Idk remember the last time i posted but like--- I'm back!! With rappa headcanons of his past!!!
• so he grows up in a strict household and his parents are expecting him to grow up academically and become a doctor or something
•when his quirk roles in he develops a sense of wanting to use his quirk, but overtime it grows into an obsession of fighting. He starts fights in school and after the 10th time of his parents going into the principal's office they decided to home school
•this didn't work out though. He'd mostly beat up the tutors without fail. Eventually he started stealing money from his parents and he used it to bribe a tutor to let him go out without telling his parents
• oneday he just happens to stumble upon the underground masquerade fighting ring. He goes in to find a fight going on and stares in awe as a fighter completely crushes his openent. He come back day aftee day to see the fights
• months pass and oneday when he watching some guy bumped into him and wanted to start a fight with him. Rappa doesn't back down an starts it up soon peoole starts to surrond them
• it goes on until someone breaks up the fight. It's the same guy that he saw the first time he came here. The masquerade champion. He breaks up the fight and drags rappa outside sparing the other guy
• he tells rappa to go home that this ain't no place for a kid. 17 yrs old rappa ain't happy and yells at the guy saying he could have finished the fight himself. Rappa challenge him to a fight but he refuses saying it wouldn't be fair as rappa is already injured
• he explains his code of honor to rappa and offers him the chance to train under him and teach him properly. Rappa agrees and comes back everyday to learn
•they champion grows to be rappas father/mentor figure and he spends years fighting. By then rappas like 23yrs old and has ran away from home and his parents aint too happy about this.
• they report to the heroes that their son has been kidnapped and they get sent after him. His mentor fights and almost wins but then he gets shot and stabbed repeatedly. This is heartbreakinglu traumatizing for rappa
• he then dedicates his life to fighting in the ring. He will not spare anyone at all and qill give them a fight to the death. But then overhaul enters the fight. He uses his quirk to win and rappa us not happy.
•He did not want to lose this way. He wants to die an honourable death and go out fighting. So rappa joins the shie hassaikai just to duel with overhaul. And will not stop until overhaul kills him with his bear hands
•he has a pet snapping turtle, dont ask me why
•he secretly loves sweets and baking
I had more detail before but i didn't save the first draft so that sucks T-T

Hello fellow viewers, I decided to post another drawing of mine that I actually drew six years ago, and like my previous drawing (The sentient flying ship) this character is for a scrapped(?) video game of mine. This character of mine is a teenage Chein (The name of his species who is the embodiment/personification of darkness) named Shie who initially works for his father Chie (The 2nd antagonist of the game) as a guard until he meets the protagonist and had to go on a journey with them, I think It's because he's initially a prisoner/captive until he realizes what he, his father, their army, and the villainess they joined forces with is doing is bad. He's also the love interest of one of the characters and his father Chie is the leader of the Chein which probably makes him a prince.

Don't look, i'm about to overthink this panel
Tumblr media
Long post under the cut.
Notwithstanding that I can't figure out what's going on with Aizawa's legs here because he's twisted around or something—it's a good panel. Look at them, they're adorable. 11/10 no notes.
Actually that's not true I have so many notes.
Will someone also please get this man a blanket for god's sake
I'm going to unpack the implications here from two perspectives: Aizawa telling Eri he got hit by a truck, and Eri trying (and failing) to save Aizawa.
Tis But A Flesh Wound
Aizawa tells Eri he got hit by a truck, and a common interpretation I've seen of this is that nobody told her what happened to him. I don't necessarily think this is true, because:
A) She rewound Mirio the day before the raid
Tumblr media
B) She was watching the fight on TV with All Might.
Tumblr media
Canonically, she is at least tangentially aware of what happened. Aizawa also knows that she's at least somewhat aware of what happened, vis-a-vis excerpt A.
I've also seen the interpretation that Aizawa is trying to obfuscate the truth about his injuries from her (presumably because the quirk-deleting bullets were created from her blood), but again, she was watching the fight on TV.
The most rational (hah) explanation is that he's just back on his bullshit, lying to children for his own amusement.
which is. hysterical.
Tumblr media
Anyways, onto item 2!
The Deus Ex Machina
As we saw above, Eri rewound Mirio the day before the raid. I am not a scholar of the BNHA timeline, but I did do some research while I was writing Nine Lives. My understanding is as follows:
The Shie Hassaikai raid is sometime in September
The Jaku raid is at the end of March
Mirio corroborates these two points when he arrives at Jaku, noting that he's been out of the game for about 6 months
Tumblr media
Post-Jaku is where the timeline gets weird.
Tartarus is breached the night of the raid on Jaku and Gunga
Midoriya is brought back to UA about a month after that
The Star & Stripe fight happens the day after that
The day after that, All Might reveals they have at least a week to prepare for the final battle. Aoyama is revealed to be the traitor on the same day.
In summary, the final battle happens somewhere in the ballpark of a month and a half to two months after Jaku / Gunga.
Tumblr media
With the timeline sort of squared away, let's move on to the interpretation I've seen some readers make, which is that Eri didn't have enough energy to rewind Aizawa. The translation of Ectoplasm's dialogue has varied between the original leaks, the fan scanlation, and the official release, leading to some ambiguity of interpretation here, but there are a few different reasons that this doesn't make any sense:
Based on the timeline outlined above, where Eri successfully sends Mirio back 6 months on the day before the raid, it doesn't really make sense that 0 to 2 months later, she couldn't hypothetically rewind Aizawa by 0 to 2 months after he loses his leg and eye. Eri's power is wishy washy at best, but this seems like it's entirely within the realm of plausibility if Aizawa wanted to be rewound.
