates.

Nine Sols unfolds in the realm of New Kunlun, a sanctuary for humans created by nine god-like rulers. However, the population is unaware of New Kunlun’s sinister true purpose. That changes when a child awakens Yi, a cat-like hero that history has forgotten. Yi embarks on a quest to slay the nine rulers and free New Kunlun. The adventure sports a manga-inspired hand-drawn art direction blending cyberpunk/sci-fi with Chinese fantasy and Taoism. Gameplaywise, Nine Sols is a fast-paced 2D Metroidvania with Souls-like combat, as players hack apart enemies using Yi’s sword and parry attacks in a manner directly influenced by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The project is a gamble, as the team leaves its comfort zone to make its first action platformer. Yang says with its art assets, gameplay mechanics, levels, animations, and 12-15 hour length, Nine Sols is the studio’s biggest title yet. But the team needed to do something different to avoid feeling burned out on horror while also taking advantage of the flexibility its team size affords.

“Being an indie developer, in a way, makes us more versatile and gives us more room to be creative, meaning we have the privilege to experiment on different topics and gameplay,” Yang says. “It’s then reasonable that we want to leverage that versatility and explore other possibilities wherever we have the chance.”
Nine Sols is Red Candle’s first action game, but it’s leveraging its narrative chops to craft what Yang hopes will be a compelling story filled with rich lore to create what he describes as “a new kind of action platformer” – one with equal emphasis on engaging gameplay and storytelling.

Detention
Nine Sols also marks the team’s most serious attempt at penetrating the Western market. Detention and Devotion, despite their success, still appeal to relatively niche audiences. On the other hand, Nine Sols combines two very popular subgenres, and Yang hopes that results in the game making the biggest splash possible overseas and putting the studio on more people’s radars.
Nine Sols is currently slated to launch in Q1 2024, but curious players can play a free Steam demo. Depending on its success, the title could be a launch pad for other experiences that don’t focus exclusively on frightening players.

“If given the opportunity, I think we’d love to explore other genres in the future,” says Yang. “Deep down, we are simply a group of game creators who love all kinds of games. So as long as we ensure the product we produce will have guaranteed quality and doesn’t disappoint our current and future supporters, I find no reasons for us to be locked into the horror genre.”
As for Red Candle’s future, Yang believes maintaining its small size has its benefits. Since Devotion’s launch, only three new employees have joined, while one has left, meaning the studio has grown from 11 to 13 full-time staff members. While he’s happy with the advantages of running a small team – smoother communication and more room to experiment – he’s not opposed to expanding the studio’s size if needed. “I envision us as a resilient team that can embrace and adapts to any possible changes regardless of our size,” Yang says.
Nine Sols is the biggest test yet for the studio, eschewing almost everything that brought it success in an attempt to broaden its appeal by tackling a competitive genre. But Red Candle Games has proven its ability, resiliency, and versatility over its relatively young existence. We’re excited to see how it continues to delight – or terrify – its fans going forward.

History of Skyscraper Appreciation Day
Skyscraper Appreciation Day was initiated and founded by Dr. Tom Stevens. Interestingly, it was created so that the general public could admire the structural and architectural brilliance of skyscrapers. Furthermore, it also celebrates the triumph of reason, as well as man’s ability to construct industrial masterpieces that go far beyond expectations.
This important day is situated on the anniversary of the birth of one of architecture’s most important and famous names, William Van Alen. Back in 1883, this native of Brooklyn, New York was born and, after studying in Paris, Van Alen would eventually go on to design the famous, art-deco style Chrysler Building, which is one of New York City’s most iconic and well-known landmarks.
In today’s world, skyscrapers continue to push the limits of architecture, offering a wide range of features. For instance, Taipei 101, is the world’s tallest and largest green and sustainable building, while The Shard in London has a unique layout of a “vertical city”, where a person could theoretically live and never leave!
Skyscraper Appreciation Day offers a wide range of opportunities to learn more, join in on events, and generally have a soaring celebration in honor of these architectural feats!

