This kind of absolutely haunted shit keeps happening in my Blender projects, lmfao. It happened back when I used SFM too, but rarely. In Blender, it happens several times a day.
That's the expression I happened to have on him at the time the rig went fucking ballistic and I'd say... yeah, that's-- that's a pretty appropriate reaction to spontaneously turning into John Carpenter's The Thing.

A fan animation I made of @spearxwinds character Talas! Really pleased with how it turned out in the end. Base Model was made by @the-mirror-sunflower-owo then I did rigging, animation and rendering for it. Go check them both out!
If anyone wants to use the Rig for something I'm happy to share it (not the model though, thats not mine to share sorry) for you to put your own sea monsters / dragons / whatevers on, just send me a message!
I might do another render with some compositor effects later if I feel like it.
Its rendered in Eevee, and everything was made in blender.
Tumblr media
Its got Bendy bones with corrected rotation controls on all the five main spinal controls, IK targets for the spines, feet and hands are both IK blends with switchable Spaces, Pole Vectors and IK toggle Shoulders. It probably still wants a little more work if it was going to be in production, but for a little 1 week project in uni holidays I'm pretty pleased with where he is.

Now I present to you 3 months of work; Twelve’s low-poly 3D model! Made by me on Blockbench and is available for free download on Sketchfab.
I always wanted to make a model of Twelve and I’m glad I got around to finishing him. Don’t know what I’ll use him for. Heck, I don’t know what you guys could possibly use him for! But no matter, he’s real now…
I hope you enjoy it. Try to have a good Sunday? (I never post on Sunday so we’ll see how this goes for me.)

Yo your rigging skills are immaculate! Where did you learn such dark magics, I'm still learning modeling as a baseline. But I figured I might aswell ask then post it for others!
Helloo! Thanks for your compliment 🥹 I'm glad the stuff I do looks cool enough to make you say that.
Tumblr media
Part 1st - The Inception
When it comes to 3D I still consider myself more on the hobbyist side than the professional one.
I have a weird past in self-taught 3D modeling and game development at the same time so the logic for topology, weights, constraints and such seems to have a dedicated core in my brain that developed through sheer trial, error, tutorials and some actual studying. But I don't think I can exactly pinpoint a linear path that has taught me all of this.
Tumblr media
Part 2nd - The Ruse
On the other hand, low poly models are much more manageable than modern high fidelity stuff. That certainly works in favour of hiding my weak spots hahaha.
Tumblr media
Part 3rd - The Rigs
When it comes to the rigs I use in my videos, I've been testing different approaches. Thankfully, the extraction tools do preserve the original weights for the most part, but I have had to do weight necromancy to recover missing information sometimes, I made a script to recover missing weights whenever that happens.
My older MGS animations use just some basic IKs and Drivers on top of the deform bones (I should get fined for those crimes) because they were a ton of characters, I wanted to save time and the extraction workflow was pretty new to me and I didn't know what to expect next.
Tumblr media
For the newer ones, I started adding more complex control rigs until I hit a limit where it was not scalable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To speed things up, I now have a custom set of tools to quickly name bones and then I map them to a Rigify uh... rig. That's how I rigged The Boss for a recent video.
Tumblr media
Part 4th - The Craftpersonship
I do continue to make new rigs for original characters from scratch because I like to learn and improve in that front rather than just rely on tools to make them for me whenever I have the time for that.

Metal Madness - Metal Overlord rig tests
A while ago I started the process of re-rigging the models of Metal Madness and Metal Overlord because the rigs they came with had problems with them like a lack of bones in areas that should’ve had some to also just having weightpainting problems that downright made the Metal Overlord model in particular completely unusable. I took a break for a while because I’d gotten burnt out on rigging practice but at the time of this post I’ve finally finished the rig for Metal Madness, fixed any issues with it as well as adding to the rig, then applying this rig to Metal Overlord with any necessary changes such as adjusting the tail bone placements to fit the slightly shorter tail mesh and shortening the amount of body cable bones since the Overlord model has much shorter body cables.
Right now I don’t have any plans to release these new rigs publicly however if there’s enough demand for it then I don’t mind putting them up on some place like my DeviantArt.
Twitter (Yes I’m still gonna link that even though it’s always trying to fuck itself up the ass)

Smile 🙂 Personal animated 3D character and project made with Blender and rendered in Cycles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After having some vision issues during therapy that messed up my color recognition a couple of months back, I decided to make an almost fully black & white scene to help get over it. Probably one of my most personal and favorite Blender pieces to day.

[ID: First GIF is a swift 8-frame walk cycle of a stylized scorpion with a cactus character riding on its back. The cactus is wearing a cape and wide-brimmed hat on its back; the scorpion has an umbrella-shaped sun shade tied to its stinger. All of this and a jar secured behind the cactus' chair jiggles with the scorpion's walk.
Second GIF is a sequence of renders showing the characters' progression through improved textures on the scorpion, stably rigged spines on the cactus, dangling ties on the umbrella's straps, and finally some texture details on the cape and hat. End ID]
As of last night, the flask is the only thing modeled that I haven't rigged yet! (Mostly because I haven't gathered the references to decide how to attach its strap, since it's not visible but implied in Nicholas Kole's concept. Not yet modeled are the grain sack, the reins, and the umbrella's jewelry at the very least. But who's counting?) (I am. There are at least 27 more items on my to-do list for this project; most are not granular.) Even got the umbrella under a regular rig instead of fabric simulation. And the textures are steadily shaping up.

Speter has been redesigned!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New Speter (Left) Old Speter (Right)
I wanted to redo Speter's model because the old one didn't have an armature which made animation excruciatingly difficult compared to how it is with an armature. I also took the opportunity while remodeling to make some other interesting changes, so he has a fantastic new set of properly-inset-eyes that can be controlled in numerous fantastic ways.
He also has a new set of clothes, the colors of which can be easily changed due to the way I set them up. And finally, the most obvious change, his fur colors have gone from gray to brown. This was because his gray color scheme was a remnant of the mostly-black-and-white show he was originally designed for. Since he's based on a jumping spider, I figured it was about time to change his color to brown. It was very odd for me to see him in a new color for the first time.
Thanks for checking out my art, hope y'all like it and/or get inspiration for your own!

This may be a long shot, but if you or anyone you know works for a company in 3D animated feature film/television or video game development, I'm currently job hunting in those fields! Specifically for anything in Character TD/Rigging/Groom/Sim or 3D Modeling. I've got a background in Pipeline Development/Project Management as well!
For those interested, you can see examples of my work here.
