SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE Part 2, Chapter 2: Toadsworth’s Awakening
AT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM MEMORIAL SPRINGS…
Peach and Toadsworth listen to the sound of the steam erupting from the castle springs and the airship just above them. It is a surprise to them that the steam hasn’t stopped ever since the Battle at Mushroom Kingdom a few days ago. Peach is still very fragile over Mario’s passing. For years they have been trying to stop Bowser from tormenting them. If Peach knew what it would take, she would’ve settled for the torment.
“They look nice,” Peach says referring to the gravestones the toads made for Mario, Bowser, and Larry. Despite their indifferent relationship with Bowser, Peach thought it was respectful to still make a gravestone for him. Both of them had been such an integral part to her life. Peach can admit she wouldn’t be the same without them. She certainly isn’t grateful for the recent events, but Peach has learned a lot. She doesn’t know exactly how she is going to rule the Mushroom Kingdom now that there are approximately twenty people still from there. However, there is one big mystery still left to be solved: how did the world end up like this?
“Queen Peach, I must say I am impressed by your courage,” Toadsworth begins. “Mario has been a huge part of our lives,” Peach begins to cry again. “It isn’t easy…” Toadsworth holds her hand while they stare at the gravestones. The steam continues to rise into the air. They hear Bowser Jr., Iggy, and the thump of Morton coming from the airship.
Junior looks at the battle that he wasn’t a part of. He looks at the ruins in disgust. He stares at the destruction and scowls at the steam. He approaches Peach and Toadsworth. Junior, Iggy, and Morton look at the gravestones. Junior’s back is to the others. Toadsworth is terrified.
“This whole time, I’ve been trying to save the Koopa legacy,” Junior starts. “And here it is right in front of me.”
“That’s not true,” Toadsworth sighs.
“What do you know?” Iggy points a finger at Toadsworth, who refuses to show any spark of fear.
“I know,” Toadsworth struggles to get the words out. “That this is a good a time as any to start new. Learn from what your father did but rule with respect for him.”
Junior got the news from King Boo. One of his spies that roamed around Bowser reported back to him. All Junior can think about was how he didn’t even witness it. He was on the other side of the Wedding Lake trying to protect whatever kingdom they had left. Junior faces Peach who he sees has tears in her eyes. Junior hugs Peach.
“It seems as though everyone here was wrapped up in an impossible situation,” Toadsworth claims. “Standing by a war you couldn’t do anything in. Mario and Bowser were opposing forces and nothing could get in the way of their battles.”
“J-Junior,” Peach wipes tears from her eyes. “They were impossible to handle,” she laughs and the rest laugh with her.
“Papa was stubborn.” Junior claims.
“But now that their battle is finished, we need to focus on what we were doing while they were fighting each other; protecting our kingdoms.”
“What’s left of the Mushroom Kingdom?” Junior asks.
“Not much,” Peach laughs. “But I will keep fighting for my kingdom, if you do the same, and if we walk away from this as friends.”
“Friends,” Junior agrees. They wrap their arms around each other and embrace each other for a moment. They burn away all of their past vices and accept this new foot forward. Soon enough, Iggy, Toadsworth, and even tough Morton are crying with them. They all let go of their pain together.
“HEY!” a shout is heard from the distance. Everyone looks over to the top of the parapet. Standing there soaking wet is Ludwig and Roy. The two of them have been lost in the Wedding Lake for the past couple of days. They finally made it up the rampart to catch their siblings. Bowser Jr. smiles.
“Go back to your family,” Peach says. Junior smiles back at her. Although these two have been on opposing sides in the past. The grief of losing a loved one brought them closer in the end. Peach is glad she is able to close things off with Junior and he feels the same. This peace in the end will make the grieving process easier for the both of them.
Peach and Toadsworth watch as the airship leaves the Mushroom Kingdom Memorial Springs. Toadsworth turns to Peach, proud of her in every sense, and proud to serve her. Although he never wished this on her, he thinks Mario’s death will turn her into a great leader. They ready the lumas into star launchers. They jump in and make their way to the Space Observatory.
AT THE SPACE OBSERVATORY…
Peach and Toadsworth have returned. They visit Rosalina and Luigi in her office. They are looking at the map of their new world. Peach puts a hand on Luigi’s back to comfort him. They see The Mushroom Kingdom Memorial Springs and just north of it the Kongo Jungle. To the east of the jungle is Sarasaland. But Luigi points to a peninsular across from the west side of the Kongo Jungle. The peninsula is attached to a different continent.
“It looks like Yoshi was right, something is different with the island,” Rosalina states.
“Queen,” Toadsworth looks at Peach. “You know what you have to do.”
“Let’s go help our friend Yoshi,” Peach claims. “It’s what Mario would’ve wanted.”

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE Part 2, Chapter 1: Toon Link’s Awakening
ON THE WEDDING LAKE…
Toon Link and the King of Red Lions can see the steam erupting from the Memorial Springs off in the distance. However, their main priority is the tiny little island they just came across. On the island is a large pink sea shell, large enough for Toon Link to walk through.
“This must be one of the fairy islands Beetle was telling me about,” Toon Link wonders.
“I think so, I can feel the energy shiver into my sails!” King of Red Lions agrees. Toon Link gets off his boat and enters the shell. Suddenly, the sand underneath him moves, he is getting pulled in! Toon Link holds his breath! He can’t breathe in the sand. His right foot dangles. Dangles!? How could that be? His left foot dangles too! Now his whole body is slowly floating to a underground cave inside the island.
Inside is a small pool that glows sky blue. Toon Link walks over to the pool and touches it. Quickly, the pool turns a pastel pink color and something begins to crawl out of the center of the pool. Toon Link steps back. A four armed, pink fairy with no legs floats out of the water.
“Hello young hero, I am The Last Fairy,” she introduces.
“H-hi,” Toon Link stutters.
“Are you lost?” The Last Fairy asks.
“Yes, the whole world has turned upside down. I can’t find my way home. My map is all wrong!” Toon Link explains.
“It seems as though the world has turned upside down. I have lost all contacts with my sisters.”
“What happened?” Toon Link protests.
“I am afraid I do not know young hero. But I know someone who does. To the east the Hyrule Temple lays floating above the water. Find it, I am sure that the history inside the walls of the castle will help you,” The Last Fairy instructs.
“Thank you,” Toon Link responds.
“But before you go, take this!’ The Last Fairy hands Toon Link a golden compass. “This will help guide you in your journey. It points in the direction of the great royal family. It will lead you to the Hyrule castle.”
“The one that floats above the sea?”
“Exactly. There you will find the true meaning of The Hero.”
“Thank you,” Toon Link thanks again. Suddenly, he is floating again! The sand has disappeared and he is now inside the giant shell. He walks out and sees the King of Red Lions waiting for him.
“Where are we off too?” King of Red Lions asks.
Toon Link looks at the compass, it is pointing east. “East!” Toon Link says. He looks up and sees a giant airship near the parapet in the distance. For now he needs to focus on reaching the Hyrule Castle. The hero hops aboard the King of Red Lions and with a flick of the wind waker they are off!
AT THE HYRULE CASTLE…
Toon Link is under the shadow of the huge Hyrule Castle. The King of Red Lions guides him, almost in a trance. They navigate through the long columns of the floating castle on the Wedding Lake. Such a grad temple seems out of place here. Almost as if it was placed here for no reason. Toon Link had visited this place before and it has never been so mysterious. This time through the temple was different. Toon Link knew how to navigate through the passages and go to the spot where he could talk to the king.
Toon Link goes to the lower chamber where he found the master sword. Toon Link looks at the stain glass windows that depict the hero’s tale. The hero in green will be born to face the evils the world faces. With the power of the triforce he will be able to defeat the evil dark lord and restore peace in Hyrule.
“Ah, long time no see, hero of time!” The King, in his human form, appears out of nowhere. “What do you see here, Link?”
“It’s the hero’s story…my story!” Toon Link explains.
“Ahh, but it is not your story my boy, it is the story.”
“What do you mean, King?”
“Think about it!” The King sat in silence while he watched Toon Link peer at the story. Outside he could see the waves of the ocean manipulate the colors on the window.
“I don’t matter,” Toon Link states.
“Well of course you matter! You’re the Hero!” the King boasts.
“But if this is the story, then I, Link, don’t matter. Because someone else will be in my place.”
“Precisely,” The King smiles. “It is a tale as old as time. Good versus evil. One prevails for a moment. Then the other finds a way to slip into power again.”
“If I don’t matter, but the story does, then why am I here?” Toon Link ponders.
“Did you see the waves as we were riding them? And that airship? And that weird flying dinosaur we saw earlier?”
“Yes.”
“We are in a different world, a world where I believe this same story exists, and where the forces of good,” King Hyrule points to Toon Link. “And evil will face off in one final battle!”
“The final story…” Toon Link mumbles. “What happens to everyone else when the final battle is over with?”
“I’m sure many other stories will fill in the place of what was once there.”
“Hmm…” Toon Link is quiet for the first time since they entered the castle.
“Follow the golden compass, Link! Follow the story!”
Toon Link pulls out the compass. It is pointing straight towards the airship. Whatever story, Toon Link is following it wants him to make friends with them.

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE Part 1, Chapter 7: Battle at the Mushroom Kingdom
AT SARASALAND…
A horde of lumas come down from the sky. Maybe fifty of them gather around the waddle dee army in front of the Chai Castle in order to prepare for the Battle at Mushroom Kingdom, or whatever’s left of it. Most of the fighter waddle dees carry warp stars which will send them to the Mushroom Kingdom. The bandana waddle dees will be launched through the sky by the lumas. They sharpen their spears and are ready for battle. The civilians look at the gigantic army and can’t help but be worried. Daisy comes out and speaks to the open forum.
“Hi,” Daisy greets the growing crowd of Sarasaland natives. “I’m sure you’re all wondering, why is there a giant army in the middle of the courtyard? Well…we are going to war.” The crowd gasps and whispers to themselves. “Don’t worry! It’s only King Dedede and his army fighting. Along with the Mario brothers and their friends. None of you have to participate.” The crowd cheers. Daisy can’t help but laugh to herself. “Our friends in the Mushroom Kingdom were overthrown by Bowser.” There are some groans from the audience. “I know right! So King Dedede and I decided to help them recover what they lost.” The doors of the Chai Castle open. “And here they are!”
Mario, Luigi, King Dedede, and Donkey Kong come out. Followed behind them are Peach, Captain Toad, and Toadette. The crowd cheers for the warriors. King Dedede steps to the front of the waddle dee army to address the crowd.
“Thank you! Thank you for the encouragement!” King Dedede boasts. “I’ll be excited to hear that when I come back.” He claims. “I think it’s important to maintain close relationships with your neighbors…” DK scoffs. “And helping the Mario brothers in their fight for their land with be the first step in maintaining a close relationship.” The crowd cheers for Dedede. “From this day on, you will treat them with the same respect that you do to me.” The crowd now cheers for the Mario brothers and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom natives.
Mario can’t help but feel exhilarated. He is ready to get back to his home. Luigi is terrified. He has never fought in a war before! What will he do? How will he defend himself? Luigi will have to figure it out in the moment. Because of this Luigi has prepared himself. He wears a heavy metal helmet, a breast plate, and long black boots. DK is indifferent about fighting in this war. But he convinced himself to go along because of Peach.
King Dedede gets everyone in their positions. He sits on a warp star, the other fighter waddle dees follow him. The lumas turn into super star launchers. Suddenly, King Dedede blasts himself into the air. The fighter waddle dees follow and the bandana waddle dees plunge into the air. Peach, Daisy, and the toads watch as Luigi and Donkey Kong blast into the sky. Mario waits and looks at Peach, she runs up to kiss him. Mario lets her go and blasts through the sky. The queens watch as Mario and the rest of the army get smaller and smaller in the sky until they disappear completely.
IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
Yoshi, Diddy, and Dixie Kong have been making good use of their time since the others have been gone. Every day they try to race each other up different trees. Today is the deadly fuzzy vine tree. If you touch the fuzzy vines then you will get a gross allergic reaction. Diddy Kong has won the last few races because he has been able to maneuver the trees with his climbing skills. Yoshi feels determined that he will win this time, the vines are everywhere and may prove to be difficult for Diddy.
The three start climbing up the fuzzy vine tree. Diddy and Dixie dodge the gross looking vines and propel themselves higher into the tree. Yoshi is able to make large jumps up the tree due to his great jumping ability. Dixie falls! She tried to avoid the poisonous vines. She clutches onto the bark of the tree that is breaking underneath her fingers and toes. Dixie finds a solid spot in the bark and hoists herself back up. Yoshi continues to jump across different branches. Yoshi can see sunlight under the canopy of trees and…he makes it to the top! He beat Diddy Kong and Dixie!
Shortly after Diddy and Dixie join him on top of the fuzzy vine tree canopy. They see something zoom past them in the sky. It looked like Donkey Kong! They cheer on their dad and the Mario brothers as they see them hurling through the sky. After a moment, they look at each other. DK and the others must be headed to the Mushroom Kingdom. Yoshi, Diddy, and Dixie now race across the canopy to meet them at Peach’s Castle.
AT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM…
Bowser is sitting on his throne, throwing different obstacles for Lemmy to jump over. He throws a chain chomp at Lemmy, which the little koopa turns into a bouncy ball. Next Bowser spurts a fire ball at Lemmy who turns it into an even bigger fire ball. Bowser inhales deeply and lets out a cloud of flames. Lemmy turns the hot air into confetti. Bowser can’t help but be amused by the talents of his youngest son!
On the top of the castle, Roy and Larry are lounging around. Roy is trying to get a tan while Larry is doing whatever he can to annoy his brother. Larry will step in front of Roy to block his sun or spray Roy with lotion. Being stuck at the Mushroom Kingdom leaves the koopalings bored. Larry stops in his tracks; Roy gets his sun blocked, again!
“Larry quit blocking my…” Roy looks up at what Larry is mesmerized by. They see in the sky King Dedede and his army approaching the castle. “Take cover!” Some of the waddle dees smash into the roof with their warp stars. Their explosion make the roof break underneath them. Roy and Larry scurry to dodge the blast from the warp star and the crumbling roof.
