Melded Memories
Just a Valenfield fanfic that has been sitting in my drafts for probably close to a year. I thought I'd share.
Tumblr media
There was something cathartic about watching the flames envelop and scorch the pictures. It was slowly becoming easier to let go. He wasn't sure if it was the campfire smoke or the memories that stung at his eyes more, but he knew that either way, he was thankful the darkness of night and the campfire smoke obscured him from everything - like he only existed in this small bubble of light radiating from the logs - that now helped him erase and ease the pang in his heart.
He plucked another photo from the top of the opened box and paused to glance at it, the flames in his periphery trying to lick it out of his hand.
A small smile curled his lip as he gazed at their faces, the picture emanating pride and happiness from a moment in the past. But that's what photographs are - a frozen memory, a momentary clip of time that can never be reclaimed or changed. Only destroyed, so that memory might fade into the folds of obscurity, becoming harder to resurface in your mind the farther in time it travels. Isn't that what he was seeking? Didn't he want to forget it all? So why did he hesitate?
His thumb grazed over the photo, it was a rare relic before Raccoon City's destruction. He just so happened to have it developed before he left for Europe. And he's kept it ever since. But it was time to let go, time to let her go. He allowed himself to steal one final glance, to retreat into those memories just once more. They were both so young and had won the Skeet Shooting Competition as a team, together, just like they had always done. It had been her first time demonstrating all she had learned after their multiple lessons together at the shooting range.
He was initially doubtful if he could really teach her anything, as something like improved marksmanship usually came with practice. But he would have been a fool to turn down the opportunity to spend time with a pretty woman who was interested in something that he was good at. Great at, really. So when she mentioned that she was frustrated with her poor aim, the words just fell out of his mouth to invite her to the shooting range. He half said it because he never thought she would actually listen to his silly suggestion. But she accepted, was even eager and excited, which made him beam like an idiot. Those smiles seemed so mockingly optimistic now.
An intense guilt gnawed at his stomach; regret and deep sadness followed. He was naive to think they could walk away unscathed from this job. And stupid to believe he could protect her from it.
"Jill, stop!"
The awful reality replayed over and over again, like it was stuck on repeat. The pressure of her kick against his chest was fresh in his mind, like he could feel it ripple through him, clattering his insides around.
"I'm not going to hurt you!"
But that didn't mean she would do the same. With her weight against him, pinning him to the ground, and hands firmly clasped against his throat, he locked eyes with her. Eyes that were spilling over with emotion.
It was too much. For a brief moment he wanted to let her win, he wanted her to be able to rid herself of that tormented echo. Let her falling tears stab him like knives so that she didn't have to suffer anymore. But as he looked at her face, her twisted and crying face, he couldn't let this strip away another piece of her. He managed to break her grip, quickly flipped her off of him, and rushed for the door as it slammed shut between them. He could hear her thrashing around on the other side, that echo still driving her into a frenzy.
"I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do, Chris. Jill is not the same after everything she's been through. I - I think it best if you two... didn't see each other anymore."
"Where is Chris? Where is he? Is he okay? I want to see him! Please!"
"Jill, I want you to take some deep breaths. We just have to get the i.v. back in." The nurse tried to calm her with a firm but warm voice.
She saw the thick trail of blood running down the length of her arm, her palm tainted with the red blotchy stain. Her fingers felt sickly wet and uncomfortably sticky. Not again. She looked to the floor and saw the red drops leading to marks on the ground, that were smears of an indicated struggle. Please not again.
Her mind felt like it was on fire, in a daze and thick with a burning smoke. Her head was so heavy she barely had the energy to raise it. Her eyes felt like they wanted to retreat back into her head to try and find relief from the ache all over her body, but there was no relief. More tears fell out of her eyes as the needle pierced her skin.
"I'm not just going to give up on her like that!"
"No one is suggesting that she is a lost cause. Just... just that she needs -- distance. Your presence seems to be a catalyst to her worst symptoms. There has been an obvious pattern. We feel it would be best for the safety of yourself, Jill and all staff, if you refrained from seeing her until we can come to a better solution."
