☆ cat, kitty, cat (2) ☆

summary: In which an alchemy lesson went wrong and your favorite housewarden is turned into a kitten. Now you're tasked with caring for him.

a/n: due to popular demand, here is pt.2 to cat, kitty, cat! i can't thank you all enough for all the support and likes i've gotten! i couldn't fit all the housewarden in this part, but i will in pt.3!

“Get away from me, Floyd! I came for Azul! Not you!” You shouted in fear. Your breaths come out haggard the faster you push yourself to run.

“Oh~ C’mon shrimpy! Play with me!” Floyd laughed, running at you with full speed.

It was something out of a horror film. The narrow hallway, flickering lights, Floyd’s heavy footsteps and joyful, definitely maniacal, laughter. It was too much for your poor heart to handle. You really wished Azul would choose a better place to meet up. You basically had a whole ass workout every time you visited Monstro Lounge.

As fast as you could, you slammed open the door and shut it in the nick of time. Floyd’s loud whines echoing in your ears. Taking a large breath, you teased behind the thick door, “Ha! I won this time you slimy bitch!”

“I told you I’m not slimy! Just slippery!” You could see Floyd’s annoyed frown and ‘puppy-dog’ eyes. His manic laughter caught you off guard though. “Ahaha! I totally forgot!”

“Forgot what?” You questioned, leaning your ear against the door.

“Oh nothing shrimpy~ Have fun with Azul~” Floyd cooed, his footsteps growing fainter by the second. With a huff, you gently kicked the door in annoyance.

“Damn overgrown beanpole. You really like to get under my skin.” You groaned. Shaking your head you turned around and sat on one of the couches. It was odd for Azul not to be here directly after school and clubs, but chalked it up to him talking to potential clients. “That Azul, ever the hard worker.”

Just as you were about to relax, papers from Azul’s desk scattered across the floor followed by quick scampering. His rollie chair spinning around from the sudden movements. You stood up in a haste. Your heart pumping with fear.

What the hell was that?

You took hesitant steps towards his desk. Slowly coming to terms that maybe Floyd wasn’t just trying to get you riled up. He was eccentric, maybe a little psychotic, but he’s never really been big on lying like Jade. Oh, how you disliked the two.

“H-hello?” you called out gently. Slapping your hand on your face, you muttered, “why would anyone answer that?”

Shaking off your fear, you decided to go for it. Maybe it was just the air conditioning that did that. Yeah, surely it was just the air conditioning. But if it was someone who snuck in, you knew you had to at least do something about it.

Taking large quiet steps, you slowly got onto of Azul’s desk. The intruder wouldn’t expect an attack from above that's for sure. Your hands slowly took a hold of the ledge of the desk and with a deep breath, you stuck your head down.

“I got you!”

As a response, you got the least thing you were expecting. A scared shrill hiss. You blinked and jumped off the desk and crouched in front of the noise. You breathed a sigh of relief and gently cooed at the frightened creature.

“Oh, it’s just a kitten.”

Said kittens backed itself into a corner. Its chubby body curled up and its paws swatted at your hands. Luckily for you, your sleeves covered any attacks from its claws. Fingers delicately petting the top of its head to its ears to calm the small kitten. Trying to show that you were no threat.

“There, there. I’m not here to hurt you, buddy. I’m your friend, not an enemy.” To show your friendliness, you let your hand fall millimeters from his face. Urging it to come close. Slowly, but surely did the kitten sniff your hand and softly butted his small head against your outstretched hand. A small purr escaped its chest. Smiling, you gently coaxed it out of its hiding spot, “See, no one’s here to hurt you little guy. C’mon out, I promise I won’t bite.”

Timidly the little cat walked out of its hiding spot. It stared at you curiously. Soft lilac eyes blinked up at you, sparkling with wonder. Chuckling, you patted your lap signaling the kitten to hop on. Struggling a little due to its chubby body, the kitten soon situated itself on your lap. Snuggling against your thigh.

