I really feel like a huge reason Scott gets flagged as “holier than thou”/“white knight” in fandom is because Teen Wolf is a soap opera where the thirst for vengeance is the primary preferred motivation for its fans

Scott, as a character, would fit right in with other popular shonen heroes. Power of friendship! Choosing mercy! Second chances! A little goofy and a lot of pure heart! Compassion in the face of cruelty is Scott’s directive

In contrast, you have someone like Derek who fits right in with the soap opera aesthetic. He’s your typical Byronic hero, brooding and closed-off with a good heart underneath it all. Not to mention his twenty tragic backstories

So while, yes, the writing does Scott dirty, it’s also a matter of his personality not fitting in with the fans of the given genre

I just… love the mess that is teen wolf so much. I love the cheap fights with techno music blasting, the funny way they extend their claws, the villains that turn into allies because there’s even worst enemies to defeat, the healing abilities that work or not depending on the plot, the friendship of Scott “I’m not letting him die” McCall and Stiles “Could you aT LEAST thiNK abOUt letting hiM DIE??” Stilinski, the non existent lights from season 5 to 6, the highs and lows of lacrosse, the coach and Greenberg, the random resurrections, ….I just…. there’s twin werewolves that merge into each other creating a big ass dude, there was a dude with a mouth on HiS hAND. I love teen wolf.