Those words were perhaps what he needed to hear, no matter how difficult. He would do anything to help Jill in whatever way he could. Like travel half way across the globe to fight through countless abominations to find her, with the scars to prove it, just as he had done in Africa. Scars. Just like he had done when pulled that torturous device off her chest. He would do anything, right? Even if it meant... Were the doctors words the truth? Was he the catalyst?
Tumblr media
"Chris! Don't --!"
He loved the sound of her laugh.
I can’t--! Don’t say another word!"
He watched as her head went back in amusement. She tightly gripped his arm, which she only did when he said something to really make her lose herself. They always created a symphony of joy together - something that was needed every now and again to balance the stress of what they were doing - much to the annoyance of some co-workers. Their laughs used to even have Wesker threaten to move their desks. They were always a great source of relief for each other.
Could he go back to those long days of not hearing her voice? Or those restless nights with her whisper in the wind? He closed his eyes tight and rubbed them, his grip firmly stopping at the bridge of his nose. At least this time he knows that she is alive. Or is she?
Her pale skin and lackluster eyes tried so hard to show how resilient she was, tried in vain to put up a strong front. But Chris knew. She couldn't hide that from him, despite her best efforts. He could see that what she had endured had worn her down, taken pieces of her that she would never get back. There was a deep ache in his heart. And it burned Chris alive. It burned in his stomach. And it burned the back of his throat when he thought about it long enough. Knowing there was little to nothing he could do to help ease her struggle. Swallowing hard knowing he was the reason for it.
Chris gripped the armrest of the chair, turning his face toward the window, not able to make eye contact with the doctor who was so patiently waiting for a response. The sound of strained wood snapped in his ears.
"For her."
He watched as their faces bubbled and morphed, melting into monstrous tortured expressions, until the flames only left a gaping hole of nothingness. Something he felt was closer to the truth. How cruel fate can be. How much this job had taken from them. They would never be their plucky, rambunctious, adventurous, and wide eyed selves again.
The big crackles of the fire reminded him of the sound of gunfire.
Tumblr media
"I can see their faces, Chris."
The phone startled him from his sleep - something he was thankful he finally slipped into. He glanced at the clock, the neon numbers reading back 1:12am. A sigh escaped his throat. 2 hours. He was finally able to sleep for 2 hours. He reached over and picked up the receiver, covering his eyes with his other hand. Was Forest drunk again?
Chris caught himself as he responded with a hello. It couldn't have been Forest. He was lost that awful, awful night. A night that stole the rest of Chris' nights away.
"Are you alright?" He shot up in bed, even he could hear his immense concern.
"Yeah, yeah, of course. I'll be right over." He fumbled to grab an over shirt and his keys, "keep the light on, it helps. I should be there in 10 minutes."
He quickly gave himself a once over in the mirror, attempting to fix the hair that decided to stand at attention in his sleep. He quickly tied up his sneakers and headed out the door.
He practically ran to her apartment, wanting to shorten the, at the time, unbearable separation. What a fool he was to think those 10 minutes felt like the longest he had ever experienced in his life.
"I'm so sorry. I know - I know it's already so late --" She started as soon as she opened her door. Her eyes looked red and puffy, like she had been crying.
As he walked in, every single light was turned on in her small apartment. The bathroom light with the fan whirred in the background, the fluorescent buzzed overhead, and even the TV was turned on but muted.
He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, "hey, hey. It's okay. I was already awake."
"I didn't know who else to call..."
Chris' voice was soft, "don't worry. Here, sit down." He pulled one of her kitchen chairs out.
"I - I..." she sighed as she tried to piece herself together, "I just couldn't. I can't anymore. You know what I mean?"
He took the seat next to her, "well, yeah, as soon as you tell me."
That got a smile out of her as she dipped her head down. A hand coming up to her forehead.
"I know, I must sound so jumbled right now, I'm sorry."