“You’re adorable. Hm, I wonder why you're here. Did Azul finally open up to my idea about getting a pet?” You laughed at the little kitten licks to your hand, “I guess he did! Azul’s kinda a funny guy if you think about it. Always going on and on about contracts, you'd think he’s an old man disguised as a teenage boy.”

You talked to the kitten for what felt like hours. Slowly forgetting your plans with Azul. The kitten merely purred and curled up impossibly close to your stomach. Finding comfort in your warmth and gentle hands.

The door to Azul’s office opened and out came Jade, holding a container of water and a can of tuna. A look of surprise flashed upon his face. Soon his signature smile graced his pale features again. Walking to you, he greeted you politely, “Good evening, (y/n). I see you and Azul are faring well.”

“Hello to you, Jade. And unfortunately no, Azul and I aren’t faring well. He’s late.” You huffed with a shake of your head. Standing up, you took the kitten in your arms and showed him to Jade, “All I found was a cat, a cute one at that.”

An amused smirk made its way to Jade’s face. Stifling a chuckle, he played along with your obliviousness. Poking the kitten’s belly, he chuckled, “My what a cute little belly. Surely, he must be hungry?”

You gasped and smiled in delight. “I totally forgot that he needs to eat! He’s a baby after all.”

Setting him on Azul’s desk, Jade placed down the tuna and water and pushed the kitten towards the food. “Go on.”

It shook in its place, backing away from Jade’s gaze and mischievous smile. Oblivious to Jade’s expression, you frowned and pushed the kitten forwards, “Eat up. I’m sure you're hungry.” It shook its head. Pushing it forwards, you coaxed, “Go kit-”

“Jade, grab Azul and let’s go!” Floyd said, slouching against the doorframe. His sleepy eyes immediately perked up at the sight of you and the kitten, “Oh! Shrimpy, you’re still here! Been keeping Azul company?”

“They have, though I think I may have given (y/n) too much credit in the brain department. It seems they don’t know the identity of the kitten they’ve grown so fond of.” Jaded answered, walking to stand besides his brother. Two pairs of eyes boring into your frozen body.

T-true identity? You thought, carefully picking up the kitten that squirmed in your hold. Like ice melting from the heat, you stared at the twin totally baffled and shouted, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier!”

⋆ You didn’t trust either Jade or Floyd to take care of kitten Azul, so you took him back to Ramshackle. Of course, not after Floyd chasing after you, screaming how he just wants to give you and Azul a ‘goodbye squeeze’ aka death. Azul knew better and stayed in the breast pocket of your jacket until the both of you got in the safety of your dorm.

⋆ Maybe i'm a little biased, but Azul’s the cutest kitten. Big round lilac eyes and the softest gray fur. Not to mention his little pancita! So fucking adorable. Tho beware the more you coo and gush over his cuteness, the more embarrassed he gets and attempts to hide away.

⋆ Will faint the moment you press kisses to his little head. And literally wants to die the moment he starts to purr. It’s so embarrassing and your soft laugh doesn’t help!

⋆ Unlike most cats, he loves to play in water. Fill the bathtub up, he’ll happily splash around. This makes bathtime so much easier for you, because Grim always puts up a fight. Azul will fall asleep the moment you bundle him up like a burrito and cradle him to your chest. It's the calmest and most relaxed you’ve ever seen the devious business man to be.

⋆ Unlike the others, Azul will walk beside you and prefers to do so. It gives him some sort of semblance of normalcy. Be careful, because the moment Azul scampers up your leg it's time to book it. The both of you aren’t taking any chances of being crushed to death.

⋆ Like Riddle, he tries to keep up with his studies but it’s not really a priority. Because the moment you are in his line of sight, he’s walking right besides you and meowing for you to acknowledge him.

⋆ Speaking of acknowledging him, you thought Leona was bad, Azul on a whole other level. He’s a little attention seeker and refuses to leave you alone if you don’t scratch behind his ear or pet his head. He will crawl up your leg the longer you ignore him. If he’s feeling daring, he’ll climb up a tree or something high and scream until you come to get him.

⋆ Overall, Azul is pretty chill and living his best life in your arms, though he’ll never say it.

