Giovanni "John" Gambino was an Italian-born American mobster. Born in Palermo, Sicily, he became a made member of the Gambino crime family in 1975 and a capodecina or captain, and head of the crime family's Sicilian faction, appointed by family boss John Gotti in 1986, according to Mafia turncoat Sammy Gravano. Together with his younger brothers Rosario (Sal) and Giuseppe (Joseph) he formed a faction in the crime family known as the Cherry Hill Gambinos for their base of operation in the New Jersey town of that name. Although they were distant cousins of family boss Carlo Gambino, they did not owe him allegiance. They were Sicilian Mafiosi, men from Palermo, whose father had brought the family to New York in 1964. The Gambino brothers ran the Cafe Valentino on 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. The Gambinos hailed from the Passo di Rigano neighbourhood in Palermo, just as the Inzerillo clan, headed by Salvatore Inzerillo. Together the Inzerillo-Gambino Mafia clan formed a transatlantic Mafia family, based in Palermo and New York. The Inzerillo clan had been on the verge of total extermination by Totò Riina and the Corleonesi during the Second Mafia War in Sicily when in 1981 the family boss Salvatore Inzerillo was killed. With the intervention of the Gambino crime family in New York, a deal was worked out that allowed the surviving Inzerillos to take refuge in the US, with the agreement that none of them, or their offspring, could ever return to Sicily. On November 16, 2017, Gambino died of natural causes in New York. #johngambino #giovannigambino #cherryhill #cherryhillgambinos #gambinofamily #gambinofamily👑 #gambinocrimefamily #johngotti #carlogambino #totoriina #inzerillo #palermo #mafioso #manofhonor #organizedcrime #mafia #straightenedout #sammygravano #italian #italy #italianmafia (at Cherry Hill, New Jersey) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqGWfv6PqAd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On the night of November 15, 2013, a woman driving with her daughter on Ellsworth Avenue in the Bronx saw a parked Lincoln whose driver’s door was partly open. A man’s leg was extended toward the street as if he may have suffered a heart attack or been overcome with drink as he was trying to step out. The woman was preparing to offer assistance when she saw that he had a gunshot wound to the head and that blood was streaming from both his ears. The victim was Michael Meldish, who with his brother Joseph once headed the murderous Purple Gang, named after a Depression-era Detroit outfit. Some have called his killing New York’s last bonafide Mafia hit. Meldish’s crew once did dirty work for the Lucchese, Genovese and Bonanno crime families. But Meldish made the fatal mistake of refusing to pay a gambling debt owed to MattyMadonna, who was then the acting boss of the Lucchese family. Madonna, 84, ordered Meldish be taken out. Stephen Crea, the underboss, helped Madonna make the decision and relayed the order. Londonio, a made member of the family, helped set up Meldish, who was his friend. Caldwell, a mob associate, fired the fatal shot and fled the scene in a car driven by Londonio. This could go down as the last official mafia hit to have taken place. Anthony Salvatore Casso nicknamed "Gaspipe", was an American mobster and underboss of the Lucchese crime family. During his career in organized crime, he was regarded as a "homicidal maniac" in the Italian-American Mafia. Casso is suspected of having committed dozens of murders, and had confessed to involvement in between 15 and 36 murders. Government witness Anthony Accetturo, the former caporegime of The Jersey Crew, once said of Casso, "all he wanted to do is kill, kill, get what you can, even if you didn't earn it". In interviews, and on the witness stand, Casso confessed involvement in the murders of Frank DeCicco, Roy DeMeo, and Vladimir Reznikov. Casso also admitted to several attempts to murder Gambino family boss John Gotti. Following his arrest in 1993, Casso became one of the highest-ranking members of the Mafia to turn informant. After taking a plea agreement, he was placed in the witness protection program, however, in 1998, it was rescinded and Casso was dropped from the program after several infractions. Later that year, a federal judge sentenced him to 455 years in prison for racketeering, extortion, and murder. Casso died in prison custody from complications related to COVID-19 on December 15, 2020. #gaspipe #gaspipecasso #anthonycasso #luchesefamily #luchesecrimefamily #mafia #organizedcrime #underboss #johngotti #sammythebull #roydemeo #newyork #gangster #covid_19 #witnessprotection #informant #serialkiller #massmurder #straightenedout #frankdeccico #mobcops #cosanostra #italian #bestafoods #bestawines (at Peoria, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp8sjzQPBiG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this date in 1999: Gerlado aka “George from Canada” Sciasia was killed in NY. Gerlando "George from Canada" Sciascia (February 15, 1934 – March 18, 