Full footage of when Russians dropped bombs on the Maternity hospital from "20 Days in Mariupol".
We've seen a lot of those shots before, but this is uncut video footage, many context I never knew, many scenes I never saw. And the whole footage put together is so much more staggering💔

Ukraine and Russia exchange nearly 500 prisoners of war
KYIV — Ukraine and Russia exchanged nearly 500 prisoners of war Wednesday — including Ukrainian service members taken prisoner during fighting at the Azovstal steel mill in Mariupol and Snake Island in the Black Sea — a sign that talks between Kyiv and Moscow continue, even as the two sides appear frozen in peace negotiations.
It was the largest trade since Russian forces invaded the country nearly two years ago, Ukraine’s coordinating headquarters for POW issues said in a post on Telegram. Officials from the United Arab Emirates helped mediate the process, Russian and Ukrainian officials said.
Ukrainian officials said that 230 of their service members returned home, while Russians said 248 of theirs had been released. Neither set of figures could be independently verified.

Russia's illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine began on 24 February 2024. One of Putin's early targets was the city of Mariupol (pre-invasion population: 425,681) on the shore of the Sea of Azov.
Ukrainian AP journalists were trapped in the city until they were able to escape. With the footage of their coverage of the Russian siege they created the documentary 20 Days In Mariupol.
A harrowing film exposes the brutality of Russia’s war in Ukraine
Mariupol, in particular, became a symbol of the brutality of Russia’s invasion — mostly through the work of a team of Ukrainian journalists from the Associated Press, who were the last international reporters left in the city. Together, they documented the Russian siege of Mariupol, a city otherwise cut off. Only a sliver of what those reporters captured was published at the time, but what did became some of the defining images of the early days of the Ukraine war — children killed in air strikes and pregnant women, covered in blood, evacuating a bombarded maternity hospital. Mstyslav Chernov, an AP videographer and member of the Pulitzer Prize-winning team, shot 30 hours of footage in Mariupol before he and his colleagues escaped the area through multiple Russian checkpoints. The result is the AP and Frontline documentary, 20 Days in Mariupol, which recounts, day by day, the story of a city under relentless bombardment. The film shows Mariupol’s unraveling, the chaos and confusion that consumes people when they’re isolated and trapped. It also shows how Mariupol survived, how its residents — angry, terrified, heartbroken, exhausted — adapted to almost unfathomable horror.
In 20 Days In Mariupol we see less than three weeks of Putin's attempted genocide of Ukraine – and in just one city. Russia's invasion is now in its 639th day; today marks a total of 21 months of Russian war crimes. Putin has intentionally targeted schools, hospitals, playgrounds, apartment buildings, and museums.
If you live in the United States, contact your member of the House of Representatives this weekend and demand that aid to Ukraine be included in the next budget extension. If you're not sure who represents you, use the search tool at the US House site. Have your ZIP+4 ready.

If your rep has a district office near you, pay a visit! It's probably less crowded there than at a Black Friday sale.
In case your Congress critter needs a reminder...
Russia invaded Ukraine. Why does this matter to the world?

This is the drama theatre in Mariupol as updated by Google maps today.
I’m not Ukrainian but regardless I am so sick of RuZZians claiming it’s still a “military operation” or that they’re “saving Ukraine”.
Tumblr media
You can see the Russian Orthodox Church is fine, but even in this small, zoomed in screenshot, you can see everything around it has been raised to the ground.
They’re not saving Ukraine, they never have been. They’re murdering innocent people on the daily. This happened so long ago, and yet these images, these literal Google Maps images, are so hard to look at, knowing the people that were in that drama theatre are dead.
Maybe you’re out of the loop or forgot, but «дети» means kids or children. Many people were writing it places where there were children present, in hopes the RuZZians wouldn’t hurt them, that they’d have enough of a soul to be like “Hey those are citizens, are they are children. Let’s not” but they did. That building is destroyed. But more importantly, everyone who was in that theatre was destroyed. They will never get their lives back. Those children will never live to see teenhood, adulthood, anything. And their friends since then have never seen them again.
The worst part about all this, is that this hasn’t stopped. It hasn’t stopped happening. The orcs have just gotten worse. Mass graves, torture chambers, kidnappings, and enough war crimes to fill a book longer than the Bible.
There have been kids who have been freed (by Ukrainians) and told they were made to dance for RuZZian soldiers, and their parents had to watch. If they didn’t agree they were killed. There was found torture chambers made for children, and children have been kidnapped en masse to Russia to be adopted and Russified by Russian parents. That doesn’t even cover half of it.
We can’t forget events like what happened at the drama theatre, because once we forget, it will be lost with history. And everyone knows the saying about those who forget history. Because it has been said again and again. And you’d think with how many times we’ve heard it we’d listen. But no, history repeats itself, and we as a society have let Ukraine down. We have let them down, and now they’re dealing with RuZZia. Again.
This wasn’t even a surprise. Anyone who keeps up with current events knows that this was expected to happen in 2021 in May, that RuZZia was building up forces on the border, but they hadn’t invaded at that time. But lo and behold, there they came to Ukraine less than a year later, and here they are, still in Ukraine over a year after that.
I don’t fucking care what issue you have going on. If you still use Ukraine as a talking point for your whataboutism, I’m not listening to you. You’ve lost all of my respect in the span of a second. “Everyone’s talking about Ukraine but what about…” just stop. Those people show how unintelligent, and unempathetic they are very quickly.
Most importantly as a society we need to get out more and continue to protest this invasion, and get our countries to take more action. When Ukraine says they need support, we need to give it.
I know this post was just repeating a lot of what we’ve heard, a lot of what Ukrainians have been saying, begging the world to hear, but it’s all still important and relevant. We can’t become pessimistic to this. Please.
Thank you

