I am also of the opinion that Laios didn't just gather the best and greatest, but that his leadership taught each member to hone their skills and talents. One of Laios' most important characteristics as a leader is his attention to detail, he is constantly observing his companion's abilities and interests. This is one of the reasons that he wasn't surprised when Marcille turned out to be an expert in forbidden magic. He noticed that she didn't have tacit skills in general magic and performed it textbook style- leading him to assume that her specialty was in another area.
Being around Laios will inform someone about their practical strengths and weaknesses. Shuro leaves the Touden party but when he see him again, he still plays the role of 'strong finisher' in battles. We don't know much about Shuro's past but we do know that when Laios describes how the team took on dragons, Shuro would land the final blow because he was strong and precise.
Laios also considers the limitations of his team, like when he goes out of his way to avoid fights and using small magic 'shortcuts' because he knows Marcille needs time to recover her MP. His team would progress faster if they relied on Marcille's magic but they wouldn't be able to venture as far down.
Namari's weaponry and metal knowledge is taken at face-value by Laios and Chilchuck. But Laios takes it a step further when he trusts her to use a weapon she has never fired before- when she might misfire and injury Laios or another captured companion. This trust in a persons ability is why Namari can say with her full chest that no one knows weapons like she does- Laios gives her the opportunity to prove it.
Joining the Touden party didn't mean that the individual was already a Dungeon Smashing Machine, it meant that they would be guided to a niche that they flourish in

Far worse, in my opinion, than the famous “he wouldn’t fucking say that” is “he WOULD fucking say that, as part of his facade, but you seem to think he would mean it genuinely”

IMPORTANT REMINDER TO MY EUROPEAN FOLLOWERS AND OTHER TUMBLR DENIZENS FROM AN AMERICAN DESERT-DWELLER:
Climate change is a bitch and summer is coming. If you don’t already have an air conditioner and/or fans, NOW is the time to get them.
THINGS YOU SHOULD BE SHOPPING FOR NOW:
—clothes made of cotton or linen
—air conditioner
—fans
—frozen meals that can be cooked in the microwave
—potable bottled water; you want five days’ worth per person and pet in your household
—bottled fruit juices; it does not matter if these are sugar-added because you’ll want the electrolytes
—electrolyte drinks
—electrolyte pills (you can get these online, I get mine from Amazon)
—popsicle molds to use with fruit and juice
—ice cube trays
—nonperishable salty snacks like peanuts
—one charger brick per adult in case of rolling blackouts or power outages; charge these at the beginning of May, and drain them via use once a month if they’re not needed
YOUR TO-DO LIST:
—check your home’s HVAC system if you didn’t do it at the beginning of winter. Make sure all the filters are clean and replace them if needed
—check the seals on your sinks and bathtub in case you have to run water to handle shortages
—make and freeze meals you can cook in the microwave or simply defrost. Remember to select light summer fare, not hearty winter soups and gravies
—purchase and freeze lunch meats and cheeses you can defrost and use this summer for sandwiches when it’s hot
—assemble your check-in list: elderly, pregnant, disabled, and immunocompromised friends and relatives who may struggle to get things they need when the heat wave hits. Have this list posted and ready to go through daily once the heat gets high. DON’T JUST ASSUME YOU WILL REMEMBER. WRITE IT ALL DOWN.
—create a list of emergency contacts in case of fire, heat stroke, and other heat-related emergencies. This should include your local version of 911 (I think in most of Europe it’s 112, but don’t rely on me as an American, LOOK IT UP NOW before you need it), your doctor’s phone number, and two emergency contacts. Keep it in a place where it can be easily found if someone needs to make these calls on your behalf.
—ask your doctor for an additional prescription for any medications you take, and fill it now. Extreme heat can cause disruptions in the supply chain. Make sure you cycle these meds; that’s to say, always use your oldest bottle first so you don’t end up with expired meds in an emergency.
—stock your first-aid kit. If you don’t have one, now is a good time to make one.
—if you own a car, get your yearly maintenance done now. You don’t want to be dealing with an inoperable vehicle if you need to evacuate.
Staying safe this summer starts now. Get your prep done.

