my dad is so funny because if you actually asked him point blank if he's an ally i dont think he'd know how to respond but like a year ago he was talking about when he used to sell houses in the 90s and he was like "yeah we had a gay couple come in and i had to tell one of my coworkers to stop being rude to them. then they invited me to their housewarming party, i dont know why. after that i had a bunch of gay couples come in and specifically ask for me, isnt that weird?" and he legitimately had never connected the dots

Basically, this is the tale
An Australian bishop is stabbed in the middle of a live streamed sermon
Australian police request the footage be removed from the church's website as it is highly graphic, is considered terrorism, and the attacker is a minor who's identify is protected under law
The church remove the footage after seven hours
It is ofc all over twitter
The police go to twitter and musk to ask him to remove the footage too. Cos it's graphic and the attacker is minor.
Musk refuses, but agrees to geolock the footage of this stabbing so it can't be viewed in australia
The police are outraged that the footage is still up
The prime minister gets involved. Calls musk an "arrogant billionaire" and says we won't back down
The Australian eSafety commission say musk should have removed the footage from twitter and are taking musk to court over it
The basic argument seems to be that Australians use VPNs so can still see it. Also, it's a violent terrorist action that happened on our soil we have a right over the footage of it
There's also a general feeling of why the fuck would you want to keep it up?
Jacqui Lambie, an entertaining politician, get involved. She calls musk the following:
"a bully and a billionaire" (said in the same tone)
"a social media knob"
"he has absolutely no conscious"
"he should be in jail and have the key thrown away" (it's always fun when Lambie speaks)
Musk in turn calls her "an enemy of the Australian people" which is slightly more restrained than she was lol
Court passes an injunction keeping the geolock up, it's moving through the court systems now
Musk's argument seems to be that Australian law doesn't get to dictate international censorship. He also doesn't seem to take the eSafety commission seriously
FYI other social media things all took the footage down no contest, this is just musk
Jacqui Lambie is trying to get everyone to delete twitter in protest. Power to her!
Oh and the bishop is alive, he says he agrees with musk. He also forgives the kid who stabbed him, so that's nice