“What else does it look like? It’s coupons for the Monstro Lounge. You’ve wor-eh? N-no! I’m not trying to bribe you to forget! (coughs and clears throat) Ahem, please forgive my outburst. I’ll see you and Grim later tonight.”

Kalim Al-Asim <3

You were wrong, so terribly wrong.

You thought that your braincell and Kalim’s braincell would be able to join forces and make the ulimate braincell, powerful enough to rival Riddles. However you never considered that maybe you and Kalim didn’t have a braincell to begin with.

Well, you did, but that flew out the window in the presence of the sweet housewardern, but that doesn’t matter right now.

What matters is the fact that your lab partner, also number one bestie, stared up at you with the cutest red eyes known to man. You fell to your knees the moment the sweetest meow came out of his mouth. Wiping away your tears, you stared at the spotted kitten.

Maybe you should have listened to Crewel when he said that it wasn’t the brightest idea for the two of you to be paired up together. But alas, you assumed the best and, truthfully, you got the best.

“You’re the absolutely cutest, Kalim! So soft!” You gushed, cradling Kalim close to your chest. Humming in satisfaction the moment purrs escaped his throat. He, what you would only assume, smiled up at you and meowed in delight. “Adorable! Kalim you’re so cute!”

The two of you continued to play on the floor of the alchemy room. Ignorant to the confused and concerned gazes of your classmates or the exasperated sigh of your teacher. In your world, it was only you and Kalim.

That all came crashing down the moment you felt the burning anger of your fellow friend and Kalim’s vice-housewarden grazed your back. Kalim must have felt it too, because in an instant he was clinging to your shirt. Refusing to let go.

“What. the. hell. happened.”

Scooting to stare up at Jamil, you pointed to Kalim and gave him a nervous smile. Your brows creasing in fear and worry, “Um…congrats! You have a pet now!”

Jamil was pissed, Kalim was shaking, and you were on the verge of tears. You didn’t want to die, but it seems like this was the end for you. The cruel cold clutches of death are already clawing at your hands.

Jamil stared down at your tearful face and Kalim’s big red eyes. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he sighed. “Oh great sevens.”

Picking Kalim up by his scruff and you by your collar, he shook his head and dragged the both of you out, “I’m never leaving the two of you alone again.”

☆☆☆

⋆ Jamil wouldn’t let Kalim stay with you, unfortunately. Something about poison, family expectations and standards yada yada. You couldn’t hear him over your whining and tears and over Kalim’s sad meowing.

⋆ But you and Kalim are together during the day at least.

⋆ Kalim fur is a light brownish-orange with dark brown spots with a off-white belly. He’s the second smallest of the seven but the most energetic. Like his human counterpart, he has really big red eyes that kinda spooked you when he snuck into your room in the middle of the night. He just stared at you, making no moves, just staring.

⋆ Grim screamed bloody murder that night.

⋆ Kalim refuses to set foot on the ground when you're with him. Just loves sitting on your shoulder or head and staring at everyone and everything because of the new height. Loves to hang out in your pockets. He’s small enough to sleep comfortably in it.

⋆ Another love is to scare you. If Kalim’s not with you, you already know what’s going to happen the moment you turn around a corner or walk by anywhere big enough to hide the energetic kitten. Please pretend to be scared, because his reaction to your ‘frightened’ scream is the best. He jumps around then rolls on the ground then presses up against your leg as an apology.

⋆ Will proudly show you his ‘kills’ which are literally a leaf or flower that's sorta messed up. But Kalim’s funny in a way that you never truly know what you’re going to get despite his typical finding. One day it's a pretty flower, another he’s dropping a big ass hairy spider on your lap and you're screaming and crying, and the next it’s the answers to the next test.

⋆ Overall, a very energetic kitten that makes your day bright and leaves Jamil with the worst headaches in his life.

"Let’s have a sleep over tonight! Eh? What do you mean? (chuckling nervously) O-oh, I did that? Hehe, sorry sorry! I was probably enchanted by your cuteness! So is that a yes or a no to that sleep over? Jamil’s making your favorite!”