1999), was a New York City mobster, and a caporegime of the Bonanno crime family, who was also the Rizzuto’s representative from New York, and was a major narcotics trafficker in Canada, and the United States. Sciascia was born in Cattolica Eraclea in the province of Agrigento, Sicily, the same area as Montreal Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto. In 1955, Sciascia immigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, later moving to the United States, to New York City three years later in 1958. In the 1990s, relations between Massino (Boss of the Bonanno Family) and Sciascia had started to sour. Scascia was becoming more independent of Massino and more aligned with Vito Rizzuto. Growing richer and stronger, Rizzuto became less willing to defer all decisions to the Bonannos. In early 1999, at a wedding anniversary party, Massino gave the following message to Salvatore Vitale: "George has got to go, it’s time to send him a receipt” The plan was for fellow capo Patrick DeFilippo to invite Sciascia to a meeting to resolve an ongoing disagreement with Graziano over a marijuana racket. Massino wanted the Sciascia murder to look like a drug deal gone wrong to avoid friction with the Rizzutos. On March 18, 1999, Sciascia received a note at his jewelry store telling him to meet DeFilippo at a location in Manhattan. There, DeFilippo told Sciascia that they were driving to a different location and the two men were picked up by mobster John Spirito. As Spirito drove the vehicle, DeFilippo shot Sciascia to death with seven bullets. The gunmen then drove to a deserted Bronx street, where they dumped Sciascia's body. #gerlandosciascia #georgefromcanada #joemassino #salvitale #bonannofamily #bonannos #bonannocrimefamily #vitorizzuto #montrealfamily #rizzutofamily #6thfamily #pattydefilippo #pattyfromthebronx #genegotti #heroin #cattolica #cattolicaeraclea #mafia #ny #straightenedout #truecrime #badblood #organizedcrime #montreal #mafia #5families (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp73NBJrtlH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Benjamin “lefty” Ruggiero (also known as “lefty 2 guns”) was an American mobster in the Bonanno crime family. He is well known for his friendship and mentorship of FBI undercover agent Joseph D. Pistone. When Pistone's operation was ended on July 26, 1981, the FBI intercepted and arrested Ruggiero on August 29, 1981. In November 1982, Ruggiero was sentenced to 15 years in prison for racketeering conspiracy; he was released in April 1993 before his death from cancer. He was famously portrayed by Al Pacino in the film Donnie Brasco. Ruggiero relished life as a mobster. In front of Pistone, he once explained: "As a wiseguy you can lie, you can cheat, you can steal, you can finagle, you can cause a ruckus...you can do anything and nobody can say a word about it. Who wouldn't want to be a wiseguy?" Ruggiero was the epitome of a wiseguy and had the respect of other mobsters. He had a reputation as a killer but on a daily basis was not prone to violence. Ruggiero had never served time in prison; he had been arrested many times, but never jailed. Ruggiero earned his nickname "Lefty" from tossing dice left-handed while playing craps. He got the nickname "Two Guns" because when he went out on a hit, he liked to use two guns. In April 1993, suffering from lung and testicular cancer, Ruggiero was released from prison after serving almost 11 years. He died on November 24, 1994. Ruggiero's granddaughter Ramona Rizzo appeared on the TV show Mob Wives on VH-1. #leftyruggiero #benjaminruggiero #donniebrasco #alpacino #johnnydepp #ramonarizzo #vh1 #mobwives #bonnanofamily #carminegalante #joepistone #fbi #undercover #mafia #organizedcrime #bonnanocrimefamily #5families #newyork #3caposmurder #sonnyred #sonnyblack #straightenedout #truecrime (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp3TDaEP0Ql/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this date in Mafia History: March 13th, 2019 Gambino Boss Frank Cali slain in front of his own house! Cali died at Staten Island University Hospital on March 13, 2019, at the age of 53, after being shot at about 9:20 p.m. in front of his home on Hilltop Terrace in the Todt Hill area. He was buried six days later at Moravian Cemetery in New Dorp, Staten Island. This was the first murder of a New York crime boss since the 1985 assassination of Paul Castellano, who was also boss of the Gambino family. Francesco Paolo Augusto "Frank" Cali. (March 26, 1965 – March 13, 2019), also known as "Franky Boy", was an American mobster and the eventual acting boss of the Gambino crime family. Law enforcement considered Cali to have been the Gambinos' "ambassador to Sicilian mobsters" and had linked him to the Inzerillo Mafia family from Palermo. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Lipton, he was "seen as a man of influence and power by organized crime members in Italy" According to the Italian Polizia di Stato (State Police), Cali was also a member of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra. He was the contact for Sicilian mafiosi who traveled to New York to meet him, do business, and update him on Sicilian affairs. "He's our friend and he is everything over there", confided Sicilian mobster Gianni Nicchi to his boss Antonio Rotolo, after a trip in 2003. #frankcali #gambinofamily #inzerillo #inzerillocrimefamily #gambinofamily #newyork #anthonycomello #todthill #paulcastellano #statenisland #palermo #sicily #sicilia #mafia #organizedcrime #straightenedout #johngambino #johngotti #jackiedamico #made #boss (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpuOb7fOl2I/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Salvatore Riina aka “Toto” was an Italian mobster and chief of the Sicilian Mafia, known for a ruthless murder campaign that reached a peak in the early 1990s with the assassinations of Antimafia Commission prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, resulting in widespread public outcry and a major crackdown by the authorities. Nicknamed “the Beast” because of his cruelty, Riina was an unrepentant criminal who not only assassinated his criminal rivals on an unprecedented scale in the 1980s and 90s, but also targeted the prosecutors, journalists, and judges who sought to stand in his way. Riina died on 17 November 2017, one day after his 87th birthday, while in a medically induced coma after two operations in the prison unit of the Maggiore Hospital in Parma. The specific cause of death was not revealed. At the time of his death, he was still considered to be the head of the Cosa Nostra according to a magistrate. Riina was refused a public funeral by the church and Archbishop Michele Pennisi; he was privately buried in his hometown of Corleone. #totoriina #salvatoreriina #giovannifalcone #parma #corleonesi #corleon #mafia #italy #sicily #sicillian #cosanostra #boss #bossofbosses #omerta #organizedcrime #straightenedout (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpQcWouverw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Harry Joseph Bowman (July 17, 1949 – March 3, 2019), nicknamed "Taco", was an American outlaw biker and gangster who served as the international president of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club between 1984 and 1999. During his tenure as president, the club had chapters in more than 30 cities in the United States and some 20 chapters in at least four other countries. Considered one the most notorious motorcycle gang leaders in U.S. history, Bowman escalated a biker war between the Outlaws and the Hells Angels in the 1990s. He became the 453rd fugitive listed on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list after he was indicted on federal racketeering and murder charges in August 1997. After 18 months as a fugitive, Bowman was apprehended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) near Detroit in June 1999. He was convicted in Tampa, Florida, in 2001 of the murders of rival gang members, firebombings, racketeering, conspiracy and various drug and firearm offenses. Bowman was sentenced to serve two life prison sentences plus 83 years. Bowman died from cancer at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, North Carolina on March 3, 2019, at the age of 69. An impromptu memorial service for Bowman at his former Detroit chapter compound the following day drew approximately 5,000 people. He was laid to rest at Bear Creek Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio on March 16, 2019. Bowman had chosen to be buried at Bear Creek as it was the final resting place of many of his Outlaws "brothers" Around 2,500 people, including Outlaws members from dozens of U.S. states and internationally, as well as crime figures from across the country, attended Bowman's funeral service at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds. #tacobowman #harrytacobowman #outlawsmc #outlaws #detroitpartnership #detroitmafia #1%er #onepercenter #biker #bikerlife #offo #mafia #organizedcrime #mc #harleydavidson #straightenedout #detroit #daytonabeach #daytonabikeweek #georgechristie https://www.instagram.com/p/CpOgVbZP7wk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Notorious Canadian Hells Angels boss Ma Boucher has reportedly died at 69. Maurice Boucher was a Canadian murderer, reputed drug trafficker, and outlaw biker—the former President of the Hells Angels' Montreal chapter. Boucher led Montreal's Hells Angels against the rival Rock Machine biker gang during the Quebec Biker war of 1994 through 2002 in Quebec, Canada. In 2002, Boucher was convicted of ordering the murders of two Quebec prison officers in an effort to destabilize the Quebec Justice system. He served three life sentences at Canada’s only supermax prison prison in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines. Authorities transferred in June 2022 to the nearby Archambault Institution under conditions of secrecy so he could receive palliative care following the metastasis of his throat cancer. #maboucher #mauriceboucher #hellsangels #ha #🔴⚪️ #1%er #rockmachine #montreal #bonannofamily #vitorizzuto #rizzutofamily #badblood #organizedcrime #outlawbiker #straightenedout (at Scottsdale, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf2NvbQvsDB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Aniello John "Neil" Dellacroce (March 15, 1914 – December 2, 1985), was an American mobster and underboss of the Gambino crime family. He rose to the position of underboss when Carlo Gambino moved Joseph Biondo aside. Dellacroce was a mentor to future Gambino boss John Gotti. As a teenager, Dellacroce became a butcher's assistant, but work was scarce and he took to crime. He was jailed once for petty theft. Dellacroce sometimes walked around Manhattan dressed as a priest and called himself "Father O'Neil" to confuse both the police and rival mobsters. Dellacroce allegedly committed a murder dressed as a priest. He also allegedly used a body double for some public events. On October 15, 1976, Carlo Gambino died at home of natural causes. Against expectations, he had appointed Paul Castellano to succeed him over his underboss Dellacroce. Gambino appeared to believe that his crime family would benefit from Castellano's focus on white collar businesses.Dellacroce, at the time, was imprisoned for tax evasion and was unable to contest Castellano's succession. Castellano's succession was confirmed at a meeting on November 24, with Dellacroce present. Castellano arranged for Dellacroce to remain as underboss while directly running traditional Cosa Nostra activities such as extortion, robbery, and loansharking. While Dellacroce accepted Castellano's succession, the deal effectively split the Gambino family into two rival factions. On December 2, 1985, Dellacroce died of cancer at age 71. #mrneil #aniellodellacroce #gambinofamily #gambinocrimefamily #thegambinos #underboss #carlogambino #albertanastasia #madhatter #murderinc #bergincrew #ozonepark #paulcastellano #johngotti #gotti #quackquackruggiero #mafia #italian #italianmafia #newyork #nypd #manganofamily #commission #made #gangster (at Arrowhead Ranch, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfIt6T2r5KT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Expanding on my earlier post… Who is currently in control of the commission? Barney Bellomo is the clear powerhouse in the US as far as organized crime, however he keeps an extremely low profile and relays all orders through his #2 in command Michael Ragusa. Michael Ragusa, a longtime confidant of boss Liborio (Barney) Bellomo, who has built an extremely low profile over the years (we found no photos of him) -- is the Genovese family's new street boss, Straightened Out has learned. Hailing from Pleasantville, Ragusa was promoted recently (though the formal appointment may have been largely ceremonial). Ragusa was already a soldier when he was nabbed along with several powerful members of the Genovese family in the big 2002 bust involving the Mafia's infiltration of the International Longshoreman's Association. Bellomo is official boss of the crime family founded circa 1931 by Charles (Lucky) Luciano himself. As one law enforcement source said of Bellomo: He's "the reason why people from Brooklyn and the Bronx have been showing up in lower Manhattan in the last few years." As per sources, Ragusa's elevation was prompted by and followed the death of venerable, longtime Lower East Side wiseguy Peter (Petey Red) DiChiara on March 2, 2018, from complications of diabetes. DiChiara had been a powerful Knickerbocker Village capo who reportedly spent his last years serving as street boss and consigliere for Bellomo. #michaelragusa #barneybellomo #genovesefamily #genovesecrimefamily #mafia #mafiacommission #thecommission #commission #organizedcrime #fbi #oc #gangster #2022 #newyork #ny #nypd #mafiahistory #mafianews #cosanostra #lacosanostra #italy #italian #guido (at Arrowhead Ranch, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ccb_JByL0Nf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Yes it does. We know this because in 2017 Domenico Violi of the Luppino crime family in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada was heard to have been named underboss of the Buffalo crime family on wiretaps; this revealed the activity of The Commission as Violi's promotion was so unusual, being the first Canadian to hold the second-highest position in the American Mafia, that Buffalo crime family boss Joseph Todaro Jr. stated he consulted with The Commission for permission to promote him as Buffalo's new underboss. According to Joseph Massino, former boss of the Bonanno family, the last known Commission meeting held with all the bosses was in November 1985, just before the death of Paul Castellano that December. However, a Commission meeting in 1988 was led by John Gotti and attended by Vincent Gigante and new Lucchese boss Victor Amuso, the first Commission meeting since the Mafia Commission Trial. According to Salvatore Vitale, a Commission meeting was held in early 2000 to restore the rule requiring both parents to be of Italian