He glanced at her shaking hand and reached out to rest his own on her arm,
"it's okay. Take your time."
Jill's big blue eyes shined with gratitude, as if a giant weight was lifted from her shoulders, "thank you. Thank you for coming." Her voice was a little shaky.
He gently squeezed her arm with a smile then looked around, "I see you took my advice. Though the electric bill will kill ya."
"Oh yeah?" she smiled and then sighed with relief, "but you're right. It does help."
"Yeah." He didn't mean for his response to sound so resounding in it's understanding, but maybe that would comfort her more. To know that she wasn't the only one who was afraid of the shadows and the haunting darkness of night.
His eyes weren't fixed on anything in particular but the images in his own mind, "sometimes the rain makes it worse..."
"Yeah..." He could see a chill run up her spine. "I can see their faces, Chris."
"Me too." He scooted his chair over next to hers as he wrapped his arms around her, "I see them, too. You're not alone, Jill." There was a slight break in his voice.
"Don't be upset, Chris."
She had passed out on their weekly run together. She had insisted on going, even though Chris had his doubts that morning. She looked pale, even paler than normal if that were possible. He tried to assure her and persuade her to do their exercises another day, but she could not be deterred. So he tried to adjust his pace, and she was able to maintain that for a while, but he started to notice her breathing becoming really labored, so he suggested going into the park to do some squats. She was barely able to get out her feigned 'I'm fine', before Chris could see what was about to happen. He was thankful he was standing right next to her to catch her fall.
Tumblr media
"How long was I out?"
"About half an hour."
Jill somewhat rolled her eyes as she turned her head away with a heavy sigh, the hospital grade pillow under her head made a noise as the crisp linen rubbed against itself. She was clearly struggling with her new limitations and it frustrated her to no end.
"It's getting longer..." she softly added with a sad voice.
"What do you mean?" Chris crossed his arms over his chest while tilting his head to intently listen.
Jill continued to stare up at the ceiling, there was a depression to her voice, "the time. How long I'm out. It's getting longer."
"You've passed out multiple times?" Chris thought he sounded more like a father scolding his rebellious teenager.
She didn't respond. Just continued to presumably stare at nothing, or maybe it was because she didn't want to meet his eye. But her brows were knitted in what looked to be annoyance.
"Jill, why didn't you tell me?" His hands returned to the arms of the chair as he leaned in. He didn't think he did a good job of masking the anger in his voice. It hurt him that she didn't share that with him. And her response was sharp.
"I didn't think it mattered!" She sat up to finally meet his gaze.
"Didn't matter --?"
"I didn't want to be back here! I didn't want to be stuck in a stupid lab like I had been for years!" Her voice was raw, like admitting that broke a piece of her.
Chris fell silent. All words escaped his mind as none would be sufficient enough to ease that truth. He stared at her for a moment before casting his eyes to the floor.
"It should be me laying there. This never should have been placed on you..." His gaze became fuzzy as he continued to look down.
That's all I have - just a hodgepodge of slop. Just a bunch of fanficiton Valenfield love. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to write but then I always get side-tracked and/or forget what my original intention was, haha. Sorry - hopefully you can enjoy this scatterbrained mess!

Thanks Anon. (Picture they are referring to is below)
I will say this: It's funny that they even mentioned Jill in RE6 material when she is not even in the story and subsequently isn't heard from for years. So to me, it's very curious that they have mentioned her, and for her to only be connected to Chris.
I'm not familiar with this chart, but it's cool to find little extras like this! I can see that it's only a partial scan, or a half to a whole - I'm assuming all major RE6 characters were included.
But again, why even bother adding anything about Jill, when she is not in RE6 (not even a name drop). Like, I understand Claire being there because she is connected to multiple people in RE6 - Chris, Sherry, and even Leon. But Jill? (I mean, it's silly that she's NOT mentioned in RE6 - she is a main protagonist. But I guess that's why they have her in the chart?)
