P’Abl did you know that Opp Weerapong who played Touch in SCOY debuted in a kpop group called THE7? Because I didn’t until I spotted him in a tiktok. No one in the comments section recognized him from the drama though. Maybe that’s for the best…
I did not know this.
I did wonder where he'd gone, there is no way Thailand would just let that boy fade out of the industry. I was expecting him to lead a new pulp of some kind.
I saw THE7 bouncing around my Kpop YouTube but I'm exhausted by 4th Gen these days so I didn't bother to watch (not that I would have recognized him).
Now, of course, I will go investigate.
Given what happened with Boys Planet I don't think there is that much of a stigma anymore (in Korean production houses) on having done BL. I mean Mnet was GUNNING for Kim Ji Woong and he'd done 2 BLs and sort of even cobranded.
He pretty, but he not that pretty (if cultural taboo was still set firmly against him).
Like all things in Hallyu I think we can blame the wave of 2nd & 3rd gens doing BL and paving the way to production house acceptance tolerance.
I'm happy for Opp, he has the right look and I hope he has the talent to carry the group. 4th Gen Kpop needs all the outside blood it can get, Korea seems to have throughly tapped their own base if recent survival shows are anything to go by.

Have you seen the latest shitshow of the CBX SM drama bpp? When you said you expect the drama to drag on till May/June I was surprised, but it seems you were right --- again. Baekhyun just revealed SM hurried him to renew his contract despite some time left, because of the Kakao deal. He also said SM kept all the artists in the dark and they had to find out about HYBE's offers from the news. Bang PD was apologizing to the SM idols, while Chris Lee treated them like they were invisible, but Exols, Mys, Shawols, NCTzens, Reveluvs, and the whole kpop, claimed no company was more evil than HYBE. Armys were called every name under the sun for pointing out how many things from SM didn't make sense and now less than 1 month later, CBX are exposing their slave contracts and fighting for transparency. I feel so bad for the idols but SM stans don't even care? I was in a space yesterday and all they were saying is HYBE is worse, HYBE is a slave company, HYBE is this and that. And I'm just like ---- when do they fandom feuds end? IF THE WELLBEING OF THEIR IDOLS ISN'T ENOUGH TO MAKE THEM STOP HATING BTS ARMY AND HYBE, WHEN DOES IT END?

Before getting into it, I want to be clear about one thing: HYBE has its own problems.
BigHit was an efficiently run company that balanced artist wellfare and development alongside commercial targets, very well, and Bang PD has managed to bring over many of those best practices to HYBE. Also, HYBE’s acquisition of American music labels early on the company’s lifetime, necessitated it being in-line with international corporate governance best practices under SEC guidelines - something no other k-pop agency has had to do. So at the most basic level, HYBE is easily the best run k-pop agency in Korea and this has been true for a long time.
But even then, the expansion of BigHit to HYBE meant pulling manpower and staff from other k-pop agencies especially Big 3, and there was a huge hiring of ex-SM staff that happened in 2020 - staff who brought over their own bias, work practices and culture. They’d have to adjust to how things were done at HYBE, but culture flows both ways so I suspect it also affected many things in HYBE, and it’s no secret there’s been an uptick in issues for BTS since HYBE’s creation that weren’t there under BigHit. But again, overall, HYBE is still one of the best run companies in Korea.
Here’s an excerpt from a proprietary research done on idol contracts in Korea basically showing as much (though HYBE isn’t explicitly named, also note the share of revenue SM takes from their artists relative to other companies):

