Okay so mild rant about the app I use to read manga
and yes I use an app. ss on an app just look better imo, anyways, the app doesn't have the yuri tag in the search bar like it does with yaoi so it makes it a bit annoying to find yuri
(I still can use that tag its just harder to find)

The character of Uta is very shockingly personal. The way she’s written, how she thinks and acts, as well as the things she says it all seems realistic. Uta arguably has the most subdued personality, but she grows the most and her persistent doubts along with her attempts to move forward all make her very charming. Her repression of her feelings, both love and just other feelings like discomfort or pain, maybe relatable to those who are lgbtqia+.
Ever wanted an unrequited love story with a yuri character?
Is your dream series an unrequited love story revolving around a lesbian/bi character? Do you also for some reason want that story to involve childhood friends and a sister in law? Are you the type of reader that reads for characters and not plot? Maybe try “This love that won’t reach” or alternatively “Tatoe todokanu ito da to shite mo”.

An extremely pretty manhua
I personally am not the biggest fan of manhua (chinese comics if I understand correctly) or manhwa (korean comics). I usually find that the stories are very rushed and not well thought out plus the art is not appealing enough to make me want to keep reading. Which is a shame, because a lot of manhua artists do have amazing talent its just that in quickly spewed out and drawn out comics the artistic side isn’t really highlighted. The being said,Restraining order of an ant, atleast on an artistic level, blew me away when I first read it.  (I edited the pictures to look brighter and slightly more saturated so that the colours are more obvious)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Each panel is coloured and it’s coloured well. Despite some awkward poses in the beginning the manhua overall looks very aesthetically pleasing!! I rediscovered it recently and I’m currently rereading it. The writing towards where I left off was rather confusing. From the little I reread the manhua’s start is written relatively well, especially for what I’m used to. The start manages to establish the setting of the world and the main characters personalities fairly well early on. The manhua doesn’t state things explicitly. A lot of it is naturalistic exposition from what I’ve seen (by that I mean the exposition isn’t just spoon fed to you through narration or a character doesn’t tell another character “oh hey we live in a world where we are the lowest class, that sucks.”) It’s shown.  I think I might review the series if I finish more of it!! Also prepare yourself for yuri later today.

A review?
One of the first series I read that was a yuri and am now obsessed with is "This love won't reach". It affected me in a personal way where I ended up relating to the main characters struggle of being in love with someone she wasn't supposed to be in love with. The struggle of Uta to get her sister in law Kaoru to recognise her romantic feelings for her hit a bit close to home. So did Kaoru's fear of confrontation.
Tumblr media
Plot
So basically, Uta (the black haired protagonist with a cute lil triangular hair pin), spends the majority of the series trying to find a way to deal with the romantic feelings she has for her sister in law after awakening her feelings at the wedding of her brother and said sister a. k. a Kaoru. Uta initially has no idea what to do about her feelings for Kaoru and Kaoru's over compensating kindness and her desire to be a family with Uta.
Characters
Uta
Uta is originally a very conflicted person. She's unsure of how to handle her feelings and attempts to supress her feelings. After her friend Kuro tells her off for not confronting her feelings and Kaoru, she changes and decides that much like Kuro's (kind of???) gf, Miyabi, that she would try to be kind to her sister. Since much like Kuro, Uta believes love to be temporary and she hopes to maintain positive memories of Kaoru. Uta finally decides to move on and forget about Kaoru after deciding to confess her feelings so that it could be addressed properly.
Tumblr media
Kaoru
Kaoru is potrayed as very non confrontational. Out of all the characters, she's the most emotionally fragile. After being severely impaired by the death of her mother, Kaoru became unable to function on her own and unable to cope with the stress of adult life. She was unable to provide for herself, and while it is not specified, being alone may remind her of those times causing her to have moments of extreme anxiety/distress or maybe even a panic attack.
Kuro
Kuro is mostly apathetic to love and doesn't really believe it could last due to her father's many failed attempts at romance. Kuro starts changing slowly and becoming more caring despite her harsh and cold or sometimes even entitled demeanor after she begins to go out with Miyabi.

Besides the above mentioned and the whole cuteness of the next morning, the panel that did strike me the most was definitely page 15:
Tumblr media
Touko says something along the lines of cooking together like this is something special, whereas if they lived together during university cooking like this would become the norm. (The lower left is Touko’s imagination of this.)
This, for one, of course ties directly into Yuu’s dream from the beginning of chapter 43, where they’re also just casually living together. But it‘s also important with their whole discussion topic during cooking about love, and going out and whether to call each other girlfriends etc. in that it seems so natural for Touko to assume that their whole relationship likely will just go on, grow deeper and change depending on circumstances.
And that is such a Nakatani-sensei way of doing things. Very subtle, one panel with almost no changes to the one above (although Yuu losing her pigtails almost led to a big NOOO moment on my part) and that’s still enough to convey a profound possibility for change. And that all in a chapter that brings up Mio, Touko’s future and Yuu literally saying “I want it all” (and then, errm, well, taking it).
