two plus two equals

A 6x13 coda. Mostly word vomit. Enjoy(?)

Buck’s sous chef abandons him as soon as the cookies are done. He takes one look at the meat and vegetables Buck is pulling out to prep, declares that boring cooking, snatches a cookie so warm it droops in his hand and goes to the living room to finish his book for his class’s reading challenge.

Buck doesn’t mind, the cookies were the fun part, after all, and he likes that Christopher is comfortable enough in his space to just go hang out and ignore him.

So he chops and seasons and sears, and after a while Christopher wanders back over to supervise until he gets bored again and asks if he can watch TV now that he’s finished his book. Buck agrees and pretends he doesn’t see another cookie disappear from the cooling rack.

He’s so focused on not over-cooking the asparagus that he doesn’t notice Eddie’s arrival until he speaks.

“Hi honey, I’m home,” Eddie says, an unmistakably joking tone, but his voice is still as soft as ever. A softness that seems to be reserved only for those in this apartment.

Buck shoots a smile over his shoulder. “Hey. Dinner’s almost done.”

Eddie nods and comes into the kitchen. He glances into the living room where Christopher’s so glued to the television he hadn’t even noticed his father’s arrival. “Oh good, he finished his book,” Eddie says, and it spreads warmth through Buck’s chest that Eddie didn’t even question if Buck just let him watch TV without doing his homework. The trust Eddie has that Buck will just do the right thing for Christopher…It takes Buck’s breath away if he thinks about it for too long.

He turns back to the food, cursing when he sees the asparagus is on the verge of burning. He hears Eddie puttering around behind him while he salvages the vegetables, and then Eddie speaks up again.

“Buck, there are three cookies missing from this rack.”

“Three?” Buck practically squawks, spinning around. He looks at the incriminating third empty spot on the rack, mouth open to defend himself until he looks up at Eddie and his gaze catches on the tiny smear of chocolate on his bottom lip. “Hmm. Might want to wipe your mouth before you go pointing fingers.”

Eddie grins, a bright, beautiful thing, before darting his tongue out to collect the chocolate. Buck turns back to the stove and tells himself the heat on his face is from the pan in front of him.

He opens his mouth to ask Eddie to set the table, but Eddie’s already there, pulling out three of everything. Half the sets, because everything Buck bought came in sets of six. He doesn’t know if that means anything. He feels like it should. Maybe it just means he needs to rotate the stacks in his cabinets so half the sets aren’t getting all the wear and tear.

He won’t though. Later they’ll wash these dishes together, and he’ll put the three plates on top of the three left in the cabinet, the three glasses in front of the three collecting dust, three forks on top in the drawer. Maybe those three forks will tarnish faster, maybe the color will fade from the plates, maybe a glass will get chipped.

He likes the idea that Eddie and Christopher are so intertwined in his life that they could wear out his dishes. It brings to mind the comfort of sagging blue couch cushions.

He smiles to himself as he plates up their food. If he’s always viewed his life as one big equation, and now he’s good at math, maybe it means the solution is right in front of him.

Something Has Shifted: A Buddie Story feat. Oliver & Ryan

This has to be OUR season. Not only do we have proof with everything said about upcoming episodes that set them up going canon perfectly. But it’s also in the behaviors and body language of Oliver and Ryan who portray Buck and Eddie. Not only them, but everyone else has been acting differently when it comes to them. Which tells me they all know something is up. Something has definitely shifted and it can’t all just be coincidental and for nothing. I simply will provide you all with a compilation of everything that’s happened this season and you can come up with your own opinions ☺️

Ryan and Oliver officially refollow each other back on IG after 18 months since they originally unfollowed each other.

Aisha blesses us with first BTS of both Oliver and Ryan on set. They’re of course sleeping but it’s the start of everything that made me go 👀 bc we haven’t gotten Oliver and Ryan BTS in so long. This is the first of many BTS content shared by this queen.

August 1, 2022

First cast BTS of the new season, which is in fact a group photo including Oliver, Ryan, Aisha, Kenny, and one of their other paramedics. Ryan and Oliver are standing next to each other, rather a bit too close.

Oliver then posts that photo to his IG page. This is the first time he posts any BTS with Ryan since s3.

Fox Instagram posts both Ryan and Oliver by their trailers to promote the upcoming trailer for the new season. This drives us all wild bc they’ve refrained from using the two of them together to promote the show since s2! They look cute and close and it’s definitely something we haven’t seen in so long!

