i swear sometimes i think ill eventually need to move to paris somehow just for the subcultures. like im never gonna find a goth scene here, theres no balls, theres barely even some gimmicky disco nights, theres not one single antiracist org, theres nothingggg. and this is a big city by french standards. lotta the times it feels like if you dont live in paris and you have any slightly out of the norm interests like anything even vaguely niche, or you want to find community and activism, youre shit out of luck bc there is NOTHING local.

The Rise and Fall of The Rivethead: The Beat that Shook the Industrial Labyrinth
The '80s and '90s saw the burgeoning of a darkly vibrant subculture known as Rivetheads, whose identity coalesced around the pulsing, machine-like rhythms of industrial music. The progenitors of this movement—bands like Front 242, Skinny Puppy, and Nitzer Ebb—fused electronic synths, heavy metal guitar riffs, and themes of dystopian futurism, resonating with the post-punk disenchantment of the era.
At its inception in the mid-1980s, the Rivethead scene was deeply intertwined with the cyberpunk genre, both aesthetically and philosophically. This was a time when William Gibson's "Neuromancer" was not just fiction but a blueprint for a subcultural manifesto. Rivetheads adopted the gritty, high-tech-low-life style, blending the nihilistic bravado of punk with the speculative tech visions of cyberpunk literature.
By the early '90s, Rivetheads had carved out a niche in the underground club scene, a place where strobe lights and fog machines mirrored the chaotic energy of their music. This was a scene less about mosh pits and more about the stomp—an aggressive dance fitting for the mechanical assault of the music. As bands like Ministry and Nine Inch Nails broke into the mainstream, so too did elements of Rivethead culture, propelling it into a broader public consciousness.
The fall—or perhaps more aptly, the dispersal—of the Rivethead movement began in the late '90s. As the music industry shifted, and the internet began to reshape subcultures, the tightly-knit communities of Rivetheads started to fragment. The underground clubs that were once the heart of the scene couldn't compete with the changing landscape of digital music and social media.
By the 2000s, the once-thriving Rivethead scene had faded into a cultural echo, though it never truly died. Like the cyberpunk ethos to which it was kin, the essence of Rivethead culture persists in various forms—be it in fashion, in the continued cult following of industrial bands, or in the thematic undertones of modern techno-industrial acts.
The Rivethead culture, much like the cyberpunk narratives it mirrored, illustrated the fleeting nature of subcultures in the modern age. It served as a powerful reminder of the cyclical rise and fall of collective identities, offering a heady mix of sound and fury that, for a time, defined an era of industrial counterculture.

2023 Year End List - #1
Tumblr media
Dream Hacker - Otay:onii
Main Genres: Post-Industrial, Experimental
A decent sampling of: Neoclassical Darkwave, Electroacoustic, Glitch, Industrial Techno, Drone
Brace yourself, cause from here on out this is mostly just gonna be me fanboying and gushing uncontrollably.
Back in 2021, I had championed the Chinese American singer/songwriter/composer/producer/performance artist Lane Shi Otayonii a.k.a. Otay:onii for her experimental record Ming Ming on that year's roundup, describing her potential to become "one of the greatest producers of the decade". But who is this enigmatic artist?
Lane Shi divides her time and energy between creating and touring with her hardcore noise rock band Elizabeth Colour Wheel, and performing studio black magic with her solo project under the Otay:onii name.
She is also an artist who regularly alternates her base of operations between two worlds, residing at different times in New York City and Shanghai. The duality of her identity as a Chinese American is a narrative thread that appears many times throughout the artist's work, informing some of the thematic elements of her records.
According to a really great interview she did with the YouTuber Heinos, the moniker 'Otayonii' itself is actually a name that was given to the artist when she met a Seneca First Nations man, who asked if he could call her by the name for 'wolf' in his ancestral language. She liked the sound and what it represented, and so decided to own her new given title.
Musically, Otay:onii is primarily a post-industrial project, but Lane Shi regularly incorporates aspects of darkwave, glitch, drone, traditional Chinese music, and electroacoustic music into her work. Her signature sound is equal parts atmospheric, lovecraftian, primordial, playful, and frenetic. She's kinda like if an ancient vengeful demi-god reemerged from the bowels of the Earth, and learned how to download and play around with studio software on a laptop.
As a vocalist, Lane Shi possesses a contralto range, and falls under one of my favourite niche categories of woman singers I like to call "force-of-nature belters", along with the likes of Tanya Tagaq and Björk. She has a trademark lower register that I would describe as a witch's snarl, a gentler middle register, as well as a higher register that she usually reserves for piercing battle cries and wailing like a banshee.