Consider visiting one of these famous skyscrapers from around the globe:
Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Built in 2010, this one will stand as the tallest building in the world for more than a decade, at 2722 feet, holding at least 19 records.
One World Trade Center, New York City, USA. Officially the tallest building in the western hemisphere, this one was built in 2014 and stands at 1776 feet, as a nod to the year that the US gained her independence.
The Petronas Tower, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Not just a single, but a double, this one holds the record for the tallest twin tower in the world, joined by a skybridge at the 41st and 42nd floors.
Gran Torre Santiago, Santiago, Chile. The tallest building in South America was opened in 2013 and offers a postmodern style for its 62 floors.

Ayano Sudo (14th October 1986–) was a Japanese contemporary artist and photographer known for her disguised self- portraits, and photographic works of various kinds.
She graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts and Music with M.A. in 2011.
Profiles
She was born in Osaka pref., Japan in 1986, and spent her middle and high school days in Ashiya city, Hyogo pref., Osaka’s neighboring city with population of more or less 100,000.
She graduated from Akashi Prefectural High School art class in 2005.
In 2009 she went to France to study painting and conceptual art in the exchange student program at Ecole des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts), Paris.
After the study in France, she came back to Japan, and finished the conceptual design course to graduate from Kyoto City University of Art and Music with M.A. in 2011.
At present she lives in Tokyo.
She captures the desire for transformation and ideal images that transcend the gender of the subject in photographs, and presents flat works that appear to be between the color manuscripts of shojo manga (少女漫画) or girls’ comics ( Japanese comics) and photographs. One of the features of the work is that the actual work is printed on photographic paper with its own texture, decorated with rhinestones and glitter, etc., thus making her finished works uniquely glitter under lights.
While in Kyoto City Art University, she was awarded Yasumasa Morimura (森村泰昌, a Japanese appropriation artist)Award in MIO Photo Encouragement Award 2010 in Osaka, Japan.
Since then, she energetically presented her works overseas and held her first solo exhibition at 1839 Modern Art Gallery (1839當代藝廊) in Taipei, Taiwan in October of the same year.
2014, she received the Grand Prize of Canon New Cosmos of Photography Contest (写真新世紀Shashin Shinseiki; a photo contest sponsored by Canon Company, one of the two big photo contests in Japan open public for young future photographers)for the series “幻想(Illusion) Gespenster” featuring herself dressed to missing girls who had really existed. A collection of works with the same title has been published by HOLOHOLO BOOKS in France.
As an artist she has energetically been working on exhibiting her works in various exhibitions and art fairs in Japan and overseas. Also, her varieties of photographic works have been appeared in books and magazines in Japanese and overseas markets as well.
Her works are stored in the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography, New York, USA and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (東京都写真美術館, Tokyo-to Shashin Bijutsukan ), Tokyo.
Major solo exhibitions include “Omokage (面影)-Autoscopy” (at Hillside Forum, Tokyo, 2015) and “Ayano Sudo Photo Exhibition Anima / Animus -featuring to introduce Kuniyoshi Kaneko’s Room-” (at Ginza Mitsukoshi 7th Floor Gallery, Tokyo, 2018).
Major group exhibitions include “ I know something about love; About Love Asian Contemporary” (at Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (TOP), 2018), “Photo City Exhibition” (21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, Tokyo City Photographic Exhibition held at TOP, Tokyo, Japan, 2018), “Internet of (No) Thing: Ubiquitous Networking and Artistic Intervention” (at Jogjakarta National Museum, 2018), “SELF / OTHERS”, a dual photo exhibition, (at Canon Gallery S, Tokyo, 2018), etc.
Her main works include “Metamorphose” (2011-), which depicts herself and her friends disguised as an ideal figure regardless of gender, and “Gespenster (幻影、illusion)”, a self-portrait taken as a real missing girl. 2013-14), “Omokage(面影), Autoscopy” (2015) with the motif of such phenomenon as oneselves looking like totally different persons (2015), and among others .
Since 2020, Ayano Sudo has released the art magazine “The peppermint magazine (薄荷) ”, which is created by collaborating with other artists in each issue.
Episodes behind the works
■ In an interview, Sudo told that she finds beauty in beings that sway in all boundaries born in society, such as gender, generation, and races, and also does she find beauty in danger that even life and death are sometimes vague, and Sudo shoots a series of works that do not exist in this world. She says that the feeling of strangeness that she feels in reality is regarded as an " uncanny valley " and she has a desire to overcome it .
