YouTube Playlist by @BTS_Discography

A playlist of all songs related to BTS in chronological order by release date, from official sources, without repeats. This includes anthology, compilation, repackage, single, soundtrack, and studio albums, extended plays, digital extended plays, digital singles, mixtapes, studio and live cover songs, and unofficial adapted, advertisement, and original songs. Note that some songs were released on other platforms prior to official release on YouTube, so some songs may appear to be out of order (e.g., "Born Singer"). Audio-only videos were chosen for ease of listening, but some songs only appear in a music or performance video. Also, some songs are missing because they are not officially available on YouTube (i.e., hidden tracks such as "바다").

I finally finished compiling and filtering the data to make this playlist. If there are inaccuracies, please feel free to send me a polite ask, and I will try to fix it. Have fun listening!

Late winter, early spring my friend introduced me to BTS which was a true fortunate stroke of serendipity. Before them I was at a very unhappy, dark and cold place 🥺 and this joyful occurrence brought me back my dreams and hopes. 🎡🌾

To thank her for it, I made this painting. Inspired by the "Spring Day" MV it literally illustrates her getting me into BTS.

The carousel represents life, its cyclical quality, and its opportunities for change and growth. This carousel is like a new ride, a new opportunity for happiness that I am reluctant to take. But there is my friend, leading me by the hand, which is reassuring and sort of a guarantee.

The "You never walk alone" sign is also the name of a song in the musical "Carousel". It sings about walking bravely through a storm, with your head held high, knowing that you will get through it all right.

"Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart, and you’ll never walk alone."

Reading RM’s arts posts

RM’s words as “K-pop and the idol system itself can’t let a person mature,” “It is somehow, my job becomes a rapping machine” led me to think about struggles, riptides of artists. (“K팝도, 아이돌이라는 시스템 자체도 사람을 숙성하게 놔두지 않는 것 같다. 계속 뭔가를 해야 하니까 내가 성장할 시간이 없다.” “언젠가부턴가 랩 번안하는 기계가 되고” in BTS FESTA)

Also, when I saw RM’s arts posts, behind the photos of art works RM visited to see, the lives of the artists appeared, which led me to think about timelessness. After RM visited Art Basel, he talked about what he thought, what he wants. “So I just want to make it long.” “I just wanna make music like the timeless piece that I admire.” (https://artbasel.com/stories/podcasts)

Through his encounter with art works, based on the podcast above, RM seems to seek for a benchmark as an artist. Though they are different fields, from music to arts, to seek after, the pursuit for creativity and identity, or timelessness is common.

RM appreciated the senior/precursor artist, such as a Korean sculptor 권진규 Kwon Jin-kyu. The sculptor worked for creation from morning till night. The sculptor’s life, full of creativity and freedom seemed to inspire RM.

Or, an inspiration of Philip Guston. "But because he changed his style and he bravely encountered with the issues and the traumas of his young life, he could be Guston himself. Creativity and identity were pursued in Kwon Jin-kyu’s life or Guston’s life. Creativity and identity are closely tied in arts, and artists. From there on, timelessness can be generated and obtained. The question "who am I?" seems not to leave RM's side. Once he spoke "I have come to love myself for who I was, who I am, and who I hope to become," at UNGA in 2018, but he still seems to find true self. As he sings "oh let me be myself /오 나를 나로 하게 하소서" in 'Wild Flower /들꽃놀이.' Then, timelessness, after the pursuit for creativity and identity, what RM seems to want to have, is too far apart from as-is K-pop industry.

SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Target 8.5 is: “By 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value.” (“decent work” is interpreted as quality of work and human way work by UNICEF. https://www.unicef.or.jp/kodomo/sdgs/17goals/8-economic_growth/)

Referring to SDGs target, “decent work” in K-pop idol system is necessary now, after RM’s words as “K-pop and the idol system itself can’t let a person mature,” “It is somehow, my job becomes a rapping machine.”

The system deprives thinking and reflection time, or free access to “re-skilling”, time to grow, be mature, develop, and be skillful of idols. Also, RM’s speech partially implies Sustainable Development Goal Target 8.3: “Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation.” (“decent work” is interpreted as quality of work and human way work by UNICEF.)

When I read RM’s arts posts, I also read a contrast of artists’ situation. One could pursue identity and creativity freely, then obtained timelessness. But the other said “K-pop and the idol system itself can’t let a person mature.” So, I became keenly conscious to have deeper empathy with artists, from SDGs points of view, even under inevitable Neoliberalism economy, music industry.

Once we ARMY were given wings by BTS’s songs. Words like wings as “Love Myself”, “Speak Yourself” brought us freedom from struggles and riptides, and healed us. I remember such a gift that BTS gave, then I became SDGs conscious when I read RM’s arts posts. I hope all the artists keep pursuing identity and creativity, with decent work style, to obtain timelessness.

It is Zeitgeist (time spirit).