So it's pretty funny to me that they have Jill, just mentioned up there in the corner. Her only connection is Chris. It's kind of cute, actually.
Like, what? Even when nothing is about Jill, Chris is still thinking about Jill and vice versa. XD
I'll share what I could find for translations/definitions of the Japanese kanji in this chart. But please be advised I do NOT read or speak Japanese and this is solely from my own efforts to find translations online.
Japanese has a lot of subtly and different characters that can be combined to create words and different meanings, so please keep that in mind when reading. Any persons that know Japanese are welcome to provide their expertise and input, thanks!

Index:
Blue Lines: 友好 = friendly 友 = friend 好 = good, fine, fond, pleasing, like something Red Lines: 敵対 = hostility, opposition White Lines: 中立 = neutrality
Chris Redfield
To Claire (vice versa): FRIENDLY 兄妹 = older brother and younger sister 兄 = elder/big brother 妹 = younger sister Self explanatory. To Jill (vice versa): FRIENDLY 戦友 = comrade in arms, war buddy/friend, fellow solider. 戦 = war, battle, campaign, fight. 友 = friend, companion, comrade, pal. Makes sense as they have fought bio-terrorism (battles, wars) together as equals (they essentially have the same experience/rank and are about the same age). To Piers: FRIENDLY 後輩 = junior comrade, younger student 後 = behind, back, remainder, heir, after, afterwards, later 輩 = group, comrade, generation Chris is a Captain. Piers is younger and a less experienced comrade in the BSAA, so he is considered Chris' junior, or after him in age and experience/rank. I like the underlying meaning of Chris intending for Piers to essentially be the 'heir' to his BSAA legacy. And that Chris is all that remains at the end of it all - it's quite sad. To Unknown (off the page): HOSTILITY 仲間 = associate, company, group, member of the same category 仇 = foe, enemy Associated with enemy? I'm not sure who this is pointing to. Maybe Leon (as in Ada is the enemy)? I don't know how to translate the other characters, but I think it's because those are like our English articles and prepositions (to, the, it, is, etc)
Piers Nivans
To Chris: FRIENDLY 尊敬 = respect, esteem 尊 = noble, exalted, honor 敬 = respect, revere, give salute Which makes sense with Piers being a junior ranking comrade in the BSAA - so he would literally salute Chris in respect for his exalted (higher) status as Captain.
Albert Wesker
To Chris (vice versa): HOSTILITY 宿敵 = old/longtime enemy 宿 = home, dwell 敵 = enemy, foe, opponent Good ol' Chris and Wesker rivalry. To Jake (vice versa): NEUTRALITY 親子 = parent and child 親 = parent(s), founder 子 = child, young So weird that Wesker has a kid... It's probably for the best that Jake never really knew Wesker. To William Birkin (vice versa): NEUTRALITY 同僚 = co-worker, colleague 同 = equal, same, together 僚 = official, colleague, staff Birkin and Wesker were scientists together back in the day.
Sherry Birkin
To Claire: FRIENDLY 恩人 = patron (honored as a special guardian, protector, or supporter) 恩 = grace, kindness, favor 人 = person, people, personality Or maybe it just means that Sherry sees Claire as a kind person? To Jake: FRIENDLY 保護 = guardianship, safeguard, custody 保 = ensure, guard, defend 護 = protect Sherry's there to ensure Jake stays safe. To William (vice versa): NEUTRALITY 親子 = parent and child 親 = parent(s), founder 子 = child, young Another RE baby. Poor Sherry having to deal with both her parents demise so young, hence the neutrality. It's actually sweet of her to hold no hostility even though he practically tried to kill her in RE2.
Jake Muller
To Sherry: NEUTRALITY 金 = gold, money, cash Maybe - in it for the money? Doing it for the money? To Chris: NEUTRALITY 父親 = father 仇 = foe, enemy, hatred, grudge, harm, feud My father's enemy? Or maybe it translates to Harmed my father?
