It’s crazy that the last POTN analysis post I made was from Chapter 87, and now we’re about to see the end of the story on Friday! 😭
Of course, despite how long it’s been, I have still been keeping up with POTN every Friday. I can’t believe how far Seungho and Nakyum have come since they first met in Chapter 1.
Here’s my thoughts on Chapter 128:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think old Lord Yoon’s words really affected Seungho when he pointed out that the reason Nakyum is suffering is because Seungho is powerless. He even recalls Seungwon’s words that say he is nothing without their father.
For this reason, Seungho knew he’d have to complete the civil service exams, no matter what, to secure a future with Nakyum. He needs the credibility and power to protect Nakyum from more horrible things that my happen and to prevent them being separated ever again.
I also do believe that he strategically poisoned his father right when he was about to pass the exams. He’s probably dying to get to Nakyum at this point, especially if it’s predicted that about 3 years have passed.
Tumblr media
The fact that Seungho can openly bear his heart out to Nakyum like this is absolutely insane and sooo satisfying. After almost losing Nakyum, it really brought out a deep fear in Seungho. To lose the only person that truly accepts and understands you is to lose your peace and sanity altogether, especially with the extremely hard life Seungho has endured.
I honestly think BD will give us a happy ending. POTN is the only story (in my opinion) that has consistently kept its fan base hooked from the very beginning. It’s been literal YEARS of reading this story & we still are begging for it to never end.
Nakyum and Seungho WILL be reunited, & I’m excited to see what that will look like on Friday. I’m so grateful to have had the honor of following POTN for so long. I hope BD will give us either side stories or a whole new modern era story with the same characters. I’ll be ugly crying when it ends!! 😭😭

Chapter 87 - POTN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s funny how life works. You can be completely content with little to no material things if you have the right companionship. Nakyum has someone who cares about him. His Noona stormed into a noble residence to try and save him despite her life being at risk. Being a peasant does not equate to unhappiness and tragedy does not not discriminate. Seungho suffered so much and is the loneliest person although he has more than enough money to live a lavish and comfortable life with servants to cater to him. This also provides some insight as to why Seungho was so unwilling to let Nakyum go. You cannot replace comfort with money when you are lonely, sad, and afraid. Once he found something or someone that comforted him, he found himself willing to do anything to make sure it stays.
Tumblr media
No matter how old you are, the hurt that you receive from your parents stick with you for life. I think this was a very eye-opening moment for Nakyum because he could finally see a glimpse beyond Seungho’s walls. Nakyum always said, “I don’t understand, my Lord.” But now he got an explanation for Seungho’s unstable and erratic behavior. When you grow up loved, you have more room in your heart to forgive the hurt that others put onto you. Nakyum endured so much suffering himself while living with Seungho, but he is willing to see past that to provide comfort to the person that hurt him the most. And that in itself is a form of strength.
Tumblr media
A non-verbal symbol of surrender. Seungho is tired of fighting alone, and chooses to surrender to comfort from another. I agree with some of the posts I saw about Seungho grabbing Nakyum as a form of protection. This protection was used for the both of them. He was protecting Nakyum from his father while also using him as a barrier between himself and Papa Yoon. No matter how strong or brave you feel, suffering alone is shitty for everyone. Humans are creatures of relationship and connection. We need each other to survive.
Although Seungho’s father is gone for now, he did get to see the lowborn from the rumors going around. He has a name and a face to come back and get revenge. I am glad that there was not a complete blowout, but there is definitely more action to come.
Tumblr media
+ BONUS - LOOK HOW FUCKING CUTE HE IS. This was my favorite part of this chapter period. A smile and personality that lights up the whole room. Seungho is truly a lucky man.

Pretty sure Seungho was trying to protect Na-Kyum here so Father Yoon won't grab the painter, but at what cost, I wonder...?

Has anyone sensed the sadness and Seungho's sanity about to slip away in this scene? Because that's what I sensed upon first reading it. He's literally clinging onto Na-Kyum to keep himself grounded and not lose himself
I can also see it as a way of not allowing Yoon dad to come close to Na-Kyum so Seungho acted this way on purpose, because notice that there was no moment when Seungho's veins popped up by the force of his hold on Na-Kyum. He's completely aware of his actions, no doubt he had internalized not to lose himself in the presence of the painter after that fiasco when the messenger disturbed them that night
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way I see this scene now is a new version of chapter 53
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^Chapter 87 vs Chapter 53, with Seungho and Min
With the kiss and the lunatic act, Seungho had successfully protected Na-Kyum from his father physically and potentially verbally harming him, not even giving Na-Kyum a chance to be asked of his identity
But we all know that old Yoon has his ways of knowing Na-Kyum's identity, as we already know he had dug up dirt on Inshit and his connection with Seungho, and pretty sure the old fart knows Na-Kyum is a man although he looks very much like a woman. It's the pants, I know.