■ One of Sudo’s distinctive works is a work that uses a self-portrait technique. Sudo, who strongly believed that she had been a boy since the childhood, and got dressed like a boy. However, when he became a junior high school student, he began to wear Lolita fashion, which was popular among young girls at the time. One of the reasons for this was her strong desire that she wanted to be liked by the admirable ideal senior boy student she had met in her school.
Due to this discomfort with gender from an early age, Sudo’s desire to transform has sprung up, and she has taken a self-portrait in a costume and made it into a work. Sudo says that the series of early works (2011, 2013, 2018) was an act of searching for her own sexual identity, she told in the interview.
In her subsequent productions, Illusion or Gespenster ((幻影)、2013-2014) and MY POSTMORTEM (2018), Sudo pursues the relationship between her body and her identity.
“Illusion(幻影)/Gespenster” “Illusion” (2013-2014) is a self-portrait book of photography created in her twenties from her experience to come across with a notice put on the wall of a railroad station about missing girls whose whereabout unknown for more than twenty years and that’s why and how she began to get dressed like the girls on the poster.
It consists of 21 self-portraits and a few snapshots. Sudo says that, with respect to the series of this work, she couldn’t think of anything else but a self-portrait which could be realized by superimposing the emotions of herself over the emotion of the missing girls that those girls might have at that time.
The production process begins, at first, with making a list of missing girls
and doing in-depth research of every each of the girls’ profiles. Then, she searches for second-hand apparel shops to find similar clothes the girls in the poster wore at the time of missing, and then shoots in the place nearby her house.
When the print is completed, the finished printing paper further is sprinkled
with glitter like lame, and other glittering objects.
She feels an unspeakable sense of fear toward the girls who have gone to a mysterious world, and at the same time, another thought struck her. That is, they may now live in a land they don’t know, or they may have become corpses somewhere they don’t know. However, the girls on the list will be separated from the timeline of the world when they disappeared, will not grow old, and will remain intact for ever.
Sudo has a longing and strong consciousness for “being a girl” in her body and spirit, which is moving away from the girl every moment, and feels a certain kind of “sacredness” in them, and their existence again. With the above event in mind, she began trying to confirm the missing girls’ existence once again and present it in front of people .
In an interview with the New York Times , Sudo said the title of the photobook Gespenster, meaning illusion or ghost in German, was inspired by the novel “Sasameyuki.” or “Makioka Sisters” written by Junichiro Tanizaki, a famous Japanese novelist.
■ “Teriha no Ibara/照葉野茨 ( a memorial rose)”
“Teriha no ibara” is a new series of her self-portrait photographic work, the motif of which came from “Makioka sisters” appearing in the novel “Sasame Yuki/細雪 (Light snow falls)”, one of Junichiro Tanizaki’s masterpieces.
In the series of the work, photos of the house of Ashiya (an old house resided by Saika Tomita, a well-known Japanese poet) and Tanizaki’s beloved furniture also are included. Also, she appears wearing her grand-mother’s Kimono and various accessories.
Sudo’s grand-mother was a traditional Japanese teahouse owner succeeding the business in 1945 from her father, a founder of the teahouse under the name of Ogawaya founded in 1910.
She reopened the teahouse together with her mother which was destroyed by an air bombing in the last war to become officially the owner of the teahouse in 1945, and opened a geisha house of Ogawaya at Shinmachi, Osaka.
Since 1950’s, the geisha house had been made use of by many Kansai celebrities for entertaining their guests, such as well-known Rakugo tellers like Beicho Ktasura and Kobeicho Katsura, famous comedians Kon Omura and Itoshi &Koishi Yumeji, and Kabuki players, such as Ganjiro Nakamura, Tojuro Sakata, etc.
This Geisha house now is deemed the last and only traditional house available in Semba and Shinmachi districts, Osaka.
Ayano Sudo has made her own experiences vitalized in creating her original artistic and photographic works, learning from the Tanaizaki’s novel “Makioka Sisters”, and getting motif from the women of modern time, i.e. the women of the time when Hanshin Modernism was born and grown in Osaka and Kobe areas in Taisho and early Showa Eras.
She has always been making which ever happens to her be the subjects for her own photography.