A lot of this information is old news, but as I keep saying, nothing in k-pop can be understood outside of the context of this being an ultra-, hyper-competitive space. That alone should explain the crux of k-pop stans’ behaviours to any issues that arise if something connected to BTS is involved. For as long as I can remember, BTS / BigHit and ARMYs have run counter-cultural to the norms here (until recently), and that has earned them being enemy numero uno. Nothing is more important in this space to k-pop stans, than hating the scapegoat - BTS and anything related to them by proxy and no that’s not an exaggeration.
ARMYs don’t make it any easier for them though (lol) when too many people are using this situation as a gotcha, but it’s also true there wouldn’t be a gotcha to be had now if k-pop stans had put aside their fear-mongering over ‘monopoly’ and whatnot in HYBE in the first place, to just think for a bit when Chris Lee was peddling tales of Pink Bloods in alliance, while Bang PD was drawing attention to the abysmal corporate governance in SM.
Everything SM is doing now, they’ve done before, many times, successfully, because the stans would rather excuse it and redirect blame on every other company, than on SM. The only exception to this pattern was in 1st and 2nd gen where fans supported the idols without compromise so SM had to change a bit. But lol, that was also before BTS - once BTS was introduced into the mix and it was clear they were an anomaly, the priorities of many stan communities in k-pop changed, and this has only gotten worse over the years. Everybody who has been here long enough knows it, including SM, and these behaviours have only been reinforced by most companies in this space because they know it takes the heat off them.
I mean, you all witnessed that this is exactly what SM did during the takeover drama.
If you go on YouTube right now, you’d see 10s of videos made about...
how HYBE is a monopolistic hydra of an evil company intent on ruining k-pop;
about HYBE having a girl group curse (not the companies that blacklisted female idols who have written books about abuse under SM, not the companies that female idols took to court over pimping, drug use and coercion, not the K-pop companies working with R Kelly to groom female minors, later having agency executives marry former female trainees, and so on that happens in Big3);
production and audio mixing problems (that none of these critics can actually explain);
about rumours of enslavement in BigHit for BTS;
...from 10s of accounts by k-pop stans, not just one source, based on barely cohesive fan theories, common vanilla business practices, and vibes. You won’t find anything nearly as close to this on SM, JYPE, or YG - even at the height of the Burning Sun scandal.
Selective amnesia is a coping mechanism for many k-pop stans, and a part of me is sympathetic towards some fans since many of them just want to support their fave idols and may feel like they have no choice when SM is involved. And like I've said before, all corporations have their own issues, but again, there's levels to this madness, and it has been clear to anyone with half a brain that SM is the worst of the bunch. And so it's also true SM stans have enabled a lot of this insanity.
CBX seem to be in good hands, so I hope it really works out for them. Their stans will find ways to cope by latching onto any mildly negative news out of HYBE for the next 12-ish months (again, we saw SM encourage this sort of thinking during the takeover drama), and things will chug on as they do here.

Is it just me or… I don’t really like the newer kpop groups?
Like yeah I do really like txt, xdinary heroes, stray kids, etc but they just don’t hit like they used to anymore ;(
Bruh if I actually get off kpop, I mean I wouldn’t be surprised since there’s kpop idols that are starting to become my age and it’s like eww I don’t like seeing kpop idols my age thriving in popularity whilst I feel like I’ve done nothing over the past 18 years. Ni-ki made me feel like it the WORSE like ughhhhhhh I hate this guy so much he’s the reason why I always think that I’m not doing enough. Yes I know I did get to see Jonghyun when I was about 8, but HE GOT TO BE A BACKUP DANCER AS WELL AS MEETING THEM AS WELL AS BEING A KPOP IDOL like fuck off stop showing this 16 year old kid in my screen I wish it was the 2nd to early 3rd gen again where all the idols are wayyyy older than me and it didn’t feel so awkward anymore

