In Silver Flames Cassian thinks Nesta was "a wolf who had never learned how to be a wolf, thanks to that cage humans called propriety and society. And like any maltreated animal, she bit anyone who came near", and I loved seeing Nesta finally getting out of that cage and becoming her true self in this book.

Tower of Dawn spoilers ahead. Scroll away…unless you’re a person that needs to hear this. 🤭
SJM doesn’t NEED 30 books of “build up” for her love stories to be great. The fact some people point this out as an argument for why Gwyn and Azriel can’t be a thing shows that you haven’t read ALL of Sarah’s book.
For those who haven’t read Throne of Glass allow me to introduce you to not just one but TWO couples featured in this book that had ZERO interaction prior to Tower of Dawn. Chaol Westfield and his WIFE Yrene Westfall (Towers) and Nesyrn Faliq and Prince Sartaq.
Neither of these couples were aware of each other prior to this book, two of these characters had very little to no pages time prior to this book too. So your excuse that Sarah can’t write Gwyn and Azriel and make it a good story because there was no previous build up doesn’t fly because Tower of Dawn was a good book and the amount of people that love both these couples prove you so very wrong.
Plus Sarah’s books are almost 1000 pages long sometimes. So you’re telling me that a romance novel with 200-300 pages, that y’all like to say we’ve NEVER read 🙄, will make yall swoon when strangers get together but not Azriel and Gwyn with more the double those pages. Give me a break 🤦🏻♀️🙄

Every bit of pain and sense of loneliness that she had ever felt before this moment faded, erased by the smile that Azriel offered her. She held tightly onto the bond inside her and tugged. This new sensation made them both gasp. Their amazement was soon replaced by matching grins, which then turned into euphoric laughter. His shadows danced along to the sounds of their laughter and the slowly fading song of their mating bond.
The glow of her ribbon dimmed, retreating back inside their hearts along with his darker side of the bond. Fainter and fainter the song went, until it was replaced by another sound that cut off their laughter. It was like a fist pounding against a door and which made the dome of shadows surrounding them shake. Time which had stilled to allow them to bask in the bliss of their bond resumed and reality came rushing back as quickly as it had been chased away. Gwyn stood closer to Azriel, her hands around his middle as concern once again flowed through her.
Azriel’s eyes moved across her face and body. Every thump against the shield that his shadows had turned into stripped a little more of the lightness that had previously settled in him. A few wisps of shadows brushed his ear, murmuring words that Gwyn couldn’t hear. Still, she felt the anger that flooded his side of the bond. The hazel in Azriel’s eyes darkened.
“What did they do to you?” His voice came out pained.

Lay Your Bones Ch.1
In a water world of archipelagos and small lonely islands, a snarky bunch of pirates is the only thing keeping Hybern from completely ruling most of the seas. Magic exists, able to be wielded by mages. However, the long-lived mages are hunted by the Hybern Empire, which forcefully enlists them into its massive fleet as weapons of mass destruction.
The rebel fleet that stands against the Empire is made up of mages and regular human crew members as well as their families. Led by Admiral Helion, captain of the battleship Sunstrike, the fleet has been fighting back against the Hybern Empire for years, earning the reputation of pirates as they attack and sabotage ships, harbors, and floating stations.
The pirate fleet has been searching for a way to break Hybern’s hold on their world, and it seems that a source of great power may finally be in their reach across the expanse of the Prythian Sea. That’s if they can make their way past whirlpools, sea monsters, battleships, and more to reach the treasure they seek.
It’s a magic!pirate!AU with a side of domestic life!

A/N: It’s got pirates, oceans, treasure hunt type adventures, rambunctious second gen kids, complicated family dynamics, and some fluff as everyone fights back against the bad guys! No wings and the powers are a little different, but all mages are still pretty long-lived (800+ is their average lifespan).

Snippet:
The Wavesong’s reputation as the fastest ship in the fleet was being put to the test.
Canon fire shook the air. A cannonball crackling with dark lightning soared right over the deck, close enough that it skimmed the top of the railing and sent up a shower of splinters.
At the helm, Gwyn spun the wheel starboard. The Wavesong responded instantly, veering off to the right and away from the three Hybern ships that had appeared out of the mist.
Nearby, Azriel was using his shadows to arm their own canons, tighten ropes, and unfurl sails. Part of the beauty of the Wavesong and its smaller size and lithe nature as a scouting ship was that together, using their mage abilities to manipulate shadows and light, Gwyn and Azriel could run the entire ship on their own. But that didn’t mean they were alone.
“Can we help?”
“Definitely not,” Gwyn called over her shoulder, her anxiety silently spiking at the reminder that her and Azriel’s seven-year-old twin daughters were on board. She glanced back at the cabin behind her. The top half of the door was open, and Cat peeked over the edge of the bottom half, standing on her tiptoes. Wispy little shadows curled around her shoulders, mixing into her black hair.
Another pair of teal eyes so much like Gwyn’s own joined Cat’s. Seryn frowned at the Hybern ships that were trying to close the distance, her gaze calculating. Sparks of light flickered above her head. “But Mum—”
“Stay inside!” Gwyn ordered.
“We could—” Whatever Cat was about to say was cut off as Azriel’s shadows pushed the top half of the door closed and threw the latch that held the halves of the door together. A flick of Gwyn’s wrist sent a surge of light to push a heavy barrel of water in front of the door. Granted, the two girls working together could most likely use their own powers to tear the door down but they knew better…

Cassian strode in, a tray of food in hand, and halted when he didn’t see her on the bed. His eyes shot to the sunken pool, and she could have sworn he almost dropped the tray onto the white carpet. “I … You.”
His loss of words was enough to pull her from her thoughts, to curve the corners of her mouth upward. “Me?”
He shook his head like a wet dog. “I brought some food. I assumed you'd want dinner.”
“There’s no dining room?”
“There is, but I thought you might need to unwind.”
She surveyed him, surprised that he knew her well enough to guess that the thought of speaking to everyone again, of dressing in suitable clothes, was draining—miserable. Knew her well enough to grasp that she’d rather eat in her room and piece herself together.

Gwyn and Azriel headcanon
Azriel goes to the Palace of Thread and Jewels to pick a ring out for Gwyn. A ring that has a sapphire blue stone in the middle.
At Solstice, he gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him in the training ring where his shadows had not warned him she would be all those days ago.
Gwyn squeals out in delight, which brings a blinding smile to Azriel's face, and of course Gwyn says yes.
At their ceremony, the mating bond snaps into place between them and the ribbon being used glows brighter than the moon in the sky.
They married for love and received the greatest blessing from the Mother ❤