Wendy and Ludwig watch on the ground floor just outside of the castle. Waddle dees are landing in the flooded mud in front of the castle. A large explosion happens right in front of them. It is King Dedede. Wendy and Ludwig scream and run into the castle. As they run into the castle to Bowser they have to dodge the falling pieces of the roof. The koopa troopas and goombas from Bowser’s Kingdom that came along with the clan are running towards the door to fight.
Luigi and Donkey Kong land on top of the rampart. Donkey Kong jumps down to join the action. Luigi gets ready to jump but…ooh, it is just too high! Mario lands next to his brother. Luigi looks at Mario terrified, his metal armor is shaking from fear. Mario smiles and then pushes Luigi off the rampart. Mario follows his brother with a triumphant scream!
Roy hugs one of the pillars on the roof. He climbs up it and then onto the flagpole. Larry can’t seem to dodge the impact from the warp stars. BAM! Larry gets hit. As he lays upside down the roof crumbles underneath him. Larry lands on the ground of the front hallway to the castle. Larry looks up and watches as more of the roof fall on top of him and crushes him.
In the great hall, Wendy and Ludwig enter screaming. “Bowser! King Bowser!”
“Is it the Mario brothers?” Bowser asks calmly.
“Yes! And they brought new friends with them too!” Wendy explains.
“Get ready kids,” Bowser. “This is the moment I’ve been waiting for.” Wendy readies her rings, Ludwig pulls out his magic wand, and Lemmy carries Roy’s cannonball gun. They prepare to defend their new home. “Fight for our home!”
Donkey Kong is joining the fighting waddle dees in knocking the koopa troopas out of the way. There is mud everywhere, making it hard for DK to get a good stance. Suddenly, a ring wizzes by, knocking some of the fighters out. Donkey Kong sees Wendy. The ring comes back to Wendy’s hand. “Give me a kiss, I dare you!” Wendy teases.
On the rooftop Roy is surrounded by bandana waddle dees. Roy rips off the flag pole from the roof and swings it at the waddle dees. His swings knock all of the minions off the roof. Suddenly, Lemmy appears. “Hey big bro, I thought you might be missing this!” Lemmy hands him the cannonball gun.
“Thanks Lemmy, now go help Wendy,” Roy instructs. Lemmy disappears. Roy watches as King Dedede flies on top of the roof. Roy readies the cannon. “Time to show ‘em who’s boss.” Roy shoots the canon, King Dedede destroys it with his hammer. The two stare at each other, they are evenly matched.
Luigi hides behind a group of bandana waddle dees. He watches as they poke at the goombas, hammer bros, and koopa troopas. There are moments when Luigi could’ve stepped in, but the waddle dees seem like they have it under control. Luigi hears something behind him…like a poof. He turns around and sees Ludwig smiling at him with those beady eyes! Luigi slaps Ludwig. Did he really just slap Ludwig?
Ludwig winds up his wand and shoots magic orbs at Luigi! The green machine jumps through the air to dodge the orbs and the waddle dees are caught in the line of fire. The waddle dees notice enemies are coming from both ends and scatter. Luigi runs through the muddy field as fast as he can and as far away from Ludwig as possible.
The doors to the great hall open, it’s Mario. Bowser has been waiting for him as everyone else is fighting. The floor is still flooded, but this time with warmer water that calms Mario. There is a rumble and some dust from the ceiling falls. Bowser gets angrier and steam erupts from his nostrils. Then the water around them starts to steam up. After Bowser has mustered all the energy he can he charges at Mario!
Bowser misses Mario and crashes into the side of the castle. Parts of the roof fall off onto the Koopa King. Bowser blasts a large flamethrower at Mario. The plumber hides behind a piece of roof that blocks the flames. The heat creeps around towards Mario, the roof is now burning! Mario slides with the water, giving him a little bit of protection on both ends, and runs from the flamethrower. Bowser stops. But the water around them is now boiling. Mario can’t stand to be in it anymore. A large part of the roof falls and nearly crushes Mario, he looks up and sees King Dedede and Roy fighting. Mario takes cover from the water on the roof.
On the roof Roy continues to fire cannons at King Dedede, who every time manages to knock them out of the way with his hammer. Roy feels discouraged by the cannonball gun and throws it off the roof. Roy tucks in his shell and charges at King Dedede who jumps out of the way. Roy pulls out his wand and starts to throw magic orbs at Dedede. Roy gets closer to Dedede, but the king smashes his hammer down and another chunk of the roof falls off, this time onto Bowser’s head. In fury, Bowser throws a flamethrower up at the roof. Dedede nearly misses the flames! Roy continues to make King Dedede dance with his magic orbs!
One of Wendy’s rings slices Donkey Kong in the back. He didn’t expect them to fly back so quickly. They must be infused with magic! Wendy sends more and more rings and DK, who flips over them. He twists around the ones that Wendy’s throws at him and ducks at them when they fly back to her. As DK is twisting her grabs hold of one of the rings that are flying back. DK reverts the motion of the ring and sends it towards Wendy! She gets hit by it in the face and then again when it comes back to DK! Wendy glares at DK as he holds her ring and smirks at her. Suddenly, Lemmy appears. Ugh, now Donkey Kong has to deal with the both of them!
Luigi is running. It’s all he knows how to do. He reaches the rampart and can’t go anywhere but up! However, he can’t climb the rampart with all of this gear on him. Luigi throws the metal helmet behind him and it hits Ludwig accidently! Luigi throws off the breast plate and again, it hits Ludwig! Luigi starts to climb, he hears Ludwig climbing after him. The magic orbs fly pass Luigi! One hits him in his butt and gives him a slight boost up the rampart. Luigi refuses to look down, he just keeps climbing. Eventually, he is at the top of the rampart. He looks down and instantly regrets it! He is dizzy and stumbles to the edge behind him.
“Woah now Luigi!” He mutters to himself. Luigi regains balance and starts running across the rampart with Ludwig chasing him. Luigi trips over himself and falls over the edge of the rampart. Ludwig now towers over Luigi.
On the roof, King Dedede is dodging Roy who keeps chasing after him in his shell. He sees Ludwig near the rampart. King Dedede dances around the rooftop to get Roy in the right direction. As Roy speeds to Dedede in his shell, the king winds up his hammer and slugs Roy across the field and straight into Ludwig. The two koopas fall into the Wedding Lake! Dedede watches Luigi climb back on top of the rampart. The king smirks, looks like they weren’t evenly matched after all!
Below, Bowser throws an angry flamethrower at Mario. The plumber just barely jumps over the flames and lands a punch on the Koopa King. Mario lands in the boiling water and gets to safety as quick as he can. Mario takes off his hat and clothes which have become increasingly warm, leaving him with only white polka dot underwear. Mario sees burns on some of his skin from the water.
Donkey Kong is dancing with Wendy and Lemmy’s attacks. He dodges the magical orbs and counters any of the rings that he can grab onto. Wendy and Lemmy are losing stamina but DK can keep dancing! Lemmy get hit one more time with the rings and falls in the mud. Wendy’s guard is down and DK sends another ring at her. Wendy is done with her rings and pulls out her magic wand. She starts throwing orbs at DK and creeps towards Lemmy to give him aid. Suddenly, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Yoshi appear. Diddy and Dixie shoot their banana guns and Yoshi throws his egg at the two koopas. The explosion knocks the two koopas out. DK is overjoyed to see his family! They Kongs hug and celebrate their victory.
King Dedede continues to break the roof on top of Bowser’s head. The Koopa King is furious and breathes out a gargantuan flamethrower in every direction possible. Bowser has been getting hit in every direction, so he thinks that if Bowser is hitting something it is better than it hitting him. But King Dedede notices that the whole castle is beginning to collapse due to Bowser’s flamethrower. He leaps off the roof and away from the castle.
King Dedede joins Luigi, Yoshi, and the Kongs as they watch the castle. Flames erupt from the castle in every direction. They see piece after piece of Peach’s Castle collapse. They watch as each tower collapses due to the heat and damage. Then the main central tower of Queen Peach’s castle collapses and the flames stop. Nothing is left standing of the castle. Dedede and the others run to the castle ruins. The water cools down from a boil but steam still erupts from it. Bowser is bruised, bloodied, and crushed under the ruins of the castle. There is a cough, Mario, who seemed to have avoided some of the damage stands up from the wreckage and walks towards the others. Luigi catches his brother as he collapses in his arms.
“Get the lumas! We need to get to Rosalina,” Luigi says clearly.
MOMENTS LATER AT THE SPACE OBSERVATORY…
Mario lays on a bed in Rosalina’s Office. He is exhausted from the fight, bruised from the ruin, and burned from the flames of Bowser. Rosalina did the best she could to heal his surface wounds, but she is reluctant to see Mario withstand the damage any longer. Luigi, the Toad Council, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Diddy, Dixie, and King Dedede are all gathered around the office. Peach, Daisy, and the Toads just land at the Space Observatory. Peach goes into Rosalina’s Office, Luigi follows.
“Bowser was acting crazy,” Luigi explains. “Spitting flames everywhere and destroying the castle on top of him. Mario got caught in the wreck.”
“He was covered in bruises and burns,” Rosalina says. “I did the best I could to heal whatever I could get to, but…I don’t think he can survive his internal injuries.”
Peach kneels besides Mario and put her arm on his chest. “Can I be alone with him?”
“Sure thing Peach,” Luigi places his hand on Peach’s back for comfort, then takes Rosalina out of the room.
Tears start to swell in Peach’s eyes. She looks at Mario, he fought the hardest he could, he did whatever he could to get the Mushroom Kingdom back. “Mario, in the time being King Adjutant, you created an alliance with King Dedede of Sarasaland and fought till your death to keep the Mushroom Kingdom in our name. I would say, as the Queen of the Mushroom Kingdom, that those actions deem you to rightfully rule the Mushroom Kingdom as King.” Peach places a kiss on his cheek. She gets up and leaves the office knowing now, that she can be the Queen the Mushroom Kingdom deserves.

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE Part 1, Chapter 6: Troubled King
AT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM HOT SPRING…
Unsurprising to everyone, Bowser is lounging on the throne and playing with Lemmy. But this time, Bowser is making Lemmy change the ball while he is on it. Lemmy jumps and turns the bouncy ball into a chain chomp. He rides the ball around and around the great hall. Lemmy then changes it into a large goomba. Lemmy jumps on the goomba and it divides in two. Suddnely, Kamek flies in.
“King Bowser! I’ve just received news!” Kamek shares.
“How is the rebellion coming along?” Bowser asks. “Is Junior showing them who’s boss?”
“Why yes, he is.” Kamek responds. Bowser continues to enjoy Lemmy’s antics.
“Is that all?” Bowser stops playing for a moment. This is the most genuine Bowser has been since moving to the Mushroom Kingdom. His attention is on Kamek.
“Well, I was thinking that the Mushroom Kingdom is first priority. You shouldn’t have to deal with the drama in the old Kingdom.” Kamek starts. “It should be Bowser Jr.’s responsibility to take care of the old kingdom now. Wouldn’t you agree King Bowser?”
“Hmm,” Bowser ponders. “I could have more time with Lemmy. And I could focus on catching Mario…when he comes.”
“It would really teach the boy about running a kingdom.”
“But I would still be in charge!” Bowser claims.
“Of course, my king!” Kamek says. “Junior would be there to make sure things run as smoothly as they do here.”
“How is Junior beating the rebellion?” Bowser asks.
“He has beaten their armies, King Bowser, now he is just needs your approval to deal with the survivors.”
“I give him my approval.”
“Great!” Kamek pulls out a long contract. “Now just sign the bottom of this paper and don’t pay attention to any of the words on this top part here, King Bowser.”
Bowser signs the contract. Suddenly it disappears and Kamek flies off on his broomstick. Bowser continues to watch Lemmy bounce around. Now there are about twenty little goombas around the great hall. Poof! Lemmy turns them into little balls. He glides on some of them and they combine into one large ball. Bowser claps at his youngest son’s magic skills!
IN THE CHAI KINGDOM COLISEUM…
Sarasaland has a popular coliseum in the Chai Kingdom that is home to many festivals and celebrations. Today, King Dedede has turned the coliseum into a fighting pit. This makes Daisy uneasy. The people of Sarasaland are peaceful and kind, much like those in the Mushroom Kingdom. They won’t enjoy fighting pits.
Daisy and King Dedede sit in the royal booth; which are the closest seats to the coliseum floor. Mario and Peach are also welcomed into the royal booth. Luigi tries to get in, but the waddle dee’s don’t let him. It is for royals only! Luigi tries to get his brothers attention, or even Daisy. But they are too preoccupied with the different beasts that are coming out.
Luigi can only find a seat at the highest point in the coliseum. He watches from the top as they bring out a beast that looks strangely familiar to him. In the royal booth, Peach stands up in shock. Entering the coliseum is Donkey Kong, who will have to fight three other beasts stuck in the coliseum.
“Mario!” Peach calls her husband. “That’s Donkey Kong.”
“King Dedede! That is our friend!” Mario claims. “What is he doing in the fighting pits?”
“Ahh, he will be fine!” King Dedede reassures. “My money is on him!”
In the fighting pits with Donkey Kong are Bugzzy, Bonkers, and Bandana Waddle Dee. If anyone, DK knows that the big purple Bonkers will be the most difficult to defeat. It is moments before the battle is to begin and the crowd is quiet. A horn blows and the four opponents run at each other!
Bugzzy is using the air to its advantage. None of the other fighters can fly, so it has a unique advantage. Bonkers throws his hammer at DK which he stops with his hands. The two are testing their strengths. Can Bonkers push DK’s hands down or can DK knock the hammer away? Bandana Waddle Dee huddles in and starts to stab DK with his spear. It hurts DK’s leg so he kicks the little monster out of the way. Bonkers uses this distraction to throw DK off balance, who is now on the coliseum floor.
The crowd cheers! Daisy is shocked. She watches as the people of Sarasaland are living for the coliseum fight. Daisy looks over at Peach, it is madness! King Dedede is very into the fight. Mario clenches his fist at the sight of Donkey Kong struggling.
Bonkers slams his hammer down towards DK, who manages to roll over and dodge it. DK, who is now on his feet is ready for Bonkers. Bugzzy comes flying in and distracts Bonkers. DK sees Bandana Dee charging him, spear first. DK dodges the spear attack and grabs Bandana Dee. The little monster is tossed into the sky. DK winds up a fist and punches the Bandana Dee out of the coliseum! The crowd goes wild. DK looks over and sees Bonkers slamming Bugzzy with his hammer. Time to join the action.