From a storytelling standpoint, what's the point of rewinding Aizawa to de-nerf him for the final battle if him and Monoma are ultimately removed from the fight via Sad Man's Parade anyway?
My interpretation is that this doesn't actually have anything to do with Eri trying and failing to rewind Aizawa, but rather she's trying to go rescue Midoriya and help him the same way that she did during the Shie Hassaikai raid.
Tumblr media
The inference Ectoplasm is making is that it's too late for that, because she's at home watching the fight on TV rather than already being on the battlefield. This was also the case at Jaku, where she was canonically watching the fight on TV with All Might. She must have seen Aizawa go down and wanted to go save him, but it was already too late for her to try to help.
There's an entire separate essay worth of discussion on why Aizawa continues to live with one leg and one eye (both from a canon and a meta perspective), but I won't get into that here.
In conclusion:
This panel is fucking adorable
Aizawa continues to lie to children for fun and profit
Eri is baby and is physically perfectly capable of controlling her power at this juncture, she's just geographically removed from the action because she's like seven years old
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Concert For You
SUMMARY: You overheard your boss/crush talking about how he loved you, so a concert made especially for him is the best way to tell him you feel the same way, right? WORD COUNT: 1.2k
WARNINGS: pure fluff, mutual pining, awkwardness, you singing in front of an audience.
A/N: Ahaha this is partly me writing this because I have a solo in May where I sing ‘Walking on Sunshine’ and I was thinking about how I should dance in the shower so uh- yeah- and then I was like “Why the heck not” so I added another 80′s song- lmao- anyways here’s song one and song two. A/N PART 2: Originally posted here.

Tumblr media
"I used to think maybe you love me, now baby I'm sure~" Your smile grew, swaying a bit as you sang into the mic, pointing at the audience. "And I just can't wait till the day when you knock on my door~"
The audience was entranced by your voice, or your looks, or maybe they were just too drunk to know what was going on. Whatever it was, they all loved you.
You had done this on a whim, really; you had heard your crush, Chisaki, talking in a muttered voice about how he had a crush on you to... Who was it? One of his most trusted people. So, as a hint—if it could even count as one—you invited him to an impromptu concert.
The male in question was watching you, arms crossed over his chest. A faint flush was steadily growing on his cheeks, but he ignored it. He just watched you; you were in such a pretty outfit. He loved it, but he knew he shouldn't say anything about it, lest he get teased.
He was enjoying the 'concert', although he really didn't want to watch you with all the others... He wanted you to sing to him personally. Not that he'd ever admit it to you.
After you finished the song, you bowed, smiling brightly at the cheers and calls for an encore. You shook your head slightly, laughing a little as you walked off, trying to find the young leader of the Shie Hassaikai. He had to be here somewhere... You had invited him personally, and anyways, he'd have heard about this, since you had talked about it to quite a few members.
Well... Not like you were begging for his attention. He was your employer, and it was completely inappropriate to think of him this way... But whatever.
Still, where was he... You blinked as you ran in to someone, an apology falling from your lips as you glanced up into beautiful golden eyes. His eyes.
"Oh- Chisaki-san." You smiled a little at him, looking a bit uncertain for the first time this night. "Did you like the concert?"
The male nodded slightly. "Yeah... I did. I enjoyed it a lot." He smiled faintly, not that it would show through the mask. "I really liked listening to your voice. Not to mention you sang in English... That's impressive. Could you sing a bit more for me?"
Your eyes widened slightly before you nodded, smiling a little more. "Yes, of course! What would you like me to sing?" Your head tilted slightly to the side as you watched him.
He paused for a moment, thinking. "Well... Anything's fine."
You hummed softly, thinking for a moment before deciding on a song. Before you could speak, Chisaki grabbed your arm, tugging you out of the room. "...I want it to be more private, so I can hear you better," he mumbled, a weak excuse, but he didn't care. All he wanted was to be with you.
You blinked, eyes wide. You were seriously rethinking the song you had picked... But hey, too late now. And you knew the lyrics by heart.
You walked in to a room, blinking as you saw a bed. Was this... His room...? You felt your cheeks burn at the thought, but shook it off. You took out your phone, looking for a karaoke version of the song. "For the... background music," you told him when you felt his questioning look on you.
He sighed a little, sitting down on the bed and pretty much just staring at you as you found the song, playing on it and placing your phone down as you heard the first few notes play before you opened your mouth to sing.
"I could stay awake, just to hear you breathing..." You took in another breath, not really meeting his gaze. "Watch you smile while you are sleeping, while you're far away and dreaming..." You closed your eyes, knowing that your cheeks were growing redder as you sang.
Soon, you reached the chorus: "Don't want to close my eyes, I don't want to fall asleep!" Your eyes fluttered open, gaze meeting his unreadable expression. You smiled a little more, the perfect performer. "'Cause I'd miss you, babe, and I don't want to miss a thing..."
You finally finished the song, awkwardly shifting in place as you watched him, unsure on what to do now. It wasn't often that you got to sing in front of one singular person, especially not your boss/crush.