I sensed a feeling of guilt from Seungho in these panels. Almost like he's ashamed of how he behaved earlier and just now.
Notice how as soon as his father leaves, Seungho freezes, as if catching himself. Then the tension finally leaves his body and he slumps down, breathing heavily. He also immediately hides his face in Nakyum's shoulder. Almost like he's asking to not be judged. Like he's silently asking for forgiveness and acceptance.
But the major feeling I was getting from Seungho here is gratefulness. I think that Seungho is definitely relieved that the stand-off with his father went by without any huge incident, and most of all, that Nakyum chose to stay by his side during it. Even the simple fact that Nakyum showed up in the shrine after being set free by Kim, already speaks volumes to Seungho and the readers. Instead of running away and leaving like he told Seungho he would do, Nakyum instead rushes to his side. Maybe that's why Seungho's reaction after seeing Nakyum in the shrine was relatively tame considering his mental state right now. He didn't vent his overwhelming emotions at Nakyum, rather he included Nakyum into the scene as a sort of barrier between himself and his father (also a sign of the trust Seungho has in Nakyum). And even while doing that, Seungho wasn't being harsh towards Nakyum. His actions were provocative, meant to enrage his father, not to hurt Nakyum. And as soon as the father was gone, it was obvious that Seungho was only putting on a display.
So yes, I think Seungho is definitely feeling grateful. He seems humbled by all that went down (before the father showed up and after).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this, this is huge for Seungho.
For him to finally submit himself to Nakyum's, or anyone's, care, to allow to be held and quietly comforted like that. It's huge. Especially considering the fact that now Nakyum knows. And there's no way Seungho can hide his true self anymore. And it must be excruciating for Seungho to be fully seen by anyone, even more so by Nakyum, so the fact that he's allowing Nakyum to be there for him even after learning the truth, is a huge development.
And the wordless acceptance from Nakyum is so good for Seungho's mental state here. I don't think he has ever experienced it in his life, so this will definitely rewrite some of his trauma responses. I'm just so happy that Nakyum wasn't scared to comfort Seungho here. This is so very important for the both of them and their relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lastly, I love that they go to sleep together. With no explanations needed. And the fact that Seungho is able to fall asleep? That he manages to get some sleep even after all that mess with his father? As exhausted as he was, he absolutely wouldn't have fallen asleep just like that, if not for Nakyum providing the comfort and care. I think it's an obvious sign of how much Nakyum's presence helped Seungho come down from the edge of a mental breakdown.
Just, oh man. This went so much better than I expected. My heart is full. I won't get into the part where Nakyum reaffirms the plans for their future, which is also huge (there are already quite a few posts here on tumblr about that). I just wanted to analyse the whole aspect of acceptance, comfort and Seungho feeling grateful and letting himself appear weak for once.

Just a rant today but….
I’m not sure what happened that Nakyum was able to ditch Kim and leave his room, but I feel like this was a huge mistake. Seungho is already in a stressful situation and now he has to worry about Nakyum and his safety. I know Nakyum has good intentions, but this was just extremely bad timing. Seungho’s expression seeing Nakyum is both anger and fear. He knows that his father will exploit his weaknesses to get what he wants, and he’s angry with Nakyum and Kim for ignoring his warning to stay away. Kim should understand most of all what Seungho’s father is capable of. I can feel Seungho’s frustration because no matter how hard he tries to keep everything together, things just keep falling a part. Perhaps a big blowout is needed for him to release all of that pent up anger and sadness. What happens next is determined by how Nakyum reacts to the situation at hand. But for the first time in this entire story, I just wish Nakyum had stayed put and listened to Seungho.
Now would also be the perfect time for Min to come and fuck things up even more. I honestly feel bad for Jihwa, since he’s just easily manipulated and makes decisions mostly based on emotion rather than logic. They’re the other shoe that’s waiting to drop…

