can we talk about how in the bear s2 Carmy gives syd not just any old chef whites but thom browne designer chef’s whites? not only does it bring together all that interesting sartorial and style stuff about his character from s1 (selling vintage denim for emergency beef etc) but our man had to estimate syd’s measurements or guesstimate them? like what is the level of detail and back of mind knowledge he just keeps on a bunsen burner about his cdc… that shit is startlingly intimate, please…

carmy and sydney are so fucking funny like the fact that they planned an entire food crawl and neither of them seemed weird or awkward about it because it was hidden under the guise of work and palate cleansing so it totally doesn’t mean anything no not at all

but when carmy starts to ask syd what she’s planning on doing after work in ep. 1 she freezes right up and says “I don’t know” and then asks him the same and then HE freezes up and says “no idea” and the ball is somehow in both of their courts but they become so fearful of saying the words because hanging out just because they want to spend even just an hour together outside of the kitchen would mean way too many things they don’t wanna admit.

Just watched Dune 1 again and let me tell you, the second one is so good it makes the first one better. It redeems it.

I enjoyed and understood a whole lot more this second time around.

I only saw it the one time when it came out cause I found it somewhat disappointing and mostly confusing, so there was a lot I didn’t remember. But after having seen the second one and loving it, it was a whole new experience and now things took on whole new meanings and have a lot more impact in both movies.

I didn’t remember “May thy knife chip and shatter” came from the Fremen and Paul hears it for the first time from Jamis. I didn’t remember that hitting your own chest twice to challenge the enemy also came from the Fremen and Paul also sees it for the first time with Jamis. I didn’t remember Jamis challenges Jessica but because he can’t challenge a priestess, he asks a champion to fight in her place and Paul goes. And I didn’t remember Paul’s crysknife is given to him by Chani.

So now, remembering and knowing all this, the final fight between Paul and Feyd takes on an even deeper level and every single one of Paul’s actions during the fight become even more meaningful.

Combining the Fremen’s saying about the knife with the gestures the Caladan warriors make. Telling the Emperor to choose a champion. Hitting his chest twice to challenge Feyd back into the fight when he threatens Chani.

We know killing Jamis had a great impact on Paul, he didn’t want to do it and he never stops respecting him or seeking his council. So the whole thing is a repeat of his fight with Jamis, only now he’s in Jamis’ shoes and he’s using everything he learned from him, from having to kill him and honoring him.

i can not imagine how confusing it was for sydney when carmy, who has been relatively absent and difficult to communicate with the past couple months all the sudden is saying super intense things to her, laying under a table with her and giving her a super thoughtful and expensive present.

he just dropped months worth of affirmations on her that she actually needed over the past couple months in like 5 minutes. she had to have like walked into the bathroom after that and just been like -what 🧍‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️-

This might be a bit of a stretch but I love how when Helen is starting to break all the glass structures, everyone else joins in but only to a point. It’s essentially performative politics, they feel guilty that they won’t side with Helen in court so breaking Miles’s things (that mean nothing to him financially) feels like a release and like they’re actually hurting him (they’re not). It’s like retweeting such and such and thinking you’ve done your part for a cause, you have an emotional release and you move on. But Helen doesn’t stop, and when her actions become more disruptive (to the system) the others turn on her trying to stop her (from enacting real change).

Afterwards when the Mona Lisa goes up in flames and they realize they have to distance themselves from Miles to save face, it seems like they have a change of heart but they’re still the same people. The power balance has just changed, Miles is ruined, he’s poison, they’re the same opportunists they were when they committed perjury during Andi’s trial. They’re static characters written and performed brilliantly and I love it!