Her 2018 debut Nag was a comparatively more minimalist, grayscale undertaking, heavy on the more ambient and gothic tones of her sound. A genuinely solid first effort, if a bit less memorable than later records, barring the deliciously dreary eponymous song which is still among her very best.
2021's Ming Ming was an upgrade in all respects. Pulling major influences from Chinese folk music and folklore, I described the record in my previous Otay:onii review as a "true Pandora's Box . . . like the story of a mortal who attempts to enter the realm of the gods". Lots of ominous industrial cyber-magic, with a rare few moments that could have perhaps been edited down or omitted altogether to increase the force of its impact.
So, what to make of her latest then?
Dream Hacker is an exorcism. An inferno of ancient eternal flames envelops this absolutely bonkers and surreal listening experience. Each song carries powerful buildups in intensity combined with impossibly elegant structural competence. Far and away one of the most visceral and transcendent records I have ever beheld. This gets into your bloodstream, like an innate, raw instinct towards entropy.
Otay:onii's work has never sounded quite this immediate, energetic, and dynamic, thanks to the incorporation of avant-garde industrial techno beats that gives the whole project a mighty propulsion. Even during its quieter moments, you as the listener are never far from being engulfed in its unruly fire and brimstone. So many little leftfield moments that made me audibly go "what the fuck?" upon my first listen, too.
To me, this is album of the year not just because it poses the best collection of songs from an artist in 2023 (which, to be clear, it does), but also because it forms the most cohesive and fully realized project of the year. Every moment of this record feels intentional, meticulously crafted, and designed to fit accordingly into a larger entity. This is almost a living, breathing organism unto itself.
Lane Shi described how much of the inspiration for Dream Hacker came to her in a dream, or as she sees it, an "astral projection". Within this dream, she says she witnessed stones being thrown by a child until two of them overlapped, followed by a great light which emerged from the center of the overlap. The imagery was profound enough that she ended up naming most of the tracks after different aspects of what she saw in the dream.
The album starts with humble beginnings. "You Do/Rub" is a two-parter, opening with the haunting, softly swirling piano ballad melancholy of "You Do". The lyrics are deeply cutting and vulnerable, as the artist ponders her shaky relationship with her father as a daughter of the generation where China had implemented the one child policy, breeding stigma against female offspring in the more conservative rural communities. Lane Shi wields her voice like a delicate blade, gracefully and artfully interrogating her father's worldview. The progression of the piano's melody suggests a kind of resolution in ambiguity, resisting rigid, narrow-minded answers to multidimensional questions.
Then quite abruptly, "Rub" completely overtakes and drowns out the serenity of the softer piano song, like a sudden onset computer virus infection. What becomes of this part two is honestly one of the most immaculate timbral frequencies I've ever heard. A glitchy, droning wall of madness forms in dark, ominous, tempestuous clouds all across the sky. Warm colours are sucked out of existence by a black hole, leaving only greyish pale blues. The soul is washed with abrasion until all that's left is the ability to observe. Sound design on this is fucking unreal, as though Lane Shi Otayonii is wiping clean of our universe, leaving only a empty slate to form the basis for her own new sonic domain, wherein she is god of all things.
"Light Burst" is the combustion spark of a rebirth of all things that comes immediately after. Lane Shi let's out a shrill cry of tremendous power and agony amidst the grinding dust and debris of an incredibly dense and intricate industrial techno concoction, built upon her long standing love affair with minor second chord progressions. This track does not relent, adding more and more layers to its already colossal tower of babel proportions until, just as suddenly as it came into existence, it vanishes without a trace of detection.
"Two Rocks A Bird" oscillates like an electron creating new electromagnetic waves. Sound particles split into atoms that dance in a mindless frenzy. Even as a regular Arca fan, I don't think I was ready to comprehend something like this the first time I heard it. Subverted all of my expectations. I think the artist may have invented a few completely new sound textures on this track. A highly reactive new form of industrial music.
After deliberating with all of the sheer fucking brilliance to be found on this project, I eventually concluded that "Overlap" was my favourite off of the record. Like the best song on her last LP "Blackheart Breakables", this is an epic midpoint that just continues to build and build, feeding endlessly like a malignant being that cannot be stopped. Hand drum beat patterns are mutated, modulated, and mutilated by industrial electroacoustic mechanisms, while a synthesized flute echos a most forlorn and sinister melody.
