何年か前の異動の時に鉢をいただいて、一度花が落ちてからというもの数年の間、葉っぱだけの姿で沈黙を保っていた胡蝶蘭ですが、3〜4年ほど前から5月になると毎年花を咲かせてくれるようになりました。

数年間の沈黙は一体何だったのか。そして咲かないからと言って諦めず、せっせと水をやり続けた甲斐があったものです。

伸びきった根がモンスターのようになってしまっているので、今年こそ大きい鉢に植え替えをしてやらねばならないんですが……。素焼き鉢に水苔にするか、プラ鉢でチップみたいなものを詰めるか、どちらが我が家の環境に合っているのか悩みどころです。

何も手入れをしていないのに律儀に咲いてくれる……ありがたい。