Chisaki, on the other hand, was frozen, eyes wide. Your voice... He was enamored with it. It was so nice... "Why'd you choose that song? I'm curious." Way more than just 'curious', honestly. Those were love songs, right? He had heard some of the other members of the Shie Hassaikai listening to them sometimes. Half of them wanted to fall in love with someone, or have their feelings reciprocated, or all that. A few months ago, he would've scoffed. But now... He knew how they felt. He wanted you to like him back.
You paused a little. "Well, it's because I like you, Chisaki-san..." You murmured with a small smile.
Like him? In what way? His breathing sped up ever so slightly as he watched you. "Like me? Really...?" He hated this feeling. He knew he would most likely get crushed if he got rejected... But still. He walked a bit closer. Usually, he'd be disgusted by being this close to someone... But honestly, if you were the person making him sick, it was better. He'd rather it be you than anyone else.
You stared at him, blinking slightly in surprise at how close he was. You felt your cheeks grow a bit warmer as you watched him. What was going on...
"Do you have a crush on me, perhaps...?" He murmured softly, gazing in to your soft eyes. You really were so pretty...
"Well... Would you be mad if I say... Yes...?" You murmured, almost a whisper.
His eyes widened slightly in surprise before he shook his head. "No... I'm happy, really." He smiled ever so slightly, relaxing. "I'm glad you like me..." A gloved hand moved to cup your cheek gently, smile growing as he watched you lean in to his touch.
"Mhm, same here..." You smiled even more, content. "But, isn't it a bit inappropriate to have you as my boss and my partner?"
Chisaki rolled his eyes. "It doesn't matter. I'm the boss of this place anyways. Where would you even go if you weren't working, anyway?"
"Touché. I'd probably just stay with you full time, then."
"Well, I wouldn't exactly mind that..."
"I guess you wouldn't." You let out a laugh, shaking your head slightly.
He smiled a little more, relaxing as he pulled you to his neatly made bed, sitting down and resting his head on your shoulder. He was... Quite cuddly, which surprised you a bit. But, it was cute.
You gently ran a hand through his hair, humming a small tune as he snuggled in to you. A small smile grew on your lips, relaxing. He really was adorable.
Chisaki was satisfied. He had you, all to himself, and you were just staying with him, not going away. He let out a soft murmur at your touch, nuzzling in to you more. He really hoped you would stay with him forever... He didn't want you to go away, not ever.

I noticed you have an overhaul multi chapter fic on your wip list, and in kinda curious to see what it’s about 👀
I do!! It is tentatively titled "Placebo".
The basic plot is Quirkless Reader/OC is sold to the Shie Hassaikai by her Dad to pay off a debt and Chisaki realizes that he can use her as sort of a genetic map to finish the quirk-erasing bullets. She ends up idolizing him as a savior and he decides to use that to his advantage. (Gah, I suck at loglines TT_TT)
Chisaki is a really interesting character to me. And I've noticed a lot of fics with him tend to focus on an obsessed yandere/kidnapper & explicit Non-Con angle - which I don't think is necessarily an incorrect read - but personally, I think one of the reasons he's so powerful in the series is because of what a master manipulator he is even without violence. Most of the Eight Bullets follow Chisaki because of their legitimate devotion to him. The guy has a fucking way with people, particularly with exploiting victims. He doesn't use physical violence against Eri to keep her in line - he uses mental manipulation.
Tumblr media
"Someone else is about to die because of you! Is that really what you want, Eri?!"
"How many times do I have to tell you? It's your fault. You break people."
"I always have to get my hands dirty because of your selfishness".
So I'm more interested in exploring that angle through the story of a mutually unhealthy relationship in a long-fic, rather than a straight up violent kidnapper/kidnappee scenario.
I also think the idea of a redemption arc for Chisaki following the loss of his arms is a really interesting challenge too. I started the fic *looks at doc date* WOW, in February 2021 lol. So before the Tartarus Escapees Arc. I was super excited to see what Horikoshi would do with his character when he was out and...
...meh?
From a bigger picture perspective, Chisaki definitely served his purpose. The story needs to go a long way to justify why Deku will save Shigaraki (especially in these recent chapters, holy shit lol), and having him save Chisaki - probably the most heinous villain aside from AFO that he's come across - from the hostage situation with Lady Nagant goes a long way to make that happen. It shows that when Deku says he wants to save everyone - he freaking means EVERYONE.
...buuuuut the villain-stan in me still wishes that the mental state of Chisaki and the making amends with Eri aspect could've been explored more. So I'd like to do that lol. My long-fics tend to be character studies at their core, lol. (One-shots tend to be a little more indulgent xD)
Also ugh Kellen Goff and Kenjiro Tsuda -- Chisaki, has the sexiest fucking voice in both Japanese and English, whaddup - don't @ me lol.
Haha, not me making a whole Overhaul meta from a quick question about a WIP. 😅 I just have a lot of thoughts lmao.
I might post a preview here if people are interested, but the actual fic itself probably won't be out for a while. I would like to finish Time to Pretend first, and the outline and chapters I have written for this project need some serious revisions. The Protag is also a named OC originally, but I've actually been pretty happy with this experiment I tried out with using a 3rd Person Reader/Nameless OC for "Play Nice", so I'm kind of mulling over if I want to give this fic the same treatment.