No, no I understand what you mean, like there's the main groups I stan like exo,nct,stray kids and txt but other than like listening to one song here and there I just can't really get into a lot of newer groups. OnlyOneof and P1Harmony, I probably check them out the most without getting too deep into them. Though to be fair Like Taemin and I are the same age and Block B, Teen Top, B1A4, BAP, EXO and BTS are all in the same age range as me. So I had this experience of growing up along side them which is honestly bitter sweet cause like you see them achieve these amazing mile stones while I just kind of am here getting chemical burns from hair developer and watching bad girls club at three in the morning. I think they should just debut more full adults, I love when people over 20 debut, like yeah I want a man band not a boy band. Hell when I was like 16, I loved man bands like TVXQ and JYJ, like is a teenage boy going to give us Tarantallegra by Junsu? Absolutely not. Like more grown ups please. Especially girl groups! Like no, no I will not accept 14, 15, 16 year old girls being thrown into this life absolutely not. a 25 year old woman who can stand up for herself of course but a little girl? No, she has to go back to school. Also where is the darkness!! Where is these groups goth or emo phase! The smoke, the metallics, the dancing in dark dirty allies, the flavor!

The reason why I think that KPop girlies are allowed some room to describe themselves as unhinged is because they commit Stockholm Syndrome to themselves with the songs like... "Oh, this song is so good after listening to it on repeat a whole week."
Literally exactly. Like not even in a grower sense where you weren't completely sold at first but then you grow to appreciate certain aspects of the artistry as you either get into the right mood for the song or really listen to it.
But they will straight up listen to a song and ACTIVELY DISLIKE IT and then keep listening to it until they convince themselves that it's "not that bad".
Also some kpop girlies are on a level of parasociality and obsession that even the Beatles fans couldn't pull off back in the day. You think the Beatles fans were writing stuff even half as unhinged as "cow Jimin"? No. Tho the kpop girlies of today have nothing on those 1st and 2nd gen stans back in the 90's and early 2000's. Mailing razorblades to idols and getting into physical altercations with opposing fans, destroying someone's car (not even the right guy either). Now THAT is unhinged behavior.

the exclusivity/less content thing worked pretty well for YG during 2nd gen and we all know how YG can’t let go of their 2nd gen heyday. from the style of music they make to the way they market their idols, nothing has changed. that’s a big problem as we’re now moving into 5th gen and they’re just doomed to fail unless they adapt. they NEED to start putting out content, whether that’s music or variety show appearances or youtube. the kpop audience has changed as well and they now expect different things to 2nd gen. why would new fans choose a group that has no content vs one that uploads 3x 20 min videos weekly? i’ve seen SO many people say that the reason they don’t stan bp is bcs they rarely release music and have long hiatuses. their current strategy is literally turning away potential fans yet they refuse to change

yeah i do think it worked for bp in a way bcs i think it made them stand out in a time where the kpop industry is sooo saturated, so i kinda see one upside to it. i think a less content/releases strategy *can* work nowadays if it’s done (somewhat) well and with a bit of effort (i think it’s a good fit for aespa and sm doesn’t do it too badly), but i think it would not work for a yg group bcs a) yg don’t know how to do well lol they think it’s enough to hardly ever release content and are not smart about when they do release content, and b) i don’t think it would fly for a new group bcs that would make them resemble bp too much in the eyes of the gp, which is definitely not good (it was fine for bp bcs 2ne1 were not active/big when they debuted) 🤷🏻♀️ and ngl i don’t think it affects them that negatively bcs even though yes, some ppl might be put off by it, i also think it indirectly contributed to bp’s rise to fame so although i hate it and think they should stop, i also cannot lie and say it didn’t do them any good

