Somali Airlines - The White Star Service
Founded in March 1964 as the flag carrier of Somalia, the White Star Service connected Mogadishu with Rome, Frankfurt, Doha, Cairo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Djibouti and Nairobi.
With almost 800 employees, 51% of the company was initially owned by the national government while Alitalia owned 49%. The airline was then fully nationalised in 1977.
It ceased operations in 1991 following the outbreak of civil war.