Hoobastank
(or whatever his name is XD)
To Jake: HOSTILITY 追跡 = stalking, hunt 追 = chase, follow, pursue 跡 = track, impression 捕虜 = Seize prisoner? 捕 = capture, arrest ?? 虜 or 獲 ?? = prisoner or seizure, obtain Yeah, that all seems to sum it up well. And OMG did it take me forever to find these last kanji (and I still don't think the very last one is correct! So that translation might be incorrect, sorry!)

I love your contributions! I don't ever want you to feel like you are hijacking or butting in. You are always a great wealth of knowledge! Thanks for that info!
I honestly don't use twitter(x) much, so I'm not as familiar with it. I don't personally take offense to asks like these - they can be thought provoking. So, of course, I took the opportunity to elaborate on Valenfield (it had been sitting in my drafts forever, but I have a few days off so I've been cleaning things up).
So everyone, I encourage you to also check out valenfield-inspo post they are referring to ^_^
I just don't want anything to get blown out of proportion in regards to fandoms (and sometimes when you're obsessive like me, your passion can come across as unintentionally abrasive or harsh) and I don't want others to get riled up, so that's why I have all my caution messages.
But again, thank you for your input, valenfield-inspo! It's always appreciated
Did you see that? 😩

The link is to a Twitter post that states:
"Chris cried when Piers died. He didn't when Jill had seemingly fallen to her death. That should tell you something."
Please do not take this as an attack on any particular ship. I'm not here to start any wars. I'm merely sharing my thoughts and feelings on the ship that I do enjoy, and trying to politely discuss that and share it with others (and answer this message). I please ask that we have no heated messages in the comments or disrespectful reblogging - please only share positivity or your own thoughts and opinions in a non-hostile manner. That way this can stay peaceful, thank you ^_^
While you could certainly argue, that at face value, Chris might have shown more emotion during Piers' sacrifice than Jill's - those two events happen under different circumstances and at different paces. Jill's sacrifice is sudden and unexpected - Chris is going to be shocked more than anything at first. Piers and Chris actually have some back and forth discussion and/or struggle before Piers finally makes the choice.
Piers
Chris was desperate to try and save Piers - this young protege who was to take his place in the BSAA - the only remaining soldier in his initial squad. I think they both knew, deep down, that Piers had a slim chance of survival. But Chris was going to fight for that chance. He does his best to keep encouraging Piers, because he doesn't want another casualty on his watch. So, of course Chris is going to have a lot of emotion surrounding Piers' sacrifice. It's another victim that he can't save. The whole time they are racing to escape, Chris seems to be trying to convince himself, more than anyone, that both of them can make it out alive. Chris was supposed to train all those men and watch them grow and fight bio-terrorism, alongside and in his place. But instead, Chris watches them all die. He carries a heavy guilt with him, as he was the captain that failed them. This tragedy is already weighing heavily on Chris through the whole game. And Piers was a young man, in the prime of his life. Struck down by the horrors of bio-terrorism - the very thing Chris has been so vehemently fighting. Chris' head was probably spinning as it kept telling him something he didn't want to face, thrumming in his ear, 'it's too late. You failed again', as he helped a struggling Piers continue forward. The shove into the pod was the final confirmation. 'They're all dead'. So yeah, I could see why he'd get pretty teary eyed. Chris abandons his retirement plans and eats a steak in honor. IMO, Chris reacts like someone who grieves for a comrade. A horribly unfortunate and bitter moment, but lest it be in vain.
Jill
Before her sacrifice, Chris and Jill seemed like an unstoppable duo. They faced many challenges, but were ultimately the victors in their battles. They survived the mansion, they gathered info on Umbrella, founded the BSAA, protected the Mediterranean, and even destroyed Umbrella together. They were partners through it all.