Yanno, I intended on releasing this beast yesterday but it just kept growing longer and longer as I edited it… truly sorry. This is part two to this post. They can be read independently as I only reference the other one like once but it does add up with what I write here. Again I’ll almost only be talking about the Overhaul arc in this, will mention a little of post-Tartarus breakout moments though.
Part 2: All BNHA villains had shitty childhoods, including Overhaul
It is not surprising. Hori is driving home this point a lot lately. But even without purely relying on this logic it is easily visible that whatever happened to Kai before the Yakuza boss picked him up, it wasn't pretty. This can be seen with Kai not only as a child but also with how he acts as an adult.
Tumblr media
First of all let's address the elephant in the room. From canon we know that Kai was picked up by the boss from the streets as a child. ( I am guessing around 10 years or younger, but it's difficult to tell. ) It is stated that he had nowhere to go, or in other words; either he was entirely abandoned by whoever used to be his guardian(s) or he fled from them.
In the first panel of the scene, we see the boss depicted. He hardly appears friendly, considering his face is entirely covered in shadow and the way he is drawn looking down upon the viewer. It shows how from Kai’s point of view the man is entirely unknown and perhaps even scary, but in spite of how uninviting he seems Kai goes with him. He has no other choice.
Adding onto this is the fact that even about two decades later Chisaki still feels in debt to the boss for showing the basic empathy of not letting a child die on the streets. He expresses a need to pay him back, and apparently has frequently done so before as the boss is aware of it.
Tumblr media
-
Tumblr media
You’d think that after such a long time Chisaki would have let it go but apparently in spite of everything that he did for the Hassaikai so far he feels like it is not enough yet. It leaves the impression that whoever his guardians were previous to him being found, they must have made him believe him that he wasn't worth being taken care of, or at the very least that he had to put himself to work to be worth it. While the reason for him being abandoned is entirely unclear, it probably further drove home that message of “ You didn’t work hard enough to be worthy of being taken care of. “.
" Hardworking " is a notable characteristic of Chisaki. As explicitly described by Chrono and shown throughout the Overhaul arc, Chisaki goes through great lengths to strengthen and rebuild the Shie Hassaikai.
Tumblr media
However, his relationship with the organisation is overall very strange when looked upon more closely.
As made clear in the arguments he has with the boss, Chisaki cares little for the values and traditions of the Yakuza. He acts violent, disobeys the man's wishes and repeatedly gets in arguments with him due to his tendency to go too far and stray from the Yakuza way. It escalates to the point that the boss tells Chisaki he needs to leave the organisation. Then, by the time he has forcefully taken control of the Hassaikai many of the "original Yakuza members" within it hate him, describing him as running wild and disrespecting what they stand for. Likewise Chisaki expresses that he does not care for their ideas of what’s important or their survival either.
Tumblr media
-
Tumblr media
-
Tumblr media
This repeated behaviour of disrespecting and dismissing the Yakuza way stands in stark contrast to the fact that Chisaki clearly cares a lot about the organisation. This again is shown in many ways throughout the Overhaul arc. For one Chisaki is repeatedly shown to get into violent conflict with those who “disrespect the Yakuza '', though most outstanding is his life-goal is to restore the Shie Hassaikai into power. The plan he develops with the quirk destroying drug is dangerous and downright reckless, however he keeps clinging to it in spite of people such as Kurono telling him he would fail and the boss expressing his disagreement with it. His dedication to it is described as obsessive. In addition, I’d also like to point out that in his last fight with the boss, Chisaki takes action to get rid of the boss the very moment he threatens to kick Chisaki from the Shie Hassaikai. After everything they went through, being forced to leave was the one verdict from the boss he simply couldn’t accept.
Tumblr media
Chisaki loves the Hassaikai in spite of feeling no connection or desire to conform to what it actually means to be a Yakuza. So he tries to forcefully mend the organisation into what he thinks it should be and what he believes would lead to success. By the time of the Overhaul arc he could have simply abandoned the title of “Yakuza” but he instead clings to that identity like it is his lifeline. That is why whenever the Yakuza are insulted, he protects their good reputation so aggressively, as he considers an attack on them to be a personal attack on himself.
Looking back at the fact that he’d been abandoned as a child, it gives the impression that prior to the Yakuza he has not had a chance to develop an identity of his own, or one he feels happy about. This may also be why he renamed himself to “Overhaul” after taking over. When Mirio calls him “Chisaki” during their fight he grows mad and says the other wasn’t allowed to call him by that name as he “had abandoned it”. After all it is the name he already carried upon meeting the boss.
.
Now, let's get back to talking about kid Kai. Or specifically the disposition he had in the few scenes we see of him.
To put it simply; he does not look like a happy child in any of them. In two of them Hori drew his face obscured by shadows and overall his expression can be described as hard to read, somewhat terrified. The last is the only scene where it's confirmed that he has been with the boss for a while already and also the only one where he looks like a normal child. It is as though it took the care and presence of the man for Kai to achieve this sense of normalcy in the first place. Nevertheless, even in that scene the expression he wears is one of sadness. This may absolutely be because he is being scolded, but it is still outstanding that Hori never showed the boy being happy, not even in a memory Chisaki seems to remember fondly as an adult.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reading further into this, and this is more speculative again / based upon personal impressions; Chisaki doesn’t seem particularly happy as an adult either. He wears a mask so it is impossible to tell for sure but, except for that one time he fake-smiles at Deku, I cannot think of a single instance where I had the impression that Chisaki was smiling under his mask. He usually appears to be either serious, neutrally cold or angry. ( And well, post Tartarus he is simply downright miserable the whole time but that’s another topic. )
( Looking back at my previous post, this would also tie in as another contrast / parallel to Eri. Her first major plot after being saved from Overhaul is for her to "learn how to smile again". It is one of her first steps of overcoming her trauma. In contrast Kai appears to be the traumatised child who's never learned how to smile again. Eri thus begins to distance herself from him, in more than one way. )
.