Lane Shi takes on the shape of a skillful pyromancer, testing her newfound powers by conjuring a sea of flames that I visualize with my mind's eye as something similar to the Darvaza Gas Crater. Alternatively, I imagine thousand year old stains of bloodshed on the tombs of a ransacked temple, or the ancient terracotta soldiers of Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum brought to life for the purpose of ushering a new war. "Overlap" is just something else, man. My other pick for song of the year.
"Ritualware" opens with a rare calm, dreams swirling on the outskirts of a newborn world that has not reached its zenith. The spacious void bursts to life with a single, literal drop (another brilliant production choice), creating ripples in space-time that give way to a trumpeting sawtooth synths' cacophonous symphony.
"Good Fool" brings things to a stirringly harmonious denouement. The light of the last candle is blown out, and a creeping dusk sets in. Petals of sound float along the wind and promptly dissipate, as everything reaches an uncanny stillness. A hushed, rapid-fire breakdown of bass drums, hand drums, and gongs occurs as the final closing act of the record.
I know I've already said this like a dozen times before about a dozen different artists, but it really needs to be said here - more people should know about Otay:onii. No one I've discovered has been doing anything as consistently exciting, challenging, and infectious as this project in the last few years. As it stands right now, the artist is criminally unknown and criminally underappreciated.
Dream Hacker is the rare ambitious record that dares to be so challenging and not only lives up to all of its potential, but manages to make the old formula of doing things look incredibly obsolete by comparison. Not many avant-garde music albums are this ridiculously fun to listen to, let alone manage to capture sonic worlds that are this truly sublime.
I've probably listened to this at least 40 times in the last year, and I plan on at least doubling that number in the following year. This is not just my album of the year; it is my top album of the 2020s as a decade so far, and already one of my favourites of all time. This record sets my soul ablaze and I simply can't get enough of it. Otay:onii is my new religion, and Dream Hacker is the scripture.
10/10
Highlights: "Overlap", "You Do/Rub", "Light Burst", "Two Rocks A Bird", "Ritualware", "Good Fool"

A Beginner's Guide to Breakcore, Drum & Bass, Jungle & Breakbeat Hardcore music -- by DXMTHL
Music genres can be confusing, especially as you get into the niche-ier sub-genres and specific movements that are separated by time and/or location. When it comes to electronic/techno-ish music, it gets -really- tough to casually parse the names. And thus, I was drawn to the title of this video.
Right off the bat, I have to admit that my listening style is "play video in a separate tab, don't really look at the visuals" when it comes to music/videos on YT. Just listening, it sounds like a great mix (about 16 minutes in). So feel free to casually listen without worry about voice-overs interrupting the flow.
As I click back to the tab now and then, I notice there's a -ton- of information being relayed in visual-text. They talk about some of the backgrounds of the genres, the different characteristics (like what types of beats or instrument is predominant), -AND- they show what songs are being sampled.
I think the text cycles - it will reappear a few times, after the other slides appear. I've seen the same paragraph appear a couple times, when randomly clicking back, with other info appearing on revisits in between. I assume this means you don't have to watch the whole thing for new info every moment; you can close your eyes now and then.
There are different sections for different sub-genres. I'm still in the "early 90s" section, so I don't have much to report about my comprehension of the variations. I think I'll have to watch some other videos that break down different elements of songs. Like, I can't off-hand recall what an 808 or 909 drum(beat?) sounds like.
Oooh, just switched over to the "mid-90s" section. Wow, I can really see the difference, with a faster beat and the high-pitched vocals. I imagine this is what some drugs feel like, that manic-chaotic pattern like your heart is about to beat out of your chest. Shit that's intense! (I was listening to "future garage/wave" and "dark ambient" music just before this, so it was far more of a sleepy vibe.)

For the Night to Control, Electric Century, 14. July 2017.
I think the best way to start this review is with a personal anecdote. So, when I was suggested this album, I was weirdly surprised by it. I wasn't aware of the band, even though I felt like I had heard the name before. Well, I wasn't wrong; I did hear it, and for every My Chemical Romance fan, that may be the case as well. At the time of the band's breakup, bassist Mikey Way ventured to form Electric Century. Though I'm often reluctant to go and listen to bands side projects for their suspicious nature, this may be the right chance to fix my misconceptions.
Well, to cut a long story short, I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped. I had a really hard time getting through the whole album, finding myself skipping tracks or straight up stopping it midway. It did not help that the album is more of a mush-up of synthpop or techno sounds that I personally find unpleasant.