FoxTV posts a tiktok including Aisha, Oliver and Ryan. Once again they’re slowly using both men in their social media promotions when they’ve refrained from it for years.

Oliver shares a blooper from the upcoming ET segment where he says “Season Sex.”

ET shares a picture of Ryan and Oliver being all smiley to promote the segment before it airs.

ET segment is glorious and the interaction between the two is very flirty. They’re so comfortable with each other and easily touch each other like second nature (Ryan touching Oliver’s bicep).

I also wrote a full on body language meta on these two during this interview which explains why I think something had already shifted this early on.

For the first time in a while, Oliver shares fanart to his IG story again. It’s all of Buck, however 80% is the pictures is of Buck during important Buddie moments. He’s feeling comfortable to share these again!

Oliver does an interview which he talks about how Buck and Eddie are “borderline co-parenting.” Like we all been known but it’s wonderful to get that confirmation from one of them.

Ryan posts his first Oliver video to his IG. It’s of Oliver on top of the fire truck. They’re all joking and laughing and having fun.

Oliver than shares the video to his IG story. Once again, this hasn’t been something they’ve done in literal years, especially Ryan who’s mostly refrained from posting any BTS content in previous seasons.

Also there’s a photo of Ryan and Oliver sleeping during filming that’s shared. This just shows how much they’re all sharing of the boys this season when everyone has refrained from doing so in previous seasons. Which makes you think why?!

Oliver plays the IG game where it randomly chooses a BFF, an ex, and a crush. He of course gets Eddie as his crush, reacts to it but quickly cuts off the video. Literally leaves it up for a few minutes then deletes the story.

Oliver also posts a video of Ryan and him carrying Kenny while everyone sings him a happy birthday to his IG story.

There were two separate photos posted of Ryan and Oliver. Upon looking at both photos, you can kinda tell that they took each others photo while they were filming 6.05.

Multiple IG stories of Ryan and Oliver playing ping pong during filming were posted. The fact that cast and crew have been heavily posting both men on set interacting is interesting since it’s been so dry when it comes to Ryan and Oliver content for years.

Aisha blesses us with Ryan and Oliver throwing a baseball to each other during filming. Aisha has been the truest MVP for all the Ryan and Oliver content we’ve been fed this season.

Ryan and Oliver, along with Peter and Kenny, are voted sexiest firefighters alive for 2022. The video interview of them is just so different?!? Like the body language between Ryan and Oliver is so different than before. There’s a teasing and somewhat sorta flirty tone to their interactions. There’s a sense of familiarity that seems to be recent. I meaaan just look at them.

Oliver shares a BTS of them filming with Brenna Malloy as the director for 6.16. Just look at him and Ryan. Both of their shirts are unbuttoned (yeah I know they’re just not ready) but like their body language too is so different. They’re close to each other and we rarely get BTS photos where they’re standing next to each other. So it’s a rare occurrence and Oliver shared it.

A cast and crew photo gets posted to IG. We see Oliver and Ryan standing super close together, with their hands right next to each other. I say this bc like I previously mentioned, it’s very rare we see them standing next to each other in pictures. I like to think it’s bc of all that sexual chemistry/tension those two share (sorta kidding). But it’s a thing and we rarely see them this close. It also highlights how natural and comfortable they are to be that close. Almost as if something has indeed shifted.

Our Buddie warrior JCC posts this clapper with a Buddie sticker on it. It’s an episode he wrote and directed. He’s known to give us such wonderful Buddie moments throughout time so of course we all lose our damn minds bc what does this all mean right?!?

Queen Aisha blesses us with her iconic IG lives and we get soooo well fed!!! Like sooo much can be taken away from what content we got of Ryan and Oliver from that day.

First bit I want to mention is how Oliver and Ryan seem to be in their own bubble in the van ride over to set. They aren’t paying attention to what’s happening with Peter and Aisha. Their heads are huddled together. Also I think it’s so sweet how Ryan wanted to make sure Oliver was ready before he got on the van. Like this is such wholesomeness between these two!!!

Then we see them arriving to set and both Ryan and Oliver are walking together, side by side with their shoulders brushing as they talk. They literally look like their characters, attached at the hip. This happens when actors spend a lot of time together on set. Their bodies seek the others’ out due to constant interactions. Once again, they’re in their own little world and this is a closeness we haven’t seen any of while the filming of the last two seasons.