MEANWHILE IN THE CHAI CASTLE…
Captain Toad and Toadette are navigating around the castle to see if there are any is passages to navigate. Daisy gave them a map of the Chai Castle with all the different hallways and passages on it. Now it’s time to see if any of them still work. Toad and Toadette are in the fourth floor bathrooms. There should be a secret tunnel that will lead them to a secret south exit of the castle.
“Ahh, here we are!” Captain Toad presents. “The fourth floor bathrooms.”
“It’s beautiful!” Toadette drools a little. The bathroom is a big square room made out of yellow brick. In the center is the Sarasaland pyramid emblem. On the west and east walls are five carved out places for people to go to the bathroom. Above each place is a carved figure of a sun goddess, who holds a scepter in one hand. What makes the bathroom beautiful is the large stain glass window of the same sun goddess. The sun shines through and makes the bathroom light up.
“Now, if the directions Daisy gave us were correct, we need to go to the third shoot on the east wall.” Captain Toad instructs. Toadette goes to the opposite wall. “Toadette.”
“Yes Captain,” she responds.
“I said the east wall.”
“This is the east wall,” Toadette points to the wall she stands next to. Captain Toad checks his compass. He walks to Toadette, who is at the real east wall.
“The third shoot on the east wall and pull the scepter of the goddess down to her side,” Captain Toad reads. They look up at the goddess’ scepter which is clearly out of reach. Toad looks at his partner.
“No way!” Toadette say. “I’m getting on top!” Toadette hoists herself on top of Captain Toad’s mushroom head. Suddenly, a waddle dee walks into the bathroom, it stares at them confused.
“H-h-hi!” Captain Toad stutters. “Nothing to see here just…trying to take a dump.” The waddle dee leaves. “Alright, let’s pull that scepter Toadette.”
Toadette pulls the scepter of the sun goddess and suddenly the emblem in the middle of the bathroom starts to shake. Toadette gets down from Captain Toad’s head and they watch the emblem move. Underneath it is a spiral staircase that leads to the exit of the Chai Castle. Now that they have discovered it, they put the scepter back in its place and watch as the emblem appears back to normal.
WHILE AT THE CHAI COLISEUM…
Donkey Kong and Bonkers have defeated Bugzzy. Now, the two beats glare at each other. They wait. The crowd is still. Peach covers her face with her hands. King Dedede’s eyes are wide. The two beats runs towards each other.
Bonkers swings his hammer and DK jumps over Bonkers. Now, DK is facing Bonker’s back which gives him an opening. DK thrusts his fists. Bonkers drops his hammer. DK takes the hammer and breaks it. Now it is just fists against fists. Bonkers hits DK in the face, and then again. DK returns with harder and stronger punches. Bonkers swings at DK again but misses. DK hits Bonkers in the face. The purple monkey spins, and spins, and spins, until he flops onto the ground. The rest of the fighters are knock unconscious. DK wins the first ever fighters ring in the Chai Coliseum!
The crowd goes wild at DK’s victory. The monkey collapses from exhaustion. Peach and Daisy rush out of the royal booth and into the fighting pit to console DK. Luigi runs down to the royal booth.
“Mario!” Luigi shouts. “Is he okay?”
As Peach and Daisy console DK he becomes conscious and smiles. He gets up and raises his fist in the air. The crowd roars in excitement and pride! The fighting ring concludes and the people of Sarasaland go back to their homes.
Mario and the rest are back at the Chai Castle. Donkey Kong was brought by a group of waddle dees and is sleeping on Luigi’s floor.
“What were you thinking?” Daisy hisses. “Donkey Kong was their friend and you put them in the middle of a fighting pit!”
“The monkey won! Didn’t he?” King Dedede protests.
“That monkey’s name is Donkey Kong and he is exhausted!” Daisy is pissed. “The people of Sarasaland have never enjoyed violence! I am closing the fighting pits.”
“The people of Sarasaland disagree.” Dedede argues. “They loved it. Did you hear them? They were cheering him on like he was a king!”
“He is a king,” Daisy claims.
“The people love it. I won a bet.” Dedede says. “I’m not closing the fighting pits.” Daisy knows she can’t win this argument, she stammers off. Peach follows her. All that is left is Mario and King Dedede. “Now, let’s get to the real reason why you are here.”
“I uhh…” Mario hesitates. “I don’t-,”
“My waddle dees overheard your Queen and mine speaking.” King Dedede admits. “The real reason you are here is because you have nowhere else to go.”
“Y-yes.”
“I’ll help you!” King Dedede admits. “But next time I want you to be honest with me.” King Dedede walks away to his chambers. Before he closes the door he says “We’ll work out a plan of attack, soon enough, don’t worry. Get some sleep. You’ll have your kingdom back in no time.”
King Dedede closes his chamber doors and Mario looks astonished. Had the king just promised to help him get his kingdom back?
AT BOWSER’S KINGDOM…
The fighting has stopped throughout the kingdom. There are no more bombs exploding, the chaos has died, and no more soldiers are getting killed. Bowser Jr., Morton, King Boo, Tass, and Birdo are all meeting in the great hall of Bowser’s Castle, which is still in ruins. Kamek flies into the great hall.
POOF!
It was actually Iggy the whole time. He hands Bowser Jr. the contract. “Here it is Junior, signed and everything!” Iggy claims. Junior takes a closer look at it and sees his father’s signature. He passes it around so the others can see. King Boo, Tass, and Birdo all examine it and are relieved. Bowser Jr. starts to cry.
“What’s the matter, Junior?” Morton asks.
“I’m so glad papa signed it!” Bowser Jr. cries tears of joys. Everyone else smiles at the new ruler of Bowser’s Kingdom.
“Congratulations to the new king!” King Boo screeches. Everyone else cheers. The doctrine that Bowser signed was really a forfeit of power to the next of kin. Bowser can be preoccupied with Peach’s Castle as much as he’d like. Bowser Jr. now gets to make his father proud and follow in his footsteps. Though, Junior doesn’t know how his dad would’ve liked this decision. Junior may not be following exactly in his father’s footsteps, but he is still eager to keep the Koopa legacy thriving.

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE Part 1, Chapter 5: Hot tea in the Chai Kingdom
IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF SARASALAND…
Mario and the others approach the first kingdom, Birabuto. Princess Daisy resides in the Chai Kingdom which is in the center of Sarasaland. It is easy to get through Birabuto because all of the guards know Mario and the others. The way Sarasaland is constructed is in the middle is the Chai kingdom. Then on the south side is Birabuto Kingdom, then to the northwest is Muda, and to the northeast is Easton.
As they approach the entryway to the Birabuto Kingdom they don’t see any guards. Typically, they are stationed at the front archway. Luigi looks at the tall pillars of the archway, he peers into the eyes of the sphynx statue. He can’t help but fear that there is something wrong. The earthquake must’ve changed Sarasaland in some way like it did with everything else. As they continue along, the kingdom remains oddly silent. The desert wind whispers in their ears.
pfft!
Luigi turns around thinking he heard something. It seemed like a scoff of dirt. The others continue to walk so Luigi feels pressure to do so. As the building draw nearer and the wind increases the kingdom becomes more deserted. At the edge of Birabuto the buildings are lost. Many are collapsed or falling apart as the wind pushes them. Luigi is nervous. There is more places for people to hide, if they were watching them.
“Where is everybody?” Luigi asks.
“Must’ve been damage from the shift,” Mario adds.
While walking through the sandy streets, the wreckage becomes overpowering. Captain Toad and Toadette unpack their gear for climbing equipment. Now the group has to navigate around the clutter of demolished buildings and asbestos. Donkey Kong maneuvers through the buildings to get a vantage point. It is desert and ruin until the Chai Kingdom.
The wind picks up because of all the buildings and slows the group down. They hear something rumbling nearby. A collapsing building is within eyesight. Donkey Kong manages to scoop Toad and Toadette before he hides in a building. Mario grabs Peach and hides behind a piece of rubble. Luigi and the lumas rush for cover. A wave of sand breathes through the air from the crumble of the large building. Mario and Peach start coughing from the dust. They dust doesn’t stop and neither does their cough. Mario begins to get flustered, how will he get proper air? He starts to reach for whatever air he can get.
It isn’t long until the dust settles and they can breathe properly again. They regroup in the open space of Birabuto. They are all exhausted from travel and want nothing but to rest. The Chai Kingdom can be walked to before the sun sets so there is no point of resting now. Soon enough they will get to the Sarasaland capital.
“Can we have a moment for lunch?” Peach protests. Truthfully, everyone is glad she said it. No one was going to admit it themselves. DK unpacked all the food from his gear. Peach struggled to eat the canned food but by now she had grown comfortable to it. Donkey Kong was used to eating bananas but found a new found love for canned food as well. He would jump from excitement and then lick the can clean.
Lunch made the group feel a bit better. They welcomed any energy they could muster. Scaling the buildings would be a difficult and tedious task. As they began traveling to the edge of Birabuto, Luigi couldn’t help but worry. Mario had grown used to ignoring his brother’s qualms about things.
ARRG!
Donkey Kong’s screech could be heard throughout the open desert. Luigi and the other’s look behind them to see Donkey Kong being ambushed. Mario couldn’t identify what was attacking DK. Mario rushes to help DK but notices the sharp end of a spear pointing at him from a distance. He stops to see more and more of the same creatures holding spears. Hundreds of tan pear-shaped warriors surround them. The horde of enemies start to escort the group to the Chai Kingdom.
LATER AT THE CHAI KINGDOM…
The horde has reached the entrance of the Chai Kingdom. The gate is a large tall mass with the Sarasaland pyramid emblem. The roof is bamboo with gold statues of sphynx. Just by the sound Mario can tell that it is nothing like what remained of Birabuto. The big gates open to a booming city where other tan pears walk through the streets. The buildings are just a bit shorter than the gate but share the same stylistic qualities. The streets are narrow and the buildings only separate by blocks. As the horde walks along the streets the world stops. The Sarasaland civilians move out of the way as the horde moves throughout the city.
The capital building towers before them. It is protected by steel walls and spikes. But despite this it is decorated with more golden sphynx and a gold trim. As they enter it Mario peers around to his friends. Donkey Kong is angry, Luigi is terrified, and Peach is helpless. Mario is comforted by the lumas.
The horde brings them into the great hall of the Chai capital. Daisy’s emblem, which used to decorate the walls is now gone. At the head of the hall a fat duck dressed in jewels sits on the regal chair. The horde opens up for the king to speak to Mario.
“I see you’ve gotten to know my weedle dee army!” the king boasts. “Now who are you?”
“The King and Queen of the Mushroom Kingdom” Mario answers.
“Is this true my Queen?” the King references Daisy, who up until now quietly sat next to the king.
“Yes, they are my friends,” Daisy says quietly. Luigi is in shock, he had never known Daisy to be quiet.
“Well then a friend of my Queen is a friend of mine! I am King Dedede.” The king lends out a hand to Mario.
“QUEEEENN?” Luigi is shocked.
“Look, I’m sorry for the fuss, let’s have some tea. But before we do that…get this beast out of here,” Dedede points to Donkey Kong. DK fights against all of the weedle dees. Mario urges him not to, but Donkey Kong ignores him. King Dedede leads the rest of the group into a room off the great hall. “Don’t worry, my weedle dee army will make sure he is safe.”
King Dedede leads the group into a hallway with tall ceilings. The walls are a dark brown color, but it is decorated with commemorative paintings of Sarasaland’s history. The painting has a gold frame that matches the carpets and the ceiling trim. On the ceiling again, is an intricate portrait of a Sarasaland legend. Dedede opens one of the iron doors, which is also decorated with gold imperial trellis.
Inside is another room with high ceilings. The walls are a velvet green with the same gold trim. Instead of paintings there are mirrors around to give the room a less empty feel. King Dedede leads everyone to a side door, Daisy grabs Peach’s arm to stop her. Only Dedede and Mario go into the room. The door closes behind them.
“Daisy, what’s happened?” Peach whispers.
Daisy looks at the waddle dee guard at the door. “Leave us.” The guard closes the door behind it. As the door latches Daisy’s mood changes completely, she is furious. “I don’t know what happened?” Daisy claims. “I was coming back from your wedding and there was an earthquake. We were just on the outskirts of Sarasaland when I saw Birabuto get destroyed. When we got into town this King Dedede was already here. The people had already accepted him, they thought I died!”
“So did we!” Peach says. “What happened to your luma?”
“When we were traveling through Birabuto is passed away.”
“Im sorry Daisy,” Peach touches Daisy’s arm, she pulls it away.
“This guy is a weirdo!”
“So…then this dodo guy married you?” Luigi asks, looking like a beaten puppy.
“Yeah did you see his army? I didn’t have a choice!” Daisy is pacing. “Who knows what he is capable of!”
“We will sort something out, we have a plan,” Peach claims.
“This better be some good plan!”
“Hey Daisy, here if what we know,” Captain Toad starts. “Apparently, there was some sort of cosmic event, a big shift happened. The Mushroom Kingdom is flooded, the Kongo Jungle is cut in half, nearly everything is the world has been replaced by something else.”
“And King Dedede might be part of that something else,” Daisy suggests.
“Right,” Captain Toad confirms.
“That’s why you’re all here, the Mushroom Kingodm flooded?” Daisy asks.
“All that is left is us and the few stuck on the Space Observatory,” Peach describes.
“Queen Daisy, we’re gonna need you to talk to King dodo and get some information on him,” Captain Toad insists. “Can ya do that?”
“Of course.”
In the room next door Mario and King Dedede are a distance from each other but talk sternly. Dedede has his arms crossed behind him. He is skeptical. Mario feels as intimidated as ever while Dedede peers at him.
“So why are you here King Mario of the Mushroom Kingdom?” King Dedede slithers.
“We decided to come visit our dear friend Princess Daisy,” Mario says.
“That’s Queen Daisy, we’re married…remember,” Dedede says with a smirk.
“Well we wanted to visit her and uh, we were surprised to see you!” Mario says.
“Yes, I happened to stumble on this place by accident!” King Dedede says. “My army and I were traveling across the desert when we heard a rumbling and saw Sarasaland crumbling in front of us. We went to investigate and helped out around here.”
