TV anime “TRIGUN STAMPEDE”
Thank you very much to everyone who participated in SF Seminar 2023 ‼️
The story opened with Takehiko Oxy, director Kenji Muto, Shonen Gahosha's original editor Yoshiyuki Fudetani, and a surprise guest Yasuhiro Naito- source twt.
A transcript of the livestream was done by @/yopparari on twt and I had some of the twts translated- the original thread is very long, so I only selected a few, but hope you will enjoy.
* Supposedly this was going to be posted on their YT channel, but I can’t seem to find it. If you know of it, please tell me and I’ll add it.

What lies at the end of the rampage? Trigun Reboot Chronicles
Transcription of the first half by @/yopparari
There are definitely some mistakes.
Takehiko Okishi: Story planner, moderator
Kenji Mutou: Director of Trusta
Yoshiyuki Fudeya: Manga editor
○ Mr. Okishi's view of Director Mutou
He looked more worn out than when they met five years ago. He aged 10 years in 5 years. But Mr. Waki is always Mr. Waki. It's mysterious.
○ Reconstructing from the final volume
Director Mutou talked with Mr. Waki and Mr. Takei, the producers, over drinks. They reconstructed the story based on Knives and Vash from the final volume of the original manga. Everyone liked the relationship between Knives and Vash. The original work was too dense to cut episodes halfway, so they decided to reconstruct it.
○ How the story unfolds
Mr. Okishi's work was mostly finished 2-3 years ago, so he was excited about the unknown developments in each episode, just like a general viewer.
Director Mutou said they arrived at a way to tie everything together after reading the manga.
○ SF writers love settings, so I happily wrote about them. About SEEDS → About Tesla → Why was the SEEDS project initiated? → Why did they leave Earth? I kept tracing back until I reached the story of the binary star system in No Man's Land.
In the first results presentation meeting, I talked a lot about stars. The director and producers were smiling slightly at the corners of their mouths, but they had furrowed brows. It was a silent situation where I didn't know what to say, and it was unbearable. The director commented that he thought it was Mr. Oki's self-introduction.
If there are two suns, the shadows become faint and overlap, like the shadow of a fluorescent light. It doesn't express heat, so an appropriate lie is necessary.
○Setting of the Plant, from Mr. Oki:
There was a major premise. The Plant had to be a black box because it's related to the Tesla incident and the doctor's principles of action.
I had to think about the origin based on the premise of being unidentified.
In the mid-21st century, the mummy of an angel was excavated. (Then I missed the memo. It was either forgotten or sealed). The Plant, made using the angel's mummy discovered in the past, allowed humanity to recover. The affluent humanity created SEEDS. The fleet of that scale was not an escape ship from a harsh environment, but a pleasure cruise, a pioneering dream.
Mr. Oki mentioned that Toma might have been created when humanity started living on Mars.
Mr. Tajima's drawings were so good that even Mr. Okishi wrote "damn it!" Anyone can create a secondary creation of Trigun. "Having something checked by Mr. Naito on my hard disk!" was a pride. That's how he calmed himself down even if he wrote a ridiculous amount.
○ Setting adds weight to the drawings
A few years after Mr. Okishi's work was done, he suddenly received an email from the director. He was asked to think about why Black Vash is black. Having a setting adds weight to the drawings and unifies the staff's intentions. If you create something vaguely, it becomes a vague drawing. Especially effects. As an example, a picture of Vash going berserk after being stabbed by Knives was shown, and the director muttered, "Poor thing..." Mr. Okishi's writing was really like a light novel. I wonder who commented that it should be published and monetized.
○ A story of Mr. Okishi's big failure
From Mr. Okishi.
He was going wild in the early stages. He first created 150 years of history from the Big Fall. There was a period of about 40 years when the first generation was desperately pioneering, and the second generation opened towns (the note is vague, it might be "connected"). Vash might have been helping people, but Knives had 150 years of battles. Parts not depicted in the original work.
○ Absence of Millie
Mr. Okishi was surprised to learn that Millie was not in the story. Although the director mentioned he was "hurt" by the criticism for leaving out Millie, his response to Mr. Okishi's comment about being "beaten up" was a quiet "beaten up..." It makes one wonder if he really knew about it. The director has mentioned in other interviews that he doesn't do ego searches.
○ About the cancellation of the event in March from Director Mutou.
That day was right after the final episode was delivered. The director, producers, and staff all came down with high fevers and collapsed. When the director called Mr. Waki, the producer, to say he might be in bad shape, the producer was also running a fever.
○ Mr. Okishi's work from Mr. Okishi.
Mr. Okishi, the story planner, and Mr. Tajima, the concept artist, were responsible for pre-production, such as setting and visual production, before the main production started.
He wrote an absurd amount. (A large number of files are displayed in the background)
He also wrote the backgrounds of all GUNG-HO-GUNs members. Even if it's not used in the anime, it can support the work.
Mr. Fudeya, the manga editor, commented that it was like a novel. However, this is more like a long plot, and it seems that another step is needed to turn it into a novel.

"I'll also post the notes for the first half that will probably be released later. However, when I took the notes, I might have added my own interpretations in some parts."

This was a great takeaway for me. I love how Mr. Naito's women characters all have a strong core, are cool, cute, and wonderful. I was surprised that Mr. Naito mentioned the rawness of Mr. Fujimoto Tatsuki's drawings.

○ Discussion on Erotic Drawings
From the conversation about how good Mr. Matsumoto's drawings in "Galaxy Express 999" were, it was mentioned that Mr. Naito's drawings of women have the eroticism shaved off, and they are drawn as humans.
Mr. Naito commented, "I might not be good at it. It's bothersome to draw while feeling erotic."

I wish you could see this part in the video~~
○ From Mr. Okishi about the siblings of the Independents.
The Plant's sensitivity is connected at a higher dimension, faster than light. The Chronica siblings were connected beyond distance.
I couldn't take notes on this explanation because it was too overwhelming. I felt the greatness of a SF writer. Witness Mr. Okishi's torrential narration in the streaming!

"The reason Milly wasn't included in the first season was because there's more to Meryl's journey, I think either the director or Mr. Okishi said that, but I need to check the broadcast~"
END.