Now what made the album so hard to listen to? It is a mix of everything, starting from the strong dominance of the synthesisers in every single song that play mostly pretty simple beats to the contrast between up-beat dance music and an echo-stlye singing that is perceived to be more serious but for some reason uses more plesant or happier sounding scales.
And all of that is found in every song on the album. The majority of them are very similar, and in a way, if you heard the first one, you heard the rest. For some people, this is great, but honestly, when I listen, I would like to have at least some kind of verity, whether it is the tempo, genre shifts, or something else.
I am aware that I'm not the target audience for this kind of music and that the band may not take it too seriously, but like other their kind, I think they should experiment more and try some new sounds, for example, in Someone Like You or Until the Light Goes out on Me that have more emphasis on rock. As well, I found that in the last mentioned song, the female voice fits much better with the overall theme of the album, and I would prefer maybe a more female singer-centred album if they wish to go these routes again.
I would give it a: It's a more niche piece of music that will find its audience. Try the singles, and then decide for yourself if the rest of the album is worth it.
A big thank you to @r1talin-r4t for suggesting this album.
If you have any albums you would like me to review, feel free to suggest them as well,
If you found my review worth discussing in any way, I'm happy to do so.
Yours trully,
MJ.10.

TOP FIVE DSMP FICS I NEED RECS
OHOHOHO ok a lot of these are gonna be ones i've recced before if you're asking for my top 5 of all time but oh well (also these won't be in any particular order it's just like top 5 overall wanna clarify)
unlikely events by Nymphii - literally just. some of the best crimeboys out there right now. I get so excited every single time this updates, i absolutely adore Nymph's writing style and I think she does an amazing job at taking the plot of DBH and adding to it to make it feel unique and the progression feel natural. her characterization of both wilbur and tommy is spot on and watching their relationship develop has been so satisfying this fic deserves so much more attention than it gets please go read it
ritual purposes by thanotaphobia - roxy my beloved has done it again. they're such an amazing author in so many ways and I seriously love this fic so much because of how natural and calm it is. you can tell there's so many personal bits of experience with it, and it's such a niche subject matter that's so interesting to learn about through the story. there are so many little bits of interaction that I just love seeing and I adore the whole thing
i love you till the day i die (so don't die today) by IHJTMQ - some of my favorite dsmp!crimeboys i've read. i usually don't read a lot of canon-verse fics but I go back and reread this so many times. i just love the way this author writes wilbur and tommy and their interactions. it doesn't feel out of character but it's so heartwarming it's such a comfort fic for me
I can feel your heart beating under my skin by Drhair76 - i'm a sucker for medium/psychic stories and this one is so soft and has such amazing atmosphere. i love how the environments are described and the emotions as well it's just so sweet and i literally reread it this morning for like the umpteenth time it's so nice
His Curse of Binding by bari_astralis - I love so many of bari's works and was so close to putting lethe runs golden here instead but his curse of binding was the fic that introduced me to them as an author so I had to put it here. if you haven't read it, do yourself a favor and go read it. it's so well written, bari is one of the funniest goddamn authors in this fandom but also manages to balance the humor so well with the angst. all the sbi interactions are fantastic and god it just hits so well
(also fuck this i'm adding two more because I can't not put them. devil town by hoorayy and coup de grâce by greyquills. dt is an amazingly written small town horror story that has such complicated character dynamics and it's written so well that it even got me to read techno pov which is a VERY hard thing to do. cdg is a star wars au that's been one of my fav crimeboys fics forever, grey is a fantastic writer and i'm a sucker for dark side stuff so this just hits in all the right ways for me)

Zajok a nappaliból – Traxelektor 2023. 07.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Azt, hogy az odaadó hitves erőfeszítéseinek dacára – a haldokló nyugati világvárosban szabadon lófráló sátáni erők (+ állatkerti oroszlánok) hatására –  képes meginogni, félrebuzogni a szent női princípium, tökéletesen prezentálja számunka az Ellen Allien néven alkotó művésznő Ash Code nevű germán/talján (német-római) hideghullámos, pogány, vizigót banda (Claudia SchöneNacht, Adriano és Alessandro Belluccio) befolyásolásával megszületett Dance and Kill EP-je.
youtube
A lemez a botrányos nevű BPitch Control label-nél jelent meg, mely Ellen asszony – de ugye mi ellen? – kiadója. Hogy a hölgyemény bizonyosan a sötétséggel paktált le, az is mutatja, hogy valós kora 55 év, míg fizikai valója ettől jelentősen eltérő kort mutat. Mielőbb ördögűzésre javallott!