Returning to the scene of a young Kai being scolded by Pops; It is said that Kai picked a fight with civilians who had insulted the Yakuza. This is something he is later shown to still be doing as an adult; beating up those who did not show him the proper respect. So, we can assume that he never ceased this pattern in spite of what the boss said to him. ( Then again, it isn’t like Chisaki ever seems to listen to the boss’s wishes. ) Now, especially speaking of a child, repeated violent behaviour typically points towards deeper lying issues and trouble that they have. Whatever they may be, considering that Chisaki never ceased to be violent, these issues apparently have never been addressed at all, or only unsuccessfully.
Tumblr media
Finally, let’s talk about interpersonal relationships, which generally say quite a lot about a person’s well-being. I believe I will hardly have to provide proof to the statement that Chisaki has almost exclusively poor relationships.
First, there is the obvious abusive relationship between him and Eri, which is a whole other topic to talk about so I will keep it brief; he abuses and guilt trips her, he treats her like an object he owns, he shows absolutely no desire to interact with her other than to perform cruel experiments on her, and in fact he probably did not even try to view her as a human being in the first place.
Looking at the rest of the Hassaikai members, there is always a strong power imbalance between Chisaki and his followers. Chisaki acts very controlling with his men. Disobedience is severely punished by death and it is repeatedly made clear that Chisaki sees them as nothing but pawns for his plans. Several of his men put him on a pedestal and look up to him, while he distances himself from them and looks down upon them so strongly he “ does not even want to breathe the same air as them “.
Calling other people “diseased” and the frequently noted “hero syndrome” is something Chisaki uses in general to distance himself from others. From his point of view everyone else is diseased and he is the only one who sees the truth. His attitude doesn’t just present as a lack of empathy but a complete detachment from other people.
The only somewhat healthy relationship he appears to have among those working for him is Kurono, who judging by his own statements appears to have known Chisaki since childhood. Chisaki respects him enough to let him raise concerns about his plans ( though Chisaki dismisses them ) and to let Kurono follow him when he flees with Eri, instead of being left behind as canon fodder like the rest. However even Kurono is often treated by Chisaki like another obedient tool. Likewise Kurono expresses his admiration for Chisaki, rather than looking at him as an equal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
Tumblr media
However, what stands out as Chisaki's poorest relationship of them all is the one he has with the boss himself. The boss means everything to Chisaki. Especially the more recent chapters post Tartarus breakout drive that message home. In his deranged, helpless state all he can think about is somehow getting back to the boss; to apologise to him, to somehow mend what has been broken and to find comfort with his father figure. As Chisaki states himself; the boss is all he has left. He appears to be entirely emotionally dependent on the man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What truly makes their relationship so poor is that in spite of the emotions he has for the boss, and in spite of how much he expresses that everything he does is for the sake of this man, Chisaki does not even seem to even try to understand the boss’s point of view, or show any respect or empathy for his wishes.
As I stated previously, throughout the Overhaul arc there are multiple instances of fights between the two of them. The boss repeatedly criticises Chisaki for his actions; first by talking about how it breaks Yakuza code, later calling Chisaki’s plans downright inhumane and questioning how little he cares for people. Nevertheless Chisaki keeps insisting on his ideas. He chooses not to engage with the criticism and instead insists that the boss will understand his point of view once his plans are realised.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their fights finally escalate when Chisaki decides to put the boss into a coma. Although it is clear Chisaki also took this action to prevent the boss from kicking him from the Hassaikai, it says a lot about Chisaki that he chooses to rather make the boss fall asleep and store him away in a room than to further argue with him. Even more, it is outstanding how Chisaki genuinely believes that once the boss wakes up he will forgive him for doing so. He visits the man in his coma, talking to him like they were still on good terms. He also does not take his title from him and preserves his position as the true leader of the Hassaikai as though nothing has changed. ( This is not too clear in the English version but the translation “young boss” refers to Chisaki’s title in the Yakuza “Wakagashira”. The Waka is only the second in command, the “Oyaji” is the only true boss, which is what he calls the old man. )
He has absolutely no understanding for how the boss would react to being put in a coma ( for who knows how long ) and to be eventually woken up to the sight that Chisaki had realised exactly the plans he’s told him not to. All the while Chisaki still keeps telling himself that he does it all “ for the boss’s sake “. He is again entirely detached from the reality of what the boss actually wishes.
Tumblr media
In the end this behaviour of his complements the image of his upbringing quite well. Empathy and the ability to understand other people’s point of view is something he should have been taught to him at a young age, yet he entirely fails in those categories. This again could be the result of neglect in those crucial early years of development.