The Last Cell Tower in Mariupol
Mariupol is a city on the north coast of the Sea of Azov. Prior to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and its capture by Russia, it was the tenth-largest city in Ukraine and the second-largest in Donetsk Oblast. Mariupol was a strategic target for Russian and Russian proxy forces. The city was under siege from 25 February until 17 May 2022. During this time, as all other connections in the city went down under continuous bombardment, a lone cell tower of the Ukrainian mobile network Kyivstar became the only way of connection that worked due to the resilience of the last four workers that remained in the city - whose names Kyivstar refuses to give due to security reasons. At last, their story was told:
Tumblr media
At the beginning of March, the base stations of all telecommunication companies the city stopped working. So four of our engineers (for security reasons we are not releasing their faces and names) assembled the base station by themselves from the equipment stored in the office.
Thus, a working mobile network appeared in the city, which became the only communication channel for Mariupol residents. The Kyivstar office also became a place for them where they could charge their mobile phones every day.
For a week, our engineers were on duty 24 hours a day in the switch center, going out one by one only to find fuel for the diesel generators. Considering the situation in Mariupol at that time, it was very dangerous.
Enemy shells hit our office several times, one of which completely burned a stationary diesel generator. But the engineers were able to find a portable one in the city, and the mobile connection was restored again.
Tumblr media
Just then, the Ukrainian authorities managed to organize a humanitarian corridor for the people of Mariupol. Thanks to a working base station, residents of a number of city districts were able to receive SMS about evacuation routes. The station saved thousands of lives.
Unfortunately, on March 19, rockets from the Russian "Grad" system destroyed the walls and ceiling of part of the office. Our colleagues were forced to urgently leave the building, having previously deleted all important data from the switch. The base station operated on the remaining fuel until March 21.
Tumblr media
Our heroes are alive and eager to get back to work. We are proud to work with them in the same team 👏 And this story has already become a legend and attracted the attention of foreign media.

Russian dictator and indicted war criminal Vladimir Putin visited Mariupol – an occupied city in Ukraine which he largely destroyed.
The BBC tells us what exactly Putin saw there.
The BBC has traced part of the route he took, which passed near the locations of several notorious attacks during his army's months-long assault. Russia finally overran the city in May.
[ ... ]
Mariupol's Ukrainian mayor in exile Vadym Boychenko told the BBC that Mariupol was "personal" to Mr Putin because of what had happened there.
"We have to understand that Mariupol is a symbolic place for Putin, because of the fury he inflicted on the city of Mariupol. No other city was destroyed like that. No other city was under siege for so long. No other city was subjected to carpet bombing," he said.
"He has come in person to see what he has done," he added.
Tumblr media
The BBC identified some of the key landmarks along the Russian leader's route. Mr Putin appears to be driving down Kuprina St, turning into Myru Avenue and then into Metalurhiv Avenue, where the Philharmonic Concert Hall is and which he visits later on in the footage.
[ ... ]
On his left as they drive down Myru Avenue are sculptures of birds in what was Mariupol's Freedom Square.
Further on, on the right and not shown in the footage, is Mariupol's Maternity Hospital Number Three, which was bombed in a notorious incident last March.
[ ... ]
Mr Putin turned off Myru Avenue just before the road arrives at Theatre Square - the scene of a deadly bombing that is thought to have killed at least 300 and possibly as many as 600 civilians.
Civilians had been using the building as a refuge from the siege and a large sign spelling "children" had been daubed in Russian in front of the theatre. The building collapsed when it was hit.
[ ... ]
Footage then shows Mr Putin on a walking tour of a new residential compound, said to be in Mariupol's Nevsky district. He is guided by Mr Khusnullin, who shows him some plans of the reconstruction work. He is also seen talking to people said by Russian media to be local residents and he also visits an apartment that he is told is made up of three rooms.
Here is a photo I found elsewhere of Putin being greeted at 3 AM by a spontaneous and rapturous crowd of over a handful of people.
Tumblr media
Okay, back to the tour.
In another part of the footage, President Putin is seen walking through the interior of a concert hall in Mariupol. Russian state media said it was the Philharmonic Concert Hall - and the BBC has verified that the footage matches the interior of the venue.
This is the same building that the UN warned was to be used to stage trials of Ukrainian troops who held out against Russian forces for months in Mariupol's massive Azovstal iron and steel plant. Russia finally gained complete control of Mariupol in May after the defenders surrendered.
[ ... ]
In a later shot, President Putin is seen visiting a World War Two memorial built to commemorate Soviet troops who recaptured the city from Nazi Germany.
Here’s the maternity hospital in Mariupol after it was bombed by Putin.