i can’t help it. i know people being horny on my posts are just doing it because it’s a personal blog and they don’t think much of it. i’m not even offended by it or morally against it. but every single time it happens i visualize it in a non internet context.
imagine if you will. a comedy club.
it is the 1940s. famous comedian Mae West saunters on stage, doing her classic bit about sex. scandalous, for the time. the men and women of the audience are laughing, cutting loose. society is stifling.. joking about sex is healing
“come up and see me sometime! 😘.” big laugh. as always
And then way in the someone stands up on the table, puts their hands around their mouth and SHOUTS
“I NEED RAW PUSSY!!!! HAIRY POSTWAR WIDOW PUSSY!!! PUSSY RIGHT NOW OR I’LL KILL MYSELF!!”

If you’ve been stuck trying to please a mom who became abusive/toxic because of generational trauma, realize you won’t save her. You might be the subject of your mom’s rage, paranoia, obsession etc - but you are not the cause of it. And if you didn’t change her after all those years of begging her, bargaining with her, self-harming, isolating, defending yourself, etc, you are not going to change her now. When they say “you can only save someone who wants to be saved”, that applies here. When they say “the only person who you can control is yourself” that applies here. Please let go of this guilt that you carry for something that’s entirely out of your hands. These ideas are pertinent to creating your path to freedom.

you're not stuck. it's not over. you can claw yourself out again and again. find strength in yourself. find strength in others whom you can trust. the fight isn't over until you're dead.

eventually you realize you don’t want to die. you just don’t want to live the life you’re living. and slowly you try to create a life you want to live. just gotta start there.

Btw, if you have not had tragedy dropped on you before, grief does fuck you up in unexpected and physical ways. If you can’t sleep or sleep more than expected or have more or reduced appetite, or energy goes weird— your brain just had a bunch of emotions dropped on it and sometimes it reacts by hitting every button in your brain. It will pass. Just try to not get too frustrated with yourself.
It’s also fine if you feel normal. Grief literally hits everybody differently, and some people are made to be able to to keep the farm going the day after a death, and some of us turn into sleepless gargoyles and get really into trying to help, and some of us are just unspeakably sad. Grief is weird. Be kind to yourself.

The thing about the r slur is that people who are using it again are indeed using it as a slur. This isn't a word that is being reclaimed. This is a word that is once again being used 100% as a slur. You're being a bigot if you're using it against others. Straight up. There isn't another argument to be made. Knock it tf off.

A lot of people are missing my point with this one. You know what my opinion is? The U.S. has been leading a world war for decades. Anytime they invade or bomb a country, like they did in Iraq, they do it jointly with troops and weapons from several of their allied states. The U.K., Australia, Canada, France, etc... They use military bases in nearby allied states that had their governments overthrown or propped up by the U.S. based on their allegiance to U.S. interests: Egypt, Jordan, now Iraq, Bahrein, Kuwait, Saudi, etc... And it's not their only invasion or 'war'. The pillaging of Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, and Palestine. They all happened more or less simultaneously and repeatedly.
You have every continent of the world involved in massacres spanning Africa and Asia, and in fighting back against those massacres. And its been happening for decades, more or less simultaneously.
How is this not a world war? Well that's a trick question. It always was a world war. One that your governments always kept quiet and didn't say much about. Consider that. Reflect on that. Reflect on why you think saying world war 3 only makes sense to do now, and not decades ago. The likelihood is because you see 'war' as normal in our region. No matter how convoluted and complex the genocidal and bloodthirsty network of death the West has created for us to be trapped in from birth. It can't be a world war if we're the victims right? Even if our killers are coming from the four corners of the world.
