"I wish I could see the look on her face when she reads my letter of resignation," Randall chuckled-if he could hang around town just long enough to see one thing happen without any consequences, it would be seeing Minnie's reaction to realizing her overworked and underpaid employee had finally had enough of her and her rotten attitude and was moving on to greener pastures.
"I imagine she'll be very angry, at first," he continued, as he gave it some thought. "She'll read it, and probably want to tear it to shreds...and then she might...panic, realizing there's a lot of work to be done, work she'll either have to assign to the others, or do herself...and more than anything, she'll probably be very, very frustrated, once she realizes she doesn't have someone to kick around anymore."
He had been tired of being Minnie's verbal punching bag for a very long, arguably since he started working for her-but what could he do? The pay was better than most other similar shops in the city, and even then, those shops wouldn't hire him-"Irish Need Not Apply" was a common sign in the windows of many a storefront, after all. No, he was painted into a corner, and Minnie knew it-he'd weather her nasty attitude because no one else would take him on, and she could just get away with it, silently lording that fact over him.
Well, not anymore! Randall thought to himself proudly, before half-joking to Emily, "Would it be terrible and petty of me if I sent her a postcard from California, showing off my new haberdashery?" Especially if it turned out as successful as those dearest to him believed it'd be...
