911 5B literally compares Taylor’s and Eddie’s characters and their relationships with Buck. In this essay I will—

Events of 5x14

*Eddie yelling Buck name*

Buck immediately: "My husband need me. I have to go"

Taylor really said 'dont mess with my man bitch, he's emotionally unstable', and she was right

you know at this point i don't even care if buddie happens. it'd be great but it really doesn't seem like it's going to happen. what would be fucking FANTASTIC is giving eddie a gay storyline. do you know how fucking COOL it'd be to have 911 dealing with a coming out later in life storyline?? like we already have established gay characters and that's great, but it would be fucking amazing to see that realization and confrontation of sexuality by someone who's already in their thirties.

and if eddie confronting his parents about his childhood has anything to do with homophobia and eddie having his own internalized homophobia, even fucking better. it's such a complex issue to tackle and if done right could make for an amazing fucking storyline.

the representation for people who struggled with their sexuality and didn't find out until after they were in established relationships with the opposite sex had already been shown on 911, but imagine if they took this main MAIN character with lots of screen time (sort of) and used it to explore that part of personal discovery for them. and possibly with the confrontation of religious trauma/guilt, however you want to put it, a complex and FANTASTIC storyline could be born.

and all this depends on if 911 cares, but if we get a gay eddie storyline i think i could deal with not having buddie.

Also can’t stop thinking about how the beginning of 5B starts w Eddie making that awful comment to Bobby about his family dying.

flash forward to tonight he’s right there at Bobby’s side. Telling Lucy it’s family history and really working to support Bobby.

And THEN he is right there at his side telling Bobby he’s got him.

I just think it shows how far things have come for Eddie this half of the season and also shows so much for the strength of Eddie and Bobby’s relationship because on some levels they get each other more than anyone else can.

I absolutely love the framing of their final walk in the finale

Like obviously Bobby is in the middle, he's their Captain and he's the glue that holds them together

Then you've got Hen and Chimney flanking him on the same level because they are his lieutenants

Then Buck in the shot is next to Bobby but he's not actually flanking him because he's further back, he's close to Bobby but he's not exactly a peer with Bobby BUT he is on the same level as Eddie because that's his partner and Eddie is finally back where he belongs

And then Lucy and Ravi are on the outside both fully part of the team now but still on the edges, not always getting involved and less history there but still in sync with the 118

Not to be a Debbie downer or anything...

But why the FUCK is Lucy still there?

eddie gets shot at the end of s4, eddie does not deal with it well, eddie represses ALL his feelinfgs, "panic attack? no i dont have that i have no reason to be scared" that is a lie. see: got fucking shot, eddie's kid does not deal with it well, eddie starts spiralling in worry, eddie dcides that he needs to quit the 118 because he needs to be alive for his kid who worries for him, problem: eddie does NOT do well in a job as a tech support (essentially) because he is a man of action and does not handle a sedentary desk job well and more importantly he's a technophobe, the job along with YEARS of repressed trauma start catching up with eddie as he gets a moment to catch his breath, he starts seeing a therapist because if he wants to come back bobby says get ur brain fix forst, the therapist says reach out to old friends, all of eddie's are dead, eddie has a breakdown, loses his SHIT, goes through a whole ass deal, gets therapy, fINALLY starts feeling better, and then todays EP!! WHERE HE EVEN THOUGH HE'S DOIG BETTER AND STILL WORKING HIS DESK JOB!! THE MINUTE THE DANGER FINDS HIM!! HE'S BACK IN FULL FIGHTING FORM!! READY FOR ACTION!! HOT AS A MOTHERFUCKER!!! (anyways long story short we get badass eddie diaz after like 6 eps w/o and im going a little feral, plus all the background arcs are ramping up and

Thoughts on the Taylor and Lucy conversation?

I get it the frustration from both ends of the conversation

For Lucy, she doesn’t know Taylor other than her being a news reporter and I'm pretty such Buck didn’t mention to her that he had a girlfriend (I can’t remember) so you can’t blame her for being uncomfortable and weirded out. From the way Taylor started on about Buck, it's clear that she's someone close to him and girlfriend would be the obvious choice considering that most friends wouldn’t have spoke to Lucy in that tone even if they were upset. 

As for Taylor, I get it. Buck’s her boyfriend and prior to that, they were friends. She knows him well, better than Lucy does at least. For her to speak to Lucy in that tone was uncalled for because Lucy works with Buck and that might cause a conflict between them and cause issues for the team. Also she had Buck’s best interest in her heart and hers as well (i’ll get into that) in my opinion. She told Lucy that the 118 is his family and when they fall apart, so does he. 

Taylor isn't stupid either, she saw the way Lucy looked at Buck in the garage and even if he didn’t reciprocate the look, it hit a nerve for her which is understandable. 

If Lucy were to act on her feelings for Buck (which again, based on the way she looked at him, there is something there) it would cause a stir-up within the 118 because it would make Buck feel out of place because we all know how he is, he’d put the blame on himself and when he's not focused, things start to fall out of place and puts a strain on all of them. 

Back to what I had said about Taylor putting her interests first along with Buck’s. If things fall apart at the 118, Buck’s personal life falls apart too. He’ll push Taylor away to try to fix things at work which would make any girlfriend think that he's running straight into the arms of the woman she wanted to keep him away. If she makes it seem like Buck’s interest is with the team then maybe Lucy will back off, for the sake of the team.