2022 2月28日、ロシアの特殊軍事作戦開始の4日後に目の前の事故で愛猫を失う。外猫のキジは腕の中で息を引き取り、キジの意思を尊重して外に出したことを後悔する。自由意思を尊重することと、今の社会の仕組みの中で安全に生きていくことの天秤の扱いを誤ってはいけないと考えるようになる。
10月、カラーホールシリーズを完成させる。人生の中で大きな絶望に見舞われたり、愛する誰かを失ったりしたときに、祈りを捧げたり、心を預けたりする場所が今の社会には無いため、その受け皿になる架空の場所としての作品を作りあげた。
2023 古着をリメイクして、絵画的なデザインの服をたくさん作るようになる。

“I am Amber, a 29 years old Taiwanese girl. I started my running journey since 2014 and Triathlon for 7 Years. I am a scuba dive instructor, love the ocean and mountain, love sharing, and always outside.
The story of how I came to start running, back in 2015, I was still hustling through college, stressing over that transfer exam. One day a mate asked if I'd be down to join this chill running team. They promised good company, cool running spots, and interesting chats. I was curious and thought WHY NOT?
We were rocking the Nike+ app back then, and the organiser was this GPS Picasso, creating awesome shapes on our running routes. So, for my first-ever run, picture this: I'm in a Superman cloak, wearing Nike Air Force kicks (not the best for running), and throwing on some short jeans. We hit the streets of Taipei, everyone vibing high and having a blast. Crazy thing is, I smashed 11km that night!
The next day my legs were screaming, but I couldn't wait for the next run. It was crazy - I never thought I could pull off running that far. It blew my mind how positive vibes could turn things around. The combo of good company, positive energy, and the thrill of running... Life-changing! It's not just about the distance, it's the feeling of accomplishment, those endorphins kicking in, and connecting with awesome humans. And the organiser's GPS art just added a whole new level of fun. And let's talk about my outfit choice – Superman cloak, Air Force kicks, and short jeans – total madness, right? But it added this fun vibe to the whole adventure. Running with a crew in a supportive setting does wonders for your body and mind.
During my study days, I was heavily into dancing, but the demands of the college transfer exam forced me to step away from the dance group because practice sessions often ran late into the night. That's when I discovered running - a more manageable time commitment and a fantastic way to connect with some genuinely cool people always up for an adventure.
Joining the running community opened up a whole new world for me. The folks I met were not only fantastic running buddies but also amazing individuals from whom I learned a lot. Every run became an opportunity to enjoy the moment and soak in the positive vibes. It was a refreshing change, and I appreciated the flexibility it offered in my schedule.
So, from being a dancer to hitting the pavement, I found a new passion that not only kept me fit but also introduced me to an incredible group of people who shared my love for running and adventure.