Together it all adds to the image of a child who grew up uncertain and disturbed; emotionally, in his own identity, and in his relationships to others. These issues carried over into adulthood and served as groundwork for the villain known as Overhaul. A man who fails to connect to the people in his life and who does not hesitate to commit cruel, inhuman acts to preserve the confused identity he created for himself.

I think ironically the best execution of the "doppelganger" idea was not in FF but the first Clown in the factory in SE - it was creepy, original, stylish and in a way meaningful. Sadly the later clowns just got more and more lame and felt just as generic bad guy filler villians (Think Justins clown and Medusas little Purple one were still kinda cool, guess video-gamey anime powerups are a guilty pleasure😂🤷🏿‍♂️)
…Oh, wow, that is a good point: we have Clown Maka right here as the similar-but-different-enough version of our main Maka.
(I’m not going to use that L-word, given the disablism inherent to it.)
Let me talk about the later clowns first, because what I have to say about Clown Maka and the Fire Force doppelgangers is going to take a lot of time.
Ohkubo has shown before he can make even minor villains have eye-catching designs, compelling personalities, and a memorable presence and impact on the story. You point out that you like video game power-ups, similar to Justin’s clown and Medusa’s little one. Think about even the minor antagonists you fight in boss battles in the Soul Eater video game Monotone Princess, where Kill Bell and others still have eye-catching designs, compelling (if simple) personalities (“simple” as these are mini-bosses, not the main adversaries), and a memorable presence (because they need to be a memorable fight) and an impact on the story (because it builds up to facing off against Ponera and Grimoire later).
The clowns, then, should have that kind of approach: eye-catching designs, compelling personalities, and a memorable presence and impact. But those clowns on the Moon in the final arc just didn’t. I work with my friend on revising these original tales for fanfics--and just now I had to check over notes and the Soul Eater Wiki to remember who Kaguya, White Rabbit, and Moonlight are. The three had memorable designs, but Kaguya was about the only one with any personality (and not a memorable or engaging one at that), and their presence was just to be antagonists. At least when My Hero Academia tried this boss battle approach in the Shie Hassaikai arc, you had characters who either helped define our protagonists (Rappa helped define Eijiro), helped define each other (Tengai defines Rappa, Chronostasis defines Overhaul), or defined antagonists (Mimic’s short temper defines how smart Toga and Twice are despite their initial goofiness). But what was gained in Soul Eater? What did we learn from seeing Kid, Stein, Marie, and others against the Moon Clowns? None of them seemed to gain new character dimensions.
As for Clown Maka: I don’t think that arc quite did a good enough job at establishing why the Clown Maka is important. Granted, moments of making Maka feel self-doubt, while welcome, can feel tacked on or not as impactful as they could be: see how abrupt it is to have Maka jealous over Soul’s stalker and her own feelings that she is not worthy to wield his Death Scythe form. But the Clown Maka story was enough to introduce her own self-doubts, and it had enough “magic” to have it make sense (“the Madness just makes you feel bad and not in a sound mind,” that’s enough justification). So, yeah, it’s meaningful.
The more I re-read the doppelgangers in Fire Force, they seem to exist as Ohkubo’s soapboxes against the audience. “Oh, people hate on how I write Tamaki--so I’ll have Doppel!Assault call her a whore and make it seem like any readers criticizing my writing are just prudes and SWERFs and the real bad guys.” “Oh, people think I under-wrote Benimaru and Kurono and didn’t plumb their depths of character complexity, or vastly misinterpret who those characters are--I’ll just make the Doppels of Benimaru and Kurono into exaggerated walking caricatures.”
It ends up robbing any meaning from what we should get from other doppelgangers. As I say in another post, we needed Mari to be something more as a character so that the Evangelist’s flaws are emphasized. We abruptly wrap up Iris being a doppelganger to give Amaterasu a far-too-late redemption moment before we even really made Amaterasu much of a character when she was pretty much just a plot device or just an opposing force of nature. The doppelgangers of Burns and Konro are just here to show how much more powerful Burns and Konro are. Hibana’s doppelganger…existed, I don’t know why (or was that just Jonah in disguise?). Akitaru’s doppelganger disappears right after killing Akitaru, just here for a jump scare--which would be fine if we had just a hint of characterization to again show how that doppel is not who Akitaru is.
The problem with the doppelgangers, as I talk about in the other post regarding Mari being the doppelganger of the Evangelist, is that the story could have taken a simpler approach--just make the doppelganger the opposite of the character, to characterize the character by negatives, by showing us all that they are not--and instead took a more complex approach that, while ambitious, did not work. The more ambitious, complex approach was that the doppelgangers are who the world imagines that person to be…but that didn’t work, for two reasons.
The first reason is lore: we were told someone gains pyrokinetic abilities without becoming an Infernal if that person and their doppelganger merge and if that person and their doppelganger are exactly the same--that who they really are, and how the world sees them, are perfectly the same. By that argument, Shinra, Arthur, Tamaki, Maki, Takehisa, Hibana, Benimaru, Kurono, and so on are exactly the same as who they are and how the world sees them…but that’s not true. No person is exactly how the world sees them. That’s not even getting into how you are not the same person in all contexts and settings, around all the same people, around your family as you would be around your friends. Shinra is seen as a killer; he is not. Tamaki is seen as a flirt, a whore, someone trying to get into people’s pants and expose herself in public: she is none of those things, she’s not even interested in dating, the entire point of her final arc is her refusal to embrace that “symbol of life / symbol of fanservice” shit. And on and on. I know this gets swept under the rug later as “well, the physics of the world are changing so much, so that rule about doppelgangers and gaining pyrokinetic abilities no longer matters, hence how Benimaru can still have his doppel show up even though he should already be merged with his own in order to have pyrokinetic abilities,” but that rule change doesn’t negate what I just pointed out about Shinra and Tamaki and so on.
