I swear to god people just will not miss a chance to make JGY actually the person responsible for the violence that's inflicted on him

Tbh at least with people who don't outright hate JGY I think a lot of it is this massive discomfort with the idea of JGY actually, really, not being able to do anything about it. Not "if he'd just done this—" not "if this had just happened instead—" He's fucking stuck. He doesn't, actually, have better options.

I see it with fix-its too. I've seen, god, I don't even know how many fix-its which couldn't possibly work, because ostensibly they're fixing things through some point of divergence but actually they're fixing things through fucking changing the society so that it's not massively prejudiced against JGY. Which I guess is a fix-it, except that of course it changes the entire fucking setup of his story, and you'd have to actually change his fucking character too because you know JGY is right about how much the world hates him, and if he was wrong then that actually would be a different fucking character.

God almighty, he was Sect Leader Nie's deputy and people were wiping their fingers because they'd touched teacups he'd brought them. It's that serious to people, in-universe! Have them take it that seriously!