After running with this group for two years, completing numerous 10k and 21k races, and even conquering the full marathon with them, I had built a network of amazing people. Then, one day, someone in the group came up with the idea of signing up for a triathlon. My immediate thought again was, "Why not? Sounds like a blast. I’m in!" There was just one hiccup - I wasn't exactly a swimmer, especially in deep water. So, I opted for the easier version of the race that allowed me to use a swimming buoy. Once the decision was made I just signed up for the swim course, diving headfirst into my first-ever triathlon training. I was so pumped that I didn't end up using the swimming buoy, and even registered for a 10k run the day after the triathlon race. And you know what? I got hooked. It was mind-blowing to witness all the hard work pay off. I discovered a version of myself I hadn't really met before and realised I was stronger and more capable than I ever gave myself credit for.
One of my highlights has been Cairns IM 70.3 in 2023. All the hard work paid off. 1.9km Swim, 90km Bike, 21km RUN. Swim 40 mins, Bike 3:03, Run 1:56 - 5:47, A massive PB and pure happiness. My past triathlon before this was six years ago, and I finished it in 6 hours and 33 minutes. Back then, my run never went sub-2 hours. Fast forward to now, I achieved a running personal best in the 70.3 distance after seven years of doing triathlons. It hit me – I've never really pushed myself hard and put in the effort like I did this time. Legs were hurting, but my brain was stoked. After navigating through numerous heartbreaks in life and taking a hiatus from training when I first started travelling, I can proudly reclaim the title of Triathlete. Grateful that I'm still capable of stepping onto the course and shining once again.
Queenstown Half Marathon 2023 was another highlight. My first Half Marathon in New Zealand with a PB 1:50h! Got the transfer slot 2 weeks before race, wasn’t really training for it but just keeping fit. The weather was mint as but the run course was beyond my expectations! Thought it would be a flat road but it turned out to be rolling hills and most of them were trails. Most of my time during race was in pain and not very enjoyable. But this race has amazing scenery and reminds me that I have to be stronger!!
Now I am running for myself – not only to meet people but to stay fit, happy, and healthy. I find it nice when I can dominate my time, be dedicated, and disciplined. It's also fantastic to explore a new place through running and give myself a break from the noise in my brain caused by all the realities of life. I've found that keeping up with running is the only emotional outlet to keep my brain fresh and my mind healthy.
Since I've been away from home for years, travelling can sometimes be a bit stressful for me due to the unstable life and loneliness. People around me come and go, and most of the time, I'm always on the move. I have to relocate to a new city and change jobs every few months because of visa limitations, adapt to a new work environment, and face different challenges in each new place. So I enjoy meeting people in a different kind of way - running.  
Meeting people through running, runners from around the world all share a similar vibe – they're happy, strong, brave, and have a solid mindset. Regardless of why they run or their fitness level, I respect anyone willing to break their comfort zone, embrace discipline, and I'm genuinely happy to get to know these amazing individuals.
Staying fit makes me mentally stronger during my days wandering around the world, and it makes me feel better and happier when I feel LOST while chasing dreams. I won't stop running, and I aspire to grow stronger, both physically and mentally, continually exploring my limits.”