We also get this cute moment where Ryan acts out a line in different Eddie Diaz variations. It’s important to note how Oliver is in the background taking photos of the two of them while this is happening.

Anirudh then goes on IG live and records Aisha questioning Oliver about his tight clothes. Just then Ryan comes in and literally teases Oliver the same exact way Eddie would naturally do to Buck. Again, this is something so seamless that it makes one question where the line is drawn between Buck&Eddie to Oliver&Ryan. They seem so comfortable with each other, almost as if this is a common occurrence while filming too.

Aisha goes on live in the middle of the day while they’re filming in the truck. They’re tired but you get to see glimpses of Ryan acting funny by putting some gauze on Oliver’s headset, which once again is very Buddielike of them. There’s also some talk about Buck talking about a boring date and while Oliver seems annoyed with it, Ryan’s smirk alludes to it being something more than just talk and harmless teasing. Idk but his reaction gave me massive “he knows” vibes. There’s definitely some secret there that we’re not in on.

March 4, 2023

Aisha goes on live again and we get a really wholesome moment when Ryan arrives to the trailer. You can’t see it but after he hugs Aisha and says hello to the live, he goes towards Oliver and hugs him too. You can hear their little back taps as they hug 🥹

Aisha’s live did give us some more goodies that make me question what Oliver and Ryan know. She asks Oliver if he feels enlightened after the lightning episode and while it was a pun, the way he looks over at Ryan is very suspicious in my opinion.

Oliver than shares two photos to his IG story he took while filming that day. One of them has Ryan in it.

Aisha then posts some IG stories of the boys and Kenny while they film 6.17. Again, Ryan and Oliver are laughing and enjoying themselves while filming. This is such a difference from previous BTS we would get when it wasn’t this much fun, especially between those two.

Oliver posts the photo he took of Ryan and Aisha on 3.1.23, during Aisha’s live. Tags the both of them. He is getting better and more comfortable posting Ryan to his IG, which I love. But it also makes me look at him and question why now? Why this season? What’s changed?

This is something that really raised questions for me. Oliver posts an IG story of three polaroid photos he took on the last day of filming. You can see he tagged Ryan and Aisha in them. He has a photo of Ryan and Aisha hugging, a selfie of himself and a selfie of him and Aisha. Now that makes me question why he didn’t post a photo with Ryan and himself.

Throughout the day, he posts pictures of almost everyone else on set. Whether they’re cast or crew, we see the photos Oliver took. He ends the day by posting a picture of Peter and him hugging, simply captioning it “Done”. Now I wouldn’t think anything of this but it was strange how the only person really missing from the photos was Ryan. Now bare with me here please. This entire season we’ve seen BTS of them being close on set. They hung out together while they weren’t filming, they talked a lot, they seemed very close, they are very close. Oliver’s shared photos and BTS with Ryan this entire season. So why the absence of Ryan in these final day photos? He didn’t post a single one of Ryan by himself or even one with the two of them together. I know he has those photos. The deliberate choice to not include Ryan raises questions and I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. Something tells me it’s possible he’s saving them for an important moment that’s to come in the near future.

A few more things I want to say just so you guys can keep it in mind. Every group photo we’ve gotten, Ryan and Oliver are almost never standing next to each other. It’s super rare we see them next to each other.

Oliver has been liking Ryan’s artwork and being supportive of his talent.

The few times we’ve seen them sleeping on set, their bodies are turned towards each others’. They’re close by one another and this further proves the amount of trust these two have with each other to be able to easily sleep in each others’ presence. Not only that but to have your unconscious body just seek someone who its very familiar with is huge. Even their unconscious bodies know the others’ so well.

The first half of this season included way more BTS of the boys than the second half. We almost didn’t get any BTS of them filming for episodes 6.12-6.14. So that makes me think there’s gotta be something they’re trying to hide from us since no one from the cast or crew had any issues with sharing BTS from earlier in the season and the final 3 episodes.

Basically, this entire post is meant to highlight how weird things have been while they’ve filmed this season. Their behaviors and interactions do come off as things being shifted and then knowing something we don’t. If we put all this along with what we know of what’s to come for their characters’ storylines, it really makes me think that it’s very possible to get Buddie canon, or even a concrete confirmation of Buddie canon, by the end of this season. Again I just provided all that’s happened involving these two men during the filming of this season and what my theory is. It seems like we really may be getting Buddie canon but again, this is just my own conclusion made from my own observations. If you take the time to read this, thank you very much.