i cannot in any way get back into kpop lol like even if i try... like a lot of 4th gen songs are so catchy but i just don't have the energy.....
and also... youtube keeps recommending me videos like "funny moments" of such and such boy group and i'll click on it and it's like.... the most unfunny fucking boring clips i've ever seen in my life LOL like even monsta x whom i know to be funny i'm trying to get through a video of like "funny" moments and they're NOT FUNNY LMAO this person picked the most bland fucking moments to splice together....
like i think 4th and even to an extent 3rd gen groups are just like more sanded down and shallow to a degree... there was a degree of unhinged desperation that a lot of 2nd gen groups had on like variety shows and such that was super cringe on the one hand but also made them so fun to watch. like not to say newer groups don't have personality but idk... they're really just not the same..... like for example you don't really have to be an elf to recognize that suju are out of their minds and it's fucking hilarious.... but these "funny moments" for some newer groups are like only funny if you already stan them. i assume. because i don't find them funny or cute at all lmao
and even the music is like.... it's good and i like it but a lot of it is like.... idk. idk how to explain it but i just know that there are certain 2nd gen kpop songs that changed my brain chemistry permanently that would absolutely flop if they came out today like i think 4th gen stans are too soft like they couldn't handle breath by b2st if it came out today LOL like 4th gen stuff that i've heard so far (which is obviously not everything, so idk) is good but it's more on the generic side...... idk man
i recently went through an older folder of documents where i used to compile links and resources about shinee LOL so i think i've just been feeling nostalgic for that time. i absolutely don't have the energy to be like that about anything LOL but everytime i try to dip my toes into 4th gen stuff it's sorta disappointing and i'm like "yeah this isn't for me"

I used to sing in a choir from 8 until I was 18 years old, I was a soprano and really good at it, but without practice I've lost some of my mojo... But it doesn't stop me to sing along to every single song I can hahaha My dream would be to sing with Dokyeom... (my ult of ults <3). And I studied graphic design tho it was a very basic course and I never really used professionally, it became more of a hobby and I have some creations on my blog, but now I make more gifs (yes, I'm a gif maker haha) Is faster and a little less creatively demanding so is good to pass the time and relax... recoloring stuff is definitely my favorite part of the process (your gift will be a gifset btw haha I'm still deciding on what exactly)
I would LOVE to have acting classes and learn to dance and play an instrument too (piano would be my choice) and I feel like the group of people I would meet in these environments would be incredible, but right now I just moved on my own to a new country so money is kinda short hahaha But I keep an eye out for that and I learned that is never too late to start anything

There was not much celebration per se on my birthday haha I knew my friends would all be working, so I booked a little solo trip and got to meet a new town nearby a had heard lots about... And people were definitely right, I loved the place and had an Amazing time!! One day before my birthday I managed to secure tickets to see Ateez in Madrid which I still cant believe!!! It will be my first big scale concert ever and I also gave myself a ticket to watch the ballet "Giselle" next week, so yeah, a pretty great birthday week/month hahah
I'm an ambivert with great people skills and I love my friends, but I LOVE my time alone as well, you know? 😅

I do collect them! I pick them up, inspect them, and put them in my bag. You’ve got good taste, “Hot” grabbed me by the throat and did not let me go for a second, the vocals on that are insane. When DK comes out fucking SWINGING?!?!?! I’m manifesting you getting to sing with him, he’s an S-tier fave, we love boys with big ass voices. I used to adore girl groups, but now they’re all so young that I can’t get into them. I remember being on stage as a teenager and 😬 So I still listen to all my 2nd gen nostalgia songs and follow the women in their 30s and 40s instead – when Kara sang “Step” at MAMA I might have teared up just a little. But none of these new girlies could do Hyolyn’s “Laying Low” so I’m fine. Anyway, if you like older girl groups (both have been performing longer and the members aren’t 17), check out EXID, they’re my favorite girl group – “Fire” wasn’t great, but they are, and I missed Solji so much.

