everything hurt . even down to his bones he felt a fiery ache . the bloodsucking doc said that he would heal in a few weeks , he was lucky it hadn't been worse . lucky . what a thing to say to someone sobbing and screaming in agony after shattering every bone in his body from too close of a vampire hug . lucky was not the word jacob would have used . stupid maybe .  of course , if he hadn't jumped in to save leah she wouldn't have survived . the vampire was going to rip her to shreds - it was obvious in its red eyes . leah had stopped by - said thank you in her own passive aggressive way . weirdly , it was the only thing that had made him feel better throughout the treatment and the wolves or billy coming to spill gratitude and stupid sentiments . well - that is until he heard her next to him .  he had been passed out for awhile so he wasn't sure when she had gotten here exactly . time had ceased to have any real meaning days ago - maybe even years ago . and he had been so wrapped up in the drugs and the pain that he wouldn't have noticed if santa clause had appeared at his bedside . he must have made a noise or something because she finally spoke and it was her voice that shocked him back to his senses . only her voice would have that kind of power over him . she tethered him to this world , she always had . it took every ounce of mortal and supernatural strength inside of him to open his eyes and look at her without screaming out loud . the morphine must be wearing off . but he knew that if he made a sound she would worry and he had always cared more about her happiness than his own . it had been tearing him apart to be away from her since he phased and although he wasn't sure what she knew sitting by him now , he couldn't help but feel grateful that somehow she still had yet to give up on him .  ' hey . . . you . he had been thinking about a walk on the beach maybe a picnic in the sunshine . a nice day just the two of them . getting dressed he had even been humming to himself and was so lost in his good mood that he almost didn't notice the look on emma's face when he saw her in the bathroom . it was strange . . . how she stood there with the door open looking like she had seen a ghost . vampires . . . werewolves . . . sure . but ghosts ? not likely . so he rushed to her searching for whatever could be wrong . her words stopped him in his tracks . there he was - standing with arms outstretched halfway between his bedroom door and where she stood , frozen as if he were a statue in some strange museum . a monument to a stricken man the plate would say beside him as onlookers tsked their tongues before moving on . he could not think or speak - he did not know what to say .  finally . . .finally he was able to blink and his arms fall as if made of lead . his chocolate eyes are wide and his throat his dry making his words rasp out when he can finally speak . things had gotten weird since his arrival to mystic falls . he had planned on hanging out here a few weeks but that plan had ended almost as soon as it had begun when a vampire attacked him in the woods . luckily , it hadn't bitten him before another vampire popped out of the mist like a freakin' horror movie . even more lucky this new vampire had wanted to save him . of course , he had thought jacob was human and brought him in his home where jacob phased in and out due to the pain of broken bones . oops . after hours of recovery and several more hours still of interrogation by the bloodsucker called stefan ( his hero go figure ) and his brother bloodsucker named damon , jacob was exhausted . they offered him a place to stay but he declined - wanting a nice human run hotel in town . he was almost out the door when she spoke , making him jump . he usually noticed people right away thanks to his superior senses ( wolf powers for the win he supposed ) but tonight he must have been off his game . turning he notices the pretty human girl from earlier . also figures . in his experience all of the girls he's the least bit attracted to seemed to run with the enemy . ' oh hey . ' he says lamely , stopping in spite of himself to chat . she genuinely seemed like she cared and part of him wanted to make sure she was okay being left behind in this house of monsters . ' I'm fine , really . just too tired now to explore my new town . think I'm gonna stay around awhile  . '

the two of them haven't exactly announced their relationship to their friends and loved ones . out of obvious reasons , of course . the biggest being that their species aren't supposed to mix at any time - much less in a romantic setting . so he is shocked when he sees her in the shadows of the trees lining the beach while talking to the other wolves at the bonfire . he rushes to her as soon as they're distracted enough not to notice his absence - pulling her by the arm deeper into the woods . ' are you insane ?! ' he hisses at her - his words at odds with the delighted expression on his face . he can't help it - he's delighted to see her despite the danger . ' if they catch your scent they'll hunt you - you have to go . ' but he is cupping her face with his hands and already leaning in - pressing a heated kiss to her lips as he presses her back into a tree behind them . ' so stupid . ' he mummers , nipping at her lower lip .

jacob scoffs , his brain immediately repelling the thought of telling someone of her kind anything of the sort . as if they didn't lie themselves - to everyone around them . of course , being a supernatural creature would do that to you . hard to tell someone you're a creature of the night when they'd just laugh or think you've lost it . ' you think you deserve any type of truth ? think again bloodsucker , I don't talk to your kind . '

' i do run a pretty high temperature . ' he teases , plopping back onto the bed with her and sighing heavily . it had been a long night running through the woods of la push trying to catch the scent seth had come across early that morning . it had been futile , the vampire was either long gone or good at hiding . either way - he was glad to be back home and even happier that yuri was still here . it wasn't late in the morning yet but he was afraid she would disappear at some point - that she was too good to be true .  ' i missed you . ' he mummers , turning serious as he pulls her into his arms and nuzzles up to her , pressing a light kiss to her cheek . ' it feels strange without you with me . is that crazy ? '
