Wallaroos Japan 2022 Australia womens Test match highlights scores
Australia’s preparations for the women’s Rugby World Cup have been rocked by their first ever Test loss to Japan on the Gold Coast.
Fullback Lori Cramer had a chance to put the Wallaroos in front in the 79th minute but her penalty attempt from a very handy angle missed and the ‘Sakura XV’ held on for a famous 12-10 victory.
Cramer complained to referee Maggie Cogger-Orr after the miss but her protestations were waved off.

“I thought she might get another shot at that,” former Wallaroos hooker Averyl Mitchell said on Stan Sport.
“You can see Lori Cramer not happy at all about the attempted chase down of the kick.”
But replays showed only minimal movement from the Japan players in the in-goal.

Regardless, it was a kick the usually reliable Cramer should have made and a game the Wallaroos should have won.
Australia is ranked fifth in the world to Japan’s 12th as both teams eye the October-November World Cup in New Zealand.

“She’s by and large the best place kicker in Australia at the moment and it’s super uncharacteristic for her to miss those.”
Neither team could score in the first half of a rugged affair at Bond University.

Hooker Ashley Marsters got Australia on the board via a rolling maul as Liz Patu entered the fray to become the most capped Wallaroos player with 25 Tests.
But some soft defence allowed Kyoko Hosokawa to stroll over for Japan’s second as the home fans started getting twitchy.

“We were probably our own worst enemy out there today,” Wallaroos captain Shannon Parry said.
“Really good line speed and they smothered our attack. We came in with a game plan and we weren’t able to execute it. We’ve been together less than 10 days and hopefully we can learn from that.”
Action replay try for Japan
Parry also spoke about Cramer’s protestations.
“There was an issue but the referee refereed the game and we take her on what she has seen,” the skipper said.
“Our concern was that Japanese players were basically coming off the line on her approach to kick putting off the kicker. The referee was happy with it so we left it.
Sean Maloney and Andrew Mehrtens review the latest round of Super Rugby Pacific, the first Wallaroos game in nearly three years and speak to Noah Lolesio after his exciting re-signing with Australian rugby
“We had a slight difference of opinion but the game doesn’t fully come down to that kick – we had a number of other opportunities to win the game and unfortunately couldn’t slot that goal.”
Australia opened its 2022 campaign with a 36-19 win over Fiji on Friday.
Despite the short turnaround, new Wallaroos coach Jay Tregonning opted to field the same 23 against Japan.
Making the Sakura’s performance even more remarkable was the late selection havoc the team faced thanks to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Former Wallabies Ben Mowen and Berrick Barnes were involved with Japan’s coaching team.

United Rugby Championship: Morgan Morris’ hat-trick secures Ospreys victory over Dragons
Ospreys secured a bonus point 50-31 win over the Dragons in their bid to qualify for the European Champions Cup; Morgan Morris scored a pivotal hat-trick helping them to draw level on points with fellow Welsh side, the Scarlets
Morgan Morris scored a hat-trick of tries as Ospreys collected a bonus-point 50-31 victory over Dragons to maintain the pressure on Scarlets as both vie to be this season’s leading Welsh club and qualify for the European Champions Cup.
Ospreys’ five points saw them draw level with Scarlets, with both now on 44 and each having a home game in their final fixture in a fortnight’s time.
The result did not look likely when spirited Dragons led 24-8 midway through the first half but the hosts’ pack took control to be convincing winners.
After a Gareth Anscombe penalty gave Ospreys a second-minute lead, the visitors responded with the first try, Jared Rosser dashing over after a line-out on the 22.
Minutes later, Ospreys were stunned when their opponents scored a second. A well-judged kick ahead from Will Reed was collected by Rosser, whose inside pass gave Adam Warren an easy run-in.

Ospreys needed a quick response and it came when prop Nicky Smith forced his way over from close range but Dragons continued their impressive first quarter and were rewarded with a penalty from Reed and a converted try from Mesake Doge.
However, they soon overcame this setback to score two tries in quick succession. First Morris finished off a line-out drive before a break from Michael Collins put Reuban Morgan-Williams in under the posts.
Anscombe converted both before Dragons lost flanker Taine Basham to a yellow card for an attempted trip.
The home side immediately capitalised with a second try from Morris to give them a bonus point and a 29-24 interval lead.
Basham returned with no further damage to the scoreboard but Morris completed his hat-trick, with the number eight having run less than 10 metres in order to do so.
Morris was then substituted with Morgan-Williams and Sam Parry scoring tries to emphasise Ospreys’ second-half superiority before a late consolation try from Lewis Jones stopped Dragons from finishing the second half scoreless.