Tumblr media
So tracking down Spencer to his European mansion was supposed to be the same, right? They were going to bring him down and get information on Wesker, too! Right? It was just the next step to rid the world of bio-terrorism. Right? ...right? But then, unexpectedly, they found Wesker standing over Spencer's corpse in the library. And he moved lightning fast, too. Soon, Chris was dangling in the air as the red eyes locked on to him just like the iron grip around his collar. This was it. Chris was staring his death in the face. But that cry of desperation from the familiar voice on the other side of the room saved him. He turned to the smashed window to reach out for his falling partner, but her form disappeared into the abyss below. The only thing that he could do was bellow her name in anguish. His partner! His bestest friend in the whole-wide world! JiiiilllLLLL!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He didn't take any new partners after her fall and threw himself into work (part of me thinks he was doing that in honor of Jill and to numb the pain of her missing - you can't grieve if you're focusing on other things. Jill even mentions in an email to Barry that she didn't get a funeral - now who would have been responsible for that, I wonder? Maybe the man who refused to believe she was dead? ...Maybe).
Tumblr media
Also, this silly precious himbo thought Wesker was dead but never gave up hope that Jill was alive. He kept his ears and eyes peeled for her for almost 3 years! Curiously, he requested an assignment with BSAA Africa, but he wouldn't elaborate on the reasons why. We come to find out in RE5, it was to follow a lead about Jill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout RE5, Chris is focused on finding Jill. He demands answers from a dying Irving. He demands to know of Jill's whereabouts multiple times from Excella. She even mocks him for it. 'Jill, Jill, Jill. You sound like a broken record. Just as single-minded as he [Wesker] said.' And when Jill is finally revealed to him, she is his main focus. He didn't want to leave her side when he was finally reunited with her, despite Wesker's imminent plans of total cataclysm. His priority was Jill. It wasn't until she urged him on that he, very reluctantly, left her side. And this is Chris Redfield! The man who doesn't let anything distract him from the mission - anything but Jill - that is. :P IMO, Chris reacts like someone who is missing a piece of himself, desperately searching for that missing part to feel whole again.
So the immediate reaction is different because both sacrifices were different.
Chris knew there was a chance of Piers' death the moment he was infected. Combined with the other trauma in RE6, it was no wonder that Chris was torn up over the death of this young man (practically a kid!) with so much potential.
With Jill, her 'death' catches him completely off-guard. He starts questioning if he can even fight bio-terrorism anymore at the start of RE5. He can't believe she is dead. He can't move on from her, and her loss is eating him up inside. The word partner is enough to trigger pain. It's only when he saves Jill and destroys Wesker that his resolve returns.
Both Jill and Piers sacrifice themselves, but both have different instigators, time-frames, circumstances, and ultimately, Chris reactions.

The text connecting Chris and Jill is “戦友” or “kanyuu” which translates to “commrade in arms; war buddy”.?
in the Revelation's bio for Chris, they called him Jill's Brother-in-arms.?
So they don't have feelings for each other?
https://www.tumblr.com/chirikalovesjill/34500920927/where-did-this-picture-come-from-please-anyone
Hello Anon! I want to start off by saying that it's okay if you don't ship Chris and Jill romantically - not everyone does. I mentioned in a previous post how I can certainly see how others would only view their relationship as platonic or coworkers. Unfortunately, the link in your question does not work so I'm sorry I can't respond to that in particular. And I am not trying to sow any discontent or attacking, I'm merely responding and enjoying my preferred ship. I hope you can understand. If we can all stay positive and respectful that would be greatly appreciated. ^_^ Chris and Jill have been fighting BOW's since the very first game. Actual canon is that they survived through the whole mansion together. They've always protected each other. So 'comrade in arms', 'war buddy, 'brother-in-arms', 'partner', 'bestest friend', 'kindred spirits', 'love of my life' are all titles they would/could use to address each other.