My opinions/thoughts on the twisted wonderland characters-

Notes:

I’m up to chapter 6 and haven’t finished it yet I’ve also only played this game for like a month as it wasn’t available in my country until recently.

I’m only doing the students that actually attend Night Raven Collage because 1 the teachers have little screen time besides Crowely and the other characters from other school are not important or only have like 5 minutes screen time in the main story.

Heartslabyul

Riddle Rosehearts:

-Angry Strawberry/Raspberry

-Short man syndrome

-Mummy Issues

-Even though he’s obviously based off of the Queen of Hearts I think he’s also somewhat got some of the White Rabbit’s habits like everything has to be on time and whatnot.

-I’d probably nickname him Rids just to see his reaction

Ace Trappola:

-Annoying but ok

-I saw something along the lines of the fact that he is based off of Alice as well as the obvious card soldiers and I can totally see that he is rebellious and doesn’t like the dumb silly rules of the queen’s.

-His nickname would probs be Acey cause he calls Deuce, Deucey

Deuce Spade:

-Made his mum cry so he changed his attitude and cleaned himself up

-Seeing as I can see other Alice in Wonderland characters as the Heartslabyul guys he’d probably be the Blue Caterpillar cause of his blueish hair and eyes also you could say he became a butterfly when he changed his ways

-Is dumb but sweet

-His nickname is already Deucey it’s cannon I can’t change that

Trey Clover:

-If he’s a character from Alice in wonderland he’s obviously the Mad Hatter cause he wears a hat and his hair is green and the Mad Hatter’s hat is green. That’s the only connection I’ve found though.

-Baker boy husband material probably the most laid back character in the game.

-His nickname would be Poundcake

Cater Diamond:

-If he’s also a character from Alice in wonderland he’s Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum cause of his signature spell and he’s a red head

-The fact that he doesn’t like sweet foods being part of the plot is unimportant or relevant but it’s some character development I guess

-Annoying but in a different way then Ace

-His nickname to me would just be Cay

Savanaclaw

Be prepared

Very a athletic dorm I definitely would not be in that dorm

Leona Kingscholar:

-You cannot pet the angy kitty

-He has the “ :3 “ face as his normal smug expression

-Lazy man hot though

-Has family issues

-Doesn’t like being second

-I would not give this man a nickname if I want to live.

That being said it’d be Sandbag or Log

-Roxas from Kingdom Hearts specifically the Roxas from the beginning of KH2

-Is a good boy

-Floyd’s nickname for him is spot on he looks tuff but under that he’s a soft boy

-Probably the most responsible and thoughtful character out of the cast besides Trey

-His nickname is Jackie/Jacky and I know it’s basic but I’m not that creative

Azul Ashengrotto:

-Shady Business man

-Was bullied as a child

-Is self-conscious about his body (can relate)

-I’d nickname him something simple like Vivi or Vili or I’d follow along with the fact he calls everyone potatoes and call him Potato Gem also known as (Tater Tots for you Americans) or Hashbrown

-Everything I do the gatcha he shows up and it’s mostly the same 3 cards

-He creeps me out but is slowly growing on me

-I have no nickname for him besides Stalker

-Could probably beat you up and you’d be confused as to how

Oh this one is a very confusing one... :3

Jade was isekaied before meeting Azul, but still enough time for Floyd to mourn his twin's dissappearance. Floyd And Azul meet and Azul agreed to help Floyd look for Jade. That's how the 2 grew closer, almost like brothers.

Meanwhile, Jade forgot everything, mostly bc the isekai made him hooman (thanks water truck-kun for this U-U). He got picked up by a family, which was a bit old, noting how Yu-yu was around finishing high-school.

So when Jade started high-school, Yu-yu finished college and was ready to open up a clinic. Jade likes to tease they older sibling by calling them 'yo-yo'. He even has a yo-yo and knows some tricks with it.

Also he's a punk in here... Lots of piercings and chains... He even tripped more than a few times because of them. Yu-yu did make fun of him in true sibling fashion. :'D

Yu-yu and Jade also get in 'manipulation wars'. It's this tired young adult therapist against a sly teenager. They come to a comune agreement over mushrooms, which is the thing Yu-yu introduced Jade to and mainly their bonding activity.