descent in order to become a made man. The Commission is still reported to exist, though its current membership is composed of only the bosses of the Five Families and the Chicago Outfit. #mafia #commission #mafiacommission #fivefamilies #5families #rulingparty #straightenedout #made #boss #bosses #gambino #geneovese #lucchese #colombo #bonnano #crimefamily #gambinocrimefamily #genovesecrimefamily #lucchesecrimefamily #colombocrimefamily #bonnanocrimefamily #chicago #theoutfit #organizedcrime (at Arrowhead Ranch, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcaCdK_rF5b/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this date in Mafia History: April 13th, 1996 James “Jimmy the gent” Burke passed away in federal prison. Famously portrayed by Robert Deniro in Goodfellas, the real Jimmy the Gent was quite the character. James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke was one of the most notorious Irish-American gangsters of all time, a violent, ruthless criminal responsible for countless murders and one of the largest cash robberies in American history. Ironically Burke was never a member of the Mafia, but did spend most of his career working closely with made mafia men and the associates of two of the New York Crime Families. Born James Conway on July 5, 1931, in New York, he was destined for a life of crime. Between the ages of 16 and 22, he was behind bars for all but 86 days. When Burke was 18, in 1949 he was sentenced to 5 years in prison, whilst in prison, he had quite the tough guy reputation, he performed murders from behind bars due to his connections with the Italian mob, and the fact that he kept his mouth shut about his partners earned him points with the Mafia. Burke ran an informal mob crew whose members included the notorious Henry Hill, they based themselves at a bar owned by Burke called Robert’s Lounge, it was a supposed burial site and the place that Burke and his crew dreamed up their most fearless plans, including the most reckless of plans involving Burke and Hill, when they beat up a Florida man and were sentenced to 10 years in prison. Upon there release after six years they both returned to organized crime, and soon after came the Lufthansa Heist. Under Burke’s planning and recruitment, a team of mob associates robbed the Lufthansa cargo hold at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens. They got away with almost $6 million in cash and jewelry, the largest robbery of its kind at the time. Henry Hill a trafficker who had become addicted to drugs was arrested, and faced decades in prison (not to mention Mafia bosses who wanted him dead for dealing the drugs). Hill flipped and ratted out his bosses, his mentors, his friends, and also Jimmy Burke. #jimmyburke #jimmythegent #henryhill #goodfellas #robertdeniro #lucchesefamily #mafia #gangster (at Arrowhead Ranch, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcTU9sYP56a/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On this day in 1935 one of the most talked about and controversial hitmen was born in New Jersey. His name was Richard Kuklinski, better known as The Iceman. Kuklinski was said to have murdered over 200 people, committing his first murder at the age of 14. He got the nickname Iceman because he would freeze victims to obscure the time that they were killed. He died in prison, in 2006. Kuklinski came to the attention of law enforcement when an investigation into his burglary gang linked him to several murders. An eighteen-month long undercover operation led to his arrest in December 1986. In 1988, he was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of killing two members of his burglary gang and two other associates. In 2003, he received an additional 30-year sentence after confessing to the murder of a mob-connected police officer. After his murder convictions, Kuklinski gave interviews to writers, prosecutors, criminologists, and psychiatrists. He claimed to have murdered anywhere from 100 to 200 men, often in gruesome fashion. Most of these additional murders have not been corroborated. He also alleged that he worked as a hitman for the Mafia, and that he was a participant in several famous Mafia killings, including the disappearance and presumed murder of Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa. Law enforcement and organized crime experts have expressed skepticism about Kuklinski's supposed Mafia ties. He was the subject of three HBO documentaries aired in 1992, 2001 and 2003; several biographies, and a 2012 feature film The Iceman, starring Michael Shannon and Winona Ryder. #richardkuklinski #theiceman #hbo #iceman #hitman #contractkiller #assassin #newjersey #nj #gambinofamily #roydemeo #demeocrew #geminilounge #mafia #michaelshannon #winonaryder #trenton #bigrich #sammygravano #documentary #hbodocumentaryfilms #serialkiller #pornographer #mrsoftee #truecrime #straightenedout #thisdateinhistory (at Arrowhead Ranch, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcNwW1Prj1N/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