Dude, it’s been so great taking classes again. I’m not any good at Meisner technique (my teacher yelled at me frequently, all of which was very deserved, and I respond better in the arts to brutal honesty and tough love, so my monologues are peak now) but it was amazing to get back into that space with such interesting people. There were some who were so annoying, but that’s the risk and it’s worth it imo. And you’re so right that it’s never too late to try, the secret is that there are fewer interesting roles for younger actors than older actors, and so you’re always growing into something better, even just good scripts to read in a class.
They’re, what, 185-ish? I’m 180, we’re sooooo normal. My fatal flaw is that I immediately assume the tallest male idol on stage is my dad’s height (196) and then when I find out they’re 180-185-ish I’m like oh so they’re normal! Normal height! It’s not our fault these other boys decided to stop growing! (Actually tho – my cousin was so mad when she moved to America for college and all her classmates weren’t at least 190. She scolded her dad for being 195 and skewing her expectations for American men, since he was the only American in their small town. If we point out that Japanese men also aren’t known for being 190, she says at least she wasn’t lied to.)
I work for the food and beverage department of a museum. I do the boring back-end invoice tracking, but when I’m on-site during the parties it’s wild. When parties are booked at the museum there’s a specific vibe – expensive and extravagant and ridiculous and a little bit tastefully tacky – and so it’s always just fun. The last one had a whole crew of dancers dressed as Lichtenstein paintings, in big dresses, bigger wigs, and stylized halftone makeup. A couple months ago was a sneaker ball, where people wore eveningwear and (WayV voice) thousand dollar shoes

THE FUCKING FANWAR WENT ON FOR TWO-THREE DAYS?!?!?!? I literally thought it just happened yesterday but NO it started on FUCKING WEDNESDAY?!?!? Who What Where and Why?!?!
First off....ARE YOU FUCKING HAPPY!?!? Seonghwa literally opened up, told us how he feels and how much he appreciates us for everything, BUT THEN YOU PEOPLE ON THE OTHER HAND decided to attack him for it. 🙄 and for what? just bc he said smth along the lines of ‘loving yourself’ or ‘self love’ during his ending speech? like bro..the fucking audacity you have to attack someone for just saying that he found to love himself.
2) ITS UPSETTING that he knew what was happening 😢 i’m pretty sure ALL the members knew what was happening. he literally changed his ending speech during the Dallas show bc of what these antis started. He doesn’t deserve to get attacked, no actually, NONE OF THEM deserves to be attacked like just bc of some people getting ass hurt
3) SEONGHWA SHOULDN’T HAVE CHANGED HIS ENDING SPEECH!!! I understand that he probably changed it bc he saw what was going on and though that it was for the best to not use “love yourself” or “self love” in his speech but like WHY change it? Fuck them because it’s literally THEIR fault for getting mad not his. He honestly didn’t do anything wrong.
3) I will never forgive them on what happened. I am a fan of that group but shit in that fandom gets a little too much that it’s just makes me think to myself like “why and what the fuck happened to this fandom?” it literally hurts my brain that the “military” got upset bc ateez did or said something similar that their faves did. That fandom used to be good but now its TOXIC bc their EGO is way up in their asses that all they think about is themselves and their faves.
4) YOUR FAVES DIDNT PAVE THE WAY!!! I’m sorry but it’s true. They are 3rd gen so THAT MEANS THERE WERE 2 generations before your faves ever existed!!! “they pave the way for kpop” no babes, they didn’t...1st and 2nd generation kpop stars did. it’s giving me “i only stan one group” or “i’m a new kpop fan” type of vibe. did you just forget that 1st and 2nd gen idols existed first? or you just that blind and stupid?
5) I like the group, I like their music, I appreciate them on what they are doing and how far they made it BUT I don’t like THAT fandom. If this makes sense to you, good. If it didn’t, sorry but I said what I said.