During their adventure in twst, Yu-yu really banks on the fact that they are a lycensed therapist to just get crow man to give them a salary and some place to stay. Meanwhile, Jade gets in all types of shenanigans, but by the end of the day, he still stays in Ramshackle with Yu-yu and Grim.

Also Yu-yu is quite the flamboyant and dramatic person in private. Jade didn't pick that up, but it's a thing he actually enjoys to walk in onto, just to see Yu-yu making an awkward half assed excuse for it. :'3

Savanaclaw: Leona and Yuun

Leona was, of course, Isekai since he was a baby and of course, truck-kun blasted this one as well with the 'now you are looking like a normal hooman'.

And Leona had a pretty normal childhood family wise. A chess prodigy, with numerous awards won and still he's going into tournaments. A good sportive, but never went pro, rather he became a high-school sports teacher and trains the football team along with the gymnastics and boxing students who want to go pro. Very petty and tells the students to never give up on their goals, otherwise everything will be in vain.

In here, Yuun is the neighbour's kid. Leona was a young adult, who moved out of town for his college studies and, later, teaching career and Yuun is just a kiddo who drops by his lawn to say hi. Yuun is around 9-10 years old and a bundle of energy. Leona is the one who taught the kid a few football tricks, since Yuun sees him as a 'sports pro' and wants to be a football star. Leona teaches the kid the gist of it, but mostly once he's tired, the 2 go in the house and play a few rounds of chess or watch shit on TV.

Because of this, Leona is good friends with Yuun's parents as well. A quite young couple, but nonetheless they do leave Yuun at Leona's place when they can't be home due to their jobs. Leona quickly became a good family aquitance.

So the Isekai happens in traditional fashion, of course. :3

The thing is, the mirror acknowledged the fact that Leona was a young adult and Yuun was a literal 10 years old. It also recognised Leona's dormant magic and since the child(Yuun) needed a place to stay and be cared for while Leona and Crowley find a way back to their original world, Crowley allowed the 2 to stay in Ramshackle.

Grim is mostly Yuun's 'kitty cat'. Yuun likes Grim a lot. Grim would like to not be strangled by a 10 year old. :'3

Cue many shenanigans. And Leona's new signature line 'this place is full of idiots'. U-U9

Heartslabyul: Riddle and Yuuneka

No, not my yuusona... This one is someone else.

In here, we will have, probably one of the oldest Isekai(besides Jamil): 6... At 6 years, Riddle was Isekaied. Which means the damage was done already. But still, there was room for fixing. And that's what Yuuneka is here for. :3

Yuuneka is a kindergarten teacher, an aro-ace woman and a very distinguished lady, despite coming from the countryside. She has a lot of love for kids, so when she found poor Riddle, her heart couldn't let her leave the boy to an orphanage. It took a bit to convince him about the reality, but even so, she adopted Riddle and was ready to be the best mom there could be.

The grandparents also played a big part in shaping Riddle. The grandma was a sassy, no shit taken, woman. She is a bit of an aggressive diplomatic, but she gets the job done. She's a bit hard to convince on things, but she has the spirit. Meanwhile, the grandfather is the 'back in my day' man. He has all kinds of stories, be it from his time in the army or other stories he tells to Riddle. He has old letters and photos he also shows. Since he was a retired prosecutor, he has all kinds of wacky stories to tell. And because the 2 were a bit leaning into their old age, Riddle helped around the farm, being quite aquinted with gardening and chickens. They also have a pig, but that one actually Riddle can climb on it at how small he is. :'3

He even has a small patch of strawberries he takes great care of. When they are done, he takes them to grandma to make for him her famous strawberry tart, Riddle's favorite dessert.

Yuuneka also sews. It's a hobby picked up from her own grandma and she likes to make small things in her free time. She taught Riddle how to patch up clothes and a few stitching techniques.

Riddle is an overachiever. In the back of his mind, still he can hear the voice of his previous mother telling him to study and study. So constantly studying had to be a habit hard to break out of.

