I think my best analogue for Renfield is Brooklyn Nine-Nine
which was a show I used to watch and enjoyed at the time but I think if I watched it now I would feel vaguely annoyed for most of it
idk why that specific kind of humour -- I can't even describe what it is, I can only describe it by reference -- just falls so flat for me now but it's that kind and any kind of what I've seen called "Netflix humour" (which B99 also kind of has sometimes but was explicitly exemplified in that raging flop of a show Blockbuster) that makes me want to do whatever the opposite of laugh is
(I think Superstore could have fallen into this trap too but somehow it didn't and that was a miracle. it kinda just. tapdanced around the edge of the trap lol)
