i’ve only really started learning more about the paratroopers/us army side of ww2 since i watched bob but i’ve always been a HUGE aviation nerd especially aviation/the raf in ww2 (i’m gonna lose my mind when masters of the air comes out just warning y’all), mostly bc i’m from southampton which is where supermarine manufactured the spitfire and i’ve always thought that was the coolest thing, but dude i have spitfire shirts, a spitfire tote bag, spitfire socks, i wear a little spitfire chain necklace pretty much every day, plus all the books on them and just warplanes in general. i used to have sailor malan’s 10 rules for air fighting stuck up on my bedroom wall like i am OBSESSED with this shit and y’all…
Y’ALL.
for christmas my mum got me tickets to go to the raf museum in london and do the spitfire experience they offer there which means I GET TO SIT IN THE COCKPIT OF A REAL, ACTUAL SPITFIRE !!!!!!!!! A FUCKING SPITFIRE !!!!! BROOOOOOOO !!!!!!!! I’M LOSING MY MIIIIIIIIIIIIND

Anglo-Argentinian ATA pilot Maureen Adele Chase Dunlop de Popp During WW II female pilots of the ATA - Air Transport Auxiliary ferried aircraft from the factories to air bases or maintenance units all over England. War time allowed that physical disabilities were ignored for ATA pilots, so even short-sighted and one-eyed pilots were recruited, humorously referred to as "Ancient and Tattered Airmen" (ATA). ATA pilots flew different types of aircraft and had a basic checklist for each aircraft, be it single or multi-engine! This photo in a series for "Picture Post" shows glamorous & fearless Maureen Dunlop in a Fairey Barracuda aircraft. After WW II, Dunlop became an instructor pilot for the Argentinian Air Force and later worked as a commercial pilot until 1969. (Photo: IWM)

I have an original story called No Chance To Meet Again which has been described by various people as "worryingly tumblrcore" and "heartstopper but with Nazis" and while both these descriptions...concern me, I do think it's important that everyone here sees the art that @skepticamoeba did of the two main characters dancing, cos it's incredibly cute and, uh, stuff.
Anyways the scene this is based on is here if you want to read it :) as our some other parts of the story. https://link.medium.com/HbMmCPhB5ub

“Another New Spitfire Hurtles Skyward,” Toronto Star. April 15, 1941. Page 1. ---- Moving in a blur of speed, a test pilot races a British Spitfire close to the ground in the fighting plane’s final test flight before delivery to the R.A.F. The accent in the news these days is on U.S. bombers, now streaming across the Atlantic in never-ending procession; but the world’s finest fighting ship still roll off assembly lines in British factories. So fast are they being built under the driving stimulus of dynamic Lord Beaverbrook that Spitfires and Hurricanes can accompany the bomber fleets which hammer invasion ports on the French and Belgian coasts.

Give it up for the New York Wonderbolts!
Siobhan "Spitfire" Pierce-Evans, Irish immigrant. Got her start as a aeroplane mechanic's apprentice before becoming the first female pilot in WW1, flying reconnaissance for the UK. After the war, she went on to fly competitively, winning third place in the 1924 Italian Schneider Cup. After that, she immigrated to the US, where she began her baseball career with the New York Wonderbolts and quickly rose the ranks to become team captain. Pitcher, killer curveball. [Inspired by Dorothy Arzner]
Soren "Baby Face" Christensen, Scandinavian-English American. Lives in Brooklyn near the Fifth Avenue Line. Competitive pie eater. Slugger, with a 0.340 batting average. Mama's boy. Used to work on an airstrip and fly in the airmail service in the early 1920s. [Inspired by Babe Ruth, Superman, and the human form of the tanukis from Pom Poko]
Faizah "Fleetfoot" Farraj, 2nd-gen Syrian American. Lives in Little Syria, Manhattan with her family. Has been playing baseball all her life. Fastest sprinter on the team, infamous base-stealer. Despite being one of the youngest on the team, she has a head of grey hair due to a magical incident from her childhood. Speaks with a lisp. [No inspiration]