“Really?”
“Yes, when I got here my wife was gone,” King Dedede describes. “The rest of the kingdom thought she died. Then she returned all bloody and bruised.”
“Hmm, and then you married her?” Mario is surprised.
“Yes, I felt like I had to!” Dedede claims.
“I understand,” Mario says. “Thank you for helping out around here.”
“Sure thing!” King Dedede says. “And stay here as long as you’d like!” King Dedede has his arm around Mario’s shoulder. They walk together to greet the others. King Dedede shows everyone to their rooms so they can get settled, then invites them to dinner.
MEANWHILE AT BOWSER’S KINGDOM…
Birdo is on top of the south east mountains overlooking the kingdom. She watches as an airship lands in the main courtyard of the castle. She looks around at the other destruction and fire that was caused by the rebellion. Birdo is sad to see her home in shambles. She turns away from the destruction and continues on her path. She has a nap sack full of supplies for her adventure. But she can’t seem to leave her home. Birdo turns back around and flies to the castle.
At Bowser’s Castle, Bowser Jr., Iggy, and Morton arrive. They see warriors fighting each other, explosions destroying homes, and people running from the chaos. The castle is in shambles. Parts of the roof are missing and some of the strong iron walls are falling apart. The big green spiked doors have fallen off their hinges and lay in the courtyard. The koopalings walk inside of the castle to the great hall.
“Yoo! This place is off the wall Junior!” Iggy says as he pounces on some of the rubble.
“Iggy! Calm down,” Morton growls. “Junior, we gonna go out there and fight?”
“No,” Bowser Jr. says. “I’m gonna let them come to us!”
“Bowser Jr.!” King Boo cackles. Iggy snaps and gets his wand ready. “Where’s your father?”
“He sent me to handle this,” Junior responds. King Boo appears from the shadows with Tass by his side. “Who’s that with you?”
“I am Tass, King Boo’s lieutenant.” Tass introduces.
“Hello boys!” Birdo calls from the front entrance. “I’m Birdo in case you were wondering.”
“Birdo!” Tass is surprised. “I thought you were leaving the kingdom!”
“No,” Birdo claims. “I’m here to fight for my home.”
“Ahhh, NOW you want to be loyal to your kingdom! Perfect timing,” Iggy taunts.
“Quiet Iggy,” Morton growls. “Junior wants to settle this.”
“Then settle this Junior!” Birdo calls.
“Pull back your troops, King Boo!” Junior demands.
King Boo laughs. “It won’t be that easy Junior! We have demands as well!”
“Let’s here ‘em!” Junior says.
“We want you to rule Bowser’s Kingdom,” King Boo states. Birdo, Morton, and Iggy are shocked at this remark. “The Koopa King has his priorities elsewhere. And we wouldn’t like to see this place turn into ash. Someone should rule Bowser’s Kingdom with their full attention!” King Boo waits for Junior to say something…nothing. “And if you won’t, I WILL!”
Junior thinks for a moment. Iggy and Morton stare at him for a response. King Boo is fearless. Tass is eager to see what Junior says. Birdo is shocked at the whole instance. Bombs and screams can be heard from outside the castle. “I will pull back my troops.”
“And so will I,” King Boo responds.
“But I will need to talk to papa before anything can be official,” Bowser Jr. warns. “Morton, Iggy call off the troops.”
“But Junior!” Iggy protests.
“Iggy!” Junior yells. “Call off the troops!”
AT TEA TIME IN THE CHAI CAPTIAL…
The candles dimly light the tall dining room. The floors are a dark gray stone that reflects every light that hits its surface. The Chai Kingdom signature gold trim outlines the room. The mural on the walls is of a ginormous feast; the nobility zealous over perfectly cooked ham and warm bread. Daisy sits on the right side of the King Dedede at the head of the table. She sits uncomfortably. Her hair is curled into an unnatural loaf and her dress can take the space of two chairs if it wants.
Mario and the others enter the dining room, they try to rush towards Daisy but Peach tells them to back off. Mario sits across from Daisy. Luigi wants to sit next to Daisy but Peach takes the spot instead. Captain Toad and Toadette sit next to Peach. Luigi tries to look at Daisy in the eyes but she stares at the ground instead. He can feel how angry she is by her silence.
“Hello everyone!” King Dedede boasts. “I’m glad you all could join me for tea.” Dedede sits down at the head of the table and claps his hands twice. Waddle Dee’s come pouring from the tall golden doors with massive servings of different tea. “Our chef has prepared different teas and platters for everyone!”
The waddle dee’s take the lids off of the plates to reveal interesting dishes that the Mario brothers weren’t familiar with. A pungent odor crept into Luigi’s nostrils and almost made him hurl. “First we’ll start with some pickled cappy, bark from the Whispy Woods, steamed blowfish, the beak of emp, and some kracko.” Dedede passes around the servings of the food. Captain Toad forces the pickled cappy in her mouth and washes it down with tea, the others watch in disgust. “Drink up!”
Everyone barely makes it through tea time with Dedede. Afterwards, Daisy is in her chambers because she insists on sleeping in a different room from her new king. She looks out into the balcony. There is a knock on her door. It is Luigi!
“Daisy,” Luigi mutters. Daisy turns around from the balcony. “How are ya doing?”
“I’m worried Luigi,” Daisy admits. “Peach told me that Bowser has taken over the castle! That big turtle never gives up!”
“Yeah,” Luigi seems sad. “I think Mario is going to talk to Dedede tomorrow.”
Daisy laughs. “I preferred it when you called him dodo.”
“I got this for you, before we left the Mushroom Kingdom,” Luigi hands Daisy a picture of them, Mario, and Peach on the wedding day.
“Oh Luigi!” Daisy hugs Luigi. “I love it!” She kisses him on the cheek. Luigi’s face turns bright red.
“Well uh…I should be going!” Luigi quickly scatters towards the door but before he could sneak out-
“Luigi,” Daisy calls. “Thank you.”

SUPER SMASH BROS UNIVERSE Part 1, Chapter 4: Rebel Feet
IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
“We are not staying here tonight!” Toad Minister says sternly. Peach and her council are in the Kong treehouse with Mario. Toad Minister and The Chancellor refuse to stay in the Kong’s treehouse for the night. They don’t want to live like animals. Toadstern could care less.
“You should be grateful that you’re not still in that cage,” Toadsworth quips.
They could go back to the Space Observatory, but Mario and Peach don’t want to bother Rosalina more than they already have. She needs to focus on detailing the new map of the world with all the data their lumas are sending. Mario thinks it’s best to find refuge in Sarasaland anyways.
“I say we go to Sarasaland as soon as we can,” Peach states.
“I agree,” Toadsworth says.
“But you said Daisy’s luma is gone,” Toad Minister is challenging Peach. “Who knows if Daisy survived the shift!”
“Sarasaland is still there, let’s uh assume that Daisy is too,” Mario reassures everyone. He isn’t sure if Peach can handle losing Daisy.
“Do we know if it changed? The Mushroom Kingdom is still here but it is completely underwater,” Chancellor asks.
“That’s the problem,” Mario starts. “We don’t know what to expect. That’s why were gonna go there.”
“Well, if we are unclear about the stability of Sarasaland then the Prin –Queen and her council shouldn’t go,” Toad Minister says.
“I am going,” Peach says. “If something happens then Toadstern can resume his duty.” The room is quiet. “He has done a fine job at it.”
“Peach, I would suggest” Toadsworth starts.
“–I want to do this,” Peach commands. The council doesn’t refute the plan to go to Sarasaland. Peach gives the council what they want and decides to bring them to the Space Observatory in the morning. She pushes everyone off to bed.
In the middle of the night Peach listens to the sounds around her; Mario breathes steadily next to her, Luigi is snoring loudly from across the room, and Dixie is playing in the trees. Peach can’t help but think all night. What should her move be after getting to Sarasaland? What if Daisy isn’t alive? What if the council can’t survive on the Space Observatory?
IN THE MORNING…
The council is getting ready to go to the Space Observatory. Despite some of their differences, Peach hugs them. She knows that they are looking out for her as well as the Mushroom Kingdom, however, she wants to start taking action. Toadsworth recognizes this and decides not to argue with her. She watches them disappear in the star launcher and begins to plan for the trip to Sarasaland.
Yoshi is going to be left at the treehouse with Diddy and Dixie while the rest go. Everyone is really concerned about what Yoshi saw happen to his home. They don’t want to put him in front of harm’s way. DK decides to go with the others; he believes he knows the route to Sarasaland the best. He doesn’t want Diddy and Dixie to come because they will be crossing through kritter territory. Although they can defend themselves, he wants someone to hold down the fort.
Captain Toad and Toadette pack supplies for everyone so they are prepared. There are nap sacks for everyone, each with extra food, clothes, supplies, and weapons. Peach reassures Luigi because he is scared of traveling through the jungle. She reminds him of Daisy, this will be the best chance at finding her.
Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong wish the travelers good luck. Banjo-Kazooie go their separate ways through the jungle, but leave them with a few eggs to eat.
IN THE BOWSER’S CASTLE DUNGEONS…
Birdo lies in her cell. She hasn’t been fed properly in the dungeons so she is lethargic. It is cooler in the cells too, which is refreshing to be away from all the magma heat. There has been constant banging from above the dungeons which makes Birdo wonder what is happening. Suddenly, she starts to hear clanking from down the dungeons. She hears cell doors getting unlocked. Eventually, a Paratroopa approaches her cell with a set of keys. His shell is a burgundy color, his eye brows are gray, and his wings look weak when they flap.
“Hello Birdo. My name is Tass. I’m here to set you and everyone else free,” Tass says.
“Set free?” Birdo asks.
“Yes, the revolution is here!” Tass claims. “Though I wouldn’t plan on moving back to the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser has set his new home up there!” he opens the cell door for her. Birdo walks out of the cell in a trance; she is mystified at this predicament. The floods of prisoners walk past her; goombas, koopas, and boos, distract her.
“Why are you revolting?” Birdo asks still in a trance.
“Bowser and the koopalings have relocated to the Mushroom Kingdom, we haven’t seen any of them for days.”
“I’ve only been down here for days?”
“Yes. I am part of the Golden Star Rebels,” Tass can see Birdo staring at him blankly. She is out of it. “Here, come with me. You seem ill. Let me bring you to the shelter.”
Birdo takes Tass’ hand and wobbles with him out of the dungeon. They leave the dungeon and see chaos throughout the castle. Rebels and warriors are fighting each other. Explosions are tearing Birdo’s attention. She doesn’t know how she is walking, she is doing it by instinct at the moment. Her and Tass travel past beaten and bloody soldiers, they exit the big gates and down the nearest side street. The rest of their journey is a blur.
SOMEWHERE IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
As Donkey Kong trots through the jungle he is partly looking at the map Banjo gave him. Banjo had been interested in drawing lately, so he thought it was the perfect opportunity to test his skills. DK can’t read anything in general, but when given to Mario or the others they realize how incomprehensible a paper full of scribbles are. Peach crumples up the paper and throws it in her valise.
Luigi hears something like running water. He hopes that they haven’t circled back to the Mushroom Kingdom. They come across the river that leads into the Kongo Falls. They stop. It is too wide enough and the water is running too fast so the group have to climb over it. DK grabs Captain Toad and throws him to the other side. In Toadette’s bag she has the penguin suits for Mario, Luigi, and Peach to wear. As the three swim across the river, DK brings Toadette and the rest of the stuff to the other side.
The group packs away the penguin suits and continue on their way to Sarasaland. Luigi is so anxious that he notices everything. Luigi peers at every tree, rock, leaf that crosses his path. He notices that DK is skeptical while leading the group. The earthquake has changed their world but they don’t know how much is different. Luigi can see Donkey Kong realize this as he navigates them through the jungle.
“Hey Captain,” Luigi whispers. “Have you noticed –uh Donkey Kong doesn’t really seem to know –uh where he’s going?”
“Gee yeah, I think you’re right,” Captain Toad says. “Hey DK! You know where you’re going?” Donkey Kong suddenly turns around and gives Captain Toad a striking glare. “I’m gonna say yes.”
“Donkey Kong know this jungle better than all of us combined, even if it was hit by the shift,” Peach reassures Luigi.
Every so often Luigi would have to remind himself that DK is capable. He couldn’t help but be paranoid at the environment around him. Every leaf that moved or tree that appeared could be a sign that someone was following them. Luigi has learned that sometimes he needs to be blind to his thoughts. Shutting out the paranoia may be the best decision in this moment. As they navigate through the rest of the jungle Luigi continues to focus on Peach’s words.
AT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM HOT SPRINGS…
Bowser, Lemmy, and Larry are all in the great hall. Lemmy is balancing on the ball and doing tricks for Bowser. Larry is using his magic wand to change the balls that Lemmy balances on. He changes it to a spiked iron ball, a fiery ball, and a thwomp. Bowser is getting great entertainment out of this, he claps his hands with joy as Lemmy effortlessly balances on the obstacles Larry changes.
“Bowser! Bowser!” Kamek flies into the great hall.
“Can’t you see I’m busy?” Bowser growls.
“It is important sir!” Kamek floats in the air for a moment. Bowser’s silence can only mean a few things.
“Go on…”
Kamek sighs to himself. “Your castle across the Wedding Lake is under attack, sir!”
“Hmm?” Bowser straightens his posture up, now he is curious. “From who?”
“The Golden Star Rebels!”
“Who are the Golden Star Rebels? Does Mario have anything to do with this?”
“No. They seem to be angry with you for leaving them for the Mushroom Kingdom,” Kamek starts to sweat, he is afraid of Bowser’s reaction.
“Hmm,” Bowser stops playing with Lemmy.
“Well who is leading these rebels?” Bowser peers at Kamek.
“Some paratroopas, pokios, and King Boo.”
“JUNIOR!” Bowser screeches! Suddenly, Bowser Jr. comes flying in on his clown car.
“Yes papa,” Bowser Jr. greets.
“I need you, Iggy, and Morton to go to the old castle and sort out this rebellion,” Bowser instructs. Iggy and Morton, who had been spying, walk into the great hall.
“What rebellion?” Junior asks.
“It seems that the Golden Star Rebels are unhappy with our vacation home,” Bowser claims. “Tell them not to worry that I am just as focused on them, as I am on little Lemmy.”
