When Regulus and James get engaged. Regulus immediately knows who he wants as his best man. However, he refuses to say who. Much to everyone’s dismay. Though some already had a guess.

It’s Barty.

In 2nd year, Regulus had resigned himself to a fate with a pure blood woman of his parents choosing. So, in an effort to cheer him up. Barty made Regulus promise that Barty would be his best man so that he could give one hell of a speech, cause some needed chaos, and offer a slight comfort (Barty also promised that Regulus would be his)

Even when Sirius and Regulus reconciled, Regulus never changed his mind about who he wanted as a best man, that position stayed with Barty and only Barty.

Though he might not be marrying a pure blood woman, when Regulus asked him, Barty smirked and only replied with, “Was waiting for you to ask.”

A hell of a speech and chaos still happened at the wedding.