A hilarious thing Yuuneka finds about her son is that there was a stray cat who kept getting into their apartment(in the city) and Riddle would try is utter best to get it out, only for the cat to come back in again. It was a cycle, until Yuuneka filled in the proper papers and now the cat was apart of their lil family. Riddle named it Cheesecake, because of the white and bread-ish color of the fur, which reminded Riddle of a cheesecake. :3

So all 3 of them get Isekai. You can imagine the chaos cheesecake stirrs up with Grim. :'3

Again, since Riddle was the son and Yuuneka was presumably the one summoned, Crowley had to put all 3 of them in Ramshackle. It's funny, because this Yuu is a kindergarten teacher... And somehow her methods work wonderfully on those teens.

Also skirts galore! Yuuneka knows how to sew a lot of skirts(must fulfill her own needs in dressing), and the patterns can vary depending on what material she finds.

And with this, we finish the premises/summaries of all the double isekai! Sure, you can still use your own versions of yuus to fill in the roles, but this is my take on them and their lil quirks. :3

WHO WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT SOME MORE GAMES

Mind MGMT is a great deduction game best for 2 people, workable with 3 or 5, but never for 4. In this game one player is the Mastermind, using a wipeboard behind their DM screen to move about and recruit for their evil agency. Everyone else plays the role of rogue agents and detectives trying to catch the mastermind. You track their footstep tokens and try to find when they were at which spaces to discern their location before time runs out.

The style in this game is great. Very comic-ish. The mechanics lend themselves well to trying to find the mastermind and the game comes with packs for continued play, making it an odd combo of legacy game and tabletop one off. If you enjoy these kinds of games with a roommate or two take a look into it! Its well done!

Arnak had been high on my list for a while and I’m glad I finally tried it! In Arnak the players take the role of explorers searching for the bird temple on in the ruins of Arnak. Over 5 rounds you must search out and excavate dig sites, gathering artifacts to do research on to find the temple. Its got some worker placement, some deckbuilder, and a whole lot of resource management.

There’s clever systems in Arnak that reward exploration without rng getting too in the way. I like how the research track has two tokens to move for different bonuses. I like how we get less Item cards for our decks and more Artifacts as the game progresses. I’ve played a number of tight games like Underwater Cities, I have never felt more pressed for time like I have here. And I mean that in a good way! Arnak is a great time with enough variance to make future games feel different. Its great!

ARK NOVA. Is a game I’ve seen in shops a number of times but wasn’t able to spring on it until now. Each player manages a zoo: building enclosures, getting animals, forming associations with regions and universities, receiving sponsorships, there’s a whole lot to do. It comes down to raising your appeal level vs your conservation level, two opposing meters on the large board, and once they cross the game ends and the player with the most distance between these markers wins.

I would say Ark Nova is a heavier game. More casual groups who run Azul, Splendor, and Sheriff of Nottingham may have more trouble with it. Groups who like Arkham Horror, Spirit Island, Terraforming Mars and the like will have a great time. It took about 3.5hrs to learn and play from scratch with 3 people. I love the way its systems work together and its mechanism of making actions more powerful the more time between uses was really juicy. To me its a great game to sink into for a few hours.

Its got QUILTS. Its got BUTTONS. Its got KITTIES. What else do you need! In Calico each player has three goal tiles relevant to colors or patterns of hexes surrounding these tiles (three pairs, no matches, two of a kind). On your turn place a hex from the two in your hand then draft one from the three available. Fulfill your goal tiles for points. Get 3 like colors for a button for 3 points. Get patterns of hexes in a contiguous shape and a kitty lays on your blanket for 3-7 points. The game ends when all quilts are finished.

This was a surprisingly thinky game! Since your goal tiles A, B, and C are arranged so A and B, B and C share hexes where you place what matters. Goals also have points for meeting it with Just shapes and colors or Both shapes and colors giving it this extra layer of challenge. If you were enamored by the box I recommend Calico! The best part is the end of the rules book where each named and featured cat gets a blurb about them. 11/10 best game.