“Okay dad,” Bowser Jr. responds.
“And Junior, take an airship, just in case things get messy.”
Bowser Jr., Iggy, and Morton prepare the airship and fly off to the main kingdom. The three koopalings are confused why Bowser isn’t going to deal with this himself. But their father seems insistent on waiting for Mario and Peach to return. Junior isn’t sure how much this plan is going to work. The Golden Star Rebels will most likely be angry that Bowser isn’t there. Anyways, he doesn’t question his father and flies away.
NEAR THE EDGE OF THE KONGO JUNGLE…
The gang is arguing over whether to walk overnight or not. Donkey Kong wants to get to Sarasaland as soon as possible. Mario and Peach are concerned that hiking in the night will be too dangerous. Luigi wants to be anywhere but in the jungle at night. Toadsworth and the rest of the toads agree with everyone else. Majority rules. DK gives up and they set up camp.
This is another situation where they are glad they brought all of the gear. Although it was heavy, everyone has a tent (besides Donkey Kong who refuses to sleep in one), food, and matches. Toadette gathers the wood and branches and starts the fire. Mario and Captain Toad roast some of the chicken saved in their packs. Donkey Kong watches them in the trees and feels a little bit lonely, he wishes the rest of the Kongs were with him. Besides that he hasn’t heard anything from Funky Kong, Tiny, or Cranky since the shift happened. He sees Peach saving bananas. He climbs down to get the bananas but ends up sitting by the fire with the rest of them.
“WHA!” Luigi shines the flashlight at a spot in the jungle. He thought he heard something.
“Luigi, give me that!” Toadsworth reaches for the flashlight.
“No…” Luigi holds onto the flashlight tightly. They start to wrestle over the flashlight. BAM! Toadsworth let goes and it hits Luigi in his nose, making it much larger than it already was. The light goes out. Luigi tries to turn it back on but the flashlight seems dead.
As the fire begins to dim everyone starts to go in their tents. Mario and Peach share a tent while Captain Toad and Toadette do too. DK climbs up the trees to sleep and Luigi has a tent to himself. Luigi can’t sleep in his tent, he is spooked by the shadows that creep around his tent. He still grips the flashlight like it will work, but it remains dead.
WHOOSH! Another shadow creeps by his tent.
Luigi can’t take this anymore. He unzips himself from the sleeping bag. As he clutches the flashlight he unzips the tent and starts to walk slowly to Mario’s tent. While Luigi tip toes, he can’t help but feel like something is behind him. Like a big green monster with big teeth and sharp claws his creep-
WHAAAAA!
Mario runs out from his tent to see another horde of kritters surrounding camp. The jumble of green, red, and blue kritters hold torches so they can see Mario clearly. A break appears in the group of crocks and Kalypso appears holding Luigi. Her big purple afro and sharp fangs can be seen in the torch light. Behind her is a big blue kritter named Krusha, his large muscles intimidate Mario and the crew.
“Well what are the Mario brothers doing all the way in this part of the jungle?” Krusha asks. He shoves Luigi back to the center of the campsite.
“We don’t want any trouble, we are just passing through,” Mario explains.
“Passing through? To where?” Krusha asks.
“Sarasaland,” Mario responds timidly.
“Then you’re goin the wrong way,” Krusha says.
“O-o-our map says o-otherwise,” Luigi stutters. The kritters look at them. They burst out laughing. Krusha gets close to Luigi
“W-w-w-what map i-i-i-is tha-a-at?” Krusha mocks. Kalypso smirks to herself in the back. Luigi hands him the map that Banjo gave them. Krusha looks at it and rips it up.
“Come on Krusha,” Kalypso criticizes.
“The shift changed everything,” Luigi says under his breath.
“What was that?” Krusha bends down and stare Luigi in the face.
“The shift changed everything,” Luigi says a little bit louder. “This is the fastest way to Sarasaland through the Kongo Jungle.”
“Shift? What shift?” Krusha spits.
“There was an earthquake,” Peach steps in. “A couple days ago. It completely changed everything. The Mushroom Kingdom is gone, the Kongo Jungle is cut in half, and the rest of the world is different. That’s why we need to get to Sarasaland, to see if anything else has changed.”
“Do you believe this?” Krusha asks the kritters. They all boo in response. “You wouldn’t be planning anything slick would ya?” Krusha gets in front of Peach’s face. “Because a little kritter told me about Kip and Kass’ camp and how the Kongs and this princess raided it. You wouldn’t know anything about that would ya?”
“Enough Krusha,” Kalypso says. Krusha turns around in shock. “Look at the stars, they’re different.” The kritters look up at the stars. “They never been like this before. It has thrown everyone off. Do you know anything about that?”
“Well…well no,” Krusha admits.
“Fine.” Kalypso says. “Then leave them alone.” Kalypso starts to leave with some other kritters.
“Leave them alone? After what they did to Kip and Kass?”
“Leave them alone,” Kalypso says. “But you better be out of the Jungle by morning. The next time I see you I won’t be so forgiving.” Kalypso walks off. The kritters start to fade out. Krusha walks around astonished. He looks at Mario and the others enraged. Krusha turns back and joins the other kritters.
After a few moments DK climbs down from the trees and helps everyone pack up their stuff. It seems like Donkey Kong got what he wanted after all. The gang continues on their journey to Sarasaland, hoping that they don’t run into anymore kritters.
IN A SECRET HIDEOUT…
Birdo wakes up in a bed. A troopa rebel is sitting next to her and helps her get up. It gives her a glass of water, she sips from it slightly. Birdo opens the door to her room and goes out into a main common room. There is a big square table with different koopas, boos, and goombas hovering over it. Tass notices Birdo.
“Birdo!” Tass greets her. “I’m glad you’re awake. Here, eat this,” he hands her a load of bread and pulls her over to the table. At the head of the table is King Boo, a huge and menacing figure. “Everyone, this is Birdo, one of Bowser’s close advisors.”
“HELLOOOO BIRDO,” King Boo cackles. “What brings you here?”
“I will ask the same thing,” Birdo responds.
“Birdo, it’s not-,” Tass starts.
“Don’t fret, Tass,” King Boo says. “It has been apparent for a long time that Bowser’s intentions were divided. He has been so adamant on marrying Princess Peach that he has forgotten about everything else.”
“It’s Queen Peach,” Birdo adds.
“Well the Queen Peach still proves to be Bowser’s biggest concern,” King Boo starts. “Word has gotten to Bowser that the rebellion has started and he sent Junior to fix it.” There is disgust throughout the room. “The Koopa King doesn’t care.”
“And you want the throne?” Birdo asks King Boo.
“I want someone besides Bowser to have the throne, if that happens to be me then so be it,” King Boo responds. “Now, why are you here Birdo?”
Birdo stops for a moment. She can hear the crashing and chaos from outside. Her home is being destroyed. “I’m here to leave. Thank you for rescuing me, but I don’t want to be here.” Birdo starts to leave and Tass goes to her.
“Birdo,” Tass pleads. “We can help make this place better, with you!”
“I-I don’t want any part in this.” Birdo walks away from Tass and out the door of the hideout.
“TASS!” King Boo cackles. “You just got our best lead to the Koopa King. You fetch her so we can end this revolution.” Tass hurries after Birdo. He steps outside of the hideout and loses her in the mass chaos of Bowser’s Kingdom.
THE EDGE OF THE KONGO JUNGLE…
All that Luigi knows is that it is dark out. And that he is tired. The canopy in the jungle hides the sun, especially during dawn and dusk. They continue to walk in the nearly dark jungle and avoid as many obstacles as they can. However, everyone is exhausted from all the traveling so they don’t bother trying. Even Mario is acting lethargic!
“SAND!” Captain Toad screams. “It’s sand!”
Everyone starts cheering! Sand! Sand! Sand! They couldn’t be happier to see sand because that meant they were close to Sarasaland. Now the group has a bit more excitement in them so they start running. They follow the natural path until they see the sign that says Sarasaland; Blooming with Calico! Finally, they look out in the distance and see the landscape of Sarasaland in the desert.

SUPER SMASH BROS UNIVERSE Part 1, Chapter 3: Jungle Hair
AT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM HOT SPRINGS…
At the brink where Peach’s Castle meets the Kongo Jungle, Yoshi and his Luma stand; they’re looking at the steaming hot spring that Bowser created. The Koopa King’s airship still flies above the castle. Yoshi can hear a rumbling from behind the castle doors. He can’t get too close or someone will hear him for sure. He circles around the rampart to find someplace more concealing. He sees the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom is flooded. This has to be because of the earthquake! It looks like Yoshi’s Island isn’t the only thing damaged by the shift. As Yoshi peers into the castle he can hear Bowser complaining and throwing things.
“The whole Mushroom Kingdom is flooded and Mario is nowhere to be found!” Bowser screams. “This plan was useless!”
Yoshi and Luma are relieved to hear that Mario and the others aren’t caught up in this mess. But where could they have gone? The Kongo Jungle? Or maybe his own island? He isn’t sure if either of those places are safe to be in! Yoshi tells the Luma to tell Rosalina what they saw. Luma concentrates and sends a message to one of Rosalina’s Lumas, they should hear back any second now. Yoshi’s Luma explains that Rosalina wants them to come to the Space Observatory immediately. The Luma turns into a super launch star and catapults Yoshi to the Space Observatory.
AT THE SPACE OBSERVATORY…
Yoshi crashes into the Observatory roof! It is a small building; Rosalina’s Office, which is about half the size of Peach’s Castle. It has one long pointed roof, painted blue in resemblance to Rosalina’s dress. Surrounding the office is a circular courtyard where the rest of the Lumas can relax. There are a few buildings underneath the Observatory that act as living quarters for visitors.
“He does get a lota height when he jumps!” Mario adds.
The Mario brothers climb onto the roof and bring Yoshi down to the ground where his Luma is there to meet him. They bring the basketball star/dinosaur and his friend to Rosalina’s office. As they navigate around the observatory, Yoshi sees toads, goombas, and other koopas wandering about. He assumes that what was left of the Mushroom Kingdom must be living here. In Rosalina’s office, there is cylinder which acts as the power source and a large computer on the far wall.
“Welcome Yoshi, it’s good to see that you’re okay,” Rosalina greets and turns around to face the map. “Because the rest of the world isn’t.”
“It seems that we have lost most of the world. Not cause of that earthquake.” Mario explains. “There’s something more at stake.”
“This is the map of the world,” Rosalina starts to zoom in on aspects of the map. “This is the Mushroom Kingdom,” not too far from it Rosalina points at “the Kongo Jungle. They are right on top of each other. And Yoshi’s Island, is smashed into this other continent.”
Yoshi coos at Mario. He makes other noises that only Mario can really decipher. “I think Yoshi is saying he lost someone,” Yoshi coos again. “Or maybe everyone!”
“That’s uh- Sarasaland right?” Luigi points to the desert land to the west of the Kongo Jungle.
           “I believe so,” Rosalina answers.
“S-so Daisy might be alive? She might still be here?” Luigi stammers.
“It’s possible! However, I haven’t heard anything from her Luma.”
“I say, w-we go find out for ourselves!” Luigi is hesitantly confident.
“I say you’re right,” Rosalina agrees.
“Ooh, I was hoping you wouldn’t say that,” Luigi whimpers.
“You, Yoshi, and I will go down there are try to scope everything out, alright Luigi?” Mario questions his brother.
           “Alright,” Luigi gives in.
“I think if you are down there we can get a better look at what happened during the shift. I’ll send you to the Kongo Jungle, that way you can try and find Peach,” Rosalina instructs.
           “Sounds good!” Mario cheers.
“And give this Luma to Donkey Kong, it is time we are all on the same page.”
“Hey boss!” Captain Toad comes from the outer courtyard area. With him is Toadette. “If you thought we were gonna let you go on an adventure without us-“
           “Never!” Mario cheers.
“Well it looks like you’ll have some more company,” Rosalina is pleased.
           “Let’s go!” Toadette cheers.
Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi get their Lumas and meet near the landing dock of the Space Observatory. Captain Toad and Toadette run up to Mario with various nap sacks of supplies. Rosalina wishes them goodbye as jump off the dock and the Lumas carry them towards the Kongo Jungle. They look at the crowd of toads, goombas, and koopas as they give them good luck. The Space Observatory slowly gets smaller and smaller as they travel closer to the earth.
IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
Peach wakes up sweating. Her body sticks to the skirt she is wearing. As she wipes her forehead she feels her frizzy hair up in different directions. Peach looks around the treehouse and she is alone, perfect. It is nothing but her and the creaking of wood. Well, and the bugs that live in the leaves that act as bed sheets. Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong found the rest of Peach’s luggage with the other carriages: the luggage with her other clothes. She changes into something more comfortable and heads outside. While inspecting the other carriages, Diddy and Dixie didn’t find the rest of Peach’s council. Although this worries her, she is glad to see Toadsworth getting accustomed to a different way of living. Peach steps out of the treehouse to see Toadsworth eating bananas with Donkey Kong.
Diddy and Dixie surf through the trees to the camp, they have something to show everyone. DK runs towards them, Peach looks at Toadsworth, what could it be? After the Kongs coo at each other, Diddy and Dixie jump back into the jungle. DK picks of Peach and Toadsworth again. Peach laughs at Toadsworth cringing. They glide through the trees until they meet the two other Kongs.
There’s a whole swarm of kritters, King K. Rool’s minions! They guard a cage that binds Toadstern, The Chancellor, and Toad Minister. They stay silent in the trees, not moving an inch, but examining everything with their eyes. Peach and Toadsworth watch in amazement, then, start to focus. The horde of kritter’s are led by little Kremlings called Kip and Kass. After the Kongs memorized the camp, they silently leave the vicinity.
“We have to save them DK!” Peach protests. He hears her, but continues on his path to the treehouse. Donkey Kong enters the tree house and rumbles through some things. CLANK! There is a crash. DK comes out of the tree house with a barrel blaster and two peanut guns. Diddy gets giddy and runs to snatch his favorite toys. DK then pulls out a brush. Dixie complains, but DK makes her brush her hair. Peach and Toadsworth watch as Dixie takes her hat off and pulls the hair tie out. WHOOP! Dixie’s blonde mane turns into a large blonde afro so fast that it scares Toadsworth.