The second reason is thematics: what is learned about this? At least if a doppel is your opposite, you are characterizing your character by contrasting them with the person they are not. But when you take the approach Fire Force does, where a doppel is how the world sees you, what is gained? This was a missed opportunity. Maki could have faced a doppel to really emphasize that, while people see her a cute daddy’s girl and someone in love with love and someone they would like to date, they are ignoring that, even if she is daddy’s girl and in love with love, she is also a passionate fighter who will protect her friends and is willing to beat the shit out of someone. Hibana put up a front that she hates the past, hates the world, hates her sister, just wants to make money and advance science--but that is not all she is, and we don’t see her fight a doppel who is a caricature of all of those traits, or, better yet, confront a doppel who actually is more like her real self, who is someone who is traumatized, who wants to enjoy the beauty of nature and the world, who loves Iris, who would love to get back to her faith and her family but instead fills that void with work and inhuman experiments. It feels like a failure of the theme.

Creepy, anomalous, and the unexplained. How would the BNHA Villains translate into the SCP universe? Site ██ is the facility responsible for seventeen (17) characters based on the LOV and Shie Hassaikai members. Feel free to browse the documents, just make sure you have proper clearance.

Collection post of my thought process on making each of them
League of Villains
☁ Tomura Shigaraki (SCP-9404) | AO3 Link
SCP-9404 is a humanoid creature of unknown origin that stands roughly 2m in height. The subject has a slim and lanky form with elongated arms. SCP-9404’s form has tattered wings sprouting from its back that resemble that of a Arcte Coerula (Ramie Moth), with a wingspan of 6m. The subject has white hair that barely reaches its shoulders with eyes that are solid white. SCP-9404 can understand human speech and possesses the ability to communicate verbally.
☁ Spinner (SCP-9808) | AO3 Link
SCP-9808 is a lizard-like humanoid entity covered in green scales, roughly 170cm in height. SCP-9808’s eyes are oversized compared to that of a human, even lacking eyelids, and are pink in color. The subject possesses talon-like claws on its hands which possess the ability to tear through most durable materials with ease.
☁ Dabi (SCP-9118) | AO3 Link
SCP-9118, formerly known as [DATA EXPUNGED], is currently a sentient humanoid composite of flames. The subject stands roughly 200m in height and appears to burn without an identified fuel source. The subject possesses the ability to mimic traits like a standard human such as walking and holding objects, even though the objects are still affected by the fire. SCP-9118 expresses high intelligence and has the ability to communicate through unknown methods.
☁ Himiko Toga (SCP-9807) | AO3 Link
SCP-9807 is an ornate hunting dagger, with a wooden carved handle, of unknown origin. The handle of the knife has a carving of a sparrow which has been stained red. The anomalous effects begin the second a user wields SCP-9807. Once someone holds the object they begin having hallucinations of a red sparrow, henceforth known as SCP-9807-A. Once a user sees SCP-9807-A their positive feelings towards others will become warped, with all positive affections becoming extreme infatuation. SCP-9807-A will talk to the user, trying to convince them to kill those they love, claiming that bathing in their blood is the true way to become one with them.
☁ Twice (SCP-9510) | AO3 Link
SCP-9510 is a malleable amorphous blob that has a chemical makeup and consistency similar to mud that measures roughly 0.6m in height and weighs 27kg, in its docile state. The subject’s color is an imperfect mixture of light and dark gray. SCP-9510 has beady black eyes, with no eyelids, and possesses the ability to move them around its form at will. SCP-9510 understands human speech but is incapable of verbal or telepathic communication.
☁ Mr. Compress (SCP-9102) | AO3 Link
SCP-9102 appears to be a white mask, made up of REDACTED, that uses black geometrical patterns to display the user's emotions. The pattern forms to imitate facial expressions for various emotions. Personnel are to report immediately to Lead Researcher ██████ if the mask is to ever go blank, as seen in Addendum 9102-05.
Shie Hassaikai
☁ Rappa (SCP-8111) | AO3 Link
SCP-8111 is a pair of heavy duty brass knuckles, weighing roughly 0.7kgs. The subject possesses the ability to alter its shape and molds itself to the target’s hand size. Upon the target placing the subject onto their knuckles, they will be filled with intense rage and experience inhuman levels of enhanced strength. Through various testing it has been discovered that the target's strength is amplified ten (10) times that of a standard human.
☁ Hejiki Tengai (SCP-8888) | AO3 Link
SCP-8888 is a set of japa mala beads made with fifty-four (54) rudraksha beads, fifty-four (54) pearl beads, and one (1) guru bead with a tassel made of silk. Each bead measures 10mm in size. After placing SCP-8888 into the target’s right hand and completing a matra (uses only the middle finger and thumb to count each bead), the subject produces a gold tinted translucent impenetrable bubble around the target. The size of the bubble can change at will by the target, the default size being a 1m radius, and the protective bubble can not extend through walls or solid objects. All sound in the bubble is muffled by at least 40% and the target has to maintain strong concentration, in a meditation-like state, for the bubble to remain up.