Get Up by NewJeans is a solid 8/10.
Every song on the EP is an earworm and I've been streaming the album since it dropped. There's no other 4th gen girl group that gets me excited for new music lately, more than NewJeans. XG is a distant second (anon in ask 2, all they've put out so far is a couple of singles which I think are very good, but the actual comeback is in late September so we'll see).
The stand-out songs on the EP for me are Cool With You, New Jeans, and ASAP, but every song on the EP is doing very well (except ASAP that most people seem to hate right now. But I suspect that will change with time.)
My theory of NewJeans' overarching concept being Alice in Wonderland, was confirmed for me in their visual album as that's the throughline idea in all the MVs, despite their very different themes.
The Powerpuff Girls / New Jeans intro being the most obvious analog, starting the EP with taking bunnies inside the imaginary world of NewJeans' townsville, reiterating that they aim to "make you feel like you're in a game", that this sound and vibe is what to expect, etc.
Super Shy which follows the girls within their universe where they're already known and loved (the callback to Attention at the start of the MV which people are already dancing to)
ETA is the first obvious reference to the parasocial attachment that NewJeans continues to highlight in their music. Just as in Ditto, it's self-aware with a morbid and surreal undertone to it. The MV director Shin Woo-seok, has also said the MV plot lesson is centered on how rumours can be used and weaponized regardless of whether they're based in fact. Which... again, just brilliant considering everything about how k-pop stans operate in general.
Cool With You & Get Up are the climax of the EP in my opinion, and in them we see the most interesting and sophisticated expression of identity conflict and reconciliation in parasocial attachments, using the story of Eros/Cupid and Psyche. Get Up, according to Ador, is only an interlude in this EP but will serve as the sonic blueprint for their next album. And this also confirms another pattern I've noticed. Min Heejin has been using one song from each album to hint/tease the dominant sound for the next. So, what I mean is:
1 - In NewJeans (debut EP) Cookie was a slight departure sonically from the other songs on the album, but sounds very similar to OMG which followed.
2 - In OMG (singles album) Ditto sounded nothing really like OMG (the song) but its UK garage + Baltimore Club combo sounds more like the full fledged expression of D&B that we see in Super Shy, Cool with You, and other songs in Get Up.
3 - And now in Get Up (2nd mini album) we hear that their next album project will sound a lot like Get Up (the song).
ASAP is easily my favourite song on the album. It reminds me a lot of Close Your Eyes. As the outro, here NewJeans doesn't hint at it anymore, they show you that you're Alice, and that you're already well and deep within their beautifully fantastical wonderland. There's just enough horror elements in the MV to keep you alert even though everything about the song is meant to lull you into a dreamlike illusionary state. It feels childlike and nostalgic.
If it were up to me, I'd nominate Get Up for every Album of the Year award. And I have to give kudos to Ador for not just collaborating with PPG by borrowing their trademarked characters and visuals, (which is where most k-pop groups and companies would've stopped at), but by finding a way to incorporate even the PPG theme song into their music. Whoever realized that a nostalgic cartoon has one of the most recognizable beats in the Drum & Bass genre and thought to repurpose it in their music, that person should get a raise.
I'm aware k-pop stans have tabled their usual complaints, tried getting various controversies to stick, from claiming Min Heejin was pushing terrorism to claiming that Hoyeon (the respected South Korean actress most known from Squid Game) was involved in making porn in front of minors... thankfully, the facts won (in more sane corners of k-pop fandom) and none of that bullshit really stuck. Now the only complaint I'm still seeing around is that the songs are too short, but again, it just drives home the fact as I keep saying, k-pop stans really have no idea what they're talking about. It's one thing to wish the songs were longer for your own enjoyment, but one of the characteristics of the D&B and Garage genres is their length, because they are percussion-driven and repetitive, songs in those genres are typically shorter.
Also, aside from a handful of other girl groups, NewJeans is producing some of the most fun, interesting, and engaging choreographies I've seen in a hot minute.

Ador needs to be given their due. They know what they're doing and I hope they continue having the freedom and cash to fully flesh out each of the girls' talents in NewJeans, because all five girls are incredibly talented. I'd love for Jimin to work with them somehow, Yoongi too (both as a collaborator and in a production capacity). I'm looking forward to seeing more from them in every possible way.

