back door was inspired by 2pm’s my house and no one can convince me otherwise 

is it just me or god’s menu (and the album as a whole) feels like it could be an answer to the “i am:” series and the back door at the end of the mv could be a response to the “miroh/yellow wood/levanter” series?

the album feels like a reflection of god’s menu’s lyrics, it doesn’t have a consistent emotionally-tied lyrical theme like their previous albums and the songs don’t have any apparent tie between them sound-wise either.  if there’s something that ties them together, it’s that they’re all super unique - they could almost all be sorted into different genres.  i mean lyrically we go from “god’s menu” and “easy” where it’s borderline bragging to “another day” and “phobia” where it’s about being just like everyone else and even having major insecurities.  this might be reading too much into it, but “i am who” could even be tied to the feeling of songs like “god’s menu” and “easy,” (and maybe even TOP), with a reflection of the public persona they had to show especially way back when IAW came out, while “i am not” could be tied to “another day” and “phobia” (also SLUMP), the parts of themselves that they had to deny as idols.  we could even tie “i am you” to love songs like “airplane” and songs that mention going forward with another person like “pacemaker,” even “mixtape: on track.”

it’s like saying “i am all of these things, all of these feelings and identities at once, and that doesn’t invalidate me, it’s what makes me who i am and i am proud of that.”

my only evidence for this is 2 out of the 3 album titles buuuut: to me the miroh/yellow wood/levanter series asked “where” rather than “who,” and they didn’t end up liking any of the paths that were offered to them, so they found an alternative exit here - the back door.  if we’re thinking themes and lyrical-ties, this can be a reflection of where they want their music to go - they didn’t ever want to be boxed into a mainstream sound, so they started making their own music and that gave them a way out.  it’s almost like the back door could be the merging of mainstream and their own style, like the merging of the two moons...

the red of the sign also reminds me of the red slips and flowers from district 9.  if that’s actually a connection that red could symbolize escape.  in the highligh reel they show the red objects from d9 right after chan says “we decided to get out of here and find our true selves.”  now that i think about it, miroh means maze-- what do you do in a maze?  you try to escape.  miroh is probably their most red mv.

throughout the whole music video we see them at a bunch of different career sites, which to me further indicates a tie to the “i am” series, because what shouts “i am” more than a career path?  “what do you want to be when you grow up?” is such a restricting question that we hear so early in our lives, and it often implies that we can only ultimately have one answer, even though that’s not true.  this is something they’ve been exploring since the very beginning, you see it especially in the “I am NOT” trailer (they didn’t include the specific part i’m talking about in the highlight reel for a very specific reason but aaaanyway)

i mean.  can we talk about how they go from “go live” where they all rap to “phobia” where they all sing???  that feels really intentional to me.  we know they can do both but this feels like they’re declaring it.  i even think the “ne son-nim” is a commentary on this contrast.  maybe i’m misreading this, but there’s something a little bit sarcastic about changbin’s version to me?  i don’t know, maybe not sarcastic, but still... a very different in tone than hyunjin’s in a big way.  just another example of that contrast and completely owning it!

anyway.  what if the two versions of themselves represent two different perspectives?  one being “i am not” and one being “i am who?”  and since they’re version of themselves, they’re both “i am you”

So here’s my understanding of it (which is really just my interpretation and not necessarily accurate).

They started as teenagers stuck in a system that told them they were different (everyone’s unique), yet they were all the same, a system that pushed all of them to conform to the same standards, there was a glitch which gave them some self awareness and the broke out.

Eventually they entered the real world (the city, which to me represented us teens entering that in between of adulthood and childhood and meeting the “real world”) and they thought that things might change, but nothing did, everything was still confusing, the real world was hardly any different than the district.

So they left the city, deciding to take a different path (the road not taken). Here they occasionally made bad choices which came with consequences (not unlike what the regrets we might have when trying to find ourselves), but they helped each other with their fears, relied on each other, and kept trying find their way. The moons represented different roads, which to me felt like they were saying it represents your different choices and your inner conflict when you don’t know your real self and you’re at odds with yourself.

Finally they arrived at the door, and they felt the wind blow (levanter meaning wind), and then they stopped to think about what the key they had put so much faith in meant. They assumed that a key would help them go where they should and be who they should be (which to me felt like when you follow a path thinking that this will tell me what I am), but they realized that the key wasn’t the answer, it had nothing to do with the key they had held so tightly, believing it could help (like Chan said in the Levanter intro video, it’s like when Po’s dad said the secret ingredient is yourself) and so they let it go, and this act of not forcing themselves to be one thing or the other, and to let themselves grow is what finally reconciled the moons (ending the internal conflict) and when the moons reconciled, it brought back their real selves, their whole selves, where they aren’t running after a false ideal, and aren’t trying to conform to anything, but are just letting themselves be themselves.