Tumblr media
A Na Nich név az ukrán Oleksandr Pavlenko-t fedi, akiről utolsó emlékem első kiadványa, a 2016-os Time EP, amit Vero-val, a szintén ukrán Vera Logdanidi-vel közösen jegyeztek. A Na Nich valószínűleg на них lehet, ami ukránul annyit tesz: rajtuk. Februárban meglehetősen visszhangtalanul maradt a spanyol Semantica-nál megjelent Super Earth című debutalbuma, viszont itt most a Black Soil EP-ről lesz szó. Az ukrán dj/producer itt valahogy jobban elkapta a fonalat, a négy felvétel egységes deep techno vonalon mozog, mélyen ülő, sötét basszusokkal, minimalizált eszköztárral, dubtechnos terekkel. Ez is az a fajta elektronika, ami képes tompítani a nyári hőség hatását a nappaliban.
Tumblr media
That Who Remembers címmel készített sheffieldi idm-ambient hagyománnyal egybevágó albumot egy svéd páros, Alexander Berg aka Dorisburg és Sebastian Mullaert, kiknek van közös múltjuk, sőt közös pszeudójuk is, Jorum néven. Borongós, hűvös párás zenei anyagról van szó, mely képes tompítani a tomboló, száraz hőséget. A That Who Remembers Donato Dozzi és Neel kiadójánál, a Spazio Disponibile-nél jelent meg.
Tumblr media
Eduardot DYL néven ismerhetjük, ami névnek remélem nem valami Kőmíves Kelemenes feloldása van Do Your Love címmel.
A Flesh & The Dream név Shackletont és Heather Lee Murray-t takarja.

A srácok haladnak a korra, a záró felvétel címe Microdosing.

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Mikor meghallottam a Totek hatszámosát (ttk. 1), pillanatig azt hittem, Róisín Murphy végre levetkőzte diszkódíva imázst, és valami újba fogott, valami sötétebbe, valami izgalmasabba, mélyebbe. Hamar kiderült, ez nem Róisín, az érdes, bús énekhang tulajdonosa – a Nu-soul területen ismert névnek számító – Allysha Joy, aki Max Dowlinggal párban alkotják a Totek nevű zenei szerelemprojektjüket. Allysha hangja vágva, torzítva, csavarva és loop-olva gördül végig a hatszámos EP-n. Az összhatás egy funkys, soulos bass-elektronika, ugyanis Max végig pakolgatja a legokat a vokál alá, vagyis a vége inkább valami absztrakt trip-hop, hetero super collider light. A melbourne-i páros lemeze a szingapúri Darker Than Wax labelnél jelent meg.
Tumblr media
Végezetül ismerjétek meg Sepehr Alimagham-ot, vagyis inkább Sepehr-t, a San Francisco-ba emigrált, jelenleg New Yorkban élő iráni zenészt, dj-t. Nevével már találkozhattatok, a tavaly év albumaként végzett May That War Be Cursed címet viselő Anatolian Weapons remixalbum egyik legmarkánsabb mixét (Black Sea) ő követte el, illetve augusztusban a hónap lemezei között szerepelt a holland Steffi-vel közös Drunk On Psychedeli©a EP-jük.

Ask game: thoughts on philza?
of course!!!! old man!! :D
First impression: who is this man and why did wilbur drag him into vc
Impression now: oh! philza minecraft :) father of three :)) husband of the goddess of death :)))
Favorite moment: THIS IS SO NICHE but the first time i stayed for a phil stream was after a wilbur raid i think and at one point phil spent TEN MINUTES absplutely losing his mind over the fact Philadelphia (?) beat the shit out of w friendly traveling robot he was like CRYING LOL
Idea for a story: if i had the balls id go back and finish up my prequel w phil n techno from antartic empire era. i feel like it wasnt common for them to be written as Heroes and tommy as the Chaotic Bad Bit so i wanted to see. if i could do that tastefully
Unpopular opinion: uhhh i think ppl get rly defensive about c!phil and forget like the first thing he did on the server after killing cwilbur is run to tell tommy and the rest of lmanburg to get away from techno. i thought his character did. a huge 180 turn from that point on which was confusing af. either way hes married and cool and thats sick
Favorite relationship: underrated duo is him and sneeg absolute legends those two
Favorite headcanon: is it even hc to say he has arm crutches? or needs other support for the imbalance from a ruined wing? anyway either that or the tiddy window on his shirt

techno popstar leonio engler  techno-renaissance composer claudia tailleferre  everyone’s favorite leading man tae il-sung beloved industry darling,  actress zofia bronze
leonie engler  (hunter schafer),  techno pop singer at the top of the charts.  she started out DJ’ing in teen queer spaces around fifteen.  at eighteen she began performing in queer clubs around germany.  she had a steadily growing social media presence and local fame which then skyrocketed in 2332 when a video of her helping a woman propose to her girlfriend (who was a huge fan) went viral.  engler went on to be invited to several talk shows and her album löwin's pride was an international success.  she further cemented her place in the public eye when she was asked to create songs for the acclaimed film broken roads which starred the current highest paid actress,  zofia bronze.