I think it's hard to stan btob and not feel superior about it... it amuses/frustrates me to no end to see people squabbling over idols' lipsynced backtracked heavily mr-ed vocals when, like... btob is right there. them and their piles of raw singing in beatcoms, musicals, radio and random interviews n shit, not only music shows (since people will argue those are pitch corrected and edited, ok sure). but btob is hardly ever part of the convo, lol.
and can I rant about how it's somehow a thing to say that technically good vocals are "boring"??? apparently only mediocre breathy singers have "unique vocal colors" smh, way to discredit those who've worked hard at their craft?? the mental gymnastics to argue that certain idols aren't bad vocalists, damn. sorry, I have nowhere else to vent, vocals x kpop is such a loaded topic for me and you just get it lmao

there's this weird stigma around pointing out 'hey this stage isn't live'. i have perfume concert dvds, they lipsynch 90% of the material due to the style of music, but i don't mind bc their lives are visual shows. if idol lipsynchs, i expect them to put their whole pussy into choreo. at least! but how many idols think looking 😑 on stage makes them look full of charisma 🤔 even when the concept isn't dark or girl crush or bad guy, that's all you get sometimes. it's wild how 1st gen stages were often lipsynched but tide turned with 2nd and early 3rd, mics were On. but now it's back to square zero... idk if it's the fault of people being ready to scrutinize idols who are off-key or choreos getting heavier and heavier... maybe it's the ghost vocals? when i said i want retro concepts, i didn't mean That.....
btob are all what people seem to want... then why they never get the recognition they deserve... that's weird, that's suspicious. changsub did that big musical last year, last empress, with a director that doesn't praise anyone but... not only she casted subie but also praised him. may sound funny but it made me proud of that funky little gremlin. seeing him grow from making raps about pimples to full-fledged Singer... yea
yea... there's always this debate, how good vocalists with supposedly boring tone are less than medicore singers that sound ~unique~. but those unique singers usually strain their voices in order to sound like that.. 2 more years and their throat will give up. i prefer stable vocalists like jinho or eunkwang. it feels like you are swimming in a calm sea, warm blanket all that, pen that writes smoothly. some singers make me feel like i'm trapped in a whirlpool, fighting to breaths and for my life lmao. or singers who have really good technique are less enjoyable than emotional type of singers?? you can have both, sohyang being a good example. immortal song is full of stages where people licherally strain their own voices to win that one stupid prize... kbs edits sound but even then you can still hear the cracks and poorly sustained notes. how many understated stages, barren of high notes didn't win because for some reason people just don't impressed by low notes... what about them, what about baritones... there instances where high notes in songs make sense both stylistically and lyrically (ptg's basquiat) but more often than not, they are just embellishments ... sm used to put random high note highlight in every damn song... and still makes their idols lipsynch lmao

Hii, I was wondering what your thoughts are on zb1? I’ve watched quite a few survival shows (unit, i-land, &audition, boys planet, fantasy boys) but the only one I watched as it was actually happening was boys planet and I feel like that’s what led me to pay closer attention to zb1. I wasn’t expecting this but they are now one of my favourite groups. I think Taerae is my favourite, he’s like a cute, awkward grandpa and he has a beautiful smile and dimples. His dimples >>. He really caught my eye in a cover of man in love by infinite on bp and he was also on masked singer recently. As someone who is pan, I feel quite comfortable with this group too. Multiple of them seem like they’d be quite supportive and open minded. They are quite 💅Have you seen any of the jokes/iconic moments like Ricky being young and rich or Hanbin mothering? Sometimes Yujin makes me sad tho. One of the mentors on bp kept expressing how much she liked him (in a crush way) and repeatedly asked him to say “I love you, noona”. It was a bit funny at first but it happened so many times that it became creepy. Yk how sometimes an idol says or does something and it keeps getting brought up again and again and it sort of gets integrated into their persona or it becomes their Thing. I don’t want Yujin’s thing to be that. I’m only a few months older than him, we’d be in the same school year, and I think I wouldn’t like to be in that situation. At the moment, it doesn’t seem to be bad though. Aside from that, I’m really excited to see how things work out for them. Also, what groups do you stan(apart from nct and skz) or used to stan?
Oh well I've never seen any of the survival shows, honestly not even stray kids. I actually only really watch like content inside of NCT and Stray Kids YouTube channels even then I'm super behind. I'm sorry I can't provide any insight for you, my taste in media is really weird and a lot of survival shows, dramas, movies even variety shows just don't fall into that. Even then I only really watch personal kpop group vlogs like JCC, and stray kids personal day vlogs and I loved wayv's Disney vlog Winwin was so cute. And their camping vlogs. So like chill non stressful content is my thing. Sorry, but I've seen Ricky from boys planet just around. He seems like a sweet boy.
Other than NCT and skz I Stan Exo, TXT, Blackpink,P1harmony and Ateez.
I used to Stan Teen Top, Ukiss, B1A4, Snsd, 4 minute, 2ne1, Sistar, B.A.P and Secret pretty much all of them have disbanded or are just inactive but Ukiss did an anniversary comeback. Also SHINee is a limbo group where i will always love them but it's just hard to listen to them still. I'm very much a 2nd\3rd gen kpop fan
And I accidentally fell into Twice, I saw a video of Jeongyeon push a member out of the way to wave to the camera a few months ago and fell in love with her and I have just been falling into them more and more slowly but surely.