☁ Touya Setsuno (SCP-8222) | AO3 Link
SCP-8222 is a humanoid creature measuring roughly 1.3m in height. The subject has elongated arms covered in light color feathers that spread out to form wings. The subject's feet appear to mimic that of a raptors, with long sharp talons. SCP-8222’s skin is covered in patches of the same light colored feathers and has blonde feather-like hair on its head. The subject’s eyes appear humanoid but larger in size and gold in color. The subject appears to be able to communicate with human speech and will freely communicate with personnel.
☁ Soramitsu Tabe (SCP-8666) | AO3 Link
SCP-8666 is a humanoid creature of unknown origin, measuring roughly 2m in height. The subject possesses very little muscle mass and is lanky in stature. SCP-8666’s jaw can open five (5) times that of a standard human, allowing it to consume a variety of objects as well as easily consume a human. Most of the subject’s other physical features appear to be comparable to that of a standard human with the exception being enlarged eyes capable of seeing distances of up to 6km away. SCP-8666 is not capable of any human speech but is able to understand the human language to respond in nonverbal gestures.
☁ Yu Hojo (SCP-8777) | AO3 Link
SCP-8777 is a deep underground gem mine located in ██████, ██████. The interior of SCP-8777 resembles that of a standard cavern system filled with unknown crystal formations near the base of the mine. Exposure to the crystal formations for an extended period of time results in multiple severe and fatal side effects, with the exception being SCP-8777-3.
☁ Rikiya Katsukame (SCP-8333) | AO3 Link
SCP-8333 is an anomalous member of the Ursus thibetanus (Asian black bear) family, wearing a bucket that covers its face.
☁ Mimic (SCP-8313) | AO3 Link
SCP-8313 is a sentient fabric doll, roughly 61cm tall and 30cm wide, constructed out of black cotton fabric with a white plastic beak attached to its face. The interior of SCP-8313 is made up of standard poly-fil stuffing. The subject doesn’t display pain when the fabric becomes ripped or torn. SCP-8313 displays high levels of intelligence with the ability to understand human speech and is able to communicate telepathically.
☁ Chronostasis (SCP-8510) | AO3 Link
SCP-8510 is a male humanoid entity that stands roughly 1.82m in height, equipped with a white cloak affixed to its body making its shape indistinguishable. SCP-8510 has gray hair-like appendages attached to its scalp, the ends of each appendage formed into the shape of a clock hand.
☁ Kai Chisaki (SCP-8320) | AO3 Link
SCP-8320 is a sentient deep maroon colored leather corax styled bird-like beak mask, similar to 17th century plague doctors. Targets that come within 3m of the subject feel an immediate draw that pulls them towards SCP-8320, during which they are hit with a strong scent of Mentha × Piperita (Peppermint) and Dianthus Caryophyllus (Carnation). When targets place SCP-8320 onto their face, the subject immediately fuses itself with them. It overhauls the target's DNA, as it begins affecting their biology until it’s satisfied. SCP-8320 can only be removed two ways: by will of SCP-8320 itself or after the target has died, which forces the subject to eject itself from its host.

Blog Masterpost
Ao3: I_Deal_In_Nightmare_Fuel
Dreamwidth: dealer_of_aus_666
Recent/In-Progress Works:
March 2024 Monthly Short Piece, setting down roots: The thing is, Kyouichi has finally and permanently uprooted himself from Ohtori’s poisonous ground, but even as he feels himself growing into something new he’s desperate for familiar soil. The thing is, Wakaba needs a roommate to help pay rent and ease the loneliness, someone who will believe her when she lets something slip about the insanity of her previous school. The thing is, on paper, this new arrangement is perfect for them both. The thing is, in practice it might not be so perfect. A post-canon work for Revolutionary Girl Utena. Featuring Saionji and Wakaba trying to live together after Ohtori and navigate all the mundane difficulties of the real world. Also featuring a few Shie Hassaikai character cameos, because I could not resist. (You can read the entire series of my monthly short pieces, all the way back from August 2016, here.)
And the Universe Said “I Guess We’re Doing This the Hard Way”: My piece for the 2023 Natshig Big Bang. One of two/three chapters published. Neither Todoroki Natsuo nor Shigaraki Tomura put much stock into the concept of soulmates, unlike what seems like every single other person in the world. The future Symbol of Fear would only be weakened by a soulmate, and Natsuo is highly skeptical of the idea of meeting someone magical that will fix all his problems. So how the hell is whoever's in charge of this going to get them together? Spans one day, featuring angry cosmic geese, Todoroki drama, and maybe--just maybe--a little bit of hope for these two cynical dorks.

The Layman's Gambit
by Silver3567
Midoriya Izuku can be described as a painfully average individual.
Plain Looking.
Dull quirk
And Lack of social skills.
In the ever-changing world, he was a constant—the unchangeable.
But what happens when the constant is changed, how will this affect the variables?
Or:
To abandon his painful past, Midoriya Izuku lives the life of a background character (reluctantly). What happens when he's tired of it?
Note: this is an aot x BNHA crossover, it might not seem like it initially. But, yeah it delves a bit into aot later on especially since Izuku has a titan.