Diddy Kong is at the top of the treehouse with a blue egg in his hand. Diddy throws the egg high up in the air, it falls back in his arms. Diddy looks around, nothing. He tries it again, this time an orange bird catches it! The bird, Kazooie catches the egg and lands in front of Peach and Dixie. Slowly following the bird is Banjo the bear! The Kongs clap! Banjo-Kazooie goes over to DK to discuss the plan.
Dixie grabs Peach’s frizzy hair and puts some butter in it. Dixie manages to pat down all of the frizz in her hair. Dixie then ties it into a nice braid. DK and Diddy are fascinated, so they grab some of the gel and butter for themselves. They start to shape their body hair into different patterns; Diddy is fond of the triangles he draws on his leg. While, DK drew an entire jungle landscape on his back.
After that little bit of fun, everyone is ready to go to the kritter camp and save the others.
IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
Captain Toad leads the group throughout the jungle; he holds his compass out. Toadette stays on top of Luigi’s head to look out for potential danger, for she has the sharpest eyes in all of the Mushroom Kingdom. The Lumas roam around them to record data for Rosalina’s virtual map. They scribble on a paper map the routes of the jungle. As the gang tumbles through the jungle, Rosalina is watching with a close eye from the Space Observatory. She can track all of the Lumas from her computer.
Yoshi stops abruptly, Mario and Captain Toad react by stopping too. Luigi does but only after he stumbles over himself. Yoshi smells something, his nose flares and rises in the air. WOOSH! Yoshi starts flying toward the scent. The others follow to try and catch Yoshi. They watch as Yoshi disappears within the rest of the green. Toad and the Lumas can’t keep up with Mario and Luigi. A large branch pokes out of the ground and trips Luigi, smashing Toadette into the ground. Mario avoids the large obstacles and finds Yoshi, who is looking at a pile of fruit in the middle of a clearing.
“Yoshi, we gotta go!” Mario protests.
In the clearing there are large huts, kritters come out of them and look around; they must’ve heard Mario. He pulls Yoshi away from the camp. But the shifting makes another distinct noise. The kritters lunge towards their direction while Mario and Yoshi run back to the others.
As Mario and Yoshi run away they hear the kritters getting closer and closer. Yoshi tumbles on a root and knocks Mario down with him. The kritters are right on top of the two with their mouth’s open to strike, BAM! Captain Toad hits one of the kritters with a hammer. The three other kritters in the chase slow down and get in a defense position. Luigi throws fire balls at the other two and Toadette throws stones. The lumas body slam the one kritter still conscious and save Mario and Yoshi.
“That isn’t happening ever again!” Luigi says as he helps Yoshi and Mario up. “We need to focus on finding the prin –er, I mean Queen”
“Don’t look at me it was him!” Mario blames Yoshi who grins sweetly, as if it would account for the trouble he caused. They continue on their journey and hope that they don’t run into any other creepy kritters.
LATER AT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM HOT SPRINGS…
Bowser is redecorating the old Peach’s Castle. Well, the koopalings are redecorating the place as Bowser rests. He is adamant that the koopalings get everything together because other Koopa families are going to be living with them. Wendy is in charge of taking down the wedding decorations because Bowser hates looking at them. Larry and Iggy are in charge of making boats so people can travel outside of the castle. Morton and Roy need to clean up the debris from the flood. Ludwig is in charge of crafting a new telescope so he can see if visitors are climbing the wall. Bowser keeps Lemmy for entertainment, and Bowser Jr. has to change the flags.
None of the koopas besides Lemmy are interested in doing what they are told. Wendy ends up crying because she hasn’t been able to find a koopa who loves her. Larry and Iggy make wooden swords out of the material they were supposed to use for the row boats. Morton and Roy find the food stash. Ludwig finishes the telescope, but returns to work on his teleportation device. As Bowser Jr. starts putting up the flags, he has an idea. He goes to find Larry and Iggy then brings them to the roof. There they use the Mushroom Kingdom flags as a blanket to slide down the roof and into the water. As Larry and Iggy slide, three, four, and five times, Bowser Jr. gets the others to join them. Soon enough, Wendy, Morton, and even Ludwig are sliding down the roof and splashing into the water.
“You should really be doing what Bowser says or he will be angry with you,” Kamek screeches to the koopas.
“Buzz off!” Iggy says and continues to slide down the roof.
Kamek runs off to Bowser in the great hall, he hopes that the Koopa King will do something about the children’s terrible behavior. However, Bowser seems too occupied with Lemmy at the moment.
“Do it again! Do it again!” Bowser cheers Lemmy on, who is bouncing on a ball and doing back flips off it. Lemmy starts to jump on the ball, he is getting high into the air and then starts to flip.
“King Bowser,” Kamek starts.
“Not now Kamek, can’t you see I’m spending time with my son!”
“But Bowser!”
“Not now!” Bowser goes back to cheering on Lemmy who just did two backflips off of the ball.
AT KIP AND KASS’ KRITTER KAMP…
Right outside the kritter camp, DK, Diddy, Dixie, Peach, Banjo-Kazooie, and Toadsworth are watching. They devise a plan to grab the keys and release the toad council from their cell. DK expects there to be some fighting and is confident that they will win.
Toadsworth is small and maneuvers through the shrubs without being detected. He makes his way to the part that is closest to Kip and Kass’ tent. Toadsworth looks around and doesn’t see any kritters paying attention. He then looks over to see Peach giving him a thumbs up. Toadsworth rushes over and rolls into the tent. Commotion erupts immediately; growls and banging are heard within the tent, drawing kritters over to it. Dixie has already made her way to that end of the camp and sneaks behind Kip and Kass’ tent.
In the tent, Toadsworth is wrestling with Kip, and losing. He jabs the two kritters with a scepter and manages to grab the key off of Kip’s hip. Toadsworth struggles, but then breaks free for a moment and rolls over to the backside of the tent. He slides the key under the tent and watches as Dixie snags it. Then Donkey Kong arrives to knock out the kritters that are hounding Toadsworth. Kip and Kass tell the kritters to leave DK to them.
Dixie approaches the jail cell and it’s guarded by two kritters. Peach and Diddy appear from the bushes and knock both kritters out. The kritters start to charge toward the cell. Diddy and Dixie lunge at the crowd to fight them off. Peach unlocks the cell and frees the council. Kritters start to attack Peach. She manages to slap away a few of the kritters but they are too tough for her. A kritter cuts Peach in the face but is then hit by a blue egg.
Suddenly, out of the sky more blue eggs come crashing down on the kritters. The blue eggs are coming from Banjo-Kazooie. As they land on the kritter camp they knock out the kritters near Peach and lead her and the council to safety. Banjo-Kazooie help the Kongs beat the rest of the kremlings. DK lets Kip and Kass run back to their boss. A bloody and bruised Toadsworth stumbles out of the tent; the council run from the bushes to his aid. Now that they rescued the council, everyone heads back to the treehouse before any kremlings come back.
At the treehouse, everyone celebrates their victory. Banjo-Kazooie and the Kongs talk about how small the jungle is. Diddy tells them about the mysterious earthquake that changed the world. Peach thanks them for saving her. The Kongs and Banjo-Kazooie continue to reminisce about the old days while Peach brings the council to the treehouse.
“Peach, we have to get back to the Mushroom Kingdom, we cannot live with these beasts forever,” Toad Minister says.
“Those ‘beasts’ just saved you,” Toadsworth snaps. Peach is glad to see Toadsworth lightening up.
“You can’t be okay with this too Toadsworth?” Toad Minister asks.
“I am not, but we don’t have any other option.”
“Maybe we can have Diddy and Dixie walk us back to the castle,” Peach suggests.
           “And then what?” Toadstern asks.
“While the rest of the Kingdom is surrounded by water?” Toad Minister adds.
“Maybe Rosalina can keep us in the Space Observatory?” Peach is throwing any solution she can.
“How are we supposed to govern a kingdom from space?” Toad Minister questions.
“What Kingdom?” Peach quiets the room. “What Kingdom is left for us to govern?”
“The one you fought for today,” Toadsworth comments. “Despite everything you’ve lost and all the things that have changed, you are still fighting for the Mushroom Kingdom.”
“We are staying in this treehouse until we can make a decision,” Peach says. “And if no one can agree, then we are doing what I say!”
There is a knock from the entrance, someone stands behind the curtain-door. A white glove draws back the curtain and there stands Mario. Peach rushes towards him; arms open. THUD! She rushes at him so hard that they fall from the treehouse.
“Sorry Mario,” Peach laughs. “I’m just glad to see you.”
“It’s alright Peach,” Mario smiles. Yoshi had smelled the bananas from miles away, that is what brought them there. Captain Toad protested the plan, but Yoshi had a feeling that the bananas meant the Kongs were nearby.
“What happened to ya prin –Peach?” Mario asks, looking at her scars and bruises.
“We rescued Toad Minister and the others from a horde of Kremlings!” she explains.
           “You what?”
“With the help of the Kongs, of course. And Banjo and Kazooie. For once I had the exciting adventure.”
           “Yes, Peach, yes you did.”

SUPER SMASH BROS UNIVERSE Part 1, Chapter 2: You Kongo
THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM…
The path to the Toadstool Mansion is now vastly different from what Peach remembers. She realized this when the road started to shake, the carriages were almost on their sides, and Toadsworth was clutching her waist. The carriage twisted and turned so much that the Luma burst at the impact. Midway through the rollercoaster ride she felt Toadsworth drift from her waist, he was knocked out. Then suddenly, after a fierce blow, Peach is knocked unconscious.
IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
The inside of the carriage is in shambles; seat cushions are on the floor, the window is busted, and one of the doors is off. Peach wakes up to see the mess, there is a ringing in her head so she can’t focus on anything. She looks at her dress which is a little torn. Her body hurts, she feels for injuries. The side of her chest has a deep pain as she sits up. The Queen looks around to find herself in the cabin. Then, Peach runs out the door for Toadsworth, almost ignorant of her energy. Peach exhales as she sees Toadsworth standing outside the cabin, hands behind his back.
“It’s morning?” Peach looks at the sun rising behind the trees. They seem to be in a jungle.
“Seems you had a good nights rest,” Toadsworth says.
“This…is this the Kongo Jungle?” Peach asks.
“Sure smells like it,” Toadsworth ruffles his mustache and looks around.
           “Where’s the Luma?”
“I’m afraid we lost her to the impact,” Toadsworth speaks quietly.
“Where is the Chancellor and Toad Minister?”
           “I’m not sure Princ- Queen.”
“Well then let’s go!” Peach moves to the back of the carriage, she opens the trunk. “I just need to get my shoes…“ The trunk is empty, so all she has is her slippers.
“You want to go?” Toadsworth creeps closer to her.
           “Yes, let’s go.”
“Peach,” Toadsworth hisses. “We do you expect we go? This is the jungle, we will die out there.”
“And we will die standing here,” Peach rips her dress, now it is more like a skirt. “I don’t want to wait for something to find us.”
“I think we find our way back to the castle, we must not be too far off.”
“And neither is Donkey Kong, he can probably already smell my perfume.”
“Please, I would not like to spend the first day of your reign preparing your will, Peach.”
“And I would not like to spend the first day of my reign cowering like I did for the past few years.”
“Listen,” Toadsworth gets quiet. “I know you feel like you have something to prove-“
“I do have something to prove,” Peach interrupts. “And I am not being reckless. The only problem we have in the Kongo Jungle is if we are left alone. Even King K. Rool won’t hurt us.”
“You have a lot of faith in these beasts.”
“These beasts have become my friends over the years.” Toadsworth has nothing left to say. Peach continues; “Right, let’s go!”
AT THE NORTHERN END OF THE KONGO JUNGLE…
Yoshi creeps through the trees and expects to find the river that leads to Yoshi’s Island. Instead, across the river, his native island is crushed against a long plains-like area. This must’ve been a result of the earthquake that happened throughout the jungle that night. Yoshi navigates his way through the trees to get closer to the new position of the island.
Yoshi can see movement as he is closer to the island. He then hears sounds coming from the island. He listens carefully and hears humans speaking. Next, screams from some of the yoshis! Next he smells smoke from a fire. These signs make him creep closer to the island in panic. Now that Yoshi can see better, he sees humans with swords and bows. He hears more screams from his own and from the humans. Yoshi stops. He turns the opposite direction and heads back to Peach’s Castle in fear of what might be happening on the island.
AT PEACH’S CASTLE…
Mario and Luigi stayed up the whole night. Luckily, Captain Toad and Toadette appeared to help out. They rescued the prisoners from the flooding dungeons and put them in a separate room. Some of the toad scientists were working on a scuba diving oxygen tank so Mario and Luigi could breathe underwater. The whole first story and basement of Queen Peach’s Castle is flooded.  Everyone has been moved to higher floors, the furniture that could be salvaged has been, and the rest of the toads are camping out in the great hall.
Captain Toad brings Mario and Luigi out on his paddle boat. They coast outside of the main doors and into the long valley to the southeast point of the castle. Everything is flooded and now very muddy. They hear cries coming from the distance. There is a toad stranded on one of the hedges. Mario and Luigi paddle the boat towards him.
“Help!” the toad cries. “I can’t swim!” The toad jumps onto the paddle boat with the others. “What happened!?”
           “We don’t know!” Luigi answers.
“Some of the other toads were able to climb the top of the castle wall, there is a huge lake covering the Mushroom Kingdom. They’re calling it the Wedding Lake.”
“What?” Mario asks surprised. “How’d ya get up there?”
“Come on I’ll show ya!” The toad directs them to a part of the rampart where the vines are nicely placed for climbing. “Right here.” Mario, Luigi, and Captain Toad start to climb the vines. “I’ll just stay here, I’m afraid of heights too.”
Then, Mario, Luigi, and Captain Toad climb the tall shrubbery rampart to the very top. Luigi makes the mistake of looking down; he feels his stomach drop. Mario and Captain Toad are mesmerized at the view of the castle from their height. The white castle and red roof shine in the sun, the flags are flapping only feet from them, and they are right next to the birds. The trio turns around to see water.
“All of the Mushroom Kingdom is…” Mario is astounded.
“Hey boss, any idea how this happened?” Captain Toad asks.
“Bowser maybe,” But Mario doesn’t believe that the Koopa King has the power to create a whole lake, right where the entire Mushroom Kingdom used to be.