Hello friends! I just wanted to give everyone a quick reminder that our gc is public!  I know it’s a very comfortable space for many of us (myself included) on many fronts, and that is beautiful. However, I do think it’s important to remember our boundaries. This includes but is not limited to sharing information about your location and contact information, as well as those of others.  If you know any personal info about anyone, such as someone’s real name or birth date, please do not share it without explicitly asking them first.  Many of us have shared information about our location at this point - which is fine, to a degree, but please be careful about specifics (i.e. “I’m from [country/state]” is one thing, but “I’m from [town name]” is another).

As much as we feel like a family, most of us are still strangers. And for those of us who aren’t - this gc is never the place to share personal info, please don’t forget it is a public space.  

I do believe that our bonds with one another are in most cases genuine friendship. Just remember that all internet friendships start out anonymous by nature, so be sure to approach any attempts at deepening those friendships with caution.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and Cook said something recently kind of made me realize it’s something we should all probably acknowledge up front. I think the whole family idea is great fun, but I can understand Cookie’s discomfort as it certainly could lead to misunderstandings. I’m not trying to scare anyone away, and I know most of you know all of this already, but I figured a reminder can’t hurt!

The greatest thing one can do, is forgive themselves for the mistakes they have made. Coincidentally, it is also one of the hardest things to do, as memories have a way of staying when you want them to dissappear. There are times in your life where you are made to chose between two wrong choices, that is not your fault. There are times in your life where the solution is never visible to you till after everything is over, that is not your fault. It's not your job to know everything all the time, you have to take everything that comes and create your own answer, make your own decision, find out the difference between illusions and what is real. Life was made to trick you until you were aware of how to survive on your own. It builds you up while tearing you away, but that does not mean you are to fall. Forgive yourself for it is not your fault that life is unfair, you deserve a chance to see the answer, to see what it is you have been looking for for so long. Little by little, forgive yourself.

as someone who’s not big on romance, after reading its lyrics, 바보라도 알아 feels like a song about when your close friend stops spending time with you in favor of prioritizing a romantic relationship.  that’s probably not how it’s meant to be interpreted... unless...?

i hope people understand that we still don’t actually know anything about what happened.  nothing about what chan said is encouraging anyone to spread hate or even be angry or upset.  everyone - idols included - should be allowed to feel whatever emotion they’re feeling to its full extent, without it having astronomical consequences.  it’s just that idols aren’t always allowed to express that.  chan’s room is a safe space for stays to voice their concerns - it would be lovely if we could keep it a safe space for chan to share his burdens as well.

that does not mean we have to be angry or upset with woojin.  to support someone and their feelings, you do not need to mindlessly adopt their thoughts and emotions as your own.  if chan never forgives woojin, then so be it.  their personal relationship with one another is one that fans don’t need to understand.  it doesn’t mean anyone did anything wrong.  people see things differently.

if someone made a promise to stay with you forever, and then they chose to leave you, would you be upset?  what if that decision not only impacted you emotionally but also professionally?

if you thought you wanted one thing but changed your mind after experiencing it, and you tried your best to follow through with it regardless but it still wasn’t fulfilling in the way you desired, would you change your path?  what if continuing that one thing prevented you from following your real dream?

i’m not saying i know what happened any more than anyone else did.  i’m just saying there are two sides to every story, and we might now know how one side feels, but we still don’t have facts.

Okay yall so I got an uncle in Italy and this is the update he has given me. He says he literally feels like he's in some horror movie because they've taken out their military now and they were carrying trucks full of dead bodies, so much so that they cannot handle putting them somewhere rn and the death toll has passed China. He told us that they're about to lock down everything to the point where you will not be allowed to leave at ALL. He also warned us because we are telling him what's happening here that we are reacting exactly the same as Italy was when it first started and now they're where they are at. Also, Italy was in a better spot than the US because compared to how many people there are that have way more hospitals. When you go out BE CAREFUL, do not touch things you don't need to, wear gloves and masks, don't go out if you do not need to please, you may think it's nothing but that's how it starts. This is not a game yall like forreal. My uncle is someone who jokes around all the time and today he was very very serious. Don't be scared but be cautious.

ngl i haven’t listened to the new versions of skz’s songs yet because ouch my heart but also curiosity will probably get the best of me soon so...

considering making a post about how they’ve changed.  because no matter what, they’ve put a lot of work and effort into this and i think as sad as i’ll be to listen to the 8 member versions, i’m going to be proud of what they’ve created.  woojin’s vocals will always be extremely missed, of course, it’s just that i love all of their voices.  also, i kinda found myself wanting someone to do that so i don’t have to listen to them and discover the shock of the changes for myself by going in unprepared, but i can take one for the team if i must :’D

It seems like the entire world is in a panic right now so here's a reminder to take a deep breath, relax your muscles, and clear your mind of all worries. You're going to be okay, you've prepared enough, don't let the news scare you. Just take caution when you go out and you'll be okay. Our goal is to not only protect ourselves, but those around us that may not be as healthy. Do what you can for those less able, lend a hand or an ear, this is the time when we have to really come together. We will make it through this hard time, and we will do so together.
