The tomb of Karl Marx, Highgate Cemetery
London is full of the graves of the great and the good and indeed the not so great and good. Yet with all that choice, one of the most popular graves to visit is that of Karl Marx in the wonderful Highgate Cemetery.

Tower Bridge at sunrise
The photograph was taken from London Bridge. It is another post I originally made to An Every Day Thing. This was Day 2036 on 19 January 2024

Skyline and sunset, London
It may not be blessed with too much natural scenery but London still manages some spectacular sunsets. I originally posted this to AnEveryDayThing where it was the daily photograph for 1 February 2024

A surprising and secret sculpture close to Tower Bridge
This figure is part of the Waterfall Sculpture by Anthony Donaldson. It is in Horsleydown Square. Most visitors to Tower Bridge miss this square or might see it but not actually enter.

Tower Bridge
At this angle from the South Bank of the Thames there is quite a contrast between Tower Bridge and the modern City of London

Clash of the centuries at the Tower of London
The proximity of the Tower of London to London's financial centre, the City of London, makes for interesting contrasts. Here are some examples

A lighthouse in London
I like a bit of quirkiness. This lighthouse was built in 1864. Although located by the River Thames, it was not a navigational aid but used to experiment with and develop lighting equipment. You may have also seen it in the Netflix film, Rogue Agent.

UPDATE- SOMETIMES LONDON SAVES THE DAY :-)
Just one day after Sometimes London posted about Oceandiva, Oceandiva has decided to quit London!

A closer look at the old walkways crossing Shad Thames between the former warehouses
The banners saying "No to Oceandiva" relates to a protest against the mooring of the huge Oceandiva party boat outside these expensive apartments over-looking the River Thames. I must say that I have some sympathy with the protesting residents here. They have paid a lot of money for what they could rightly expect to be a quite, uninterrupted riverside view only to have the equivalent to the Tuxedo Princess parked outside (Sorry this reference is only likely to be understandable to older people familiar with Newcastle upon Tyne!)