I saw your stan list and there were a lot of 3rd and 4th gen groups and we have a very similar taste so i was wondering if you listen to/ stan any 2nd gen group bc personally tvxq!, shinee, girls generations and f(x) were what got me into kpop
yes i do!!! I'm a second gen man at heart! I have a longer stanlist! But yeah i got into kpop around 2014 so i got real into 2nd gen! i miss it so much. The main ones for me where Btob, Infinite, Vixx. EXID and big bang! Big Bang are 100% the group that got me into kpop!

wjsn has a space, cosmic, sci fi type concept (their name is literally cosmic girls) and the songs that show that best would be Dreams Come True, You Got and Secret. i also strongly suggest Luckitty Cat (the production is INSANEEE and exy is a crazy good rapper) if you enjoy campy crayon pop orange caramel type music, check out HMPH by their subunit Chocome!
now for Loona.. well, for context, loona has 12 members and 3 subunits (1/3 - 4 members, 1 member with no subunit, odd eye circle - 3 members, yyxy- 4 members). each member also has their own solo
the best solos are, in my opinion: around you, egoist, heart attack, eclipse, new
heart attack has a cute mv with a sapphic love story!! and new's mv also has sapphic themes. yeojin's solo, kiss later, is a cute & catchy song that surprinsingly has lyrics about consent and boundaries
1/3 has ballad music that reminds me of a romance anime opening. my recs would be love & live and sonatine.
odd eye circle has an unmatched discography, it has yet to be bested in ALL of kpop. they have this dreampop, d&b, nostalgic sound to them, every song is a masterpiece. i suggest love letter, girl front, loonatic, uncover, sweet crazy love, and puzzle
yyxy is the last subunit, and i would suggest their title track love4eva and their bside frozen, rosy, d-1

Now that we’re already halfway into the year (internal screaming 🙂🙂) where do you see your enjoyment of kpop going by the end of the year and next year? I know there are a few solos left like IM, Seulgi and other group comebacks are you looking forward to anything in particular? I personally have been going back in the vault as a 3rd gen and I think I’m more about finding gems I may have missed back then and forward tbh.
i’m honestly bored i haven’t really been genuinely excited about anything in more than a few months…i’m just casually looking in a sense? looking forward to min heejins new girl group? i guess? i’m mostly just listening to 2nd gen girl group discographies i feel like i didn’t appreciate them enuf back then. hav been listening to kara for almost 2 months…i wish i’d stanned more back then ;-; anyways i plan on giffing everything i find so pls enjoy lots of throwbacks on here and my sideblog<3 new things coming soon <3