Also, in RE1 original, Chris and Jill were written to be romantically interested in each other. In a recent interview, the live-action actor for RE1 Chris stated that he wanted to remain as respectful as possible to Jill's actress as she was much younger than him and he knew they were supposed to be romantically linked in the story. Source: ROE Plays RESIDENT EVIL 1 w/ Original Chris Redfield (Charlie Kraslavsky)
And this cute song that plays when they are reunited: Long Lost Friend Long Lost Friend Revisited - I love how bittersweet this is, very fitting In my mind, there is definitely some romantic sweetness to this song. But Capcom likes to keep them ambiguous or seems to want to retcon them, so I don't know. Ship them or don't. Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I just like how mature their relationship seems - built on lasting trust and respect. Even in Death Island there were ambiguous hints of something more between them. Like, Chris staring at a smiling Jill, backlit by a beautiful setting sun, seems kind of romantic to me. ... Only to fist bump her seconds later. Guess he wanted to keep it professional and clean in front of his sister XD
Before I got into Resident Evil (Biohazard), I never really knew about any 'ships'. I had vague memories of RE2 (Cleon bby) and RE5 (my unknowing teenage self actually shipped Sheva and Chris!), but it wasn't until I actually replayed the games as an adult and explored more of the extended lore that I became a Valenfield fan (and unexpectedly, less of a Cleon shipper). And what cemented it for me even more was the supplemental RE5 guide translations!
I highly recommend any Valenfield shipper to read it here. (scroll down a little more than half way on the page to find the STORY section. It's after the different colored text timeline.)
Some quotes from this official guide book:
... Referred to as "the BSAA's ace", Chris has a brilliant track record preventing many bioterror attacks, but Chris' chest is filled with an indescribable emptiness. Many comrades have been sacrificed to repair the errors of fools. Even if the world's saved, these friends will never return. He had lost his irreplaceable former partner. ...
... Chris has nothing against having a female partner. In fact, the partner he regarded as irreplaceable was a female too. She's the perfect person whom Chris can totally trust and rely on, someone whom he believes is what he needed to complete any mission. Chris felt their teamwork was like an eagle able to escape from biohazardous danger. ...
... Chris is staring intently at a statue of a sleeping beauty. He's like a person looking at his lover through a mirror, where the other side of the mirror's a different dimension. ... The image displayed on the PDA screen issued by the BSAA isn't very good quality. The faint face is illuminated by a weak light, ... Despite that, Chris is able to recognise the person. He's been chasing this lead all the while, just so he can repair the missing piece of his heart. This can't be a mistake, nor an illusion. This is a fact. ... It's Jill, his old partner who sacrificed herself and jumped off a cliff in order to save Chris. Due to Jill's absence ever since, the BSAA have removed her from duty. But two years later, there's finally a sign that shows she may be alive after all, and this sign's appearing right in front of her partner who refuses to believe she's dead. The reason why Chris, who was from BSAA North American branch, was hoping to join this operation within Kijuju, was because he'd obtained some sort of lead leaked by Irving on the black market while he was looking for Jill. ...
... Jill, with her antibodies, has been administered P30--- Gifted with superhuman abilities, she's been given a powerful drug that controls her mind too. This evil drug is continuously injected into her body, torturing her to no end. Just as Wesker intended, Jill's receiving hell-like suffering. "I'm begging you, kill me!" ... Wesker's instruction to Jill before he leaves, which is to kill Chris who has finally come for her, plays mercilessly in her mind like an echo. The painful, unbearable order's destroying Jill mentally, and she's begging with her mind for her old partner, Chris, to end her suffering. "Don't worry about me! If this goes on I'll only end up killing both of you! Shoot me, please!" Despite that, Chris refuses to give up. Chris screams like a beast at the brainwashed Jill. He promises that even if it means giving up his life, he's going to free his partner with whom he has finally reunited, from her curse.
But again, I believe Capcom will keep their relationship more ambiguous and open to interpretation - I think they want to keep all potential shippers content. And they certainly seem to be moving towards a more 'just a good friend/co-worker' angle than before.
Which, in my opinion, cheapens the over arcing story (RE1 - 5) and relationship - but that's for another post to ramble about, I suppose.
No hard feelings if you're not a Valenfield shipper. They have a good friendship and I can totally understand if people only see them as that and nothing more.