Things Said Once - Esperanza Collado
Performance y conversación posterior
Lectura coreografiada que involucra el uso de libros, rollos de películas, plantas, diapositivas de 35 milímetros y un proyector de películas de 16 mm. El texto representa una oda al cine como experiencia e incorpora varias citas de pensadores y cineastas a partir de la investigación de la propia Collado sobre formas de paracinema. Según la autora “Things Said Once es una declaración de arte y un elogio para el cine en reconocimiento a su historia y nuestra responsabilidad en el presente”. Escrito como un poema, el texto se construye en torno a una comprensión del cine como experiencia en sus dimensiones espacial, temporal y comunitaria. A nivel formal se presenta como una performance, una lectura en un entorno elaborado que incluye gestos, acciones corporales y objetos a través de los cuales se revela el propio texto.
Esta performance, en diferentes versiones, se ha representado y ha ido evolucionando desde 2015 en espacios de arte como Taipei Contemporary Art Centre (Taiwán), Lajevardi Foundation de Teherán (Irán), Centro Cultural de España en Montevideo (Uruguay), Centro de Cultura Montehermoso (Vitoria), la Cinematek de Bruselas (Bélgica), Galeria Microscope de Nueva York o el CCCB de Barcelona y en festivales como Oberhausen (Alemania), Bristol Experimental and Expanded Film (Gran Bretaña) o Punto de Vista (Pamplona).
El 9 de febrero del 2014, Esperanza Collado inauguró la primera edición de El Cine Rev[b]elado con la performance Ensayos de la evaporación (We only guarantee the dinosaurs) 10 años después regresa a este ciclo, cerrándolo en una suerte de bucle, y compartiendo una nueva performance que continua su práctica e investigación dentro del cine-expandido y de quienes forman parte de ello.

« In Transit  »
In this piece « In Transit », CHAO Shu-Jung first collects and records poems, essays and songs about rain and water from different countries. Afterwards, she transcribes them onto strips of paper, which in darkness, rain and mist slowly fall into a pile in time with the rhythms of the songs and the cadences of the recited poems. To the artist, the rain and water represent philosophical, literary and aesthetic viewpoints, which exhibit a labyrinthine visual metonymy in space and time, like the sense of distance and vacancy between people.
In this piece, she tries to guide the viewer on journey of experience through varied sounds and sights amid unfamiliar words and languages, arousing a deeply layered sense of alienation and giving the viewer’s conscience the chance to interact with the exterior world, producing a continually expanding shock and reverberation.

我收集了十幾種代表不同國家有關「雨/水」的詩、散文或是歌曲。並且根據國家的出處及語言的對應錄製了十幾種附有「詩意」的聲音。 (中文、意大利語、臺語、西班牙語、英語、俄語、日語、阿拉伯語、德語、法語)
在日常生活中, 雨和水不但和我們息息相關, 並且又代表了許多哲學. 文學和美學的觀點。雨和水在時間和空間上,不但有著如迷宮般的多重呈現與視覺上的轉喻,並且又加強了人與人之間的疏離感和空虛感。
這件作品就像是帶觀者去經歷一場旅行。一場每個人內心中的旅行。藉由不同的聲音語言及多重層次的觀感,種種內心的奇異感接踵而來地慢慢浮現了,時間 空間彷彿煞那間靜止了,就有如到了一塊重不曾到過的領域,自我抽離的距離感和時間感不斷的被加深。內心的探索不斷地和外在世界經驗的結合,並產生了共鳴和 迴盪,喚起了許多深層的想法: 旅行、游離、異國、多種文化…
一種自我存在感及私密感不斷地被增大… 一種無限感覺的經驗遊走在自我意識和世界之間…

Je collectionne une dizaines de poèmes, de citations et de chansons de différents pays, qui ont tous trait au même thème « la pluie / l’eau » et correspondent à des enregistrements de voix, de chuchotements dans la langues d’origine.
Selon le cinéaste taïwanais, Tsai Ming-liang, la pluie et l’eau sont le fil conducteur pendant tout le film. Il pousse à l’extrême le cinéma moderne de l’incommunicabilité et de la vacuité, exploitant le thème de l’eau qui coule associée à la vie qui va. La pluie et l’eau évoquent les aspects aquatique, poétique et délirant. Il s’agit de plusieurs spatio-temps. La distanciation (la nostalgie et le dépaysement…) se rend comme étranger à soi.
Ce projet « In transit » qui s’agit d’une promenade telle une déambulation à l’intérieur (de soi), un aller-retour entre les sons doublé d’une zone poly-sensorielle ; un territoire ni d’ici, ni d’ailleurs, une distanciation évoquée et une suspension du temps. Un voyage exploratoir à l’intérieur (de soi) revoie et renforce le mouvement du déplacement. Une façon de confronter aussi les divers modes de déplacement principaux que sont le tourisme, l’exotisme et le multiculturalisme…
Le sentiment de l’existence finit par être immensément augmenté…
On finit par avoir à la fin du visionnage un sentiment infini de la conscience de soi et du monde…