“Boss?” Captain Toad looks back at the castle and the surrounding valley. He notices that there is a jungle that is awfully close. It never used to be that way before.
           “Yeah?”
“Is that the Kongo Jungle over there?” Captain Toad asks.
           “I guess it is.”
“It smells like it!” Luigi grabs his nose.
“Gee boss, what is it doing so close?” Captain Toad asks.
“We need to get back to the castle and get Rosalina!” Mario commands.
“Hey M-Mario, do you think you could carry me down?” Luigi asks.
Luigi latches onto his brother’s back Mario carries the both of them down. Mario is thinking that Rosalina will have some sort of perspective on what happened. She must’ve been able to see it all happen from the Space Observatory. They make it back to the boat and paddle back to the castle; returning the stranded toad back to safety.
Once back at the castle, Mario’s finds his Luma so he can call Rosalina. Usually the Luma likes to hide in his office, so he leaps over steps, avoids as many toads as he can, and makes it to his office to find no one. He could check the garden, right –its flooded. Mario runs too his room, one of the toads –Horacitoad? Mario can’t remember any of the governmental toads interrupts him. However, he runs past him anyway. Although Mario is rushing through the castle, he notices all of the goombas, koopas, and toads camped out. He asks them as he runs past them if they’ve seen a fat little star with a red hat on. One of the goombas tells him to check his room.
The doors to Mario’s room burst open from his kick. Looking out the balcony is his Luma snuggling up to his mom; Rosalina. She doesn’t seem to notice he walked in. Mario slows his pace so it seems like he isn’t in a panic. “I knew you’d come looking for me,” Rosalina is smirking. She turns around with the Luma mimicking her. “Seems like being the King Adjunct is a lot more work that you thought huh?”
“Yeah! Ima swamped!” Mario jokes. There is a pause in the room because the severity of the situation warrants a pause. “The whole Mushroom Kingdom is flooded.”
“I saw,” Rosalina responds. “I’m sorry this happened.”
“Yeah, but how did it happen?”
“It was almost instantly. I was away from my computer at the time. When I felt the shaking-“
“Wait! You’re saying you felt the earthquake too?” Mario asks.
“It seems to have been much more than an earthquake. Anyways, after…whatever happened, I looked at my computer and saw that most of the world had changed!”
           “What is missing?”
“Everything, the Dry Dry Desert, New Donk City, and Delfino Ocean too!” Rosalina explains. “The only things left are Peach’s Castle, the Kongo Jungle, Yoshi’s Island, Sarasaland…”
“What else?” Mario is anxious, he looks a lot like his brother right now.
“Bowser’s Castle,” Rosalina states. “Birdo’s Luma was just captured and destroyed by Kamek. I don’t know what’s happened to her.”
“Do you think Kamek could’ve done this?” Mario asks.
“I don’t think so,” Rosalina is serious. “Which is why I have reason to believe that there may be a new threat!”
“Do you think Bowser may be back then? AGAIN?”
           “I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Mario sinks in his chair. After years and years of trying to stop Bowser from tormenting them, Mario thought he finally won. Bowser has never been capable of flooding an entire kingdom. Some other force is at work and it scares the hell out of Mario.
“I’m sorry but there is one more thing I need to tell you,” Rosalina admits. “While Peach was traveling to the Toadstool Mansion, her Luma warned me…there was a crash and her Luma didn’t survive the impact.”
Mario’s eyes start to swell. Rosalina can see him holding back his tears so she goes to comfort him. “I need to go find her,” Mario says. “I need to find her.”
“Sure. I can help guard the castle.”
“No.” Mario snaps. He then wipes his tears and clears his throat. All he can think of are a few words. There are no other thoughts that Mario can convince him of the few words that are stitched in his mind. He says them; “Rosy, there’s not much left to guard. The Mushroom Kingdom is completely flooded. No one is left besides us.”
           “Mario…”
“I think we leave Peach’s Castle. Move the rest of the people to the Space Observatory. I’ll try and find Peach with Luigi.”
“I think that sounds like a great plan, Mario. I’ll get everyone together and teleport them to the Space Observatory.”
LATER IN THE KONGO JUNGLE…
The sun refuses to pass through the trees of the Kongo Jungle. Peach and Toadsworth are worried that if they travel for too long then they will be lost in darkness. They found some luggage on their journey, but didn’t find Peach’s shoes. She continues to walk in heels throughout the jungle and it is certainly the hardest challenge she has had to face yet. They are both certain that they traveled farther from the Mushroom Kingdom, so there is no turning back.
Toadsworth is worried about all the kritters and creatures that roam the jungle. They gather large leaves and sticks thinking believing that what they are doing is productive. As soon as they gather a fair amount of supplies, Toadsworth and Peach look at the pile. They don’t know how they are going to survive the night. All they have is a few suitcases and a pile of scraps.
           “Peach,” Toadsworth whispers, almost defeated.
           “Yes, Toadsworth?” she asks.
“If we don’t survive the night-“
“Don’t say that!” Peach tries to convince herself as much as she does Toadsworth.
There is a rustle in the trees. After being paranoid for so long in the jungle their senses have become heightened. Every slight movement in the trees doesn’t slip past their ears. However, this has only made them more aware of their immediate danger, which puts them more into a panic. The rustling doesn’t get louder but it gets clearer, whoever it is, is moving closer to them. The rustling draws nearer, until its right next to them, then stops.
Donkey Kong comes out of the bushes to see Peach and Toadsworth. There is a huge sigh of relief. Until DK nearly tackles them both, they’re mutually glad to see each other. DK smells Peach and coos.
“I told you he’d smell my perfume,” Peach laughs.
It seems as though DK has experienced some of the loss that the Toadstools have as well. The Kongo Jungle seems much smaller than it usually is. It has never backed up to Peach’s Castle, the earthquake must’ve caused the land to redecorate itself. But the source of this shift is still a mystery.
DK takes Peach and Toadstool in his arms and starts jumping through the jungle. They swing on vines and glide under the jungle canopy. Toadsworth has never felt this kind of rush before. Peach laughs at his anguish because she used to be like him.
Toadsworth’s stomach starts to turn as DK climbs down closer to the ground. He brings them to Kongo Falls, which has now been cut in half due to the shift. DK sees the terror in Toadsworth’s eyes. He then takes them to his camp. There it is only him, Diddy Kong, and Dixie. The rest of the Kongs are nowhere to be found.
“Princess –I mean, your highness, we can’t do this!” Toadsworth commands.
“Do what? Stay comfortably with our friends instead of out in the wilderness alone?”
Toadsworth ruffles his mustache again and quiets down. Peach climbs the vines into the tree house that the Kongs have built. As she disappears in the house Toadsworth looks around and realizes that he might as well compromise. Toadsworth climbs the vines and joins the others in the treehouse.
IN BOWSER’S KINGDOM…
Birdo climbs one of the spiral staircases to her room in Bowser’s Castle. She dreads doing this every time. She once tried to get Bowser to put a window in her room but instead he clawed a hole in the roof. She is winding up the spiral staircase and getting just dizzy enough to know it is the end. Birdo gets to her room and plops down on the bed. It has been a long day of tending Bowser’s wounds. Before she can even think about food she wanted to lie in her bed for a few minutes.
Birdo pulls out some food from her pouch that she smuggled for Luma. After placing it on the table she calls for her Luma. There is no response. Birdo calls again. But again there is no response. It’s odd, even if Luma wasn’t hungry she would come out from hiding. Birdo gets up to look around; the dresser and under the cushions are all empty. Suddenly, there is a poof! Birdo hears Kamek cackling.
“Kamek, what are you doing here?” Birdo asks.
“I’m coming to give you a message from Bowser,” Kamek says.
           “What is it?” Birdo snaps.
“What’s in the dresser?” Kamek asks. He knows something is up with Birdo. “You don’t wear any clothes besides that bow on top of your head!”
“What does Bowser need?” Birdo asks.
“He needs you to stop being a spy for the Mario Brothers!” Kamek says.
           “I don’t-“
“DON’T!” Kamek starts. “Try to deny it! I found THIS last night,” Kamek shows Birdo her wedding invitation. “How was it? Lots of mushroom soup?”
“Where’s the Luma?” Birdo asks frantically.
“Destroyed, I know Rosalina has taught those little stars how to whisper to each other.”
“What are you going to do?”
“No, the question is what are YOU going to do?”
“What are YOU going to do?” Birdo quips.
“YOU are going to watch as we fly across the Wedding Lake then go straight to the dungeons!” Kamek laughs. Then with a swish of Kamek’s wand, Birdo finds herself outside.
An airship floats in the sky above Bowser’s Castle, the koopalings all prepare their clown cars as if for a battle. The canons are loaded, the hammer bros have sharpened their hammers, and the horde of goombas is ready to charge. Kamek flies up towards Bowser, who sits at the helm of the ship.
“We ready to go?” Bowser asks.
“Let’s go,” Kamek responds. With that Bowser commands the air fleet to charge forward. As they leave Bowser’s Kingdom they see a great lake overstretch the horizon. “Kamek! What happened to the Mushroom Kingdom?”
“A lake appeared after the earthquake, they’re calling it Wedding Lake. After Mario and Peach’s wedding.”
“Wedding!? Maybe we’ll catch them before their honeymoon!” Bowser’s jaw starts drooling with crave. He’ll be able to challenge Mario once again. Any fatigue he has been feeling since has passed, now the excitement of fighting Mario has given him energy. Hammer brothers escort Birdo to her cell.
The airship reaches the brink of the Wedding Lake and see the flooded castle. Bowser jumps off the airship and crashes into the roof, he breaks the roof and lands in the great hall. No one is around, not a toad is in sight. The wedding decorations are still up too. Bowser walks down the main staircase and sees no one. The koopalings fly into the castle from the front entrance. They have seen no one either. There is a wave of realization that pours over Bowser. For some reason everyone in the castle is gone, the toads, Peach, and Mario have all abandoned the Mushroom Kingdom. Flames pour from Bowser’s mouth and heats up the water in the castle. It now turns into a boiling hot spring.

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE  Part 1, Chapter 1: Flood the Wedding Lake
THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM…
All across the Mushroom Kingdom things stop. The toads, goombas, and koopas put aside their chores and head to Princess Peach’s Castle to watch her coronation and her wedding. Peach has insisted that both affairs to happen on the same day, the first for the kingdom. She and Mario have waited long enough, so now that they had their moment of peace it was time for them to make to professor their love under the law.
The coronation happens before the sun is up. There are already hundreds of toads outside the walls of the castle waiting to get a glimpse of the new Queen. Princess Peach joins the cabinet in the Star Room to begin the coronation. There the Chancellor and the Toad Minister, the two leading heads of her cabinet, wait to officiate the process. The Chancellor is a toad with grey spots on his head, he dons a deep purple robe and a golden pendant to acknowledge his title. Toad Minister wears a green mushroom cap with a matching vest, and a gray curly mustache. The room is silent until the door opens, it’s Toadsworth. He is a high adviser to Princess Peach and the closest thing she has to a grandfather.
“Hi ho, Princess,” Toadsworth greets as he stands beside her. The room is still silent.
The Princess looks down at him, calmly and happily. “Hi ho.”
“Right, now that everyone is here,” the Chancellor starts. “It is time for the coronation to begin.” The Chancellor reads scripture from old Mushroom Kingdom texts that make sure Peach rules for the people. She promises to rule justly, peacefully, and courageously. After all the jargon, the coronation closes with the moving of the crown. “King Toadstern, is there anything you’d like to say?”
In front of the Peach and Toadsworth is Henry Toadstern, the interim King. He holds the crown in his hand, gripping it as tight as he can. “Losing this crown is going to be tough. I struggled with the duties for a while. But more recently I got comfortable with the crown. Although I knew my role was temporary, I hope my impression will be permanent. Your highness, if you need any guidance, know that you have my support.” Toadstern smiles but still grips the crown, the rest of the cabinet looks at Peach for her response.
“When my father informed me I would be heir to the crown I lost a lot of things. I lost my innocence to the kingdom, my mother and sisters to jealousy, and my father to disease. Like every girl in this position, I rebelled against it. I ran off with a man and became a damsel. But now that I’ve defeated mine and my kingdom’s biggest enemy, I can say that I am ready. And despite all the things I lost with the title of the crown, I am happy to say I gained a friend while I took the time to claim it,” Peach interrupts the ceremony to hug Toadstern. She bows her head and Toadstern holds the crown over her head, then places it on her blonde hair. Peach rises.
“Well, well,” Toadsworth smiles under his grey mustache. “The Mushroom Kingdom finally has a new Queen.”
Later…
The day has started and the castle is full of commotion. Toads are running around everywhere. Mario and his brother, Luigi, are hiding from all the chaos. Mario is just beginning to put on his suit for the wedding. His groomsman Luigi and Geno are trying to adjust whatever they can. Peach enters the room, Mario is aghast.
“Peach!” Mario shouts. “We’re not-uh supposed tuh see each other!”
“But look at it!” Peach bows her head to show Mario the crown.
           “It’s huge!”
Luigi enters the room. “Woah Princess you’re gonna have tuh start doing exercises to keep that crown on your head.
           “Luigi, it’s Queen,” Mario says.
“Ah right, sorry, your highness,” Luigi says nervously.
“Don’t worry about it Luigi, just call me Peach,” Peach smiles at Mario. They can’t seem to believe it is finally their wedding day. Someone barges in the room.
“Princess –Queen Toadstool!” It is Toadsworth. “You need to get ready!”
“Alright,” Peach complies and follows him back to her chambers.
As Toadsworth walks Peach back to her dressing room she notices all of the decorations. Floral valances are draped around the tall walls of the castle, pink and white roses hang from the ceiling. She looks out the window to see the toadstool flags fly above the towers, and spikes defend the surrounding area. Peach roams the castle to look at all the directions to make sure everything is perfect. The ceremony is being held in the great hall of the castle, with white benches and a pink carpet to complete the theme.
           “Queen Toadstool” Toadsworth stops Peach.
Queen Peach giggles. “I’m not used to hearing that name.”
“It’s quite alright your highness, but you can look at the decorations later! We must ge ready!”