claudia tailleferre  (emmy raver-lampman),  a renowned and highly respected musician at the head of the techno renaissance genre.  this style of music is a mix of classical compositions with modern sounds and beats,  inspired by some of the niche classical remixes invented in the 21st century.  while born as claudia bacque,  she changed her last name to tailleferre after the 20th century composer germaine tailleferre who she draws inspiration from.  while claudia tailleferre’s pieces have been used in films and television she has declined offers to compose soundtracks.  however,  her former mentee jasper javadi (aria shahghasemi) has gone on to develop his own albums and recently broken into the film composition scene.  tailleferre has had nothing but encouragement when asked to comment on the young protege.
tae il-sung  (sukku son),  a popular leading man in many acclaimed k-dramas and international films.  tae started out in shows geared towards teens in south korea.  in his mid twenties he went on to start in projects with international reach,  soon becoming a household name.  while his most loyal and local fanbases know him from his long list of k-dramas,  tae has more recently become associated with blockbuster thrillers.  among these titles is the curiosity based on a novel of the same name by luca fabbri (bobby cannavale).  tae starred alongside angela daley (jodie turner smith) who he is rumored to be working with for a new project.
zofia bronze  (laura harrier),  a polish-american actress who got her start in vancouver doing several old hollywood style films.  she was catapulted to success when she starred in a reinterpretation of clueless. the film was set against a scifi backdrop on the fictionally,  newly colonized planet of kepler-452b.  bronze’s performance as the incorrigible cher quickly captured hearts around the world.  she was encouraged by her talent agency to take sponsorships which led to her partnering with science programs and industries to influence young students’ interest in STEM.  bronze went on to star in several more science fiction projects before growing worried she would be typecast.  to curb this,  she took on a more serious historical fiction web series exploring the ecological revolution and fight against climate change.  though she was in a supporting role she was nominated and won several awards for her performance.  this went on to grant her access to a wider variety of roles which continued to fan the flames of her success.

for Alex for the OC meme! Can I get a 5 and 39? :D
THANK YOU for the questions 💖
5. Alex most useless skill, which is also reflected on his character sheet, is crafting. My first idea for the character was a scene prince who stirs up the Berlin underground club/techno scene, so i looked up kids on tiktok and insta who fell into this niche and i noticed that most of them sprinkled DIY content in between their ootd posts, like making jewelry or crocheting, and i thought that it would be a fitting theme for Alex as well. Alex's worst character trait is his short fuse and impulsivity, so his bedroom is littered with halfway finished projects: Diamond paintings that take up his desk, the rhinestones scattered below, beads and pearls everywhere on the ground, an embroidery hoop where the fabric is ripped and thorn from a temper tantrum, ambitious crocheting projects that he lost interest in half way through…
There is some sincerity in his love for crafting too. He had a troubled uprising (I know someone from my playgroup will be maybe reading this so i'll try not to spoil too much lol) but someone who has always had his back was his grandma Sophie, who thought it was beneficial for him to learn something that would occupy his hands and taught him crocheting. Now she is his anchor, and i like to think that when he tries really hard to concentrate on a project but he can not muster up the patience to finish it properly, he will visit her in the seniors home and her presence helps him focus.
39. A skill Alex wished he had, and he would never say this out loud, would be to become physically stronger. Due to the circumstances of his youth, he would often face situations where he had to resort to violence and even though he has a very thin physique, he has learned his fair share of dirty tricks, but still had to take a beating often. After his embrace, he was graced with the ability of supernatural strength, but the latest events in our game have left him very humbled and he is currently trying to figure out how to enhance his strength.

Poetry in the Pulse of Neon: The Role of Verse in Cyberpunk Media
Racing through the realm of digital entertainment, poetry might seem like an unanticipated passenger aboard the high-speed, neon-lit trains of cyberpunk. Yet, in this clashing world, the true allure comes alive. While Raz has already delved into the connection between poetry and video games, this piece dives into the sprawling, electrified streets of cyberpunk media.