耿晧剛1969年生於台灣,自東海大學美術系畢業後,赴義大利米蘭布雷拉國立美術學院(Accademia di belle arti di Brera)就讀,跟隨Diego Esposito教授主修繪畫與裝置藝術,開啟了觀念藝術的思考。返台後曾於時尚流行品牌Hugo Boss任職數年,並於2008年起任教於銘傳大學商業設計系與東海大學美術學系,獨特的成長背景與留義經驗,讓耿晧剛成為不自限的創作者,不斷地翻新創作樣貌,從生活的體驗與敏銳的感知出發,反映於多元的作品中。耿晧剛作品曾展出於��阪藝術博覽會、台北當代藝術博覽會,並且為國美館、高雄市立美術館、台南市美術館及其他私人收藏單位所典藏。耿晧剛現生活與創作於台北。

KENG HAO KANG
Keng Hao-Kang was born in 1969 in Taiwan. After graduated from Department of Fine Arts in Tunghai University, he studied under Professor Diego Esposito at Accademia di belle arti di Brera, Italy, majoring in painting and installation art. The life and the study in Italy inspired his thoughts and development toward conceptual art. Keng worked for Hugo Boss afterward, and has been teaching in Ming Chuan University and Tunghai University since 2008. The unique background of growth and study along with the work experience have influenced his diverse creative styles. Keng’s work has been showcased widely at Art Osaka, Young Art Taipei and collected by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Art, and other important private collections. Keng currently lives and works in Taipei.

<展示ステイトメント>
サナギュトリウム:さまざまな出来事を要因にサナギ化した人々が、ぶじ羽化する時を待つ場所(造語)
「自他の表裏一体性や親和性」を画題にモザイク画を制作する小林望美。その作風は石や、ガラス、貝殻などの小片を寄せ合わせてつくる装飾美術技法ではなく、写真のメディウム転写に始まり、ブロックノイズや低解像度の画像などから着想を得て変遷してきました。
2016年以降は木製パネルへ描いたモザイク画を彫刻刀で彫り、溝へ金属色を流し込むといった独自のスタイルを確立し、手掛ける作品は現在も進化変容を遂げています。
小林のモザイク画は、現代社会とその中に存在する個人を細かなモザイク粒子とその集合体によって暗喩した作品が多く、彫る行為は個を明確に区分し存在を刻み込む意図で用いられてきました。
SNSを利用した広域での交流が容易となった現代社会において、各自が保有する当事者性から起こる主張や保護を巡る衝突は顕著になり、さまざまなキャンセルカルチャーやヘイトクライムがより盛んに巻き起こった2023年。現代を生きる作家として、本個展では彫る行為をいったん休め、調和や、安全な繭・サナギの中で新しい時代へ羽化する時を待つ人々を細かな粒子で表現しようと試みた新作を発表します。