It is easy to perceive Nakyum as a character that lacks intelligence. But this chapter really highlighted his emotional intelligence more than anything. He is fully aware of Seungho’s unhealthy habits, and he is finally vocalizing his own desires and beliefs. Nakyum knows that it is not normal to fear someone you love, and it is not fulfilling to maintain a shallow relationship with anyone. Seeing his charachter development is so satisfying and I’m proud of him for finally communicating how he feels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though Seungho initially came off very indifferent to the situation, his insecurity starts slipping through when he says he does not expect Nakyum to be his. He wants to keep Nakyum by his side but not at the expense of the lowborn finding out how broken he really is. Seungho has BEEN hoping that Nakyum will be his. The proof? He gets jealous of Inhun, he ruined his reputation by going to Jihwa’s house to seek revenge for him, he bought him a music box that was the price of a house, & so much more. Nakyum reminds Seungho of youth, innocence, and young love, which are all the things he was deprived of due to his rocky childhood. To lose Nakyum would mean losing the only light in his life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When things aren’t going Seungho’s way, he turns to force. He is willing to do anything to keep Nakyum by his side, even if it means destroying any emotional development they had in their relationship. For Seungho, it’s raw desperation and a fear because of the dependency he has on this “lowborn” that he has grown to love more than his own life. It’s really a life or death situation for him. Other than Nakyum, he has no other comfort and slips back into that dark place that he has been suffering in for so long. Sex and drugs only offered him a temporary high that always left him unfulfilled. I have a feeling Nakyum is starting to sense the depth of Seungho’s fragility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The trembling & the sweating make me so nervous for the next chapter. You can really see the iron grip that his father has on him. No matter how fearless Seungho seems, his father will always be a beacon of pain and suffering. What happens next will affect every character in this story, and it’s probably not gonna be anything good. If Nakyum really wants to know about Seungho, he’s gonna find out real soon with the shit show that’s gonna go down.

A sobering reminder to Nakyum (and POTN readers) that people do not change over night. This especially applies to Seungho, who has endured a great deal of trauma from a young age. To me, it is normal and not surprising that he snapped when the past came back to torment him. Seungho is so used to giving a sexual response to his pain and suffering, and it was especially difficult to hold back after seeing Nakyum bare in front of him when he returned to the room.
Tumblr media
Nakyum is a gentle lover. He values the slow and sweet burn of love, which is why the little things matter the most to him. After experiencing the gentle way Seungho has been treating him, he lost all logic and reasoning because of two reasons:
1. His environment - Nakyum has technically been held hostage by Seungho for months now. He literally knows no one but Seungho and the servants at the moment. Although I do believe his feelings for Seungho are genuine, I can’t ignore the fact that Seungho is his only source of romantic love and affection. In an environment where lowborns are forced to be anything and do anything for nobles, it is hard to truly refuse them. In this case, Seungho unconsciously tasked Nakyum with the huge responsibility of giving him comfort and healing from all of his trauma and abuse.
Tumblr media
2. Experience - Nakyum lacks true romantic experience. His little crush on In-hun is nothing compared to the sexual and emotional relationship he’s built with Seungho. Now that he got a taste of what a sweet and gentle love could be, he fears that he may never experience this again from anyone else. To be with someone who accepts his sexuality and embraces it is already rare during that time. This first-time love is what makes Nakyum believe in Seungho and his promise.
Tumblr media
Even if Nakyum doesn’t say anything, Seungho knows he did wrong. The look on his face is the same look he had when he thought Nakyum was going to leave him. Besides confrontation with his father, his greatest fear is losing Nakyum because he will truly be alone if Nakyum is gone. Seungho also wants to love and be loved by the lowborn and was hopeful that Nakyum was opening up to him. In a single moment, he feels like he fucked up everything he worked for - Nakyum’s trust and affection. If I’m being honest, I want him to feel regret and beg for forgiveness since we have yet to see a genuine apology from him. Byeonduck’s favorite thing to write is definitely ✨angst✨, and I’m not mad about it.

Thank you❤️❤️I definitely agree that he’s also mixing some bitterness and sarcasm in there. It’s like a front to protect himself from seeming too vulnerable. But it all comes down to our own interpretations bc Seungho is always so cryptic lol
Wow it’s been a minute! Finally, we begin Season 3 and have something to look forward to every Friday❤️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The explanation of the role that Mr. Kim played in Seungho’s life is pivotal in moving the story forward. He was perceived to be a loyal servant throughout the story, but we can see how his lack of judgment in that moment turned Seungho toward a dark and lonely path. He not only hurt Seungho, but he also hurt himself after seeing the young boy abused and broken by the hands of his father. He feels regret, guilt, and sorrow for the person the young master has become because he knows he played a role in it. These feelings are an indication that Mr. Kim is actually a good person at heart despite his previous actions. Unfortunately, his decision was based off of societal pressure and stigmas during that time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These panels show the human side of Seungho because of the fact that he was genuinely hurt by this betrayal. He loathes himself and has deep-rooted insecurities. Even though he hates his father, he still reprimands Mr. Kim for comparing himself to his “noble father.” The most heartbreaking part was him telling Mr. Kim, “Since when were you ever mine?” This was a reminder to his servant that he remembers his betrayal and won’t ever forget whose side Mr. Kim chose long ago.
Tumblr media
Finally, we have these cuties🥺 It’s funny that he says he doesn’t have anything that he could call his when he treats Nakyum like a wife that belongs to him. He gets jealous and possessive over the painter. He’s trying to lay down his pride and show Nakyum that he is trying to be better for him. As we get more fluff from these too, the reveal of Seungho’s past will keep POTN painful just like Byeonduck likes it lol.
Till the next update🥂