Poetry Amidst the Techno-Chaos Cyberpunk, known for its grungy cityscapes, bleeding-edge tech, and rebellious undercurrents, surprisingly, pulses with a human beat. This genre, teeming with futuristic anomalies, brings poetry into its fold, presenting an emotional counterpoint to the mechanical heartbeats. Think of William Gibson's "Neuromancer", where the prose itself often takes on a poetic rhythm, illustrating the dance between man, machine, and soul.
The Resonance of Rhyme in Rebellion Rebellion is a core theme in cyberpunk—whether it's battling authoritarian overlords, defying mega-corporations, or challenging one's own augmented reality. Poetry, a time-honored voice of dissent, naturally finds its niche here. Recall the cryptic poems in Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner," derived from William Blake's "Songs of Innocence and Experience", they set the tone for the film's exploration of humanity and artificial life.
Emotional Catharsis in the Digital Age Digging deep into the psyche of cyberpunk reveals a contemplation on identity, morality, and the essence of humanity. Amidst the techno-jargon and virtual vistas, it's the emotional crux that anchors the tales. The poetic soliloquies of the protagonist in Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash" offer moments of introspection, bringing to light the character's internal battles amidst external chaos.
An Unlikely Pair The merging of poetry and cyberpunk seems incongruous at first glance. While poetry evokes a sense of timeless emotion, cyberpunk thrusts us into a potentially dystopian tech-fueled reality. However, their combined power is undeniable. For instance, in Richard K. Morgan's "Altered Carbon", poetic reflections interspersed within the narrative amplify the story's exploration of life, death, and what it truly means to be human.
Conclusion As cyberpunk's digital universe flickers with neon and buzzes with electric life, the soft echoes of poetic verse offer a grounding touch. Far from mere ornamentation, poetry in cyberpunk serves as a bridge, connecting the vast digital expanse with the enduring human soul. In a world increasingly interfaced with tech, perhaps it's the poetic word that keeps our human essence alive and pulsating.

October 2023 Raspberry Pi Projects
These Raspberry Pi projects are fun.
Autumn is here, and Raspberry Pi makers worldwide are implementing their best ideas. These Raspberry Pi projects were our favourites last month and deserve extra attention. This is the best place to find inspiration or see what the community is doing.
As always, these makers used the best Raspberry Pi accessories and HATs to make something cool with our favourite SBC. Since the Raspberry Pi 5’s announcement, the community has been excited. We’re excited to see what the Pi community does with the latest board, but you can see our projects so far.
Raspberry Pi RP2040: PalmOS PDA
Palm PDAs, remember? This Raspberry Pi RP2040 PalmOS PDA project recreates the experience. It has a touchscreen and many customizable features. The old PalmOS getting some love and running on an RP2040 is exciting. Project RePalm was named by Grinberg.
We adore old hardware and the niche communities that form around flip phones, Blackberries, and Palm PDAs. As RePalm shows, the RP2040 can refresh the experience for both new and old users.
Raspberry Pi Confetti Bot
You ready to party? No way without this Raspberry Pi confetti bot! Some life tasks are more exciting when automated. You could open a confetti popper on demand, but adding a Raspberry Pi adds unique use cases, especially for surprising someone. A micro confetti cannon is activated by a Pi using a custom 3D printed mount and motor.
We want to attend Pi-themed parties. It’s fun to use a Pi to implement creative ideas that interact with others. This project can be modified in many ways, and we like to imagine how we would blast music or activate LEDs.
AI makes data collection from complex sources easier every day. Naveem’s Raspberry Pi-based traffic monitoring project uses a custom AI model. Urban planners and others can monitor local transport flow with this project.
Pico Hexagon Heart
The unique blend of technology and art digitally expresses the designer. This RGB Pico heart project drives LEDs in a hexagonal heart decoration. The 3D-printed housing contains individually addressable LED strips.
RPi Pico Place Display
No place beats /r/Place. Reddit’s /r/Place subreddit. User can place one pixel at a time on a shared canvas. Over time, large-scale images can be created with a lot of collaboration. This /r/Place Pico project displays sections of this giant image on an e-Ink display using a Raspberry Pi Pico.
Raspberry Pi Pico Flexible Keyboard
Too-large keyboard? No problem. Maker and developer Kārlis developed a thin keyboard powered by the Raspberry Pi Pico, a popular microcontroller. This keyboard is small and flexible enough for a Steam Deck case. Pico supports USB.
Raspberry Pi Tombstone RP2040
Halloween is coming soon! Want something scary to decorate your home with? See the Ruiz brothers’ creepy Raspberry Pi RP2040 tombstone project for Adafruit.
