What is it about laying on the floor when you're overwhelmed that makes everything feel so much better?

what if the journey was worth it? what if you'll be okay actually? what if your family helps you to recover? what if something - someone - you forgot comes back into your life and it's for the better? what if you did grow, and help others, even though you were missing that person you were always brilliant? what if your best friend came back to you and stayed with you? what if you met while you were both at your lowest and you get to see each other at your best? what if your future self told you that it was okay and held you? what if you got to help your talented, caring, beautiful trans daughter/niece thrive? what if you brought each other home? what if this is a happy story?

Z: I think uncle Ace is a little upset with you.
Taro: Why do you say that?
Z, handing over a sticky-note: He told me to give you this note.
Taro, reads the note out loud: Dear Taro, I hope this message finds you before I do.

Akari, talking about Ultraseven: I once saw my dad hit three robots with the first thing he could lay hands on.
Grigio: Another robot?

Kirk: Federation law is very clear on this
Kirk: (Proceeds to do whatever he wants anyway)
Picard: Federation law is very clear on this but I’m a very creative reader
Janeway: Guys you’re not going to believe this; Federation law has fucking NOTHING relevant to this current situation but I’m going to read 20 hours of other captain’s logs to make sure. Buckle up though because we’re probably going to do some buckwild shit after the commercial break

#because in the 1960s your job wasn't supposed to be all consuming#you were expected to have hobbies#and free time to pursue them#worker productivity was a fraction what it is today#which means you werent painfully drained when you got home#it sounds wild but you were supposed to leave work with spoons left for your own life#it also helps that the crew's commute was hopping on the turbolift#and no one had to do major domestic chores#when someone else takes care of your shopping cooking dishes laundry etc#thats literal hours of your life back#but mostly they had hobbies because social expectations of work were so different#that they feel enviably alien today @android-and-ale Dude all this is gold. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT This is another of the hopeful futuristic aspects of Star Trek, to be able to have good working hours so that you still have the strength and courage to enjoy your life.
One of the things I love about Star Trek is how some of the characters use their free time, to name a few: ● Kirk spent his free time playing chess with Spock, reading books or collecting antiquities. ● Picard spent his free time reading poetry, "ancient" literature, looking at archaeological items or on the holodeck playing detective. ● Janeway tended to spend it playing mystery novels on the holodeck or playing an extreme version of tennis with Seven. ● Data would spend it with Geordi, either in engineering helping out or playing Sherlock Holmes mysteries, he would also play with his cat or practise drawing ● Seven watched the stars, studied anything that caught her attention. ● Beverly practised yoga and prepared plays. ● Riker practises the trombone ● Sulu spends time with her family or practises fencing ● Uhura practices with musical instruments Everyone has time to dedicate to themselves, in things they really like, beyond their ranks and their important positions they dedicate to enjoy their lives, they don't leave their responsibilities but they also don't forget about themselves and their "humanity" to dedicate themselves to the arts or "silly" moments that are just for fun It is the message that "Being professionals or adults should not stop us from enjoying our lives and being ourselves".

#even worf had his mok'bara martial arts#spock has his lyre playing and occasional jam session with uhura#tuvok had kal-toh#even the non-humans had their enjoyments#and we'd regularly see the others joining in#worf taught classes on mok'bara#spock would accompany uhura in the lounge#tuvok regularly played kal-toh with others @dgcatanisiri That's the most adorable thing to add, the fact that yes, it was their free time and they had their personal hobbies but that didn't stop them from sharing those hobbies with others or inviting their friends to spend time with them.
