Tucked up in bed reading and sipping tea.
What do I hear?
Woozy.....weesh.
Quiet pause...
Woooz...weesh.
Kitten snores from BlueBell.
Utter bliss.

When the mind is festering with trouble or the heart torn, we can find healing among the silence of mountains or fields, or listen to the simple, steadying rhythm of waves. The slowness and stillness gradually takes us over. Our breathing deepens and our hearts calm and our hungers relent. When serenity is restored, new perspectives open to us and difficulty can begin to seem like an invitation to new growth.
This invitation to friendship with nature does of course entail a willingness to be alone out there. Yet this aloneness is anything but lonely. Solitude gradually clarifies the heart until a true tranquility is reached. The irony is that at the heart of that aloneness you feel intimately connected with the world. Indeed, the beauty of nature is often the wisest balm for it gently relieves and releases the caged mind.

Back in March, things got tough. Lockdown was hard for many and my life was no different. I started homeschooling my daughter, juggling my business to move both classes and sessions online, and finally seesawing back and forth with a sadly failing marriage.
Tough times, LOTS of transition.
Happy distractions help me deal with troublesome times. Fortunately, the Universe stepped up and an author friend in America contacted me to ask for aid in fact checking the flora and fauna in her most recent book.
Literally, a knight in shining armor would not have offered as much joy and comfort. Fact checking flora and fauna in your current century is one thing but scale it back a few hundred years, well, it is bit more interesting. A happy puzzle and a grand scale distraction. Today, this beautiful parcel arrived from America. How cool is it see your name mentioned in a books acknowledgements? 😯🥳🥰🐞✒

I made a new friend today. It was pretty amazing. All I did was stroll out the front of Callendar House whilst a pair of magpies were flying overhead. The first carried on and alighted on the rooftop whilst the second, cranked his/her head around directly at me, took a hard right turn swinging in a crescent, came to land elegantly right before me. I had to look around to be sure it wasn't my imagination. Completely and utterly flattered, I said hello to Mr/Ms Magpie and sat down on a low wall. Immediately, it was there at my side tilting its head inquisitively whilst I muttered, searching through my bag for a bird friendly treat. People started walking by, pointing, questioning. "It just decided to sit with me", I'd reply. One kind dogwalker passed me some small treats and I handed them to Maggie who, without hesitation, swallowed them whole. Certainly a little bit of well appreciated magic for my day. Whilst getting shopping this evening, I picked up small treats to live in my bag. Should I meet Maggie again, I'll be well prepared.
Completely smitten. 💜💗🕊💗💜

It was a day for walking. The clocks, at least the one previously set back, said 7:30 am but it certainly felt like 8:30. An early morning walk provides real advantages. The park was empty for one. Two, we got spy a tardy barn owl, late returning home, being mobbed by a raucous group of feisty crows. This was just within minutes of leaving the car. Walking with teenage children is always interesting. Sometimes they're quiet, mulling over lifes complexities. But on days like today, the forward projection of their feet seems to release a door and all the items contained within spill forth. I love walking with and listening to my kids. Few, very few, things could be more special. And as beautiful as this tree is, I will gladly avert my gaze and turn my eyes toward muddy shoes and continuing uphill whilst my sweet girl shares her tales. 💜🍁🐞
Motherhood. Autumn. Blessed.

A long walk with a good, old friend, finally sorted my vote for the US election, and a final batch of dahlias from the garden. A particularly fine autumn day. 🍁🍂🍁💗

Walking through a misty and cool, properly autumnal day here in Scotland. Its easy to see why so many people say autumn is their favorite season. The warm tones and cool weather leads a person to turn towards comfort and a cozy winter hibernation. Summer will always be my favorite but autumn sure is pretty. 🍁🍂🍁

Most days, I walk past this tree. I have seen her in all manners of adornment. Bare in deep winter, aspray with pointy buds come March, and currently in autumn, lit up like a foliage flame. So beautiful and also, importantly, so grounding. Noticing the natural rhythm of nature's seasons is an instant tool to escape the whirling and looping of unhelpful and incessant thoughts. The next time you feel stuck and need relief for your mind, take a walk in your local park and woodland. The surrounding beauty will feed your soul and boost resilience.