Pi ‘Technoframes’
Technoframes is Max Björverud’s art project. These art pieces are handcrafted. Techno tracks loop when you touch a hand. Custom techno projects that change depending on which hands are touched are the result.
Model Raspberry Pi ISS
Head in clouds? With this articulated Raspberry Pi ISS replica, return it to Earth. NASA data is used to adjust the moAI may be getting out of hand, so why not play with it? AI and Raspberry Pi help Roy van der Veen create images from news headlines. Images can fit or be hilariously out of place due to a clear misinterpretation of the text.
Raspberry Pi AI Creates News Headline Images
AI may be getting out of hand, so why not play with it? AI and a Raspberry Pi help Roy van der Veen create images from news headlines. Images can fit or be hilariously out of place due to a clear misinterpretation of the text.
Hardware projects by Tom
Seeing all these Raspberry Pi creations inspires us to tinker. The Tom’s Hardware staff’s recent activities are below. We’ve been playing with the Raspberry Pi 5 and have a great gaming tutorial.
Play AAA Games on Raspberry Pi
Have you wanted to play AAA games on Raspberry Pi? That’s absolutely possible! Les walks you through hardware and software setup in this step-by-step guide.
Though not a tutorial, this is a fun read for Raspberry Pi fans eager to see what the new Pi 5 can do. Makers are encouraged to push its performance limits. Now we wait to see how high it can go.

Sizzle up your Special day with a Wedding DJ!
The wedding bells are ringing, and love is in the air..but what’s that? Oh yes, that’s the elephant in the room- the burgeoning anxiety that you and your beloved are feeling as you start to lay out all the groundwork required to make your wedding day special. Your fingers are calloused and tensed up from all the googling, a comprehensive list lies on your table and as you peer through its content, you feel dazed and overwhelmed. Sounds slightly overdramatic, doesn’t it? However, these are the stresses people go through while planning out a day that is supposed to earmark a new journey in people’s lives, a journey they will undertake together through life’s many highs and troughs. Planning your wedding is one of those moments.
Planning out a wedding can be a real pain! We all harbor dreams of finding the one, someone we can rely on for the rest of our lives. The wedding day is that one day where things come full circle, and we all endeavor to make it as special and memorable as we can not just for us, but for every guest involved in the spectacle.
The placement of the lights, the food, the vibe, the wedding DJ, everything matters. After all, it’s a proclamation of your lifelong commitment to someone you simply cannot do without and want to share your life with. That’s a big deal, no?
Now, now, it’s one thing to harbor the dream, and another to deal with the logistics of it all. The latter is the least romantic and sweet part of it, and rightly so, cause planning out your special day is truly one of the bigger headaches you shall ever undertake. Organising the event in itself is probably not the biggest issue as of now, and you’d be left wondering how you’re gonna deal with the proverbial dinosaur of the room i.e the pandemic!
Oh yes, the pandemic. What do I do now?
In such perilous times, you are right to feel overcautious as people gathering in one particular space will always remains a risky practice. Aside from this, there’s also the issue of people becoming scattered all over the country while the pandemic was brewing, with remote work becoming prevalent practice and people moving back to places where they had a pre-existing house, or simply opting to move away someplace else without their occupation tying them down to a certain place. While the pandemic has remained in control, how will you have friends and family who live far away and cannot make it to your special day in a physical setting join you? It’s a real curveball, but not one that cannot be easily dealt with.DJ Zeke is here to save the day!
When adversity comes around, people innovate and work around it. Today, with the likes of Zoom and other video calling applications, people are able to remain perenially connected even if they are situated in two different corners of the world, granted their internet connection is stable. You know this, but is people watching you getting wed to the love of your life any fun? Can one replicate the magic and the jubilance of an on-site wedding? You bet one can and nobody knows how to spruce up a wedding more than DJ Zeke himself.
A mainstay in the NY club scene and a seasoned player in the entertainment industry, DJ Zeke’s talent, passion for his craft, and uncompromising professionalism have been the backbone of his incredible success and having played for all kinds of crowds, from the corporate types to the international folks, he knows all about elevating an occasion. He dabbles in a variety of genres, from reggaeton to pop hits, to afro-beats and techno, and has the innate ability to mix it all up and keep the energy and the evening flowing. Amongst all New York City DJs, DJ Zeke has carved out a niche for himself through his unerring output and with his live streaming production company in tow, threatens to make your wedding day a truly spectacular, unforgettable bash that has your friends and family talking about for years!