Edith Amituanai
Edith Amituanai was born in 1980 in Auckland, New Zealand. In 2005 she completed a Bachelor of Design (majoring in photography) at Unitec Institute of Technology, before completing a Master of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland in 2009. In 2007, Amituanai was the first recipient of the Art Foundation’s Marti Friendlander Photographic Award. The following year she was nominated for the Walters Prize at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Amituanai undertook the Taipei Artist Village Residencyin 2014 and was the inaugural artist-in-residence at the Hastings City Art Gallery in 2017. She has exhibited extensively in galleries and museums across Aotearoa and internationally in Australia, Austria, Taiwan, Germany and France. Her artwork is held in national collections including Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Govett-Brewster Art Gallery. Amituanai is represented by Anna Miles Gallery, Auckland.
Edith Amituanai: Double Takeis the first exhibition to survey artist Edith Amituanai’s practice in its entirety. Presenting over 60 photographs, it provides insights into the various bodies of work she has produced since 2003 which draw attention to the experiences of Pacific people as well as other diasporic communities both within New Zealand and further afield. Imaging people and domestic spaces in her immediate neighbourhood of Ranui in West Auckland and extending to Samoa, the USA and beyond, she provides a lens on what she describes as a ‘third-wave migration’ driven by diverse economic and social forces that propel the movement of Pacific Island communities from their homelands. Double Take invites us to reconsider these works for the critical insights they reveal of the artist’s use of and belief in the photographic medium. Suspended in place and time we see the inner and outer worlds of those pictured and, for a moment, envisage ourselves there.

Edith Amituanai is an artist I worked closely with in year 12 and 13. their passion for photographing her community made me drawn to photographing mine. she is such a nice person and has so many creative ideas when it come to telling stories through a lense. I honestly love the way she captures people around her especially this photo on top. i think its so cool because they arent posing they are in the moment and you can see the joy and expressions on their face.

this mask here was one I made while I was in the hospital in year 13 my art is a lot better now

Patricia Piccinini
Patricia Piccinini was born in Sierra Leone and lives in Australia. Her work encompasses sculpture, photography, video and drawing and her practice examines the increasingly nebulous boundary between the artificial and the natural as it appears in contemporary culture and ideas. Her surreal drawings, hybrid animals and vehicular creatures question the way that contemporary technology and culture changes our understanding of what it means to be human and wonders at our relationships with – and responsibilities towards – that which we create. While ethics are central, her approach is ambiguous and questioning rather than moralistic and didactic.
“My practice is focused on bodies and relationships; the relationships between people and other creatures, between people and our bodies, between creatures and the environment, between the artificial and the natural. I am particularly interested in the way that the everyday realities of the world around us change these relations. Perhaps because of this, many have looked at my practice in terms of science and technology, however, for me it is just as informed by Surrealism and mythology. My work aims to shift the way that people look at the world around them and question their assumptions about the relationships they have with the world.”

In 2003 her exhibition We Are Family represented Australia at the 50th Venice Biennale before touring to the Hara Museum, Tokyo (JPN) and the Bendigo Art Gallery, (AUS). Her solo museum survey exhibitions ComCiência at CCBB toured to São Paulo, Brasília, Rio De Janeiro and Belo Horizonte in Brazil and was named the most popular contemporary art exhibition in 2016 by The Art Newspaper. Other solo museum exhibitions include Curious Affection at QAGOMA in Brisbane, En Kaerlig Verden at Arken in Copenhagen, Relativity at the Galway International Art Festival, Hold Me Close To Your Heart at Arter Space For Art, Istanbul, Once Upon a Time, Art Gallery of South Australia, Relativity at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Evolution at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, (tiernas) Criaturas/(tender) Creatures at Artium, Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain), Hug: Recent Works by Patricia Piccinini at the Frye Museum, Seattle, and Des Moines Art Centre, Des Moines (USA), In Another Life at the Wellington City Gallery, Wellington (NZ), Call of the Wild at MCA, Sydney and Retrospectology at ACCA, Melbourne. In 2013 she was commissioned by the Centenary of Canberra to create The Skywhale, which was joined in 2020 by Skywhalepapa.
Patricia Piccinini received a BFA from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne in 1991. In 1994 she initiated The Basement Project Gallery in Melbourne, which she coordinated until 1996. She is represented by Tolarno Galleries, Melbourne, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney. In 2014 she was awarded the Melbourne Art Foundation Visual Arts Award. In 2016 she was awarded a Doctor of Visual and Performing Arts (Honora Causa) from the Victorian College of the Arts and appointed as Enterprise Professor at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. Her studio and home are on Wurundjeri country in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia.