Toadsworth takes Peach to her dressing room where maids are there to help her get ready. The maids are waiting there setting up makeup, the dress, and anything else she needs before the wedding commences. However, Toadsworth sends the maids out so it is just him and her in the room. He sits Peach down and cranks up the chair so he is eye level with her. Toadsworth holds the makeup in his hand with a brush and starts to paint away.
“Toadsworth!” Peach smiles. “I didn’t know you could do makeup!”
“You’d be surprised the things I would do for you,” Toadsworth continues away on Peach’s face. “How are you feeling?”
           “I’m worried,” Peach admits.
           “About what? Mario?”
“No of course not. Mario is the least of my worries.”
           “Then what?”
“I’m worried about the kingdom.” Toadsworth stops but Peach continues to speak. “All this time I’ve been gone I’ve just been a damsel. They think I’m a damsel. A damsel that isn’t fit to lead. I’ve wasted years getting captured by apes and overweight turtles. There needed to be an interim King because I couldn’t even defend myself! It’s embarrassing!”
           “Then prove them wrong.”
Peach scoffs, “Don’t make it sound so easy Toadsworth.”
“It should be!” Toadsworth protests. “Bowser is gone, there is no more threat to the Mushroom Kingdom besides your insecurity.”
“Hmm,” Peach is quiet. “Why do you always know what to say?”
“I’m your grandfather, that’s what I’m here for Princess –er –um, I mean Queen.”
After Toadsworth finishes Peach’s makeup and hair, the door to the dressing room barges open. There Peach’s three sisters, Pinkie, Pearl, and Plum run into the room. All three sisters have blonde hair like Peach. Pinkie is tiny and small, but the prettiest out of the three sisters. Pearl is tall and skinny, with big lips and heavy features. Plum is short and fat, her hair only went to her shoulders and her dress seems just as short. They pour sand from odd places and smell of sweat.
“Where have you been?” Toadsworth shouts.
“It’s a long way from the Dry Dry Dessert,” Plum spits, some of which lands on Toadsworth’s face.
“Farther then the Wet Wet Tongue,” Toadsworth says while wiping the spit off his face. Toadsworth brings the maids back to finish getting the rest of the girls ready.
Before the wedding…
As the day goes on guests starst to arrive, Princess Daisy of Sarasaland is one of the first of many. She is joined by Rosalina, the guardian of the cosmos and one of the Lumas she looks after. Yoshi and Birdo come together and meet with the Kongs: Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie. They find their seats in the first few aisles. Cappy and Pauline joined the ceremony as well. The rest of the great hall is filled by toads, toadettes, goombas, koopas, and boos.
The ceremony begins, Mario stands waiting at the head of the great hall with Luigi and Geno as his groomsmen. Pinkie, Pearl, and Plum awkwardly walk down the great hall across from Mario. Suddenly, the shuffling of feet spread through the great hall but you don’t see anyone get up, except the humans. Queen Toadstool, for the last time is covered in white. She graces down the aisle and meets Mario’s hand. The Toad Minister walks them through their vows, then Mario pulls back the vail.
“Did Toadsworth do your makeup?” Mario asks.
“Yes! Yes he did!” Peach laughs.
           “It looks great, Peach.”
“And you may kiss the Queen,” The Toad Minister watches as Mario kisses her into a dip. The great hall echoes with cheer. In the courtyard, all the toads that camped out cheer as well. Mario takes her down the aisle and they begin the celebration!
After the wedding…
All around the gardens of the castle are tables and games for everyone to play. Toadsworth, Chancellor, and Toad Minister oversee everything like the old toads they are. Peach is overjoyed to see Daisy and Rosalina. Pauline and Cappy lead the band. As dinner gets closer everyone starts to get settled in their seats. During this time, Peach’s sisters say goodbye, they claim they have to be back to the Dry Dry Desert as soon as possible. Peach thought they cared but it is apparent that they don’t. Daisy and Rosalina fill their seats at the wedding table so Peach doesn’t continue to be upset.
Dinner is supposed to start, however, Luigi is supposed to make his speech but he is nowhere to be found. Peach sends Daisy to find him. It doesn’t take long for Daisy to find Luigi, she knows all of his hiding spots. She finds him in the bathroom on the third floor near the ballroom. Daisy knocks on the door.
“Just hurry up! I gotta go too,” Daisy jokes. She hears fumbling, then flushing, then the running of water. Luigi comes out looking like he usually does: nervous. “Do you want me to stand with you while you give the speech? I could introduce you!”
“Yeah-uh that would be good,” Luigi and Daisy start walking. “–Don’t you have to go to the bathroom?”
“Not anymore.” Daisy smiles. They head back to the tents where people are patiently waiting for their dinner. Everyone is silent. Dead silent. Daisy grabs the microphone.
“Hi everyone!” Daisy boasts. “Dinner is gonna take a little bit, I think the chef dropped his mushroom top in the soup. So now we’ll be having creamy mushroom soup instead of creamy bisque.” Silence still. “Anyways, the best man and brother of the groom would like to make a speech, Luigi!”
Luigi takes the mic but can barely hold onto it. “H-hi.” He opens his crumbled paper, wipes the sweat off his brow and prepares himself. “My brother is –a –a hero in my eyes. He has –uh saved me, countless times. As well as the Princess. I mean Queen. H –he has also –uh. He has also helped me learn –a –about politics –and –and people and love. He has shown me love. And I –I hope you see how –how much of a hero he is too, Peach.” Luigi sits down next to Mario who hugs him and kisses him. Toadsworth gets up on a stool so he can be seen and is handed the mic.
“Thank you Luigi. Now, this evening I’ve heard Peach correct people hundreds of times. Normally I would say you know, ‘Peach you can’t do that, it is rude’ but I realized the reason she was correcting people is because they kept calling her princess. Peach’s title isn’t princess, it’s Queen. Now, mistaking a regale’s title can banish you from the premises, however, we have gallons of mushroom soup that someone needs to eat. So we will wait till after everyone eats the mushroom soup to banish them.
“Did you know that no one has ever had their coronation and wedding on the same day, no one! In the entire Mushroom Kingdom history. Queen Peach managed to implement two essential ceremonies into one day. Now, I know she may have been absent for a while, however, planning two royal ceremonies in the same day is the hardest thing she will have to do as Queen. So for anyone that doubts her, know that. And to Mario, know that Princess Peach may have been your damsel to save but she is the Queen now. Congratulations to the both of you. Now let’s eat!”
The food is finally released to the masses, now the celebration can really begin. Rosalina’s lumas make a light show in the sky for everyone to view and enjoy. Some of them come over to the wedding table.
“Oh Daisy!” Rosalina calls Daisy’s attention. “I think that it’s time we have a friend in Sarasaland.” Rosalina brings over a orange colored Luma and gives it to Daisy. “It can communicate with any of the Lumas. So you can reach me, or Peach at any time, whenever you want.”
“Thank you!” Daisy jumps up and down. She takes her Luma to meet Luigi so she can bring him to the dance floor.
Rosalina inches closer to Peach. “So how come Mario isn’t King? You’re the Queen and he married you. Shouldn’t that make him King?”
“In the Mushroom Kingdom there are certain rules for the royal family. If you aren’t the heir of the crown then you have to go through a certain set of trials to be welcomed into the nobility. So in Mario’s case, after he marries me he has to affirm a governmental policy, law, act, or treaty and it has to be approved by my cabinet. And secondly he has to pay debt to me, like give me a child or restore my reputation –anything like that.”
“So in order to qualify as King he needs to pay dues to you and the kingdom.”
“Right, to prove his loyalty. His title would be King Adjutant, just because I have rank over him.” There is a pop in the sky.
“Ooh, it looks like the light show is getting interested, let’s go watch,” Rosalina takes Peach and Mario to watch the Lumas in the sky dance about. Colors flash around and swirl in different motions that mesmerize everyone watching.
Shortly after the light show people start to leave. Mario says goodbye to Geno, Pauline, and Cappy. Most of the other guests leave as well. It starts to get cold so Peach takes the party inside. After they enjoy a few glasses of wine, Daisy starts to get tired and calls for a carriage to take her and her Luma home. Yoshi, Birdo, and the Kongs don’t stay long after that either. Rosalina waits till it’s pitch black outside, this way the Lumas and the moon can illuminate a clear path to the Space Observatory. Mario, Peach, and Luigi talked for a while before they all started falling asleep.
Later that night…
Suddenly, a big rumble shook the ground around the castle. Mario gets dressed and heads to the balcony, expecting to see Bowser return with a bigger and hotter air ship. He is surprised to see water pouring out from over the shrubbery rampart. It pours from the east and south sides, though in that direction are villages of the Mushroom Kingdom. The rampart is surprisingly strong enough not to collapse but doesn’t stop the flow of constant water. Peach joins Mario outside of the balcony to watch as the moat overflows, the lawn becomes oversaturated and the land is flooding.
“Your highness,” Toadsworth runs in, stops and notices that Peach and Mario are already aware of the disaster. “Meet us downstairs.”
Mario and Peach meet Luigi and the cabinet at the second story main stairwell. They notice that the first two steps leaving the first story are underwater. Peach looks over to Luigi, he still has his sleeping cap on and his overalls are backwards. Luigi’s eyes roll to the back of his head, he leans backwards, then forwards then, SPLASH! Into the water.
“Well he’s awake now!” Toadsworth comments. “We do we suppose we do?”
“Huh! What kind of question is that?” Toadstern asks.
“Mushroom Kingdom has never had a crop die, a serious drought, or a copious amount of water in its entire existence. Apparently today is the day where all the records are broken!”
“We need to get a group of toads to start building a barrier,” Toad Minister commands. “Mario we’ll need your help with that.”
“What about the dungeons? There’s people in there!” Toadstern asks.
“We need to make sure the drainage system is still intact too,” Toad Minister adds.
“What about the damage control on the first floor, what if people are trapped somewhere?” Toadstern wonders.
“QUIET!” Toadsworth shouts. “We need time to think.”
“No –uh, you don’t,” Luigi mutters.
“What did you just say to me boy?” Toadsworth asks in disbelief.
           “Grandpa,” Peach tames Toadsworth.
“Woah! Luigi and I can handle this,” Mario starts. “Peach and the cabinet will go to the Toadstool Manor. Luigi and I will take care of the flood, we’re plumbers!”
“And how exactly do you plan to fix the flooding issue?” Chancellor asks.
“Let me handle that Chancellor,” Mario says.
“You heard him, pack a bag.” Peach says. The cabinet leaves unhappy with the situation but complying anyway. “Mario, I do hope you know what you’re doing.” Peach leaves Mario and Luigi to deal with the flooding.
“So Mario, what are we gonna do about the flooding?” Luigi asks.
“Gee Luigi, I have no idea,” Mario admits.
Moments later…
Two carriages are waiting outside the castle. Peach holds her dress up to see the water up to her calves. Peach, her Luma, and Toadstool get into the first carriage then the rest of the cabinet get in the other. The Toadstool Manor is all the way down the north road leading out of Peach’s Castle. It’s quite smaller from the castle but is a wonderful summer home that Toadsworth often lives in to get away from the castle.
“This is quite odd Peach…” Toadsworth has been trying to wrap his head around this situation. The Mario brothers ran them out of the castle almost instantly. Toadsworth needs to discuss this with someone. As he has said before the Mushroom Kingdom has never suffered.
“I don’t want to talk about this,” Peach quashes. She hasn’t been given the time to think. No one has. She needs to sit inside her head for a while. “Luma, contact Rosalina and let her know what happened.” This may be the most important decision she makes. In a crisis like this they need support from outside people. Rosalina doesn’t have room for the entirety of the Mushroom Kingdom but she does have resources and more importantly guidance. She will gladly be a hand in the storm. If there is anything that the Mushroom Kingdom needs it is a helping hand. Peach considers reaching out to Donkey Kong and Yoshi. She doesn’t see any of the cabinet going so, she’ll have to –they stop.
One of the drivers opens the door. “Your highness, it seems as though the road has suffered some damage.”
“Well can we move through it?”
“We can, but I’m not sure how it will be as we continue.”
“Let’s carry on. Let me know if anything else happens.” The door closes and Peach is left to her thoughts. Peach will check in with Mario when they get settled into the mansion. They continue on as Mario and Luigi try to fix the problem at the castle.
Across the water…
Across the Wedding Lake (named after the day it was created on), Birdo is dripping from the waves that just attacked her. She looks below as the villages of the Mushroom Kingdom are now destroyed. She shakes her head, refusing to think about all of her friends that are under water. The waves seem to come from nowhere! The Mushroom Kingdom had never faced any sort of disaster like this before.
As she is flying she sees something red in the water. Birdo floats down to see a kid in a red boat with a dragon-like face. She thinks she saw the head move. Birdo stares at it intensely. It must not have. She circles around to the boy who is dressed in green. She hears someone murmur, it must be the boy. Birdo hears it again. She catches the jaw of the dragon moves and circles around to look at it. Is she imagining things? Birdo did enjoy herself at the wedding, maybe she should just move on. Birdo reaches out her claw to touch the dragon. It bites her!
“Link! Link! Wake up!” The dragon boat shouts. The boy, Link, wakes up and slashes his sword around. Birdo backs off. Link then pulls out a baton and swirls it around the air. The breeze starts to pick up, Link mounts a sail, then they get carried by the breeze and drift away from Birdo.
Birdo continues on her journey. She needs to make it back to Bowser’s Castle without anyone noticing. She sneaks in the way she normally does, avoiding all of the Hammer bros. guards and spotlights. She perches herself on the great hall window where she sees Kamek stirring a big cauldron. The koopalings are watching Kamek intensely.
“Hey Birdo!” Bowser Jr. shouts. “Where’ve you been?”
“Looking at the flood that happened between here and the Mushroom Kingdom,” Birdo answers.
“Well look at this instead,” Larry, one of the koopalings chirps.
           “What are you guys doing?”
“Ludwig and Kamek perfecting a potion to bring Bowser back! Hopefully to finish Mario this one last time,” Bowser Jr. explains.
Kamek and Ludwig are almost done with the potion. He winds up the wand and blasts a magic spell into the bubbling cauldron. The potion starts to change color from a light green to a dark red. It is clear that the potion has turned to lava. The koopalings cheer as this transformation is happening. Kamek can see Birdo’s face beginning to worry. Suddenly, a tender claw reaches out and grabs the edge of the cauldron.
